  • In this latest update I wanted to talk a little bit about edging and also the Black and Decker Edgehog edger that I use for my lawn. In my opinion, edging is one of best ways to make your lawn look a notch above the rest.

    Thanks Ryan, your video is exactly what I’ve been looking for to help guide me and get me thru my first time edging, trimming, mowing, etc. You made it look simple enough and I’m sure I’ll do well for a first timer. I will be able to teach my young son to do the same. It’ll be something mom and son can do together. Thanks again.

    Excellent how-to explanation, very much enjoyed your video. Two things making your video outstanding, 1: music is very nice, 2: when you talked there was not music. In many videos during the time they are speaking they also play music; often the same volume as the presenter. For those of us with hearing difficulties we find it a challenge understanding the presenter. Sir, I tip my hat to you, and your video; thank you for sharing.

    I LOVE that EdgeHog! Those things are awesome, just as good as the gas ones, in my opinion. I switched over to a Stihl KM-90R with the edger attachment when I grew my lawn business, but that electric one is honestly just as good.

    I grew up in a neighborhood where no one ever edged. The grass (mostly weeds) hung over on the sidewalk and you never saw the edge of the sidewalk. Many years later I rented out the house I grew up in. I bought a used B&D Edge Hog and did the first edging ever. It wouldn't work at first and required me to use a flat-edged shovel to chop the overgrowth off. After that, edging was very easy for the Edge Hog. It looked so good, the neighbors took notice and within a few weeks they all started edging too. What a visual difference !

      I didn't really see anyone who edged a yard where I was from either so it has made a big difference in the overall appearance.

    Just bought the same product from Black & Decker. Turned to your UA-cam Channel to figure out how to use it! Thanks for taking the time to post this, since you're quite the pro! Also, thanks for the tip on waiting until the grass dries! Raining in Toronto!!!!!! Now onto the blade replacement video, you mentioned as part of your post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Picked this up based on your recommendation. It is really easy to get a clean edge. I tried to do it with the string trimmer and it was really tough to do cleanly. I will still use a string trimmer for trimming weeds and grass near fencing or trees. But this is perfect and affordable. The only complaint if any is that the Black and Decker is pretty light sometimes i lean into it a bit around curved sidewalks.

    Nice job. I use the same edger probably twice a year. The other times I keep it looking good by just turning my straight stick weed wacker upside down and it works great.

    Thanks for explaining the little piece that works like a guide at 3:10. I bought one of these at a rummage sale for $5. The blade was shot so I replaced it but I was puzzled what the other piece by the blade was for. I had a few unpleasant moment when the blade hit the sidewalk, scared the crap out of me but thanks to your professional video I'm developing my edging skills and hope to become competent some day.

      It's wild to think that people in Australia,... if I could see through the earth, you'd be doing your mowing and trimming and edging upside down! (Or at least at a very steep angle somewhat underneath us, here in the USA).
      Of course, come to think of it, WE in the US (including me in Texas) would be "down under!"
      For instance, when I mowed my lawn today, if the earth were glass and my voiceover client in Sydney Australia could see me mowing my grass here in Garland Texas, I would be down under THEM!!!

      Blades are now $11.00 for 7.5” X 2”. Just got an edger on marketplace for $20. The old blade was 2” short. Never changed from new I guess.
      I don’t weed wack the edges. I cut my yard at 3” and Wacker cuts too much off and that’s why I wanted a edger. New blades on mower did great.

    You have an enviable lawn to be sure. I have a couple corded tools as well and I think you may want to get a larger gauge cord. That curling can be the result of the wires overheating from too small of a gauge for the length and electrical draw.

    I fully realize this video has aged a couple years, but I was using the same model successfully for the past 5 or 6 years. I recently, however, invested in a few Greenworks Pro tools that utilize the 60v Max battery system. Their 60v edger surprised me by doing as well as or maybe even better than the B&D model. I have about 160’ of curb to edge as well as about 60’ up one side of the driveway and 50’ down the other side. A single 2.0 amp hour battery can easily edge all that length on a single charge. No more dragging cords around. Thanks for the channel - really enjoy seeing your techniques as well as the new products from time to time.

    I have that same edger and rarely use it actually. I didn't realize how well it would be to just edge the lawn, as opposed to edging garden beds. I'll have to give another try. I do hate the extension cord need though. I use a battery operated trimmer/edger now (also black and decker) and I have really gotten spoiled with battery operated - makes it so much easier, especially over electric.

    With a corded machine, always use a 12/3 cord for a 100-foot range. Start at a place nearer to where you plug in and then work your way out and away so you don't have to trip over the cord.

    We purchased the LE750 Edger and Trencher. So far I'm not really happy with it. I wish my old edger had not broke. LE750 does not seem to follow the concrete edge. I have it on the correct guide, and I end up holding our left hand down farther on the pole to put pressure on it to try and get it to cut straight. The top T handle does not appear to line up straight with the handle either. I've used it twice and still not sure it is a keeper. I either end up with a ton of sparks from hitting the concrete or a 2" gap cut off from the concrete.

    Love the video! I was able to see how the base flipped while cutting and that helped me a lot since I’m a girl and was afraid that odd looking bade was gonna be like a weird bump/ hit on the grass and go al over the place, but as I can see. It doesn’t work like that. It’s actually very smooth moving . My bigger question is, why is hit cord curled up like that? I bought a $78 cord for my trimmer and my husband used it one time, brought it in and it was all curled like yours and I accused him of over heating it or idk, but it’s all curled and I’ve been afraid to use my too expensive cord now. Does the curling destroy the cord and make it a risk for overload on outlet or shocking me?

    The edge along one of our walks is very high should we rent a walk behind and bevel it?

    I saw in one of your videos the battery Milwaukee edger. Do you mind doing a video about your Milwaukee platform tools and what they offer for lawn and garden care? As a contractor I use Milwaukee tools daily and would love to learn more about their garden tools!

      I am sure it is great! I just tried the DeWalt battery one and was very satisfied. The big name ones are pretty much the same.

      @@robalan57 since I posted that comment, I have purchased the milwaukee chainsaw, line trimmer, edger, hedge trimmer, leaf blower and they are all amazing!! I use the 8.0aH battery and the run time is great and the power is more then enough for residential yard care!! Highly recommend them over gas which is what I’ve always had!

    Why do you trim before you mow? Does the mowing (after edging) not give you that sharp 90 degree angle you're looking for?

      I mainly edge after the mowing because it seems to give it the stand up look a little bit better.

    Ryan, you need to do a video of the organisation of your garage

    I went with a corded black and decker and it's been fine. I got tired of buying gas powered edgers that were too expensive, suck, broke down frequently and required more maintenance. Yea it's a bit of a hassle dragging a cord around, but easier in the long run. I'm good with it.

      I am thinking a battery powered one would be really nice in the future. We'll see as this still works fine.

    Your grass looks great, what kinds of grass did you use? Or what kind of grass is good for TN?

    • @ryanknorrlawncare
      @ryanknorrlawncare  5 років тому

      I have a ryegrass/bluegrass mix. TN is in the transition zone for grasses so it might be best to do a search of your area and what grass types are best for that specific spot.

    What do you do when the grass has overgrown the sidewalk by about 5 inches? We have this edger and the wheels don’t go over the grass so well.

    Noob question here--should you edge before you mow, or vice versa, or does it matter?

  • @wyattjones5402
    @wyattjones5402 6 років тому

    Not sure if that edger is still made the same, my dad bought one probably 15 years ago and it still worked when I got rid of it about a year ago. It should run forever.
