Some times I wonder what's the point of saving all your money to be rich when your old and didn't have any fun when you where young?? Being rich and not having any fun kinda takes the fun outta being rich lol. My point is have fun with your money. You only live once I think hehehehe.
Once you buy one of these you need to enjoy it because you are going to take a beating getting rid of it. And these cars are entering their maintenance years
Depreciation happens and it has nothing to do with being a "money pit." It has to do with the limited market that can afford them once the warranty period is over.
The MB S550 is a affordable and easy car to repair. I own the S600 (W221) and it's been FLAWLESS. Now a few things will hurt your pockets (Coil Packs X 2) but you can have them rebuilt instead of buying them new from the Stealership. I purchased mine with 82k and receipts from the former owner equaling $15k. I purchased it for under 20k. It's been 10k miles and a dream! I'll be doing a review on it.........why the S600 over the S550.......the big ticket items and well as easy and affordable fixes. I'll be reviewing my other cars as well!!
Great Top 10 List, Drew! My favorite on the list probably has to be your number 2 pick... It'll definitely look like you paid a fortune for it. As always, DriveAndBeDriven will be STAYING GOLD!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Nothing more expensive than a cheap luxury car. I had a cheap Mercedes- we called it my German Super Model Girlfriend. A high maintenance gal that went through shoes like crazy that I loved but didn't love me back.
Buy any of these cars and you will wind up buying a big time problem: maintenance. Why do you think these cars are unbelievable cheap now? Because nobody wants to buy a problem...
Looking through the comments sometimes it's nice to live, especially when you get older, go for the fast and expensive cars while you can and do what you can while you can still can, is my message.
Good price for these cars but it so hard to find parts to fix. Got to call around for the parts and waiting for months. Dealership don’t mind working on the car but dealership don’t have the parts. Take a good care of the cars because eveytime u step on the paddle u taking a chance straight to dealership or shop. Overall these are nice cars.
For each car on this list, the 5 year ownership cost is at LEAST double the purchase price. E.g. a $15,000 used Porsche will need at least $15,000 in repairs over the course of 5 years.
But you'll have a well-maintained Porsche that cost you $6K a year to drive and still has resale value. Buy a new one and drive it for 5 years and what's the yearly cost of that? It's all relative - and, of course, relative to your interest in maintenance. None of these are Camrys or Civics. Highly tuned and optioned cars cost a lot to own, but as the piece shows, can be "bargains" of a sort.
Wow! I can’t believe you can get a 2014 Maserati for under $30,000. That’s crazy!! That definitely would be my pick of the list if I were to get one of these type vehicles. A Viper is very tempting though. Lol. Great list and video Drew!
Do you have the Top 10 list of cars that will make you look poor.. 12) 2003-2014 Jaguar XJ6 ( The king of all money pit’s) You will end up homeless if you own this car 11) 2009 Suzuki Firenza 10) 2000 Daewoo Leganza ( People will think you have a Swiss bank account if they see you driving this luxury import) 9) 2013 Hyundai Genesis 8) 2014 Kia Rio 7). 2008 Pontiac Soltice 6) 2012 Chevy Cobalt 5) 2012 Land Rover discovery 4) 2018 Jeep Renegade 3) 2003 Kia Optima ( This car will turn many heads and will break some necks) 2) 2008 Mercedes E320 1) 2010 BMW 525i 0) 2008 Saturn Sky
From 96 to 08 Ford owned Jaguar. quality and dependability increased immensely. xj6 discontinued in the u.s 97 became xj8. Bad engine design Nikasil coating wear due to u.s emissions demand for low sulphur fuel.(not a Ford design) BMW used the same engine. Both this and timing chain tensioners issues were resolved by late 2000 model. i own a 06 s type r for 9 years and it has been one of the most dependable cars I've owned. 143798 trouble free miles Jaguar/Ford stop importing the 6cyl Jag in 97. Yes the 98-00 Jags were problematic but warranty covered it during the warranty period. 2001 to 2008 Jaguars are under rated. Very dependable IMHO.
Edit, they stop importing the inline 6 cyl. not the v6. The X Type Jag only the v6 was available, Xj8 4.0 n/a and-4.2ltr supercharged. S type 3.0 v6 4.0 v8 n/a or supercharged 4.2 n/a or supercharged.
@Wolfshadow Morningstar Damn straight! Retired with money in my pocket and not in someone else's pocket for a high end car. I know how to live cheaply and be happy. Life is good!
There is one problem about these cars. Service. A colleague purchased one of those Maserati cars and a vehicle service contract (extended warranty) for only a few thousand dollars. He was so proud about how for the next 3 yrs / 36,000 he was covered. That's fine. Good for him. However, when he came in to change the oil, it was $8,000. No one told him that. He re-sold the car back to the Maserati dealership in under a year. I don't see him in that car any longer.
I bought a 2007 Bentley Continental flying spur for $41,000 2 years ago. My mechanic does all the maintenance. You can buy a new car that cost more than that and look like everyone else. My car the price already bottomed out won't lose a dime
I also bought a 2007 Flying Spur here in Wales five years ago. I viewed it one day, did the deal next day and drove to Italy on the third. I've been piling on the miles ever since. Its a great way to indulge myself, and enjoy some heavy engineering. A Jaguar XJ or Range Rover Vogue will have the same affect, and my wife says her Jaguar XK convertible with its 4.2 V8 should be on the list too. We run two brilliant Renault electric cars for shopping trips, so we don't always burn gas, so the costs are kept under control. Most people seems to be querying the maintenance costs. Why? Going to a better restaurant will cost you more than a junk food place. Buying a decent wine is more expensive than cheap beer. The experience you get from a super-car is costly, but that's because its vastly superior, so don't be surprised when it costs more than a Toyota. It should. But if you are looking for help, do some research for a local specialist company that can take over the maintenance once you've been scared by the main dealer rates. Most specialists know a great deal about these cars and usually much more than main dealers about the older models, so track them down and get an idea of annual charges before you buy the car. You might be pleasantly surprised. But learn the car. The extra features need to be treated well. If you have air-suspension, for example, you should wait for an older car to get pumped up before driving off. Cool the turbochargers before switching off after a fast run. Don't crash into a kerb if you want the steering to remain accurate. Treat the car like a thoroughbred racehorse and not a pack animal.
U said in Maryland.. There is a Fisker Karma on 46th st off Eastern ave up the street from Home depot. Its under a cover in the driveway. Saw him washing it one day and didnt know what it was and had to look it up
Oh you whiffed BIG TIME on the 2004-06 VW PHAETON V-10 and W12. Both (Get this) Under $12k. I went neck to neck with a Jaguar XJS and have it hell, and then pulled away.
Guys who buy these types of cars are called : LOSERS. The richest guy I ever met took the subway to his office. Never saw the guy drink or smoke either. Has a net worth of over $1 Billion...
you'll need to save all that money on the purchase because if you buy one of these beauties you'll go broke repairing & servicing these money guzzlers. Lookup a service maintenance call not repair and you'll run. Lookup a scheduled oil change for a mustang and a then a Mercedes-Benz, I rest my case, Oh BTW if it's a diesel, add another 100 bucks or more.
Sly Foxx yeah, but you can be smart and still have some fun, otherwise your letting life pass you by. Just bought my 2nd Porsche after driving my last one 13 years. Go pre owned certified...covered unlimited mileage 4 years. Can easily get rid of it if it’s a lemon. Enjoy life.
Well a 2007 S Class is now 11 years old so that price is normal for most cars that old. But it will still drive like the day it left the showroom floor. It will feel solid and it will be silent and comfortable.
I’m surprised the C7 Corvette stingray never makes these lists. You can get them as low as the mid to high 30s, 0-60 in 3.8 seconds, voted the number one car to hold onto its value, fits right in (both looks and performance wise) with a lineup of lambos and Ferraris, and inexpensive maintenance.
I would rather drive my Tesla Model 3 AWD, 0-60 in 4.4 in blissful quiet, and 4 cents a mile for fuel. No oil change, the brakes don't wear out. And if you want something stupid fast, the Performance Model 3 is 0-60 in 3.2.
Most people don’t have 10k or 20k alone lol , so any car above 20k - 30k is not cheap . So if you own a car above 20k then your somewhat doing better than most already. IMO
Nicks Kicks exactly haha , they are not cheap . Atleast to me if I see one in the street I do believe the guy driving it is doing better than me 😂. I like the fisker and vador , not cheap to meat all in my opinion
Buy a Toyota MR2. People will think you got deep pockets especially the Spyder edition. MR2s are low maintenance being a Toyota and all. The MR2 is becoming more and more rare as well. You get reliability with looks
GTR w/ AWD and 480 hp holy shit I want one, That sounds so crazy to me being that small of a car it’s gotta scream on the road and handle beautifully did I say I want one yet 🤤
I like all of these cars. I would choose the Fisker Karma! Love the styling on that one! AWESOME and fun video u did here. Very informative too! Thanks! I will definitely do some research on these cars. LOL
People have to understand, DEFINITELY you will find a Bentley GT for that price, but seeing the picture of the GTC? NO you will not find a convertable for that price. Possibly $75,000 and if you want a GTC Speed you are up around $90 and a GTC Supersports even more. One Bentley model that you didn't mention was the "Flying Spur" Sedan. You can even find this luxury vehicle in the LOW $30k's. And if it has a Mulliner package, the classiness is on another level. Here is what they look like www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/789784719/overview/ I will tell you, you drive up in a Flying Spur next to a S Class Mercedes owner they will always tip their hat outta respect and admiration. New it is a car that most of them could never buy. These type of vehicles the body style does not change dramatically and since they're so expensive most people have taken very good care of them!
Where I live there are so many Bentleys and other expensive cars I have gotten used to seeing them to the point they are not special anymore. The only car that will make me look twice is a phantom. For the most part, cars can be a huge waste of money. All you need is reliable transportation. Plus I’m kind of an introvert and I wouldn’t want people coming up to me if I had a nice car anyway.
The depreciation on these is interesting. Although very few if any of these did anyone pay sticker price for. Anyway pretty good list but should be considered only if you have someone who can service whatever one you pick cheap. Parts are always insanely expensive but if you need to take your Maserati to a dealership, you might consider just leaving it there.
s allen Everyone that has one of these cars has a insane aftermarket warranty. Without that most people couldn’t afford the maintenance. Remember these cars are only famous because the prices are set so high that the average consumer thinks that they can’t afford them. If you budget your money right and make your money work for you, you can have any car that you want. Honestly it all starts with your credit. Look up Atlanta Luxury Motors. Don’t believe everything that you see. These cars are not as expensive as people make them out to be. You can by a wrecked one for the low and fix it up and then it is yours. People are doing it left and right with Tesla’s and a bunch of other vehicles.
Not sure if you have experience with high end watches but yes they do have repairs. Every year or two you'll need servicing and polishing of you choose and can run $700 and up. Swiss made automatics and other mechanical watches will not run forever without maintaining it
If you take care of your foreign it'll take of you.Dont drive it like a Buick and you won't have to worry about maintenance problems. Also you have to have another car.I buy used foreigns and never had a major issue. Some cars I never had no issues, only changing oil.
The lower priced of all of these, good luck with the bills to get everything fixed. For any of them, good luck affording the upkeep. There's a reason they sell for what they do. I haven't looked these up recently, but I'm pretty sure the avg cost is closer to the upper range given, and the low mileage clean examples going for a lot more. So no, not crazy prices at all. You get what you pay for. I'll stick with my newer mainstream car. So top 10 cheap cars that might make you look rich that might also make you poor.
Omg, Aston Martin tho, real slick...I’ve been driven around in a Maserati b4, it was alright but this video makes me uneasy 😬 tho, kinda how I feel in the BMW service dept., 😳. I’m in agreement with previous commenters about these money 💰 pits when reality sets in, so true😎.
Theres 2 cars that will surprise you that I think you overlooked, you seen the s550 amg but check out the s600, its twin turbo v12 for 20,000 and has way more luxury upgrades than the s550, s550 just has handling and aero package on a s500, also my main favorite car is the sl65 amg, twin turbo v12 that makes 640hp/700tq for 30-40,000.
nice list dude. these cars will make you look rich but at the same time they will make you poor. If someone doesnt mind sleeping in their cars, these are really good options.
I guess I'm just too lazy to want to look rich. As everybody here has already said, maintenance and fuel costs will kill ya with these cars. But I think a bigger headache is finding a place to work on them (there aren't a lot of places in my neighborhood willing to take on a "Ferrari derived engine"), AND, while your beautiful status symbol is sitting in a garage 25 miles from your home for the fourth time in three months, you've got to find something else to drive. I went a different route -- bought a 2015 Genesis (Hyundai's upscale brand). It's built by Hyundai so it's not likely to break; it has the features, power, comfort, and driveability of a 2015 mid-level BMW or Mercedes (although less sticker status); looks really nice; has loads of interior space and a 5-star safety rating; with only 40K on the odo, it still has plenty of warranty left; and if it ever does break, there's a Hyundai dealer close to my house. Best of all, it looks brand new, has every option you could have bought on ANY 2015 car (auto-opening trunk, power everything, premium sound system, auto-lane change assist, adaptive cruise control, wood dash, Nappa leather, head-up display, etc.), and cost under $24,000 out the door. I don't drive a lot since I work at home, so I figure I'll get at least ten trouble-free years out of this car.
These luxury cars will bankrupt the average person with the repair bills. They will end up as STATUES in your driveway. I had a 2011 sl550 amg Mercedes that cost me $28k just to maintain for 4 years. Never again.
Chrysler 300 hemi is the cheaper option, it shares components with police vehicles and work trucks so there's plenty of cheap parts available for the drivetrain
Timothy Dorsey My brother the Suv is pretty nice i won’t lie , but if you ever do get your hands on one , it’s has to be hella decked out to the max ! but other than that it a nice suv
I drive a 1995 Mercedes E420 279 horsepower 4. 2 L V8. Runs perfect. With 200, 000 miles. I have no doubt it will get me to 400, 000. It's plenty fast and classy. And mostly maintenance-free. Oh yeah, I paid $1, 500.
my 2003 s500 4matic ticket price $97000 stole it for $3500 polish the headlight fix a scratch match the seat color paint to fix a coffe spot on the passanger seat 2 front shocks Arnot after market and 2 power mirror rubber seal $1000 extra used it 2 years and give it away for $5000...........never ever buy new cars just buy old expensive ones fully loaded and make sure every 2 years jump....before i had an 1995 E300 Diesel $55000 ticket price got it for $5700 spent $400 on top notch Pirelli tires and repainted it in Mexico for a $1000............best milage ever on a vehicle hgwy 1200KM city 800KM with an 65 liter fill up

Never understood the need to go 188 MPH Heck here in Houston during rush hour ( which is 8 hours everyday) you don't even move 30 MPH ! Insurance and repair bills I myself like number 10 the best! But I'm happy with my Hyundai SantaFe!!!
The keys to owning one of these used luxury cars and getting your money's worth out of it without the high repair bills are 1).Do your research on the car before u buy it. There's nothing worse than buying something that the previous owner completely dogged out. 2).Don't use it as a daily driver. 3). Never EVER take it to the dealership for ANYTHING, that's how u end up spending way more than what it actually costs for maintenance. Find a mechanic in your area that specializes in foreign cars, they're usually less expensive than dealerships unless it's something like the engine or trans. 4). Only drive it on weekends or whenever you're going out. I bought a 2007 S550 in 2012 and the only thing I've had to replace on that car in the 7 years that I've owned it is the pump and relay, and that didn't happen for 3 years after I bought it. My mechanic does all my oil changes regularly for a fraction of what the Benz dealership would cost me. It's 2019 and my car still looks and rides great, if I could post pics on here I would. But I've had my fun with her over the years and sadly to say, I will be trading her in for the mid engine Corvette next summer. I would keep her but I know I would never EVER drive her again once I get my Vette so she has to go. Whoever gets her will be getting a very well kept Mercedes. 😥
Hello Andrew! Nice topic! I really enjoyed this video! You should do more of that stuff. Since you have all the experience and footage from the reviews, it's a good addition to your channel! I personally liked best the GT-R and the Aston Martin! Incredible the prices you have in the states! :)
I've had a 2007 Bentley Continental Flying Spur the last 4+ years. While it is an amazing looking car the maintenance is crazy. I've had minor hiccups that really didn't effect how the car drives whatsoever; such as a leaking turbo line that needed to be replaced. $2,500 later... it was fixed. I'm talking no check engine light on, no effect on performance. It was a small leak over a few mos. and didn't even effect the oil level on the dipstick. I've had several stupid stuff like this go on over the time I've owned it. The worst was a $4,500 bill to replace the air shocks in the front (they adj. based on height, mode, etc.). So yes a true head turner, but you need to have some money in savings for these types of cars. I use a Bentley specialist (non-dealer) and the fees are still crazy for dumb stuff. The air shocks I said to my guy... why does this go when I only have $35k miles on the vehicle. He said it's 10+ years old, weighs more than most large SUV's so it's not about use... they just wear out over time and not much you can do about it. Live and learn. I've owned a lot of exotics and this is def. up there w/maintenance cost (nothing beat my piece of crap original 1997 Hummer H1 convertible), but Maserati was my best exotic. I still wish I never sold it :) Had a 2009 Gran Turismo. Outside of reg. maint. not a damn thing went wrong w/that beautiful sounding car (crappy int. that melted over time), but that's another story.
I have a 911S Porsche, if you buy one used, be aware your oil change is $600. A tune up is a hell of a lot more. I suggest buying new, as everything is under warranty and your not shocked at your maintenance bill.

Murray Cuthbertson exactly and its not even the parts it’s the man hours at the mechanics
It's how to look rich by having that much money to throw away in repairs.

Depreciation happens and it has nothing to do with being a "money pit." It has to do with the limited market that can afford them once the warranty period is over.

Great job! This is exactly what I was going for; affordable but looks like money. Perfect price range as well.
Nothing more expensive than a cheap luxury car. I had a cheap Mercedes- we called it my German Super Model Girlfriend. A high maintenance gal that went through shoes like crazy that I loved but didn't love me back.
Lol hilarious!
Everyone of these cars have TONS of aftermarket parts readily available for great prices.
For each car on this list, the 5 year ownership cost is at LEAST double the purchase price. E.g. a $15,000 used Porsche will need at least $15,000 in repairs over the course of 5 years.
Not even close for the Mercedes. It's pretty reliable. If the BMW M5 was on this list, you'd be correct.
Don’t keep it that long. Sell after 3 months after everyone has seen you drive it.
Have you even owned a Porsche? I’ve had four and they were all reliable and affordable to own and maintain. Nice try, though.
Don’t buy the mofo if you can’t afford the repairs
Wow! I can’t believe you can get a 2014 Maserati for under $30,000. That’s crazy!! That definitely would be my pick of the list if I were to get one of these type vehicles. A Viper is very tempting though. Lol. Great list and video Drew!
Thanks Eli!
😂😂 might as well join the crew
The video says " cars that make someone look rich" . He achieved the intent. Repair bills is another video
In 2016 I bought a Mercedes Benz E350 convertible with only 9,000 miles for $40,000.00. A deal I could not pass up.
Great video Drew. For me, it is a toss between the Porshe 911 or the Nissan GTR.
I like the direction you are going with your content.
Thanks, appreciate it!
One Word: MAINTENANCE 💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰
...........depreciation💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰
That's why people bail on them and the sellers have to take drastic depreciation to move them.
@@deacondavis5098 unless you a mechanic with tools n shop. It's affordable
Ten examples of how a fool and his money are soon parted. Nice cars all the same.
Do you have the Top 10 list of cars that will make you look poor..
12) 2003-2014 Jaguar XJ6 ( The king of all money pit’s) You will end up homeless if you own this car
11) 2009 Suzuki Firenza
10) 2000 Daewoo Leganza ( People will think you have a Swiss bank account if they see you driving this luxury import)
9) 2013 Hyundai Genesis
8) 2014 Kia Rio
7). 2008 Pontiac Soltice
6) 2012 Chevy Cobalt
5) 2012 Land Rover discovery
4) 2018 Jeep Renegade
3) 2003 Kia Optima ( This car will turn many heads and will break some necks)
2) 2008 Mercedes E320
1) 2010 BMW 525i
0) 2008 Saturn Sky
🤣🤣🤣🤣thats funny
My 2013 Hyundai Genesis may make me look poor but it ain't breaking the bank. "Rolling cheap with money in my pocket!""
@Wolfshadow Morningstar Damn straight! Retired with money in my pocket and not in someone else's pocket for a high end car. I know how to live cheaply and be happy. Life is good!
Thanks 4 the list👍
Very informative..
Jeff Krzyzanski and the maintenancecost ?
#FACTS
Great comment! I really now will get one. Thank you!
I thinking about getting one too
I also bought a 2007 Flying Spur here in Wales five years ago.
That is crazy and just motivated me for next year thank you from Gangstaville Radio
The money pit list
I'll take the GTR! 👌
by far the best car on the list
I haven't seen one in the 30s.
I want a Maserati GranTurismo. It's the maintenance costs that scare me the most, but definitely a car that will get you looks and good performance.
Agreed! Definitely a head turner plus you feel like a million bucks driving it! :-)
You have a point but they are so hard to find.
I was looking at Bentley’s on cars.com and I found a 2013 continental flying spur for 50k!!!
Your best bet would be the Fischer because it's electric! Probably no tune ups.. No oil change. . no premium gas.. Man you are everywhere lol
Thank you just what the doctor order!!! Awesome video now I feel super great about my future vehicles purchases.
Tammy Adams528. beautyful I don't want to look rich. U wany to b rich.
Fidel Castrosolis was this a flex?
I’d rather have a Lexus LS340. Very luxurious and very reliable. For under $10K all day long. Many have well over 200,000 miles with zero issues.
Drive used camery's for 25 years and invest a car payment each month and you'll actually begin to become rich.
Enjoy life.
The twin turbo 2012 Benz Cls amg 63 performance package,550 hp,186 mph
Can beat several of this list and now is under 40 k also.
Well a 2007 S Class is now 11 years old so that price is normal for most cars that old. But it will still drive like the day it left the showroom floor. It will feel solid and it will be silent and comfortable.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Drew! I keep dreaming about Nissan GTR until I really get one of those 😝
I’m surprised the C7 Corvette stingray never makes these lists. You can get them as low as the mid to high 30s, 0-60 in 3.8 seconds, voted the number one car to hold onto its value, fits right in (both looks and performance wise) with a lineup of lambos and Ferraris, and inexpensive maintenance.
U said kwy word hold value these cars have no value
I would rather drive my Tesla Model 3 AWD, 0-60 in 4.4 in blissful quiet, and 4 cents a mile for fuel. No oil change, the brakes don't wear out. And if you want something stupid fast, the Performance Model 3 is 0-60 in 3.2.
Endless money pits.
Scotty Kilmer would approve of this message 😂
I’ll chance the Aston Martin Vantage
Trying way too hard with the Radio DJ voice brah.
Rich sucks unless your happy. Happy is priceless.
Two corrections on the 911. 1993-1997 was the tailend of the air cooled Porsches and those are FAR from cheap. The 911 has a NA Flat 6 not a V6. 😉
Here is what they look like
www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/789784719/overview/
I will tell you, you drive up in a Flying Spur next to a S Class Mercedes owner they will always tip their hat outta respect and admiration.
Buy a diamond Rolex for 40k instead. At least it doesn’t have maintenance
Not sure if you have experience with high end watches but yes they do have repairs. Every year or two you'll need servicing and polishing of you choose and can run $700 and up. Swiss made automatics and other mechanical watches will not run forever without maintaining it
They will only have value for your grandchildren. When they find it in the garage because you weren't able to repair it.
Still a better place to put your money. Skip the Rolex and go for a Patek Philippe or Vercheron Constantine
If you take care of your foreign it'll take of you.Dont drive it like a Buick and you won't have to worry about maintenance problems. Also you have to have another car.I buy used foreigns and never had a major issue. Some cars I never had no issues, only changing oil.
I always imagine using the money for a brand new car to buy something I loved in the past that's probably affordable now. Thanks for this video.
Man. Cant wait to see your beast modified.
That’s 10 minutes or so i will never get back. No new discoveries. He does have some good advertisers.

Nice luxury collection for the warehouse!
Loved the video, thank you
I wish Scotty releases a reaction video to this list
Absolutely. It would be splendid.
