Thanks so much. The history of these Psalm books is fascinating to me. Like many, I did not really understand some of the subtle differences between the Puritans and the Separatists.

Dear Adam. Greetings from Germany. I have the two psalters in my psalmbook collection as reprints. We sing the Genevan Psalms in our services, the same as in the Netherlands. Thank you for this video. Best wishes.

I’d really love to see a whole video on how you annotate poems. What questions you ask, how you analyze form, and things like that. That would be very interesting.

Adam, I recently discovered your channel. It's fantastic! One question re this lecture. The tune to Old 100th is commonly attributed to Louis Bourgeois (1551). Does your research support that?

Hi @barbarahull8261 ! Yes, this is Bourgeois's tune which was first published the 1551 Geneva Psalter.

@@closereadingpoetry You make mention of William Kethe's "tune" a couple of times (for ex at 16.01). Are we using the word 'tune' interchangeably with another word? Just want to clarify as I'm referencing this video in an SS class I'm doing on the Psalms. Again, phenomenal information in all your videos!

You mis-spoke "Puritans in Plymouth" shortly before 10:56.
The difference is important to me, so forgive me for pointing it out.

The Pilgrims were somewhat more loving.
There's an "L" in each of the 3 words:
      Pilgrim, Mayflower, Plymouth
      As the Beatles SONG says
      LOVE,LOVE,LOVE
      is all you need
      ❤❤❤

As always iam gathering main information about topics you mentioned briefly here it’s Ainsworth psalter was written by English separatist clergyman Henry Ainsworth by pilgrims in 1620 . It’s was published in Holland in 1620 . It’s parallel translation, including literal tending of psalms and accompanying metrical psalms . Story of psalm book begins in England , with band of separatists who desired ability to worship god in way they wanted to . This band would leave England , and Church of England, to find temporary residence in Holland before setting fail for new world . Psalm book served as larger purpose of colony to live within reformed church . It’s first book to be printed by settlers of Massachusetts bay printed in 1640 , this modest hymn is first book made in what would be United States . Creation led immigrats in American printing and literary foundation for burgeoning literary culture in new world . Honestly bible , Torah, psalms, quarn all are books of god . I love to read bible as well as quarn ( no one has seen god at any time if we love one another god abides in us and his love is perfect in us ) John ; 12 .

Psalms in English lack the depth of the original because the interpretative tradition was developed in Hebrew, with its custodians shaped by Rabbinic Judaism. Therefore, such a reading is extra-exegetical, lacking grounding in any meaningful context.

Thank you mr Adam for your wonderful cultural literary channel. Please don’t misunderstand me Iam Arabic musilm lady . We offer our apology to you . We really so sorry about last event during opening ceremony of Paris Olympic Games . We consider Mary mother of Jesus as lady of world women, no woman mentioned in Quran by name except her. Prophet Muhammad said Jesus Christ will come from heaven to earth before day of judgment as just ruler . We consider Jesus too prophet and spirit of god . Have several miracles mentioned in Quran such as raising dead , healing blind , leper , creating living bird , asked god to send down table from heaven , god answered him , talked to people when he was new born to defend his mother ,when they accused her of adultery. Musilm clergymen condemned scenes of Jesus . These scenes are offensive disrespecting. Jesus is great prophet, honorable person and high status of prophecy in reckless barbaric way that doesn’t respect feeling of believers of religions. Middle East council of churches have same situation .
