    Webby was oddly set up as family. If she was the main kid featured in the holiday or spy episodes, she was partnered with scrooge. They even have her with abnormal strength in the 1st episode, by taking down a tree with a toy ball. If she hadn't been obsessed with the mcDucks, she would be really into spy stuff, and her being a kid locked away in the Manson would have unintentionally made her a great spy, and thus a great weapon for FOWl.
    It isn't major, but it is set up.

      The stupid writers that made this ridiculous episode wrote it that way despite the fact that it disrupts THREE canonical families! Webby ISN'T his actual daughter and nor is she a canon part of the Duck/McDuck/Coot family tree. 😑😡
      And her supposed "strength" is a rip-off (as almost everything else she has) from *Donald* who used to uproot trees (including Sequoias, the heaviest trees in the world and that in real life weigh 2 million - 4 million pounds), headbutt mountain goats and punch out sharks _long_ before Scrooge's creation. The family's strength, fighting prowess and rage came from Donald, not Scrooge.

      @@ThePaganSun Actually, it's a reference to how, in the French version of the original Ducktales, both Weeby and April (Who is one of Daisy's three triplets) share the same name. They're practically seen as the same character, so the show writers brought that into the story. (Fun Fact: Donald taking May and June on their vacation is again, a reference to how they're Dasiy's kids in the original series.)

    • @ThePaganSun
      @ThePaganSun 2 роки тому +2

      @@wither475 I doubt it because the series wasn't created in France and DT87 Webby was actually created to be a combination of all three of Daisy's nieces. So the fact that Webby's name in French is the same as April is probably just a coincidence. Or maybe the French decided to deliberately name her after April.
      Whatever the case, it still doesn't make April and Webby the same character. They're not at all. April, May and June are Daisy's nieces and are canon to the Carl Barks comics while Webby was Beakley's granddaughter and isn't canon in the source material, just in Ducktales.
      And I don't think so. It was Donald that took them in DT17 rather than Daisy so I wonder if it's more a reference to Legends of the Three Caballeros series where April, May and June are Daisy's nieces (as they are in canon) but look after Donald's cabin that he inherited along with Panchito and Jose and they fight a cosmic sorcerer together.
      Plus, if the DT17 writers wanted them to be a reference to how they're Daisy's nieces, they should've actually made them Daisy's nieces ... because that's what they are. None of this copy-cat sci-fi nonsense that elevates Newbie Webby above the actual canon characters and has to disrupt three established families to make it work. Neither she nor Beakley were even fighters! Those are skills and abilities they ripped off from Donald who's performed great feats of strength in anger and determination in both his classic cartoons and the Carl Barks and Don Rosa comics.

    The thing I would have changed: Webby alone would not have brought forth the Papyrus. Because being related by blood doesn't make one an heir. Family is more than that.

    • @ThePaganSun
      @ThePaganSun Рік тому

      Especially since she's the one that's not actually related to them in canon. By elevating her over Scrooge's actual canon family, it's disrespectful to them. If the idea of the show was to pay homage to Carl Barks, why did they choose to elevate a newbie that doesn't even exist in the original comics over the actual Duck that inspired the WHOLE world of Duckburg including Scrooge? Donald.

    • @bolttwo
      @bolttwo 11 місяців тому +1

      @@ThePaganSun I see your argument, but need I remind you that Scrooge specifically said "DIRECT descendant" when he used the papyrus to stop Black heron from getting it? Realistically, the line could've been changed, but if it was changed to just "family" then it would've gone to Donald and Della who were right there. Also, paying homage to something doesn't necessarily mean using every single detail. I mean, was Della Duck -an actual character- stuck on the moon in the Carl Barks comics as well?

    • @ThePaganSun
      @ThePaganSun 11 місяців тому

      @@bolttwo The point is that Webby isn't even canon let alone a "direct descendant" of Scrooge so by the show trying to force her to be one is disrespectful to Scrooge's actual canon family.
      And AGAIN (and I'm really tired of repeating this) no one saying the show "had to follow every detail from the comics" but elevating a semi-newbie over a character's canonical family is NOT some little change!
      Changing Scrooge's coat from red to blue is a little change. But trying to make it seem as if the legacy of Carl Barks and Scrooge begins and ends with Webby when she doesn't even exist in the Carl Barks comics and when that credit actually belongs to DONALD is something else entirely.
      Imagine if the Darkwing reboot replaced Gosalyn as Darkwing's daughter with some other newbie girl or boy like Lena or Violet or BOYD. Would you and the fans like such a change then??? See the difference?
      Again...newbies need to fit into the established canon. We don't change canon to fit the newbies. Not Ducktales and definitely not the Carl Barks were never _Webby's_ story. It was supposed to be based on DONALD'S family and DONALD was the first to inspire the Carl Barks comics and thus Ducktales. The show pretty much let Webby pretty much hijack Donald's story, adventures and even family and that's downright _unforgivable._

    • @bolttwo
      @bolttwo 11 місяців тому +1

      @@ThePaganSun First of all, they did not make Scrooge's legacy begin and end with Webby. Webby was the reason the papyrus fell into the hands of FOWL, because she was made with the genetic material of Scrooge (Direct Descendant, again). Donald is NOT a direct descendant, nor is he truly Scrooge's heir. Sure, Donald may be the reason for Duckburg and Scrooge's existence in the Carl Barks comics, but that does not mean that he needed to have a huge role in the finale. He was barely in the original Ducktales, and he got a major role in this show as well, but not as important as the triplets, Scrooge, and Webby.
      Second, Webby's existence is because this is a DUCKTALES Reboot, not an ADAPTATION of the Comics. She's elevated as a character because she had little to no importance in the original series, and the creators wanted to change that. The idea that the sole reason for Webby's plot importance is to screw over Donald is ignoring the several DECADES of attention Donald has gotten through other series (Kingdom hearts, for example). Donald is an important character, yes. But for him to be that important at the end of Ducktales would be a disservice to characters that are FROM Ducktales.

    • @ThePaganSun
      @ThePaganSun 11 місяців тому

      @bolttwo Yeah, DT17 _did_ make Scrooge's legacy begin and end with Webby despite the fact that her being Scrooge's "direct descendant/clone" was entirely _made up_ by the show!! She's not related to Scrooge in the least!! And actually Donald IS Scrooge's heir, both in the comics and even in the show. So Donald should've indeed had a huge role in both the show and the finale because he _is_ the reason for the legacy of Carl Barks and Scrooge himself, NOT newbie Webby! And, he's more far important hijacking newbie. The only reason he didn't show up more in the original Ducktales was because Tony Anselmo was still new to his role as Donald's voice! Webby is _irrelevant._ So NO. DONALD began the legacy. And thus _he_ deserves the credit, not that elevated hijacking newbie.
      So what if it's a reboot?! It's still based on the original series and thus should follow the canon of the original series! Webby had little importance to the original series because _again_ it was never about _her!!_ Those were not _her_ adventures! It supposed to be about DONALD'S. Webby was lucky to exist at all! Donald is the one who inspired Carl Barks and thus Ducktales itself so if any character deserved to be elevated it should've been him. For it to be some semi newbie of all people is downright disrespectful to him and had it been any other canon character in any other franchise that got shafted thanks to a newbie, the Fandom would've been up in arms.
      The ultimate problem with _both_ versions of Ducktales is how little a role Donald plays compares to his role in the comics where he IS the main character and since the comics are not as well known in the USA, it's even more a disservice since now the fans think that DT17 is accurate to the comics or that the first time they see many of Donald's extended family in animation are as distorted versions of themselves.
      Again...all this talk of "reboots" is seems all well and good now, but let's see if you fans here will change your tune when the Darkwing REBOOT comes out and if it makes as drastic a change as DT17 did. Let's see how you'll react if Darkwing gets sidelined in his own show or if he adopts a other daughter like a newbie called Gabby and sidelines Gosalyn and Gabby will actually be Darkwing's clone! Such a tiny change, right? I'm sure you'll take such drastic changes in stride, right? After all, if such changes are all well and good here, then they should be all well and good there too.
      It doesn't matter how much other media or attention Donald gets. The fact is that _he_ is the inspiration for the source material for Ducktales and the credit belongs to _him_ Not Webby. It was HIS story, adventures, and family. Not hers. To try to force it to be otherwise is absolutely a disservice to DONALD and the world HE inspired.
      Shame on the writers and the show for not giving credit where it's _actually_ due.

    Honestly, I’d say the biggest missed opportunity is not having a episode that focuses on the kids all together. Boyd and Lena could bond over their atypical origins, Gosalyn hanging out with the other kids (especially Webby), parental bonding between Drake, Donald, Gyro etc. Heck, maybe an episode focusing on Doofus handling being a normal kid and how Gyro fits into the Drakes.
    Also, leaving the Negaduck thread hanging. He was initially meant to appear in LGD, but they decided to leave him out so the story could focus on Gosalyn more.
    That could change with the podcast, but we’ll have to wait and see.

    Bradford, in my opinion, is not only one of the best ducktales villains (the best), but one of the best written Disney villains, and I’m not just talking about Disney shows. I mean he is up there with Disney villains like hades, scar, maleficent, etc. He has a brilliant origin, I was never expecting him to be related to the legendary Isabella Finch, the actor who plays him, Marc Evan Jackson (who I’m already a fan of from the good place) is perfect for the role, the way the creators introduced him to us is honestly mind blowing, making the viewers believer both himself, the other vultures and even FOWL were all throwaway characters to the big bars of the entire show, responsible for pulling every string like a puppet master. I can’t think of a problem with him and I haven’t even gotten to the best part, that part is that both himself and most of fowl have the ability to return (remember Disney are making a dark wing series) and with the stone of what was making clones it’s pretty easy to bring him back, we saw a clone already and by using the third eye diamond, we have Bradford buzzard back basically. That’s why when he gets the sword of swansintine, he becomes a large very evil looking person, because inside he’s a villain, but he doesn’t realize it. They tried to get basically every character in there and have a moment that showed how every character has grown through the series. This is really hard to do in a single episode, and they kinda nailed it. You mentioned Huey's moment, there's also a moment where Louie uses his people skills to help Dewey realize he really has the skills to get them out of a tough situation, and the adults fully acknowledged how valuable the kids were. Even if it wasn't much, every character had at least a moment in this episode where they shined, and somehow they managed to pull that off without this episode feeling unfocused.

      I kind of feel like Webby being Scrooge's biological daughter kind of takes away from the found family aspect that they established early on in season 1. She was already a part of the family, placing her as a blood daughter didn't feel necessary. I kind of would of liked it if she was the true heir without being related to him. After all, out of all the kids, none of them are more deserving or more likely to carry on Scrooge's legacy than Webby. The Papyrus is supposed to twist the meanings of it's words against common expectations and Webby being his rightful successor without being biologically related would have cemented the ideals of the cast being made of a large extended family.

      I think the thing is that in the other seasons, the focused triplet had their own episode before the season finale to end a major portion of their arc and to put the next episode in full swing mostly detached from their arc, Dewey finally discovering the secret of the Spear of Selene and then setting up Scrooge as a lonely vulnerable old man again, and Louie finally learning what it truly means to be the richest duck in the world with Penumbra warning Della about the invasion thanks to Louie’s reckless actions, while for season 3 they needed the extra 23 minutes to make a satisfying FINAL adventure with many of the important main/side characters, so they gave Huey his own overarching final arc separate from most characters during the 69 minutes that happened in tandem with all the other characters’ moments, so I personally think he got as much focus as the other triplets in their season, it just happened to occur when everyone else was having some focus on their story

It was really nice of Scrooge to pay for Webby to have her birthday at Funzo's even though he didn't know she was his daughter, I also liked seeing Boyd, Lena and Gosalyn take out the cameras. I loved getting to learn about Webby's past, and with her being made from Scrooges DNA so she is his daughter I didn't see coming(so long all ships with Webby and any of the triplets, to be fair their children so it wasn't going to happen anyway and the creators said they weren't going to give Webby a love interest). This episode was perfect. I LOVED seeing Gosalyn back. In the fight with SteelBeak, Gosalyn really felt like Quiverwing Quack(her hero identity from the original Darkwing Duck). Darkwing is clueless(maybe also just not wanting to believe Fenton is GizmoDuck). Bradford is officially the most evil character. Using the lesson from the first episode and the season one finally was perfect. And overall the ending was perfect. A few things I wanted to see were Fenton being the one to rescue Gandra and see more interactions with them and see Gosalyn and Webby interact. But over all this was perfect and the ending credits was really fun. A storyboard artist revealed a while back that in Let’s Get Dangerous, Bulba originally would’ve been arrested at the end of part 1, and Negaduck (posing as Bulba’s new assistant) would’ve revealed himself right before bringing over the Fearsome Four, but the crew, especially Frank Angones, felt Negaduck would’ve been done a major disservice with what little focus he would actually get
      I do think that would’ve been a legitimate problem because as opposed to The Duck Knight Returns, where the episode is as much an origin for Negaduck as it is for DW, Negaduck would’ve only gotten a few short moments sprinkled throughout and at the end when compared to to how much time DW, Gosalyn, and Launchpad would get in the 23 minutes, or the moments between Bradford and the triplets, or even the moments the Fearsome Four got when separated from Bulba, since the plots of the episode were more of the DW trio coming together and the triplets discovering Bradford’s true motives, so I do get why instead of trying to shove Negaduck in halfway through, they instead let Bulba have more breathing room to still have his build-up from part 1, and be able to get a few moments as a supervillainous crime boss in part 2
      (That being said the storyboards did look very fun and I hope they can reuse the idea of Negaduck using acting skills to gain access to a weapon in the future)

    I personally felt like Webby's main character was that she didn't have to be blood related to the McDucks to be considered family and whether or not the finale intended it, it kind of soured that message to me. Almost like it was saying that without a blood relation to Scrooge, she didn't belong in the family at all. I don't think it meant to, quite the contrary I think they wanted to throw Webby a huge bone, giving her what she always would have wanted, but I personally think it could have been really good if she was the housekeeper's granddaughter by blood, but family in all other senses.
    But that's just me.

    • @Doomzdeh
      @Doomzdeh 6 місяців тому +3

      Eh, we knew from the beginning that Beakley was hiding something from Webby. That gave the character motivation and intrigue.
      And I wouldn’t say that Webby being Scrooge’s daughter sours the message that family doesn’t come from blood. Lena is considered family and yet isn’t blood related to the McDucks. Launchpad has also been there since the beginning and is considered family. Same for Beakley too. And some would say that Gyro and Boyd would even fit into that category.
      Webby’s main theme has been identity. She wanted so badly to know about her parents, only to ultimately find that FOWL made her for their own purposes. This comes close to crushing her, until she realizes that she is related to her personal hero. I personally think that it’s a fantastic end to Webby’s arc, as it is a satisfying mystery, ties her into the main conflict, and finally gives her a satisfying answer as to who her parents were, as it just wouldn’t be all that interesting if we found out that they were nobodies after all of this buildup.

    I appreciate all the little touches that the finale adds in to make it work. Take, for example, when Bradford promises to tell Webby why she was created if she helps him. Nobody acknowledges it in the moment, but the Harp of Mervana would have called him out on it if he were lying, so Webby knew he was telling the truth! Little details like that are why this show isn't just another cartoon.
    Honestly, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic may have affected me more, emotionally, and is still my favorite cartoon, but Ducktales (2017) is probably, objectively, the best animated show I've ever seen, and I will recommend it to anyone who seems remotely interested.

    The one way I think the finale really fell short was how the thematic meaning of Webby (technically) being Scrooge's daughter was presented. The DuckTales crew wanted to say that blood relations aren't what defines a family, but who you come to love and support as a family does. In short, beyond some shock value, Webby being Scrooge's daughter shouldn't change anything between them.
    You can sort of tell what their intentions were through Webby's big speech at the end, but then they also emphasize the revelation and play it up a lot and you can clearly tell that Scrooge sees Webby differently now. It undercuts the theme.
    DuckTales is all about found family and demonstrates this beautifully through Lena leaving Magica and joining a new family or Mrs. Beakley's motherly bond with Webby surviving the revelation that Mrs. Beakley is not actually related to Webby. Even Scrooge's initial relationship with Webby was a great example of this. But they kind of dropped the ball here.
    It still is only a minor complaint, though.

    • @PeachWookiee
      @PeachWookiee 3 роки тому +12

      I don’t think it changed that much, honestly. Scrooge more or less had Donald and Della as his surrogate children in the very beginning and the way he reacted when Della returned was a father embracing his child he’d thought dead. Scrooge has kids he has been a surrogate father to. And Webby just happened to be his by blood and they didn’t even know it. Her adoptive mom didn’t even know, for that is what Bentina Beakley truly is.

    Although I can respect that you love the finale so much, that's not the same story for me. I feel as though Huey's plot got pushed to the side way to much, and that his story arch wasn't properly resolved (like Dewey's and Louie's were). Also, I'm not against a Webby plot, but I feel as though making her apart of the female triplets (April, May, and June) just doesn't really work, because the female triplets were originally Daisy's nieces and are basically the female version of the triplets (Huey, Dewey and Louie). I know it's a minor thing but really, I think if they had been any other name I would have been fine with it, but I would have felt better if they just excluded Daisy's niece entirely, because it's basically just removing April from the trio. There are many other problems I have with the finale, but to put it simply, I feel as though they strayed too far from the original stories (Ducktales, Daisy's family, basically just the Duck family in general) and that they tried to cram in too much in the finale, there should have been an episode where Huey's plot gets resolved and then the finale could be focused on Webby, I would have been satisfied with that.
    Either way, I respect your opinion on the finale, and I really like the video. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Although I think we can all agree that Mickey, Minnie, Pluto or even Goofy, should have had at least a short cameo, even if just for a single screenshot.

    Bradford never worked for me as a compeling villain due to his plan not being possible in the long run along with his self sabotaging of his own group and his overall focus on Scrooge being the ""only" chaotic thing he needed to focus on. While having the papyrus was a great idea and getting it worked, he shouldn't have relied on it as the only means to stop Scrooge but also find a way to conitnue his means of acheving order; true he said there were risk of the papyrus being too literal but if he were careful enough he could have found away. Also, him calling Scrooge an unpredictable threat doesn't truly hold that much water when he's not the only one that is unpredictable in the world that Bradford needed to keep an eye; he focused so much on Scrooge that never could take into account being like Magica (when she imprisoned and used Lena), Lunaris (when he knew nothing about aliens being on the moon), Glomgold (who is by every definition of unpredictable), and just being from other dimensions that can come into there world now that it's been proven by his own former FOWL sceientist Taursu Bulbua that if they can open another dimension so can anyone else. There's also goverments, busineses, and even regular people who could be inspired to go on adventures and mess things that is out of the ordinary that Bradford never had any control over and neither did Scrooge Lastly, him getting rid of Black Heron and his own clones just to prove a point was just foolish; not saying getting rid of them wouldn't need to happen later but he could have waited until he succeded. I''m not trying to add too much logic into this since his plan never go in the way of the plot and story wrap ups but even so a final villain like him should have known better and thought a lot of it more through if he's going to win; even before all of this I did not believe Bradord was going to win no and I almost believed Magica and Lunaris could have one in their season finale episodes to some capcity. (Sorry if this was long but I can't help going off on how bad Bradford's plan really was and how his backstory didn't make me feel bad for him in any way.)

    As a season finale this was good but as series finales go, this was pretty lame and felt super rushed.
    Webby being an artificial scrooge mcduck heir was a cool story idea but one that came out of nowhere. May and June should have been introduced earlier this season.
    I enjoyed Bradford as a villain and he was the standout for sure. but bradford being the grandson of Isabella finch was just not really needed and added nothing to the story. Bradford not liking adventuring because it brings upon chaos is good enough.
    There were quite a few ideas that were really cool and i liked how there were several references to past episodes and how isabella's mysteries all tied together.
    the ending...was not great. no huge epilogue and the whole "family is the greatest adventure" thing was such a cop out. i wish they handled the resolution of that storyline much better. it just doesn't feel very satisfying to me which is a shame because i loved every previous season finale. I must say tho, the credits were a nice touch.
    This was supposed to be the Endgame of Ducktales(and the creators certaintly are capable of doing that), but in the end i just find myself disappointed and unsatisfied. I wish more of this season focused on the fowl plotline more, the ideas introduced in this finale could have been established a few episodes ago.

      Makes you wonder how different this show would've been with four seasons. Would they have kept this season the same and continued from there or would they push the Fowl plotline back and have a different villain take centerstage for the third season (possibly Negaduck or Dr Akita).

    Honestly wasn't a fan of the reveal that Webby was Scrooge's daughter bc the show kept reinforcing the idea that you get to choose your family, so to have webby be validated only bc she was in fact biologically part of the Duck family completely goes against that.
    At the same time, Webby's utter joy and happiness at the end makes it worth it bc she's my absolute favorite character and seeing her embraced and surrounded by love made me happy and made it all worth it.
    Still prefer the season 2 finale tbh but that's just me

      You mentioned a factor you personally dislike and it can be a reasonable criticism, but some of us are allowed to not be bothered by said factor.
      You're entitled to your opinions, but I'm also entitled to mine.

      By claiming I said X when I never said X specifically, you discredit your entire argument.
      I might have said Y, and Y conveys a similar point to X, but Y conveys a less extreme point than X does.
      It can be interpreted that you tried to refute me by blowing my review out of proportion.

    I just really hate that Webby's entire arc was that she was not technically part of the family, and then this was further shown when the clones cut the threads to everyone and then even farther by the fact that she was a fowl clone and not even related to Beakly, but then she just ends up being literally related to Scrooge undoing all of that

    I think that Timephoon is the worst episode of Ducktales because Della grounded Louie when not even being told that his siblings have also stolen stuff and almost got their family killed like Huey and Dewey stealing Scrooge’s submarine or Dewey joining Don Karnage’s crew just to get attention, Louie should still kind of know that messing with time can have consequences since he has probably watched movies and shows where that happens even though he was being greedy about the treasure. Della also should have stayed with Louie instead of going on his dream adventure with the rest of her family and leaving him with a robot that had a history of turning evil but Glomtales is still better than Timephoon because it was Scrooge’s team against Glomgold’s team and Louie’s scheming in the end saved his family.

      Well, I think he deserved to be grounded for at least 10 years. I mean, nearly destroying the universe because of utter greed and before even becoming a teen is clearly wrong on so many levels. Though, I guess he didn't intend on doing it. Still, it was kinda good that Della left him alone and Huey called him which was kinda added torture.
      Also, even clearly being in the wrong, he still chose to be stubborn and tried to leave the house.

    I get that it had a lot going for it, and the finale did do a pretty good ending, but it really didn’t click with me. It just played off a whole bunch of tropes that went against what Bradford was all about: Villainy without being a villain.
    His organization played into so many tropes, despite the fact that he worked against that happening. It just seems a bit off, like this isn’t the full story for him, just a nagging at the back of my mind. Surely he wouldn’t have just that as his plan? It was just so simple, so easy to foil...
    It just seems like he should have more, and he fell short of expectations.
