That's a good question. I like BMW'S but i do not believe right now you can drive a BMW right up to 200000 miles as easy as a Lexus. I still believe that up to 200000 miles it is still easier to achieve in an Acura than a German car. I could be wrong, but we have to see.
@@ajevthetruthisthetruthnotc8390 to me it's the vital "existential" question as I cannot ever hope to buy new in Australia. I appreciate that engine longevity got a lot harder with high performance turbo engines. But Kia's Stinger GT can manage a 7year warranty.

And consumer reports has been around for decades, sooooooo they must be a reliable source to succeed for this long, and has never failed me and anyone else I know either.
When it's time for a service they change the oils and filters that's not going to stop it breaking lol So usually don't change the fuel filter on the diesel even though you pay for it

The codes for those failures were in the system before the warranty was done in Texas --Mark Interlicchia Walter's Mercedes-Benz of Riverside
This acceleration thing is $6.5k should I get rid of it or keep it I don’t is it smart to pay the $$$ I don’t have a problem paying it if it’s not going to give me major problems in the future provided I pay regular maintenance because 6500 is better than buying another car
I notice from all of my back issues of consumer reports used car guides that the BMWs only show decent reliability for the first 3 or 4 years then their grades go down rather dramatically.
That’s probably due to maintance , if they are on lease u have to maintain it to keep the warranty , once the warranty runs out people stop spending money on them . But they are reliable , trust me , I use mine as a mini cab , and Toyota use a bmw engine so it can’t be that bad
The claim is that BMW have substantially improved their quality control in manufacture in recent years. Well surely it's a bit too soon to say they have got it sorted? Also engine oil turned out to be an issue after they extended service intervals combined with turbos (that highly heat stress engine oil) becoming commonplace. That had many bad effects, like on cam chains for example and engine life in general. I think it is quite telling that in Germany, Castrol make a special (& premium) oil for BMW that Castrol do not make available elsewhere -it is a 100% Type IV PAO based oil. In Australia the head of BMW Service (for Australia) stated to me that longer service intervals are for only under "ideal" use conditions and he personally recommended the traditional change intervals (15k km max) with turbo engines. He specifically stated the 1 year service interval, meant people forget to lift the bonnet occasionally and relied entirely on the digital onscreen reminders & warnings. But while under warranty the service intervals are still annual, not 6 monthly - unless you go the extended warranty then you are obligated to bring it in six monthly, .....ahem, cough.
@footballcoreano ok, but in Australia normal working class person can only afford them after they have depreciated through the lease cycle. US price depreciation is heavier than in Australia and our new prices are double yours in affordability terms. An operating lease of a new 3 series in the USA might be USD $100/week, for the same car here it would be Aud$270+/week.
Katie That bmw engine was sent back to Germany several times because it didn’t meet Toyota’s high standards for reliability. Toyota had to test and re-test and demand bmw get it right on several occasions. U should watch the documentary that talks about it.
BMW and reliable should never go in the same sentence. It’s been proven coast to coast that those cars are garbage . Lexus IS the best luxury car in the world these Memphis guys loves those q70 cars by infinity and they use to be crazy about the bmw 7 series cars until so many start noticing they all were meeting up at the shop more than any thing and the s class proved to be to expensive to fix so yeah the Lexus for sure . But Honda and Toyota make the best cars hands down
Hi JB. I drive a 2009 A6 with the 3L TFSI engine. It uses about 5mm of oil on the dipstick between change intervals of 8,000kms. The oil used is the recommended German made Liqui Moly 5w-40.
@@zenden6564 Well I have a MINI S now so still figuring how much it consumes. Most Audi cars take up oil even when new. I can't imagine how much the R8 with a V10 consumes. LO

Sorry to say this, but I only agree with the lexus. Would like to see all of them after 15 years and 150k miles, bet you those germans will fall apart.
I believe they are getting better and the stats have shown this. Its to large and obscure cars or high performance machines that risk the reliability crown.
My 2009 BMW 3 series has 286,000 km and the engine is running like a clock. Smooth as silk and hugs the road like glue, only thing I've done is use good synthetic oil and premium gas. I've had couple of light bulbs burn but that's about it. It's a naturally aspirated 6 cylinder. Love the car drives amazing
393k miles not kilometers on a E-Class Mercedes. 240 K on a Audi A-6. German cars are often bought by second and third owners who buy them for their perception of success. They spend all their money trying to impress people but they don't have enough to pay for upkeep.
The only cars I can agree on this list is Lexus. I can’t jump on board with all other vehicles. Audi, Porsche, 5 series Beamer... definitely not reliable
footballcoreano Riiiiiiiiiiiiightttttttt 😂 Care to find us a study that shows Lexus is bottom barrel in reliability like you say? Every agencies’ reports are showing Lexus near the top. So what’s your excuse now? Come back with a study that says Lexus is bottom barrel in reliability and BMW is at the top.
When it comes to BMW, the three series is the only one you should ever consider actually buying. Lease the others. I have a 2013 328i sport 138k+ miles, no issues.
My gs350 with 105k and Mercedes 350clk with 80k gave me not a single problem but my previous BMW 540i had tons of issues but most fun to drive. I am keeping my gs350 for many more years to come.
I think the title should be " The 10 most reliable cars for 5 years (if you were lucky) or until your warranty expires" except for the Lexus of course. Well who knows how those new ones are going to turn out. I heard they're starting to manufacture them here in the States. We'll see
On UA-cam your reputation is key. But when you make a list of reliable luxury cars filled with BMWs-I know diehard BMW fans who switched to Lexus-your credibility should be seriously questioned.
The Germs main purpose are to be leased. Not really the cars to go into if u want reliability. As far as I’m concern nowadays they are scamming consumers for money. They will do much better stop. As a luxury brand I question there validity. Because premium should last and not be breaking down like that.
Please rate reliability when these cars are 5 years or more, 17,18,19 model cars are new & most people have not had and bad experience, after 50-60k miles cars show its true reliable nature.
This list may be relavent for the first 3:years or 50k miles... But in general all of these cars are huge money pits meeting 100k miles. So if you do have the income to keep replacing your luxury card every few years and taking a $40k depreciation bath each time then yes I agree you have a fairly enjoyable experience while paying $1600 for a routine brake job. The ONLY exception is Lexus... A truly objective list would be the entire lineup of Lexus vehicles while laughing at the rest of them.
totally agree J.B. I fell for consumer reports high reliability rating on the A6 about 10 yrs ago. It was a disaster. As you said, at the 3 or 4 yr mark the car was mechanically totaled. And i had everything done exactly on schedule or even more proactively. Name the major component and it was failing - tranny, check. steering rack , check. electrical, check. leaking and burning oil, check. Dumped it as fast as we could. Started by Toyota, Subaru, Honda, and never had a major issue since. I no longer have to worry about owning my cars out of warranty. Hell, i can buy them out of warranty!
I have a Mercedes cl63 amg an it's so fucking reliable please do not listen to these trolls saying Mercedes an Bmw are not reliable try are very good cars not as good as 80's an 90's but still solid
The best car that I would buy from this list is the Lexus GS350, which I drove a 2018 model and I loved it fast and responsive. Very good car and reliable.
The only thing reliable about BMW is it’ll always look good. BMW, Audi, will drain your bank account for repairs. If you want a car like that your really should have a good income to afford it.
I wouldn't drive a luxury vehicle even if I were wealthy, but if I did I would get an Audi. Best friend drives one - super nice. He's never had one problem. Plus he says he loves the way it handles in bad weather or in the mountains. He has had Infiniti and BMW's in the past.
So from the comments I have read, you all are saying this guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about. At least on some of these cars. “Some are endless money pits.” 😂
Darren777 they are and always will be and Lexus I don’t get how Benz or bmw are reliable I don’t get it I think any low end car would have better quality as soon you get so much technologically and comfort then you have issues any basic car can make a decent car it’s the technology that makes problems
I had 1992 Acura Legend coupe because of Sandy i lost the car. No issues other than headgaskets needed replacement at 282,000 miles. 2012 Acura TSX had for two on a lease already needed suspension work. Felt every road humps had the Michelin Pilot to reduce road noise. Didnt do a good job. Had understeering dangerous to drive. 2015 Audi A8 3.0 Supercharged one recall fuel rails replacement no charge. Rides smooth no understeering goes through snow without a problem handles in rain beautifully. No road noise. This Audi A8 2015 is a reliable car
Desi Bravo I bought a used 2006 TSX with 140,000 miles on it, ive had it for almost a year and the only real issue its had is at one point the battery kept draining due to a hidden bluetooth thing which was an easy fix. Do you think the older versions are more reliable
I've owed lexus vehicles for years with no issues. I just recently purchased a low mileage 2013 f30 for a good price. Time will tell of I made a good decision to buy a used 328i with 54000 miles.
My 2014 Mercedes E350 has 307,000 on it. I’m an Uber driver. I had to fix a things last year and the biggest one was the timing chain that stretched to much. Otherwise never had any problems, the car still runs good.
Mercedes, Audi and BMW stepped up their game, cause they realized that sales declined due reliability issues of their brand compared to Lexus and the slower depreciation. I curious about Audi, Mercedes, BMW electric cars compared to Tesla.
What is really intriguing is, after 30 years of people saying Japanese cars being more reliable and still the German manufacturers didn't buy one to disassemble and find out what is the magic. Another mystery: in Europe, German cars are everywhere, and Japanese cars are minority. Maybe they are not reliable only when driven by Americans.
I used to own 2012 Mercedes E550, my wife was driving. I have taken very good care of it. But after it hit 70,000 miles, my mechanic was driving it more than I did. And all mechanical failures, non of them electrical. Beside unpleasant look of worn out buttons and control switches, cracked leather on armrests..... I finally sold it at 85,000 miles when transmission's torque converter start to shudder ... what a relief it was!
keep the good content coming!! people in the comments need to listen what is being said about each make and model regarding which trims are the ones to look for reliability in!!!
The premise of the entire video is off. He seems to base reliability on Consumer Reports, which bases their findings on surveys of people who’ve usually owned their cars less than 2 to 4 years. Talk to those of us who keep and daily drive their cars well beyond 5 years. I agree with Lexus, but you’d be hard pressed to find someone who’s daily driven a BMW or Audi longer than 6 years that would call it reliable. If you do, they’ve meticulously maintained it and aren’t including expensive electrical and mechanical accessory issues in their assessment.
BMW's last a long time if you know what your doing when it comes to maintenance! I take very good care of my in-laws 2008 528xi, still looks brand new with 128k miles on it. Just replaced the original battery and installed a new Bosch starter motor. Take care of your things and don't beat on them and they will last.
Lexus and Mercedes have always been reliable. I’ve always had luck with mercedes regardless of generation. Even my old Audi A8 is solid. As far as bmw goes I don’t see that solid.
footballcoreano lol BMWs are catching fire left and right. They’ve been sued a couple of times over sundry faults in their cars, including catching fire 🔥 😂
He's right about Lexus, I have had two over the past 10 years, only changed the tires/oil and done routine maintenance, and you can get them serviced at at Toyota dealer...plus who wants a 50k BMW with vinyl seats?
My two cents I have an Infiniti plagued with HVAC issues that no one can solve. It just turns off when it wants and restarts at high volume. On forums it's common but the dealer has no idea what to do but charge me money.
I think too many people think "reliable" means "check engine light never comes on". The more luxurious the car, the tighter the tolerances, and the sooner the light comes on. It just comes on for "reduced turbo pressure" or "exhaust sensor questionable". Fords and Chevys don't have lights until "engine on fire"
"Ultimate Driving Machine": everyone knows that a nickname you give yourself, isn't cool. It's the opposite of cool. At least Mercedes is a little more honest: "The Best, or Nothing." See? They're telling you that when you buy a Benz, and you get nothing, don't be surprised. It's like if I gave my wife a box: "What's in the box?" "A million bucks, or nothing." *Opens box, and finds it empty.* "See? I wasn't lying." MB's slogan may as well be, "It's a potato...or not." Lexus? Theirs is even dumber (and I say that as a Lexus owner): "The Relentless Pursuit of Perfection." Seriously? They came right out and admitted it? Who the hell pursues something they already have? Ergo, they're just admitting imperfection, and buyers eat it up. I should change my motto to this: "The Relentless Pursuit of Friends." See how that means, "No friends"?
I'm shocked he thinks BMW's are the MOST reliable! This makes me wonder about his credibility!

I had a 2010 E 350 since day one. Just gave it to a good friend with 196548 miles on it. Still look new and run great. I replaced the E class with the 540I. hoping it will be the same as the E class.
When you recommend reliable, do you mean reliable inside the leasing plan, or reliable as in for long term keepers?
That's a good question. I like BMW'S but i do not believe right now you can drive a BMW right up to 200000 miles as easy as a Lexus. I still believe that up to 200000 miles it is still easier to achieve in an Acura than a German car. I could be wrong, but we have to see.
@@ajevthetruthisthetruthnotc8390 to me it's the vital "existential" question as I cannot ever hope to buy new in Australia. I appreciate that engine longevity got a lot harder with high performance turbo engines. But Kia's Stinger GT can manage a 7year warranty.

@@omb5722 lol. Oh yes, one of those, facts aren't real guys eh. I'm not saying BMW is or isn't reliable in one way or the other. Its varies from year to year, and model to model. Same can be said with Toyota. They've had their very realiable models certain years, and other suffered from some issue just the same.
jusbus777 it depends what the vehicle is used for! If u use them for chicken coops they will be damn reliable! But to ride them on the highway ... not so much

Jesse
EXACTLY! It’s a fake sense of confidence. Not designed to last. Best to stick with Lexus.

That bmw engine was sent back to Germany several times because it didn’t meet Toyota’s high standards for reliability. Toyota had to test and re-test and demand bmw get it right on several occasions. U should watch the documentary that talks about it.

Mercedes, BMW and Audi are good cars when they are new. Lexuses are good when they are new and old.
Mercedes e class is a taxi in Europe so it has to be super reliable
BMW and reliable should never go in the same sentence. It’s been proven coast to coast that those cars are garbage . Lexus IS the best luxury car in the world these Memphis guys loves those q70 cars by infinity and they use to be crazy about the bmw 7 series cars until so many start noticing they all were meeting up at the shop more than any thing and the s class proved to be to expensive to fix so yeah the Lexus for sure . not so much since Daimler sold off chrysler. the C and E class do well, but the S class does seem to have some issues

Sorry to say this, but I only agree with the lexus. Would like to see all of them after 15 years and 150k miles, bet you those germans will fall apart.
I believe they are getting better and the stats have shown this. Its to large and obscure cars or high performance machines that risk the reliability crown.

What an INSANELY STUPID comment.
They are getting better to compete.

footballcoreano You seem to have an unjustified bent against Japanese cars. Is the recent trade war with Korea ticking your nationalist sentiments? 😉
footballcoreano Riiiiiiiiiiiiightttttttt 😂 Care to find us a study that shows Lexus is bottom barrel in reliability like you say? Every agencies’ reports are showing Lexus near the top. So what’s your excuse now?

When it comes to BMW, the three series is the only one you should ever consider actually buying. Lease the others. I have a 2013 328i sport 138k+ miles, no issues.
I was looking at the same car. How many miles did it have when you bought it and how often do you do maintenance?
You can't call a car reliable if its less then 5 years old. Give them a few more years and they will have many problems.

The Germs main purpose are to be leased. Not really the cars to go into if u want reliability. As far as I’m concern nowadays they are scamming consumers for money. They will do much better stop. As a luxury brand I question there validity. Because premium should last and not be breaking down like that.
It is a bummer that they do not focus more on dependability
Please rate reliability when these cars are 5 years or more, 17,18,19 model cars are new & most people have not had and bad experience, after 50-60k miles cars show its true reliable nature.
True and time will tell if they match predicted reliability
This list may be relavent for the first 3:years or 50k miles... But in general all of these cars are huge money pits meeting 100k miles. So if you do have the income to keep replacing your luxury card every few years and taking a $40k depreciation bath each time then yes I agree you have a fairly enjoyable experience while paying $1600 for a routine brake job. The ONLY exception is Lexus... A truly objective list would be the entire lineup of Lexus vehicles while laughing at the rest of them.
be aware that some, as BMW and I think Benz are set so if something needs replacement, you must replace ALL of them. not cost effective.
totally agree J.B.
They are fun are and sound great too,
The only thing reliable about BMW is it’ll always look good. BMW, Audi, will drain your bank account for repairs. If you want a car like that your really should have a good income to afford it.

I have heard this before too and maybe there is something to it.
I used to own 2012 Mercedes E550, my wife was driving. I have taken very good care of it. But after it hit 70,000 miles, my mechanic was driving it more than I did. I finally sold it at 85,000 miles when transmission's torque converter start to shudder ... what a relief it was!

This guy is talking about reliability, in one-year-old cars.
Hardcorerado I agree with your entire comment
BMW's last a long time if you know what your doing when it comes to maintenance! I take very good care of my in-laws 2008 528xi, still looks brand new with 128k miles on it. Just replaced the original battery and installed a new Bosch starter motor. Take care of your things and don't beat on them and they will last.

Haha, that’s somewhat true, or Kia’s .
It's like if I gave my wife a box:
"What's in the box?"
"A million bucks, or nothing."
*Opens box, and finds it empty.*
"See? I wasn't lying."
MB's slogan may as well be, "It's a potato...or not."
Lexus? Theirs is even dumber (and I say that as a Lexus owner): "The Relentless Pursuit of Perfection." Seriously? They came right out and admitted it? Who the hell pursues something they already have? Ergo, they're just admitting imperfection, and buyers eat it up. I should change my motto to this:
"The Relentless Pursuit of Friends." See how that means, "No friends"?
