My car is 22 years old now and most of the things that are breaking now are simply due to age (rather than mileage)...and it's STILL cheaper than buying a new vehicle!
I mean, yeah, obviously lol. Cause at the end of the day the 22 year old car is worth only 3500.00. Even an engine replacement would be cheaper than spending 35k on a new car. Seems like a moot point.
At 221k miles I had to replace the door lock switches of my 2004 Ford Ranger. At $75 a pop just for a stinking switch, I wanted to swear. But I bit the bullet. Now it isn't bugging me so much because the Ranger is in great condition and has been paid for since 34,000 miles on the odometer. Drive it until the wheels fall off. Then jack it up and put new ones on. 😉

I’ve put off buying a car for multiple years now due to this channel. Still walking 3 miles to work everyday for several years now. Still got my hopes up that he’ll ONE DAY say it’s time to buy🤞🤞.
Good for you. I've walked the half hour to work and back for the last 3 years. No longer have to take blood pressure or cholesterol meds. So I got that going for me, which is nice.
I bought a new Ford Ranger in 2001 when I was 19. I drove that little truck until I was 40 and then sold it. I paid just over 11K for it new. That was the only vehicle I ever thought I got my money plus some out of. It was a simple four-cylinder, 5-speed manual, two-wheel drive with roll-down windows-just an uncomplicated piece of machinery that lasted over 20 years.
I’m still driving my 1998 Ford Ranger four-cylinder five speed my parents purchased for me new. I am now 41 years old and still driving it back-and-forth to work every day. No car payment just insurance. Until it will not go anymore I will keep driving it.
Way to be! Smart move there. Lets all get back to the basics. Lets rethink the whole thing. Lets keep rebuilding the old and keep it running. I for one would not mind an old car like a 1964 impala or something basic like that for instance. I do most of my own mechanics and can work on a car like that easy. Have we grown so " entitled", dependant on more and more 'Luxury and ease" and have a coveting mindset for more greedy things? Time to readjust , rethink, and go back to basics and morality thats wholesome and good for everyone. Lets examine ourselves, me included.
The old school Ford Rangers from the 90s were built like tanks and bullet proof.....I have a 96 ranger with the 4 cylinder the truck literally has 600,000 miles on it and still runs with original engine and transmission.....well serviced and maintained
I think there’s a lot of built up anger out there towards car manufacturers. People didn’t appreciate the way auto companies outright tried to bend customers over with these prices over the last few years. Personally I’d be happy if I never had to buy another vehicle again just to avoid giving another cent to a car company. My three pre Covid era vehicles are going to last me many, many more years and I am my own mechanic for the most part which is the best kind.
I was in a bad car accident and recovered. Now I am trying to find a good used car and it is a strugle to say the least. There are a lot of used car dealers in my area that will not allow you to get a pre-purchase idependent inspection. I found one that I like and then had that pre purchase inspection only to find out the underside was rusted out. That saved me and sold me on always getting an pre-purchase inspection before pulling the trigger.
Not ever financing a vehicle again. I’m stacking my Pennie’s and when I have cash I’ll go buy the used vehicle I want and it will be one that I can work on. I’m not financing anything the banks and kiss my entire ass. Pucker up buttercups!
Totally agree. We just picked up a used Subaru an hour ago. It was 35k cheaper than new ... and we paid cash. They all tried to talk us into putting the money down on a new one. I just said piss off.
You do the deal playing dumb, focused on sales price. Let them think they are going to make money on finance charges. You then pay off car note during grace period
@andresf491 When you see 0% APR, typically what happens is that the seller increases the purchase price enough to cover the interest that would have been collected.
I would have to say that CQA vehicles are a rational, reasonable choice. - low insurance - no massive depreciation loss - affordable But not $100,000+ vehicles. It's not clear how stubbornly wrong-headed these folks are, regarding pricing. $15,000 cars, $20,000 cars, fine. If you live in a city, you don't even need a car anyway. Most of us, in the past, have relied on: - mass transit - bicycle - electric or gas scooter $100,000 is a HOUSE DOWNPAYMENT. Not a car. Not for most people anyway. .
I'm replacing the manual transmission in my 2011 Ford Ranger for a third time. It's still cheaper than buying a newer truck right now. Thank you for being so honest!
@@99rollo99 Generally, those trucks are pretty reliable. My suspicion is whoever is doing the transmission work has no clue what they're doing. Or, the owner is absolutely abusing it.
Discounting a vehicle from 59K to 54K isn't even coming close to enticing a lot of us to buy a vehicle. Drop that 59K to 42K , with low interest rates.and they might generate some interest... pun intended.
As a guy who's bought and sold hundreds of cars along with leasing cars and helping Comercial companies who own fleets of cars this guy is telling you the best truth you can get. He's spot on.
I have been driving the same Ford E-250 Van for over 20 years now. It has 305,000 miles on it. Rebuilt the Transmission 10 years ago for $400. This is the Third Motor in it now. I bought the used motor off of Facebook Market place for $150. Had it installed for $900. Added $300 for new parts on it. Bought new tires for less than $ 400. It still runs good. I might end up having the motor rebuilt in the future and keep it going still. My yearly cost is so low. I bought the truck used for like $ 2,400 with 80,000 miles. I do most of work on it myself.
The local FORD Dealer's lot and any open space within 3 miles is covered in unsold brand new F-150's then, the Salesman will you that "Trucks don't have a model year. They're trucks."

I recently saw a local Ford dealership rented a lot for brand new inventory. I've never seen anything like it before. 200 Brand new vehicles that they couldn't fit on their lot! There is going to be some deep discounts coming up.
I still drive a 2002 and 2008 honda civic and a 2013 honda fit. I cant afford to buy a new or used car at this time. All three cars still run good to this day. Ive learned so much from your video. Thank you
I bought a car a few weeks ago off of eBay and got an absolute steal, in a no reserve auctuon. I paid $4,550+ delivery for a 2015 Infiniti QX70, while dealerships are chwrging $11-13k for the same vehicle and similar miles.
@mr.Lumpy3803 practicly nothing, my mechanic went over the vehicle. I will need to get new tires next season, and there will be some fixes in the future but nothing I can't afford with the money I saved purchasing elsewhere. I drive to my girlfriends house 4 hours away with no issue and I love this vehicle.
If it's not going to happen, I'm never buying again. Prices may trend higher over the years, but not this absurdly high. I'll drive junk from here out.
My 2010 4Runner can’t pass inspection due to rust under the vehicle. Has 205k miles. It’s cheaper for me to pay a ticket for an uninspected vehicle than buy a new car at the moment.
A lot of times, you're just buying someone else's problem. It is better to buy from a reputable dealer with lifetime powertrain warranty. Yea, you pay more. Tell ya what. I would rather spend an extra 8k for a lightly used car with 20k miles or less than buy a used car for 10k usd with 130k miles from somebody. Can almost be certain, you will easily catch up to that 8k mark in the course of the years.
@@offroadvehicleloverin my opinion, people who “buy someone else’s problem” are too lazy to do some proper homework. If you screen the seller properly and get to see a good record of service history, that eliminates 95% of worry that you’re getting a problem car. The 5% that remains is either bad luck/bad timing, or you’re simply just asking for trouble because you’re buying a mid-2000’s BMW with 180k miles lol
Greed and corruption is name of that game. Just the mindset of those paying that much ,tells me they lost all common sense and have herd mentality. Plus a serious moral deficit.
I started doing my own fixes for my car. Ever since my mechanic almost got me killed putting on a two wheel drive cv axel on a 4by4. Dude still charged me. Even though it was his error
I know, right??! Insane! I’d been driving my ‘02 Honda Civic LX for 18 years and desperately needed a new car since it was on its last legs. I was set on buying another Civic and thought about waiting a bit longer to see if prices would come down a bit. After doing some research, I decided they probably wouldn’t. At least, not enough to justify waiting any longer. Honda and Toyota had the lowest inventory and tightest days’ supply of all brands. AND they had the highest demand. So I bought a brand new ’23 Civic in January 2023. Nearly two years later and the price hasn’t come down at all! 😳 At least the price didn’t drop like a rock AFTER I bought! And yes, vehicle prices have fundamentally changed since before the pandemic. If you need a new vehicle, just buy it. Shop without expecting any significant price drops or “return to normal.” This IS our new normal. Good luck!
The other problem besides the prices is the reliability on these new cars replacing engines after 6 months to a year or replacing engines at 60-70 k is ridiculous
My Toyota dealers wanted $791 plus taxes & shop supply’s to change the spark plugs on a 60k service for my Toyota Highlander V6. Toyota Engineering is so wonderful. I should have purchased a RAV4 4Cyl. I could have replaced them myself.

The best time to buy any car, new or used is the last day the dealer is open before Christmas. I've done it many times. For example, in '84 at a GM dealer I bought a 2-year-old Dodge U.S. conversion van, loaded & like new. At the time the Dodge dealer had the same but new less running boards & crosswire mag wheels for over $23K. I bought the '82 for a little under $9K & to seal the deal, they gave me a GMAC 2 year/24K warranty. I was the only customer in the dealership. In '09 just before Christmas bought a used '09 Impala loaded with 12K miles for under $14K. MSRP new was over $27K. It boils down to how bad do they want to sell it to how bad do I want to buy it?
The higher ups are telling engineers to design the car in such a way that if you need to repair one part, you need to remove 50 parts just to access it. Also less sturdy parts and materials.
It's especially bad for EVs, specifically Teslas. Some insurance companies won't even cover Teslas because parts are extremely difficult to get. When you do get them, they're extremely expensive.
Don't justify that car prices would've still been higher today even without inflation. We all know that already, the complaint is that it's a lot higher than it should be if no craziness would've happened. Thats it.
Just sold a 2003 Ford Ranger with 150k miles for $8k then turned around and bought a 2012 Acura TL with 123k miles for $8.5k. I feel like that was a pretty good deal.
I don’t picture the prices going down. If they do, most likely 5% reduction I. Prices at best. I go on CarGurus all the e time and I don’t see much of a drop in the northeast.
I've been in the market for a Truck for the past five months. I was shocked to see what they were asking for these used trucks. However, over the past three months, prices have steadily been dropping on used vehicles by 3k to 4k-yes, on CarGurus, plus others. Finally, this week I found an F250 in a price range I was willing to spend!
Dealerships still charge MSRP for cars that are 9 years old that are under 5k miles. I tried to haggle for a 2015 lancer ralliart with 800 miles. They want 33k 😂
There are so many trucks on my local chevy dealer's lot. I have lived here all my life and have never seen that many trucks. It looks like the staging lot for a assembly plant!
I just spent almost 6K restoring my 2011 Ford Escape. It will easily last another 10-12 years. I love it and it was worth it. If I had purchased another car, it would have cost a lot more than that and also needed work.
I bought my kid an 09 Fusion with 3.0L and 90k miles and spent a couple grand on new brakes and AC lines and plugs and valve covers and belts and fluids. No rust and pretty mint interior and bought weather tech mats and aftermarket audio. So a nice reliable mildly sporty with two tone red n black seats. Grand total? About $12k including the extra set of rims and snow tires bought new right after the car since we’re in MN. I bought it for junior year of HS and should easily go thru college. This is the way 😎
The friendly mechanic is the one that smiles at you as he's screwing you over. As he hands you that inflated car repair bill that includes shop supplies, he smiles and winks at you.
ROFLMAO I was a friendly and skilled technician I did charge "shop supplies"(they are not free) and did the dirty, dangerous work very few with my skill set (computer tech, mechanic, etc.) and intelligence would do. People did not appreciate me so I moved on I now get paid 2x what earned(net) then (adjusted for inflation) work in clean comfortable conditions and am appreciated(computer network and systems specialist) . I need to know far less to do this cushy job AND I do not need a shop full of large tools. No, I did not "go to school" for either job BUT I do have certifications in both.
8:05 - Works for me. I'm 71. I have a finite number of new rides left in me and I'll not waste my money on overpriced lot rot. I'm about a hair from completely abandoning my search and just keeping what I have running... Return of the hooptie!!!
Brandon a quick word about rates. Lower rates don’t matter unless the 10 treasury rates also go down, since those are what folks use to set the benchmark for things like home and auto loans. Ever since the Fed has lowered rates, the 10 year has only gone up and so have interest rates. The Fed can lower all they want, but the market is calling their spending out.
Appreciate your honest advice. Watching your vids for around 2 years. You've been adamantly saying wait. I purchased a used vehicle on December 30th 2023. Car prices will continue to increase.
In Florida the used prices are still insane. You see cars with 200k plus mileage still getting $7-10K. I used to pickup cars for $500 and part them out, those days are gone.
Back in Feb my vehicle was in a total loss accident by a illegal driver . Insurance company paid most of the loan but I was stuck paying off the vehicle remain loan. Just paid I off after 8 months with no vehicle.. I'm just getting to a point to find a used vehicle which I plan to place a extended warranty on the vehicle. Like you said things happen. My biggest issue I can't just go buy a car for cash. I'm on SSI. Which dealerships don't like.
I got hella lucky, I just picked up a 1994 Jeep grand Cherokee with a new lift and new rims and tires and brand new crate engine and transmission 4WD for $500. The guy’s son was gonna junk it and they don’t need money so they just were gonna get rid of it. Runs and drives and it’s a limited trim with leather interior and cool as heck old technology. It was an insanely rare and awesome find! I waited 3 years to find this car
The one sensible piece of advice my mother gave me was: "if you can't pay for it in cash, you can't afford it". I have made an exception for house purchase, but other than that I have followed that maxim. If I want something, i will put away my pennies until I can buy it - earning a bit of interest, rather than paying it.
Wages always lag behind inflation... rates won't go down fast. Look up stagflation and what we are facing for the car market....... disposable income was paycheck to paycheck before the pandemic... people will not adjust like you think. Life as we knew it is drastically changing (by design...)
Yeah but isn’t that about what they went up from ‘21 to ‘24? So we are just really starting to come back into the realm of ‘reality’ vs getting an actual deal. That’s kind of how it feels to me anyways.
I have went to buy a car 3 times this year and just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger none kf these cars seem reliable anymore i gave a 2020 pilot and it has had alot of issues just cant trust the reliability anymore especially with the higher prices
I don't think car prices will drop, the reason is with the inflation, its raising the commodity prices. We got the BRICS countries going to announce their own money, it will mean more inflation for America as they start dumping the dollar, thus you will pay more for cars long term.
I just said something smiliar I this post about prison is not going to return to pre-pandemic prices. I've been following the whole BRICS thing it is mostly related to agricultural commodities than anything else but it certainly can apply to other things like automobiles as well which defects will be able to potentially put a dent in the USA global financial pocket. One for sure, a certain former US President should have never started an unprovoked tariff war with China and caused USA farmers to lose business to Brazil and Argentina fir which both of those are part of BRICS.
There will be less supply of used vehicles real people want or need. Mainly because of EV's and outrageously priced trucks. I don't want either of them used.
I bought a 2013 F150 in 2023 It was $18,000 (which I think was too much) and I still owe $6,500 (which I have set aside in an account that automatically pays $500/month) This is the only vehicle I've ever bought that I didn't pay cash for to own outright. I'd very much prefer to spend $5K/year on a new beater!
I agree with most of your thoughts in this video. The part that I can't get behind is the section where to talk about market trend and how "prices always just naturally go up." While that is true...in the case of the last 2-3 years, THEY WENT UP 40% - 60%. THAT'S NOT SUSTAINABLE. The car market will crash. The dealers still haven't figured out the simple truth yet. Folks who bought cars in 2021 to 2023 just weren't very bright. There are a huge majority of folks who didn't buy then and aren't going to buy now, until the dealers and manufacturers concede the shenanigans and come back to reality. The honey pot is empty my boys. Let's reel it back in now and act like you have some sense.
Does that mean once the dealers or manufacturers realize no one is gonna continue to buy these expensive cars in the future they’re gonna lower the price a lot by the end of next year?
I have 2012 and 2018 Camrys and I guess I'll just stick with them until prices drop. I would like a new one but prices aren't coming down enough. I'm just looking for MSRP and right now there are still add-ons but they are coming down too. I may also consider something like a 2019 Avalon. I'm a bit unsure about turbos and hybrids.
I bought 2021 in 2021 Tiguan on sale for total of 36K at 2.8% and that felt bit expensive. My payment is 540$ not bad compared to what’s been happening.
The prices went up because stupid people paid ridiculous prices for cars and trucks, got the ball rolling for increasing prices,if you’re dumb enough to pay these prices let the automakers see how much they can get out of you.
In 2018 i bout an 08 F350 diesel dually with 42000 miles for 16500. I have had no maintenance issues and now have 97000 miles. I went to the dealer to upgrage to a smaller diesel truck. I.couldnt believe they offered me 12000 for my truck, but everything on the lot that was a 2500, 3500 series truck was just priced way out of my budget! Used and new. Ill just keep my low milage trouble free truck.

My 16 years owned car finally crapped the bed and I needed to buy another car. 😢 Thankfully I missed the worst of it. The trick is to buy three or four different class $3,000 vehicles. Keep your eyes open for a well-aging car, stay brand agnostic. I couldn't imagine sitting in a penalty nox Civic for 20 years straight. Sure save money - I'd love to have one in the wolf pack. Sometimes you just want to roll in the panther platform, but you still need something for the dump. Cheap truck fun.

I build in regular and cheap repairs to my old cars monthly, they are "beaters" but they keep running beautifully, and its not a headache for my mechanic because the work is not overwhelming.
Not to long ago the dealers were selling over MSRP. Markets are cyclical. Prices are probably at their best now, take advantage if you’re in the market.

This was 2 years ago and it runs perfect. Just keep on maintenance. Buy your own tools, cheap harbor freight tools work fine for 90% of jobs. And it's cheaper than taking it to the mechanic

Not ever financing a vehicle again. I’m stacking my Pennie’s and when I have cash I’ll go buy the used vehicle I want and it will be one that I can work on. I’m not financing anything the banks and kiss my entire ass. Pucker up buttercups!
I've got $60k saved and counting. Probably get a used minivan in the next year. I'm thinking somewhere in the $25k range.
Totally agree. We just picked up a used Subaru an hour ago. It was 35k cheaper than new ... and we paid cash. They all tried to talk us into putting the money down on a new one. I just said piss off.
My rule is never finance unless it's 0 percent APR
You do the deal playing dumb, focused on sales price. Let them think they are going to make money on finance charges. You then pay off car note during grace period
@andresf491 When you see 0% APR, typically what happens is that the seller increases the purchase price enough to cover the interest that would have been collected.

My 2010 4Runner can’t pass inspection due to rust under the vehicle. Has 205k miles. It’s cheaper for me to pay a ticket for an uninspected vehicle than buy a new car at the moment.
Save your money and buy from an individual you will get more car for less money and you get to stick it to the big dealers.
True but it's riskier to buy
At least the price didn’t drop like a rock AFTER I bought! And yes, vehicle prices have fundamentally changed since before the pandemic.

Car insurance has gone up a lot cause of the cost of repairs.
As well as accidents and vehicles being totalled easily.
@@crlaw75that's for sure.
Finally, this week I found an F250 in a price range I was willing to spend!

Interest rates are insanely high even for used vehicles and the dollar value is super low. I'm trying to keep my car running as long as possible

I just said something smiliar I this post about prison is not going to return to pre-pandemic prices.

This was 2 years ago and it runs perfect. Just keep on maintenance. Buy your own tools, cheap harbor freight tools work fine for 90% of jobs. And it's cheaper than taking it to the mechanic
Next time im buying a used car, I am going to contact you. you seem to be a fair person. Thanks for the info, sir.
I just paid $1200 for a maintenance check for my 10 year old Outback.
Everything was ok but they replaced fluids , spark plugs , serviced brakes and made some minor adjustments.
It’s worth paying that every 3 years and not having to pay that to fix stuff.
