Absolutely…I was a swimmer and all 3 kids were taught early …then they went on to swim team! It’s a must learn skill. We have been introducing AJ to the water this summer. Even so, constant supervision is a must…. Love him :)
It was terrific seeing your western PA neighbors! Such incredible people, and so willing to help you & your family! Love their stories and passion for their families & friends!
Both of them obviously loved their ponds. They’d probably talk your ear off all day long about them. Great video and great advice. Always ask someone who has experience and has been where you plan to go.
Great video! I especially liked how you hung on every word of advice they generously shared. I’m sure a lot of that experience and expertise will come into play as you build your pond. Honestly, I didn’t realize how much goes into doing it the right way. Really looking forward to seeing what you do!
Thanks for making this series. If and when I get my land, if it's not already a waterfront property, I would definitely want to install a pond. This gave me a little more knowledge of how it's done from people who have had their ponds for a while and know about the maintenance issues, ect. Again, thank you!
Kids are much more aware of safety and how far to go than parents think. It will build his confidence to be able to make use of the pond and it will be a great addition to your land.
Adam, it’s nice that your looking into many options and design options. Your planning out so that your not rushing into something that you will regret. Most importantly your thinking the whole process out. At first I thought you were crazy. But I’m with you after watching your past videos. My in-laws had a tank on their ranch. The only negative thing was it was a magnet for water moccasins. I don’t like snakes. Secondly they had no water circulation, and it was stagnant, stinky pond of water full of green slimy water.
Great information right there! Of course, we don’t dig a lot of ponds like that out here in the desert of Arizona, but it’s interesting to see them in places more accommodating. Seems like a required right of passage in the new pond is to sink a piece of equipment in it! Also, that’s a great looking family you got there, all the way around!
Interesting series on your channel. Sounds like that Ol’ Jack was quite a character. He could give you tons of advice if still alive. Hope that the equipment and person coming to run it can get it done in 7 days. The pond will be a great addition and add value to your property. Best of luck to you and your lovely family.
Going to be awesome watching you and your crew build this. Hope you keep the camera rolling during construction! Hope to follow in your foot steps in the coming year or two
It well be interesting to see your pond build after these lessons. Like how deep should a pond be for fish in the winter. How will you air out the water and what plants will keep your ponds ecosystem healthy! Let us know! 🙂
Hi, new to channel, I subscribed after watching three episodes regarding ponds. I'm not going to put one in (no property) but I feel I could advise a friend if asked. Great job gathering the info and enjoyed all the others humorous stories about building a pond. All the ponds were just beautiful each one having unique features, you got some thinking and planning to do. Good luck ❤❤❤from Michigan
Really great content and very helpful as I too begin the design of a pond on the 45 acres we just bought in East Tennessee. I see my problem will be controlling runoff and debris, as I do not have the luxury of an open space free from hill or tree canopy. Thanks for sharing this.
There is a 3/4 acre pond i fish near me that’s full of fish and it’s crystal clear. Its rectangular and surrounded by cattails on all sides. It has hydrilla which filters the water. It’s 20’ deep in the middle.
Really looking forward to seeing the pond all come together and the final product. I'm guessing it'll be pretty amazing. Even better then owning an awesome pond is knowing you designed and built it yourself. (with help of course, but you know what I mean)
I like the steps in idea if you come across a big rock when making it put it on a shore and use it to jump from also think about a dry hydrants it may save you on homeowners insurance you have to call them it would sit by the driveway and the fire department would have access to all of the water in the pond if your house or barn needed it
It's a balance of keeping leaves out of the pond, but marginal planting (reeds and shrubs) soften the edges so much. The large pond is the most 'natural' looking. The three in Part 1 look very harsh just positioned in mown lawn. Maybe allowing the grass to grow as meadow would soften the landscaping. Just thoughts and I'm excited to see how your project goes. Your jealously from land constrained UK.
As far as mowing around the lake I've heard it's definitely not good to blow grass clippings in to the water as it will create some unwanted algae and it might be worth asking your lake friends (or biologist) their advice. Maybe just map out your whole lake perimeter and where you wanna have a good 10' wide or so tall grass shoreline. I think it'd help you with frogs too having some 'wild shore'. The windmill powered aerators were pretty cool and a cheap way to keep the lake healthy. Don't forget about adding a couple solar powered stadium lights up on tall log poles for the night hockey games! Keep up the good interesting content!👍💪🇺🇸
Thanks for the pond visits, Adam. The first one would be amazing to have in the yard. What kinds of fish do you plan to put in yours? I'll be uploading a video of stocking mine soon. -DRL
You and your family are beautiful, your wife is so cute and your Son,,, well what can I say but cute pie!!!!!. Yes I agree with others swimming lessons are a must he has to know how to get out if trouble. From gramma in Florida, God Bless.
Thanks … we are a swimming family…so he is already in the pool. All the kids were swimmers too! Adam placed 4th at states and swam competitively until basketball and volleyball took over. AJ will be trained as soon as we can. It is a family requirement! LOL!
A guy I used to work for had guys build him a pond. They used corrugated plastic pipe for a drain. The problem was that they built the dam over the pipes, then muskrats chewed the pipes and lowered the water lever by a good foot. I would run the pipe sideways at the top of the dam and weigh it down with concrete. I have seen ponds lowered with siphons to replace drains and whatnot.
I agree, teach the children to swim. For children put swim fins on them. It triples the benefit of leg kick and will give them confidence and then they understand how to swim. Then when you remove the fins they will swim, just not as fast. But they’ll still have that confidence
These ponds are amazing. The design blends into surrounding so well they appear as natural features placed by our creator himself. Would be a full time job to maintain and mow surrounding grass.
Don't worry about your son and any future children, they will grow up familiar with the dangers of water. My sons knew from the age of 2 that the sea is a dangerous place and had to be treated with respect.
Fish, flamingoes, ducklings or Black Swans, Bears, Hog/Boars, SabresTooth, whales & dolphins (?!?) I mean wildlife fit into them, seasonally, will be great.(simply with some racoons or squirrels or hedgehogs. Some cockatoo or parrot friends (not cats & dogs))
Damn I hate getting old I'm only 35 now but damn I know it's coming I look like I'm in really good shape but apparently I have fast heart beat I gotta take meds for that then degenerative disc disease and carpal tunnel so I'm fucked but even tho I was an athlete when I was younger I am stronger and in better shape now then I ever have been but I don't recover from shit near as quickly. I'm fixing to make a 2 acre pond that gonna be fun 🙄
hello... i greet you from B A Argentina. I LIKE YOUR VIDEOS.. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW. THE PONDS DAMS ,HAVE ANY PLASTIC MATERIAL OR IT IS NATURAL GROUND IN THE BOTTOM'?
Moving to a property with a pond with a child can be dangerous, a kid growing up with a pond builds a healthy respect, understanding and appreciation for the water. Muck like everything else on a country side property. Your son is dead on your mini me.
I bought a six acre place in the country last year. Has a 3/4 acre spring fed pond fully stocked with koi, bluegill and bass. Feeling grateful.
Nice dude
How do the bass and the koi get along?
Video please 🙏🏻
@@russb8775 Better than Republicans and Democrats I'm guessin'.
That 6 acre pond and property is a dream
Always good to hear old-timer's stories
You could teach that child to swim right now. The sooner he learns to swim the more comfortable you'll feel.
Absolutely…I was a swimmer and all 3 kids were taught early …then they went on to swim team! It’s a must learn skill. We have been introducing AJ to the water this summer. Even so, constant supervision is a must…. Love him :)
I learned to swim at that age - it wasn’t the burlap bag so much as all the cats…..
100%! So important.
Your son is adorable. His eyes are so beautiful - wow 😍 God has surely blessed your family!! Great videos! 🥰
It was terrific seeing your western PA neighbors! Such incredible people, and so willing to help you & your family! Love their stories and passion for their families & friends!
Mark's property is amazing. Wow!
Ospreys - so jealous. A rare bird making a comeback in the UK.
Great memories for the kids is a great idea!

Thank you Adam for the thorough leg work!
Beautiful family. God bless you guys and may you prosper more in life.
Swim lessons for the summer, skating lessons for the winter, and fishing lessons for supper.

Build the biggun , that's a nice pond. Blessings.
You certainly have me thinking about putting in my own pond.
Great family….good luck to you all!
That list of yours has got to be getting bigger day by day! As long as the weather stays good, you shouldn’t have any problems!
Enjoy your content very much keep up the good work. Have a great day.
Awwww...I am in LOVE in AJ... He is SO CUTE🥰
Adam great video I liked all the ponds you showed they was beautiful, your son is a cute little boy
Really nice pond!

Excellent comparison between the large and small, and both built by the same guy 👍

Adam, funny a Kubota Submarine! Lol we Built a 1 acre pond, in 1996 non of the 6 kids were interested in it after watching the cattle treat it😂🚜🪵👍🏼🇺🇸

Building a small (350sqft) Island would be nice for Camping!
Swimming💦 lessons...the younger the better.👍✌
ABSOLUTELY!!! ♥️ Marcus from Chesapeake VA.

The kid looks exactly 50% like the mom and 50% like the dad. Incredible. Has the dads face and has the moms hair color and skin color.
Dave was very lucky. We have had two drownings in our local lake when zero turn mowers slid into the water and pinned their operators.
Oh that’s tragic… so sad for the families. Good cautionary words of advice… thanks for mentioning this.

Could you tell that Dave *really* wanted you to jump in and pull the drain plug? I was hoping to see you jump in, Adam, and help him out. ;)
Build the live plant filter pond I've seen before 😊😊
AJ has the amazing eyes!
You and your family are beautiful, your wife is so cute and your Son,,, well what can I say but cute pie!!!!!.

Did he say Conneaut Lake? You guys are real close to where I grew up on the other side of the border. Used to go to Pymatuming and rent pontoons.
Omg, the last gentleman sounds like Roy D Mercer. 🤣

AJ IS getting big! I have 2 kids my son is 15 and daughter is 12, time goes so fast, you'll blink and Aj will be driving and looking at college
This kind of pond is what im talking about if you saw my post on pt 1
Swim lessons are a worthwhile investment...peace of mind for sure. Start now...my 4 year old is like Phelps..
You will have to watch your Baby. Get him to the YMCA and have them teach him to swim.
Do somebody knows what size of pond is enough for watersports like flyboarding, jetski and waterskiing for example?Thanx in advance.
Fish, flamingoes, ducklings or Black Swans, Bears, Hog/Boars, SabresTooth, whales & dolphins (?!?)

Agree with all similar comments, waterproof your baby now. He's old enough. Enjoyed the videos.
Teach him to swim just in case he goes get to the water…..Teach him to swim.
How come there’s no cabins or docks off the islands
Question I have is a fence mandatory for insurance to keep unwanted kids and animals out?
I think Mark wants you to get wet. Lol! Open the valve up for him on the bottom of his pond.
Spring-water ... did you ask about moonshine off camera?
Your son is looking around like Dad who are you talking to.
Lol
Are you going to the homesteading conference in front royal VA in October.
Half acre pond is just a hole in the ground has to be minimum 2 acres
Damn I hate getting old I'm only 35 now but damn I know it's coming I look like I'm in really good shape but apparently I have fast heart beat I gotta take meds for that then degenerative disc disease and carpal tunnel so I'm fucked but even tho I was an athlete when I was younger I am stronger and in better shape now then I ever have been but I don't recover from shit near as quickly. A chap on UA-cam who mends pond dams advocates no trees on the dam, as when they die the rotting roots weaken the dam.
Just a thought.... it might be good to talk to someone who has built hundreds of ponds and lakes.
Get a snow blower.
Duh!
Air your son is 1. All the 16 month old trash is concerning, lol.

If you’re. Cheapskate, you can just let it sit and the birds will stick it with fish for you after a couple years.
Lesson learned: don't drive your equipment into your pond.
Go big or go home
Those aquascape ponds with liners and really big bog filters are awesome better than this I think
