Thanks guys, great to see you enjoying the new DSL5! It's a killer little amp.
why in the hell would you not put an effects loop on the 5 watt or the 15 watt head! Very bad decision Marshall.
i just got one yesterday and i am so pleased with it. everything i want in an amp. thank you so much
There is an effects loop!
But the abscense of it on the 15w version was a really bad decision. Not doing a head version of the 40w dsl wasn't very good too haha
Cupla sanchezez
Love taking a trip back down memory lane watching these old chappers and the captain vids!!!☺
I have this amp. Its amazing sounding. I live in a small apartment so I run it primarily on the 1 watt setting. I run a crybaby mini>mxr smart gate>mxr gt-od>mxr phase 90 into the front end and a mxr micro flanger>mxr micro chorus>mxr carbon copy>accel classic reverbs into the loop. Any sound imaginable at my feet.
I always thought that these were toy town amps for beginners, until I tried one. Wow! Less than 20 seconds of playing one, I bought it. They are phenomenal. Anyone out there, try one, you'll be glad you did. I put my name to it!
the staches' make me very uncomfortable. however, great lil amp. i like the country style tolex thats available.
I have this Marshall amp and I can say it is has a very warm and versatile tone. The amp has no built in reverb but it has an effects loop so you can always add your pedals to the mix. And the 1 watt mode reduces the volume without degrading the tone which is ideal for home use. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to buy a tube amp.
Sweet amp and another awesome video. A big 'Thanks guys' from Oregon USA.
Sold. The blues rock tone on this sounds so much nicer than reviews for the ht5.
My main amp is an original UK-made JCM2000. Incredible amp, I love it. I owned a DSL40C and after replacing the stock speaker with a WGS Retro 30 loved it too. I've also owned and played two Blackstar HT5s, head and combo. Didn't really love them. They sounded programmed. I am looking to get one of these DSL5Cs. Will definitely swap the speaker for a higher quality 10". Marshall all the way!
needed to hear chappers guitar playing so badly!!!! love these vids so much
I think You guys have sold me on the DSL5 AND the Hall of Fame reverb pedal! Sounds great!
You have reviewed more expensive, rare and good looking amps but for its size that little thing sounded great!
Another great vid, cheers guys.
nice demo as always guys and nice job on the matching mustaches!
Wow. The Cap'n is channeling his inner Chappers playing that lead stuff. Nicely done!
Loving Captain's playing here. Very tasteful
The gainy tone with the Cap 10 is awesome.
First time I have seen you guys demo. You are truly the Clarkson and Hammond of guitars. Very watchable and a nice l'il amp too. Enjoyed that. Cheers G. P.S. don't go thumping anyone and getting sacked!
TheGramie I like that comparison
To be honest, the bible is more up to date than the Marshall website.
Some things are timeless
Haha . I like this
Man you guys' audio and video quality have improved a lot over the years.
Damn this amp sounds freakin great! I'll probably have to buy it now to go with my England made DSL50.
The Captain is extra funky today, I like it!
sounds killer!
Bought one a couple of weeks ago from Andertons (well before release date), my first all valve amp and I've still got a semi ;-)
Marshall u guys rock! Im saving some money to buy the dsl 40c. I can turn it up in the basemant just like they supposed to be played.....loud! Rock on!
seriously, lee got so much better over the last 1-2 years, really nice
Rob is an absolute demon, the captains blues is groovy doe
Sure it's gonna be a great video!!!
Damn.... sounds killer!
I just want to say I love the face blankets.
I was looking for a practice amp upgrade from my Mustang. This amp wasn't on my radar but the assistant said give it ago. it's awesome. I love the tone on this thing. I was close to getting the black Star 5r, but the tone on this is way more interesting. shame there's no reverb though. love this amp!
Tried one today and I'm mighty impressed. Doesn't sound boxy for its size.
Now I can't decide between this or the SL5.
Cheers Guys - its a cracking little amp, although sadly Santa will probably not be delivering any more of these before Xmas... boo hoo!! Never mind - at least you now have something to buy yourself for a Happy January present!
Sweet amp Lee! Too bad the demo was so short. Is there any chance you could use it for some more demonstrations of guitars and effects? I'd really appreciate that. Thanks!
Sounds great ... Might replace my 5 year old Roland Cube :P
9:24 is some serious guitar playing !
This will be great for isolating and recording.
Just ordered one of these. A few people have crammed 12" Vintage and Veteran 30's as well as greenbacks for a much more ballsy sound making an already good amp into an exceptional one.
6:45 Sweet tone by Captain Lee on the Chap10...The Thrill is Gone, babe...the thrill is gone away...every since I grew this mustache...my woman done pushed my sweet love away :)
I wish the names of the songs you guys play floated across the bottom. So many I want to learn!!!
Hey Rob, first of all - I love your videos, especially your blues jams with Captain! I have a request - could you please do a review of Laney Cub 12 R combo? It looks like a good candidate to compete in this small, all-valve, practice amps like this Marshall DSL5 or Blackstar HT-5. And it's much more affordable! Of course there are some reviews on YT, but I would like to see the one from you and to know your opinion on this particular amp. Happy Christmas!
I love hearing rob shred but i love hearing captain play the blues just as much
New Aldi Advert?
***** Haha what?
Great, that is exactly what i need in my living room :))
This is a great little amp that allows nice solid cleans at decent volumes, but will then allow you to really crank it out with fantastic overtones -- if you know how to use the amp settings in conjunction with pickup controls, you can do a lot. The deep switch is fantastic. Like most demo videos, this demo does not do the sound justice (plus there are added effects here) -- go check it out in a store. One negative -- no reverb. Will have to get separate reverb unit, likely with a slapback delay for versatility (e.g., country tunes) -- has an effects loop. Regardless, after playing since the mid-1960's (by the way, my Fender Strat and Mustang both turn 50-yrs-old in early-January), this is my favorite amp for everything.
Will it work good for AC/DC?
+EPSGplayer +EPSGplayer..........if you want true Angus and Malcolm tone but at bedroom/small venue volume the Marshall 2061x head or if you're looking for combo then the Marshall 1974x.....KEEP IN MIND that AC/DC doesn't require a lot of gain, they're mostly "clean" ----just LOUD. ....those two amps I listed above are the old fashioned "if you want gain, then turn up the volume" type of amps. Both in the $2,000 range.....or you can get a DSL series but you'll need to get a pedal like jhs angry charlie or wampler plexi-drive deluxe to get an AC/DC tone and good boost from a cheaper tube amp.
+John Miller Im not 2k for an amp. My limit is 700
is it good with effects? I like that overdrive, but what about some fuzz pedal?
That sounds a hell of alot better than the other dsl's
I loved the comment, (if it sounds this good with a player that good it's got to be fantastic), a little rude to the captain but I'm sure it wasn't meant that way.
Great review guys.
PS no elves this year?
Can't wait to hear the Orange CR60 review!!!!!!!!!!!!
Damn the Captain!!!
Picked one of these up for home use with my Les Paul. It sounds great! But yeah you got a have a reverb pedal.
James Hetfield called, he wants his facial hair back
I love that it has an FX loop! I would rather an amp had no reverb then no FX loop! An inexpensive reverb pedal is easy to ad to an amp an FX loop is not! Smart move on Marshals part! If I were looking for a small practice amp with that Marshall tone I would buy this amp!
I've been using a Hot Rod Deluxe for a couple of years and whatever amp I could borrow until I could find an older Brit JCM 2000, AS OF TOMORROW MY WAIT IS OVER!!! Best of both worlds now.... oh ya, and I just stumbled onto a FULL BRITISH STACK of the old PLEXI's last week!!!
Oeh! That sounds great for home use
Oh god lee that beard. Thanks for the info guys!
It's hard to do an amp justice with a youtube video
How come my shitty laptop speakers aren't making this amp sound like a Marshall Stack?
Cool Amp
If I were deciding between this and an SL-5, I'd probably take this because of the fx loop. You could always color the tone with pedals and make it your own!
Awsome little Marshall amp. Love mine!
MY GoD I was just watching an old 2010 episode and Rob must be at least 40kg larger!
Good on you!
I have this beast ^^ i also use BC Rich Stealth NT with Seymour Duncan Blackouts and for boost Boss SD-1 .
ANd this truely let You play any metal.
Yeah! I like! your mustache :D
Hi guys. Nice little amp. It is that a new 68 'Silverface' Fender reissue I spy behind the Captain?! If it is, when are you going to be reviewing?!
Oh baby that's one hell of an amp! Gosh I still use my JCM800 to jam at home. luckily the neighbours didn't complain yet... Nor did they on the other side of the street. This would actually be a great solution for people at home who want a Marshall with the authentic tube sound which is low on volume. Does the DSL5 compete with a drumkit?
Great review guys. BTW......what kind of Orange amp is that behind you?
haha I love you guys why did you had moustaches here ? it looks awesome :)
both tried this and ht5r and vox ac10c. i liked vox and dsl5c alot but this Marshall is versatile
+Ahmet Omer Ozgen now try out the vht ultra 6
Lee's playing is really good nowadays!
You remind me a bit of Arthur Lowe with that 'tache, Chappers mate.
nice!
hi there guys. I totally love your reviews. Can one get a useful clean tone out of this little box?
How would this go playing in a band setting with say another guitarist, un mic’d drums and a bass player? Would it be struggling to keep up?
awesome review as always guys :) one question: can you make a review on some solid state (from 5 to 30 W) amps ? thank you
5 watt SS amp? I think that's called a clock radio.
i had one a long time ago ... i can't remember what brand but it was a 2 channel one & had an 8 inch speaker & it was quite good for home use
Caps lookin' like a young Lemmy with that stache.
After 5 seconds you could already tell it has a great tone but the speaker sounds really small.
That's the ticket!
The new slash les paul is beast
Hey Rob, which one do you like the most : the dsl5 or the sl5 ? It's hard for sure.
In another vid, Rod says his preference is Blackstar HT-5 and HT-1.
Who gigs without putting a mic on the cab? For church gigs where even a Fender Champ on two is too loud, this will be perfect for me. Especially with the 1 watt option. And I LOVE that there's no reverb on this thing and that they put an effects loop on it. Number one on my list. Don't DC this one, Marshall!
Cool \m/
omg I'm dying lol. I stumbled on this while looking for a 5/1w marshall bedroom amp. Been watching these guys for the last couple of years on andertons channel. I had no idea Rob had dreads.
How to play like at 6:45? what kind of chords can i use to get that bluesy sound, and which scales are good for playing like that? Thank u for answers. BTW that Marshall sounds really good, especially with that Slash Vermillion LP.
Wow guys I actually prefer the Cap-10 over the Le Paul through this amp! Just a phenomenal guitar, Cap and Chap.
Ok. Finding this video in 2018. I hadn’t realized the two of you were making video content in 1978. Only explanation for those mustaches. Did you originally film in super 8 or 16mm?
Seems like a nice little amp.
No reverb kinda sucks.
It sounds little thin to me but great demo I'll have to check it out .....
this and a bunch of mini pedals on a mini pedal board would be perfect for that midget metal band.
And yes i would pay to see it
theacfman it's called spinal tap , the Stonehenge scene
Nice, but how many expensive pedals were on the floor out of shot?
The dude in the olive colored ladies top thinks he is auditioning for Ozzy. The guy on the right chills out and gives a great demo
Hey Captain, I want that Anderton's t-shirt. I can't find it on your site. How do I get one?
I have noticed that the Class 5 is discontinued. Is this a replacement? It is indeed very similar to the original Blackstar HT5, with the 10" speaker, 12BH7 power section and effects loop.
I own this amp and mine is 0.5 watt in low power mode, not 1. Doesn't matter realistically, just throwing it out there for accuracy's sake.
Ive got 1. Now i need more
Hey what do you think should i upgrade the speaker?
5w amp shootout? :)
I would have thought it would occur to you to play a single coil strat through the clean channel. One takes for granted that a Marshall will do crunch.
Just curious, why did Marshall put in an effects loop on this 5watt amp but not wire in an effect loop on the DSL15c 15watt amp???
My guess is that Marshall was just cutting corners with the DSL15. Also, the DSL5C came out later than the DSL15, they probably listened to all the negative feedback people were giving the about the 15-watter not having an FX loop.
Xavier Roberts I want to put a looper pedal in it.
@@NonApplicable1983 the ones ive seen do have fx loop. Am i missing something?
Idk if it's just youtube's sound quality but I can't always hear the differences in things like the deep switch, tone shift etc. I've been trying to decide between a micro terror and a blackstar HT-1, I can only find the blackstar in stores and the youtube quality just doesn't cut it.
ok, chappy and lee which would you choose this dsl 5c or the ht5c ?
nice rolex captain ;)
red and green guitars in the back for christmas?
I was always a bit of a hater on this amp, till today...i went to the local shop determined to buy the HT5R, and then just for the hell of it i tryed this one...result? I am back home now trying to convince myself to stick with the blackstar...but i dont think that will happen...in person the dsl5 sounds SOOO much better then any youtube videos...
+Pe Peroni Me too.. was sure to buy ht5, but this marshall sounds more real ou raw, idk, just pure marshall rock..
+danieltv123 it really sounds very good..i was impressed by how much bass it pumps out, considering it has "only" a 10 inch speaker...it pumps a LOT more bass then the HT5 imo..
Pe Peroni thanks for saying that, it was one of my worries.. even considered the 40c for more bass, but even 1w is a lot at home, and 5w is enough for my uses outside
I did the exactly the same am kept trying to like the ht5 cos of the positive reviews ... but the more I played it the more I hated it! As long as you can do basic amp and guitar tweaks like rolling off the tone and using eq properly this amp covers everything; a bit bright sounding with the open back speaker but bring it away from the wall and kick in the deep switch it's bassy as hell!
Joe Kelly totally true
The DSL5C does not have a reverb, but i've noticed a reverb.... is it plugged on the loop or directly in the main imput?
I love these guys. The are English which is HORRIBLE, but setting that aside they are absolutely fantastic!!
Is it because you're an american, and things that aren't are horrible?
Masterfighterx I was being goofy. I actually majored in English literature and love the country. Cheers!!!
Ah ok ;p
Captain owned those blues licks...Get-err done from Tampa FL, USA...
Just one question...What the heck is Quid?
Quid = pounds (£). So, 'Eighty quid', is £80. It's just a slang term.
"quid" is basically the same as when we say "bucks" as a slang for dollars (except quid is for British pounds, as Craig07L pointed out.)
Craig07L OK I see.. I was wondering what they meant. Thanks for clearing that up.
***** OK I see.. I was wondering what they meant. Thanks for clearing that up.
