So I bought the FXT DVR and tested it out on my buddy's DVX-100 before handing it off to him to use. My audio came out okay? Not perfect but definitely a LOT better than this haha. I used an iPhone, and played with the settings a much as possible on the DVR app
Id like to see a livestream with this, just for checking audio quality. Pretty sure something can be done to prevent that back noise, however, thanks , amazing content.
I can test the audio a bit more, that skatepark clip was peaking a bit but the audio bitrate is extremely low compared to the powerplay so I don't have much hope for it producing anything usable. Weirdly the video bitrate is higher on the FXT but I guess that's just poor compression
I've been using an atomos assassin for years with the ol' XL-1 when we need it. That assassin's been a workhorse, but the price jumps a bit from these recorders. Still, the quality is incredible. The main point is finding a decent s-video to hdmi convertor and that was the real hunt. When looking check highlights. The bad ones make hard lines around highlights.
@@jameswelshmusic A usb hub does the work. It's as portable as any serious camera from the era. That is, heavy and a bit cumbersome to move around, but when it's on your shoulder, it feels good.
@@dpc4548 Do you have a separate battery to power the hub or does the assassin have power out? That’s the part I’m struggling with, looked at mobile phone charging banks for the hdmi converter but wasn’t sure if they’d have enough power. Wanting to do this with an atamos ninja. I have a cage that fits my TRV900, DVX100 etc so it could be a perfect setup.
@@jameswelshmusic usb power bank, not hub. Any cheap one should be fine as you only need 5v. Edit: I toyed with a v-lock with usb out, which works well, but the cost is a bit stupid for such an endeavour if you don't already have one.
@@dpc4548 I’m pricing it up with mini v mount and I actually think for around the same price as a focus enhancements / other now obsolete device, you could have a modest atamos setup like this that you could also use with mirrorless etc. I think it’s the way to go.
is there a chance i could purchase one of your powerplays been looking everywhere for a good tapeless solution but none seem to be as good as the powerplay as well as affordable
man that sucks i was just about to buy my gl2 this weekend, You think theyll come back in stock or do we just have to wait until something else comes thats better?
I hope you find something thats close to the original firewire sometime since i still use my canon xm2 with the fluorite lens and still have plenty of tapes but the phaff with using firewire is a pain and trying to find a firestore or similar at a price that isnt stupid is impossible - hope you find it since i will be eagerly watching - tootles !!!!
i hope someone could modify/program a arduino or something to recognize and record from firewire, it could be a repeatable and cost efficient way to convert old mini dv to digital/reuse old mini dv cameras for years to come
im so confused, i watched all your powerplay videos and decided to buy the fxt dvr as an alternative to see if it works, i never got any video to show up on my phone and sent the item back. im also using a gl2, how did u get urs to work??
I didn't do anything weird, the cable situation is exactly the same as the powerplay so either 2/3s pushed in or custom cable. Then just did what the instructions say
You should try using the HM-DVR-S next like what arttheboy did in this video ua-cam.com/video/p0WWciIRmA8/v-deo.html i would love to see what this looks like compared to your setup. And my set up is a clearclick converter velcrod to the side of my cam with a portable charger velcrod to the bottom and it works beautifully
I was looking at this wondering if it would be an immersion Rc alternative: DIGITNOW! HD Video Capture Box USB 2.0 Video to Digital Converter Anyone tried it?
hmm, i wish there was something that had better quality... that power play looks so good
Fr bruh so hard to get one
It seems like a lot of these FPV Drone recorders use the same kind of processing as some cheap dashcams!
Yeah probably the same chips I reckon
