The green smoke and the spear head were both made from Kryptonite, Superman's weakness. Kryptonite was really the exploded remnants of Superman's home planet, Krypton.
One thing that many people still don't get is why the branded guys die in prision. It's not because Bruce want it (despite he maybe knows it and does't care at all), it's part of the Lex's plan. You can see how Lex's man go to prision and talk with the guy who kills the other with the bat brand. So, this is another thing Lex uses to show Batman like an evil guy to Superman. That is part of all those tricks he uses to face each other, like the letters he send to Bruce and Clark with those messages written in red, for example. Or Lex intercepting all the help/money Bruce send to the wheelchair guy to use him easily. Bruce is easy to enrage, because as he says, after 20 years fighting criminals with no result he is frustrated, specially when during that journey you lost an "adopted son". That suit you can see with the "gotham jokes on you" message is the suit Robin was using when Joker killed him. Inportant detail to understand the point where he is. This film has a dense and deep plot and storytelling. It's the best thing done in superhero movies narrative-wise, and the cinematography is TOP, but it's not for everyone's tastes. About Bruce's nightmares, you will understand better all that future and apocalyptic world he sees, watching Zack Snyder's Justice League. Nice reaction btw

Don't listen to people who say that batman only stopped trying to kill Superman because their moms have the same name. Batman didn't change his mind just because their moms had the same name. That just got his attention and broke him out of his irrational rage. What got Batman to change his mind was the fact that he realized Superman is just a man. Superman was about to die, and instead of begging for his own life, his last act was to beg for the life of another person. Not only that, but the other person was his very human mother. That humanized Superman in Batman's eyes. He realized that Superman isn't the uncaring, omnipotent, alien god that batman thought he was. He's just a guy with a mom, trying to do what's right. That is why Batman changed his mind.

@jackbaxter-williams8059 i think the execution for this movie was fine. My only real problem was with the actual fight between batman and superman. It just wouldn't have gone down like that. Superman's reflexes are just too fast for that. I think the real problem was that this movie tried to be more a little too subtle for "modern audiences". Movies these days have no subtlety. They just tell you what everybody is thinking and feeling at all times. This movie tried to leave it to the audience to figure out, and unfortunately most didn't. And i think it's because they didn't know they were supposed to.

It's never really explained in this movie or in Man of Steel that Superman's x-ray vision can't see through lead. That's why he couldn't see the bomb in the wheelchair because Lex had designed it so he couldn't see the inside of it.
I think, the problem is they made the movie thinking anyone and everyone already knew the lore of Superman. Yet, apparently, they think everyone gets amnesia whenever a new Batman film gets made, as they seem to love showing us the night Bruce's parents get killed over and over again.
This is my favorite super hero movie. It is very complex and you both understood more than I did on my first time watching. Batman is very angry and acts like a vigilante because Joker killed Robin and destroyed Wayne Manor.
Batman is branding pedophiles and human traffickers. He is behaving like Zorro, which was the film he and his parents had just seen before his parents were killed. Zorro is a masked vigilante who marks criminals with a "Z"
Then, when Kal is killed, they are now acting out Excalibur, which was in scene 1 "Excalibur Next Wednesday" (or something like that). King Arthur (Kal) is fighting the demon offspring of Morgana (Lex), created with blood and magic, Mordred. Doomsday. Bruce is Lancelot. The paladin knight who has lost his faith. He regains his faith and code after Kal's sacrifice. In Excalibur, Arthur is stabbed by the spear of Mordred, but he pulls himself onto the spear so he can slay Mordred with Excalibur. Arthur dies.

The whole time, Batman saw Superman as an existential threat, realizing he had more in common with humanity than he thought. To have a mom is more than just being here "to do good." It meant he learned to be a man of Earth.

Hello Ladies, A lot of people hated this movie, I liked and enjoyed watching this movie. The downside of this is they made Batman a lot more ruthless, and single minded. They did set this up for the next movie "Justice League" which is made up of the Meta-Humans from the file (Flash, Cyborg, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Batman, and "Superman"??) FYI in the DC comics, Batman did collect Kryptonite, just in case Superman went rouge, but he never hated him.

The Hulking monster is Doomsday for some reason that I no longer remember, he was perceived really negatively in this movie, and would had been a great villain for the future, he dies and returns stronger, immune to whatever killed him. The Batman shown here is pretty different from how he's usually depicted, though his costume is more comic accurate. Normally he never kills nor brands people, but I think this one does because of what happened to Robin (confirmed to be the first one, Dick Grayson), being killed by Joker. I think losing his first sidekick, different from the second one like the comics (Jason Todd), is supposed to imply a justification for a more brutal Batman. While Zack Snyder's movies are pretty damn badass and mature, they do deviate from the comicbook versions quite a bit, including their morality.

It's never really explained in this movie or in Man of Steel that Superman's x-ray vision can't see through lead. That's why he couldn't see the bomb in the wheelchair because Lex had designed it so he couldn't see the inside of it.
I think, the problem is they made the movie thinking anyone and everyone already knew the lore of Superman.
Yet, apparently, they think everyone gets amnesia whenever a new Batman film gets made, as they seem to love showing us the night Bruce's parents get killed over and over again.
This is my favorite super hero movie. It is very complex and you both understood more than I did on my first time watching.
Batman is very angry and acts like a vigilante because Joker killed Robin and destroyed Wayne Manor.

Bruce is Lancelot. The paladin knight who has lost his faith. He regains his faith and code after Kal's sacrifice.
In Excalibur, Arthur is stabbed by the spear of Mordred, but he pulls himself onto the spear so he can slay Mordred with Excalibur. Arthur dies.

It was meant to trigger Batman into thinking about his own trauma with his mom getting killed, stopping him momentarily, but memes were all about "Oh my god, your mom got the same name as mine!" Wasn't the case, but it was so heavily memed to imply that, I assumed people didn't really get it.
The whole time, Batman saw Superman as an existential threat, realizing he had more in common with humanity than he thought. To have a mom is more than just being here "to do good." It meant he learned to be a man of Earth.

The scene with Batman in the desert is a nightmare, of all the fears he have of Superman turning sides and becoming a menace to Earth and he looking a way to stop it, looking Batman as the villains is because of the anger and fear he has toward Superman after the attack. Is like there is a perception of Superman of being absolute power and how can change the world wether is for better or worse. There are also other easter eggs about the aliens and Flash that are important in the next movie but I wont spoil it for you

"The red capes are coming" is a reference to the American Revolution. The British wore red so they were called Red Coats.

During the American Revolutionary War, America fought for it's freedom from Britain to be it's own country pre-1776. When the British soldiers, who wore red coats, were invading towns and villages, Paul Revere rode on a horse to warn people of their invasion.
Lex implies that Superman, being an extraterrestrial alien, is an "invader of Earth," wearing a red cape instead of a red coat like the British.

Lex is one of Superman's biggest villains and critics, often being a power hungry rich asshole who wants power for himself, but Superman gets in the way. He was considered a redhead before he was bald. This movie just let him keep the hair... until the end. Jesse Eisenberg isn't the most popular choice for the role, as he's known to be a little too "nerdy," though Lex is smart.
I'll freely admit that I had my doubts about Ben Affleck playing Batman... but he did okay. and even better in The Justice League.

Hello Ladies, A lot of people hated this movie, I liked and enjoyed watching this movie. The downside of this is they made Batman a lot more ruthless, and single minded. They did set this up for the next movie "Justice League" which is made up of the Meta-Humans from the file (Flash, Cyborg, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Batman, and "Superman"??) FYI in the DC comics, Batman did collect Kryptonite, just in case Superman went rouge, but he never hated him.

to answer your question, about Batman. this version of Batman is a tired, angry, and veteran who has been fighting criminals for 20 years. losing his parents, Robin's death, and losing faith in people being good. I'm so happy you watched the Ultimate Edition. there's a 4K remastered of the Ultimate Edition with the IMAX scenes.

To explain the painting, in Judeo-Christian belief the devil or Lucifer was God’s favorite creation until God made man and gave them their own paradise. This angered lucifer enough to start a war in heaven. This led to him and all other instigators who fought with him to be cast out of paradise into what will be known as hell. The Hulking monster is Doomsday for some reason that I no longer remember, he was perceived really negatively in this movie, and would had been a great villain for the future, he dies and returns stronger, immune to whatever killed him. The Batman shown here is pretty different from how he's usually depicted, though his costume is more comic accurate. Normally he never kills nor brands people, but I think this one does because of what happened to Robin (confirmed to be the first one, Dick Grayson), being killed by Joker. I think losing his first sidekick, different from the second one like the comics (Jason Todd), is supposed to imply a justification for a more brutal Batman. While Zack Snyder's movies are pretty damn badass and mature, they do deviate from the comicbook versions quite a bit, including their morality.
