"In general, any movement between fiction and reality, in either direction, is treated with an undertone of terror" This line from the Inside 3dwi website describes the main horror and unease of both 3DWI and Petscop perfectly. Tony's writing blurs the line between the real world and the world in the screen in both projects so effectively it's insane
the 3 chapters of this arg are in correlation to the 3 stages of that fake skin disease mentioned in the chat thread. not sure whether thats important to whats happening on the island but interesting nonetheless.
This is so wild, I uploaded my reading of this story on the same day that you uploaded yours. 😅 I’m happy to see more readings of this story!! I love it so much and I connect with it a ton. Just a small suggestion: the title is a bit inaccurate. It’s a short horror story with some unfiction elements, not an ARG.
tl;dr I yap about how this may not be a normal, straightforward, actually understandable story. afaik. It doesn’t seem to have a “straight” way of reading whatever story is here. I could try to “organize” the subjects, but beware my ethereal speaking…and I type A LOT. This is mostly told through the forums of some fan community website, ran by Pat Lawler, the main fanatic and admin. Fans of a “screensaver” called 3D Workers Island gather there to discuss it and their stories with this innocent-looking experience. Somewhere down the line, there was enough people who claimed to have “sightings” of 3DWI’s hidden undertones. Because Pat is vehemently against discussion of such topics, Inside 3DWI (dot) scr was formed. It’s the other half of the info monolith that holds tales on 3DWI that you shouldn’t be able to find on the main forums. Across this entire unfictional story, a few themes arise: Ignorance - be it the imagination of two siblings, ignorant of what happens inside of this neighbor’s home. Or the ignorance of those who don’t wander into the darker subjects, either not knowing of the topic, or being actively told or censored to not be shown the other site. Children - how kids on the internet are mentioned, how one recurring character is named “Goodkid,” how childhoods are referenced, how Amber and a supposed real child are significant… Abuse - with Amber being at the center. Pain beyond understanding - in two separately literal terms: some unknown suffering limited by our imagination, crumpled into little red balls or simply impossible functions, like soundless programs screaming, or a single user never seeing these dark undertones. Deterioration - first referenced by Goodkid’s “fake skin condition,” how eventually form is lost after some redness, comparable to what happens to Amber, or all of the Workers. And a blurring of what is fiction, and what is fact - In Petscop, it begins as a commentary channel. By its end, we can’t tell who is meant to be Paul, if what had happened represents the present, or in the past. What remained true was set themes, like that of familial distrust, overbearing elders… Here, we see the blurring of reality referenced with the very screen we’re looking through - a “window” looking into a past year, unable to stop it the longer we observe. How the other site notes a “transition into reality or fiction brings pain either way,” and how the last forum post this video reads acts like *_everything_* we’ve seen so far is fake. And Thomas seems genuinely confused. We can try and guess what the story is - just like those users are trying to do with 3D Workers Island. Maybe it’s a story of meaning - like it’s a metaphor. Or we didn’t catch all the details yet. Maybe the answer is closer to reality than we think. Like an Occam’s Razor. (Heck if I know.) I mean this when I say it, I tried my best to make this _somewhat_ more understandable. If Petscop was just as cohesive, then I should expect nothing less from this creation. _It’s so thought provoking…and weird!_ I’ve yet to check this out firsthand, see if there’s any other corner I can look at that isn’t well documented.

You’d think more forum people would be whining about how it uses more of the computer than a normal screensaver does
