It wasn't political or tried to make women vs. men for no reason. I saw Charlie's Angels 2018 as the beginning of "female lead = misandry." Either the male characters are evil/villains, henchmen, traitors, creeps, or if they are good guys, simps, love interests, or the-cool-one-who-dies.
Being sculpted from clay and being brought to life by the goddess Hera was Wonder Woman's original origin in the comics. They changed it in the 80s of 90s. Wish they'd kept it.
It wasn't Hera, but Aphrodite who originally granted Diana life and her powers. In the Post Crisis reality, it was Aphrodite, Athena, Artemis, Demeter, Hestia and Hermes who did it (mirroring the gods who granted Capt. Marvel his powers, in context).
I like how defeating Ares didn't really solve anything. He may have manipulated the result, but he was not the one doing it. It was us. Him leaving after the fact doesn't change anything.
Zeus is Diana's father. Ares told Diana that Zeus secretly had one final child with her mother, and then hid them on their magic island so Ares couldn't find them. That story about Zeus breathing life into a clay sculpture was just a fairy tale they told her as a child. She's technically not a 'god' because both of her parents aren't gods. She's actually a 'demigod' like Hercules and Achilles, but stronger than them because they had human mothers, and Diana has an Amazonion mother. Amazons are the Greek version of Norse Valkyries- warrior women who serve the gods of Olympus. Since her mother is an Amazon instead of a human, Diana is actually the most powerful demigod to ever exist
The string is called a lasso. the lasso is able to force people to tell the truth, and it can also dispel illusions (to reveal the truth -- hence the name) and restore memories to those who have lost them. It can even restore the mind to sanity and protect people from magical attacks. also her bracelets of Victory these bracelets were forged from the shield of the Zeus himself, and as such, are indestructible. Their connection to Zeus even allows Wonder Woman to use her cuffs in order to project a lightning blast from them, using them as an offensive weapon. She can throw her tiara on her head as a weapon it always returns to her.
She doesn’t need the cuffs. They actually limit her power so she doesn’t outright kill. If she took them off, her power would be almost unlimited, equal or even superior to Superman.
@@taoist32 That's the case in the New52/Rebirth reality, but not in the DCEU -- in this reality, Diana can only manifest her divine radiance power by channeling it through the god/"star" metal that the amazons use. (Her bracers, shield, and sword are all made from it and can act as conduits for her inner divine power, which she can't fully manifest on her own because she's not a full deity but a demi-god.) Note how in this and later/related DCEU movies that when Diana has reduced power levels, things like bullets are deflected as ricochets (crushed/compacted but still existing) from her bracers but when she has her fully awakened power the glow (small emission of her divine power through the bracers) that occurs when she deflects bullets cause them to disintegrate into nothingness, as occurred in JL and other scenes. Same thing with her sword striking others: until her power was fully awakened, it didn't channel through the blade so wasn't capable yet of killing another god; only after she awakens do her weapons become more dangerous to other beings, being able to potentially kill gods or grievously injure powerful opponents (like when she cut Doomsday's leg or cut off his hand in BMvSM). Without her bracers/weapons her effectiveness is actually *reduced* in the DCEU, not enhanced. She needs them to manifest her full potential.
The bracers being the shards of the Aegis was established in the Post Crisis reality while her channeling Zeus' power through them was part of the New Earth reality that followed it. However, in the DCEU, her bracers, sword, shield, etc, are all made from the same god/"star" metal used by the gods and employed by the amazons on Themiscyra -- they're not unique unlike in the Post Crisis reality. Additionally, unlike in the New Earth reality, and somewhat-like-but-still-different in the New52/Rebirth reality, Diana isn't channeling Zeus power with the bracers but manifesting her own inner divine power, which manifested as a radiant (and often radial) blast from her channeling that power when she strikes two separate connections of the god/star metal together as she wields them (she usually does so via her bracers, but can do it other ways as well such as when she struck her bracer and onto her shield in Justice League when she destroyed the one bridge inside Steppenwolf's fortress).
33:24 just some American history context here: Chief is a Native American and the Native American people were nearly all wiped out by white European settlers when they first came to North America. That’s what he meant when he said “his people”.
It's a great scene, not just because of what it says about Chief's character and his relationship with Steve, but because it shows Diana learning more about how complex the world is. She starts off so innocent and learns so much over the course of the movie.
Nah. Morena Baccarin would have been a better pick to play Wonder Woman. Or simply... anyone who *_DOESN'T_* support genocide would have been a better pick to play a superhero.
I know that y'all didn't read the comics but a fun fact is that the way Diana described her birth by being sculpted by Clay and Zeus gave her life that is actually true and also Wonder woman is almost just as strong as Superman
There are many iterations of Steve Trevor. Originally, he was active during WWII. Because DC wanted to distance the Wonder Woman movie from the Captain America MCU movie, they decided to switch the time period from WWII to WWI. There are also many iterations of Wonder Woman. You cuties got to see some Greek Mythology legend here...Movie sticks very much to the 1984 Graphic Novel, (except for Steve dying, but that's Hollywood.) Diana's such an inspiration/role model for young women today, just as her creator, Dr. William Marsten wanted in the 40's ( That was her 40's costume she's wearing). Marsten also invented his own real life Lasso Of Truth a few years after W.W.'s Debut, called it the lie detector machine. ( Between his comic royalties and the L.D.M, he retired early and rich, but said he was more proud of his comic's long-term success) Big props to Gadot..she did a fantastic job playing her.
Gal Gadot is perfect for Wonder Woman, but I didn’t know Chris Pine (Steve) was also in this, I don’t think I’ve seen a bad movie with him in it, and if you want to see a great movie with him in it, then you should watch the first new Star Trek, released in 2009. another recent good one is Dungeons & Dragons (REALLY FUNNY AND GREAT STORY TOO), he doesn’t seem like it, but he is incredibly funny! A lot of his movies he’s very funny in. He did three Star Trek movies, but I think the first one is the best and it really doesn’t matter if you don’t watch the other too, but they are also OK. But he has a lot of good movies. And I would watch Gal Gadot anytime! Actually I could stare at her 24 hours a day, she is absolutely beautiful! And no offense to any of you other ladies because you’re all beautiful, but I really think Chi could pull off Wonder woman as well! 😊
7:40 This scene (as you likely figured out) takes place in 1918, not the far ancient past. (Diana was originally born approximately 5,000 years ago, around 3,000BC, the same time as Zeus created/enchanted Themiscyra before he died -- the time we see passing from her being a little girl to her being grown in the current scene spanned across approximately 4,900 years.) In subtext, and as hinted in the later WW movie WW84, it was the manifestation of Diana's divine power moments earlier, when she let loose that radiant blast, combined with her unspoken desire to want to leave the island (when she closes her eyes and seems to think/pray just a few seconds before in this scene), that caused the enchantment around the island to weaken slightly which allowed Steve's plane and the pursuing German ships to enter and/or find their way to the island. Part of the island's enchantment is to also weaken or inhibit technology to a degree -- notice how the larger, more technical German ships begin to sink as they enter the barrier in the background later on, just as Steve's ship was damaged, versus the simple rowboats they used to get to the island. Many subtle details occur in this and other related DCEU movies.
Although this is a comic book fantasy, there are a few details that you might find it interesting to have a little background knowledge of. Ares is the God of War in Greek mythology, called Mars by the Romans. The Amazons were a people in Greek mythology, portrayed in a number of ancient epic poems and legends, such as the Labours of Heracles, the Argonautica and the Iliad. They were female warriors and hunters, known for their physical agility, strength, archery, riding skills, and the arts of combat. Their society was closed to men and they raised only their daughters. Diana Prince, Wonder Woman, in this film is a special super being created as a weapon able to defeat Ares (the 'GodKiller') The film is set toward the end of World War One, 1914 to 1918. The German Imperial Empire ruled by Kaiser Wilhelm II was allied with the Austro Hungarian Empire and the Ottoman Empire, that included what is now Turkey, fighting against France and the British Empire, and from 1917 the USA. The aeroplane Steve steals to make his escape at the start of the film is a Fokker E III Eindecker fighter, the first fighter in the world to have syncronised machine guns able to fire through the propeller arc. Part of this film was shot at Arundel Castle in West Sussex England, only a short distance from my home 😃
It always amazes me how well dressed you two are in your reviews. Thank you for taking the time for us. By the way, you both look extra lovely in black!
Chi, Hella, though I've never met you in person, I love you two like good close friends, who I love spending time with! What could be better than watching a good movie with two sweet and smart (not to mention good looking) ladies. Thank you for spending time with me!
I think in the comics with the origin of Wonder Woman, after she leaves her island and comes to the rest of the world, before meeting Steve and before becoming a hero as Wonder Woman, Diana when discovering her powers used her strength in wrestling events and competition I guess for fame and fortune, kinda like Peter Parker did when he discovered his Spider powers before becoming Spider-Man
I love your passionate understanding of why love is so important.. And that there are people who show that love in the face of danger and hatred even if they have to sacrifice themselves for the people they love.. Chi and Hella.. Two Beautiful Souls full of Compassion and Love and Beauty inside and outside..
@@AmosTheTalentedI wonder if Disney has secretly thought about buying WarnerBros, they’d get Discovery with it now. Dump ABC and a few other assets to fund it, though they’re not in a position to do it now, 2 years ago, maybe, without Iger. Combined universes, new weird unlocked. The way to integrate them is to make up some all knowing entity that combines the universes and they both have to fight. Of course, the evil entity is allegory for Disney doing it. Heck, make it a completely new universe so you can bring back Iron Man, now he can dunk on Superman, Cap isn’t the only goodie two-shoes then. The Avenger League? Justice Avengers?
Wonder Woman first appeared in 1941. She was invented by a psychologist and writer who also had hand in the invention of lie detector. Maybe he had some sort of kink too because she seemed to end up being tied with her own lasso suspiciously often in the early issues. The other famous live action Wonder Woman is Lynda Carter from the 70s series. She fought Nazis. This movie is set during WWI, so they are not Nazi's yet. They just called it the Great War, because they didn't know there was going to be another one. Some recent movies to watch about that war would be "1917" and "All Quiet on the Western Front".
In the earliest incarnation, that was her weakness- if she was tied up she lost her power. I am not up to date on the current rebooted D.C. universe, but WW really does not have a weakness any more, making her VERY overpowered say to Superman with his weakness to Kryptonite. They need to give her a weakness if only to create believable obstacles for her.
In the earliest issues, if I recall correctly, being bound at all took away her powers, not just being bound with her lasso. Also, her inventor was definitely kinky. He lived in a polyamorous relationship and was big into bondage.
There is a terrific movie called "Professor Marston and the Wonder Women" which is a mostly accurate depiction of the creator, his wife, and their poly partner. Wonder Woman's bracelets were in fact modeled after bracelets they exchanged in their (unsanctioned) throuple marriage.
@@jesterssketchbook That's the reason I just posted this comment. I hadn't seen Gal Gadot for awhile until I watched this reaction here ... then I remembered how few women in the world could even come close
In the original comics from 1941 the home of the Amazons was an island of all women called Paradise Island. The Queen wanted a child so badly she sculpted a child out of clay then prayed to her gods (The Greek gods) to bring the sculpture to life. They granted her wish. The queen named the baby Diana. That's the version of her creation she told Steve on the boat after they left the island. In more modern comic books her origin was changed to Zeus, king of the Greek gods, being her father like in this movie. In Greek mythology Zeus frequently cheated on his wife Hera and came to Earth and fathered many babies. Hercules probably being the most famous. So like her half brother Hercules, Diana is part god. So Ares is also her half brother. In the comics her adventures take place during Wwii but this one is set in WWI.
*The fight scenes were done by Zack Snyder, the director of Man of Steel and Batman v Superman movie you already watched. Not just fight scenes, he co-wrote the story, supervised the production and was heavily involved. Jenkins didn't do that much to be honest.*
History lesson!! Very brief one, but Ancient Greeks believed in the island you see in the film. According to their own history, Athena set up the island as a refuge for women (from many lands) and the women we warrior scholars just as their patron goddess was. It seems to have originated out of some real life nuggets of truth, its believed by most historians that the greeks were inspired by the scyhians who were matriarchal and where women fought along side the men on horseback. This film was soo amazing, and exactly what the fans hopped for. . .then they ruined it with the sequel and the Justice league. Thankfully Znyder Cut kind of saved her character. But it was sooo good, and then fell soo far. Very sad.
Yea, Zeus is the father of Diana (and also her twin sister many don't know about), which makes Ares her half-brother. In the original comics, she was sculpted from white clay (and her twin was sculpted from black clay).
@@ronbo11 So technically she is stronger then Thor? Because Ares was using thunder and a lot of more powers but he still lost or you Think She Won because of script
I would like to see you react to "Kick ass". It is a very good movie, funny and somekind serious super hero movie... This movie it would surprise you a lot hehehe. By the way, very good react in this one, I enjoyed a lot girls 😘😆
20:26 That's somewhat Wonder Woman's original origin, her mother sculpted her of clay then the Greek goddesses brought her to life and blessed her. It was then changed to Zeus bringing her to life and all Greek gods blessing her, then changed to Ares being her father(depending on timing it was either consensual or not) and the last change that I know of(and still current canon) is Zeus is her father.
39:56 Just to clarify as far as I know Wonder Woman can be hurt by bullets, sharp or penetrative weapons(such as swords, spears or bullets) can injure her hence her wristbands and shield to guard against them she is however incredibly resistant to blunt force. For an example a bullet may injure her but take a larger object moving the same speed or faster like a car and it might knock her down(not likely though) but she won't be injured.
58:29 Zeus is both their fathers. Greek mythology is pretty popular in the west. Hades is often portrayed as the villain in western media, though Zeus tends to be the bigger asshole (sleeping with lots of women, cheating on Hera, making lots of demigods as well; including Heracles, or Herculese in Roman myth).
It is incredible how good the first movie is and how bad the second one is :D. I would still love to see you react to Spiderman movies from Tobi to Tom.
36:54. One of the things I enjoy about the movies that use the Comic Book stories is when they use slow-motion or stop-motion to imitate the source material. Deadpool is great at this and Watchmen does it well also.
Absolutely great reaction to a really good movie. I think the reason Steve and the Germans managed to break through the barrier protecting paradise island was because Diana had weakened it for a short while when she first created the blast from her bracelets. Please do watch Wonder Woman 84 also. Many haters will tell you not to but you be the judge for yourselves. i have seen some reactors actually enjoy it so you may enjoy it. Either way it will be fun watching your reactions to it. But for now looking forward to your Zack Snyders Justice League reaction next. Hopefully it's in 2 parts and not just an hour reaction. 🤞
I would agree with watching WW84. It's not as good as this movie, but it is enjoyable. It just couldn't reach the bar set by this movie. Also, look into the DECU. You also have Aquaman to catch up with! (I'm not a fan of the Flash)
He mentioned she was the Child Zeus had with the Amazon Queen. So she's Zeus daughter which makes Ares her Brother. So she's a Demigod half God half human, like Hercules.
I’m sure someone else mentioned this but I’m lazy and don’t want to look for it. The final scene was when she went to help Superman and Batman fight Doomsday in Batman v. Superman.
The next one is Wonder Woman 1984. I was so looking forward to it but it was very disappointing after this movie. The main mistake was letting the director of this this movie write the sequel. Patty Jenkins is a good director but she should only direct other people's scripts. However, it does have Lynda Carter in it. She played Wonder Woman on TV in the 70s and is still attractive in her 70s. I have had a crush on her since I was little.
49:40 one of the troubling things about wars, conflicts-even murder at times, both sides usually consider themselves “the good guys”. What a concept-there are no good guys. Just “guys”
If you liked the actor who played Steve in this movie (Chris Pine) you should watch Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (you should watch it anyway, because it’s amazing!) it stars Chris Pine and it’s very funny and criminally underrated!
Diana is a demigoddess, the daughter of Zeus and Queen Hippolyta of the Amazons. Thus she has the power to fight Ares, the god of war. The Amazons live in an isolated world, one more ancient than 1918. Their style and views toward war are also far different, as the Amazons have no knowledge with planes, guns, or poisonous gas. WWI was Hell on Earth. "Villains who twirl their mustaches are easy to spot; those who clothe themselves in good deeds are well camouflaged." - Jean-Luc Picard, Captain, USS Enterprise-D and E.
This movie was literally one of the best strong female led action movies of the modern times that so many other movies can’t seem to get right.

Its sequel... I don't know what they were trying to accomplish with that one.

A sequel almost as messed up as Joker 2.

I think in the comics with the origin of Wonder Woman, after she leaves her island and comes to the rest of the world, before meeting Steve and before becoming a hero as Wonder Woman, Diana when discovering her powers used her strength in wrestling events and competition I guess for fame and fortune, kinda like Peter Parker did when he discovered his Spider powers before becoming Spider-Man
You mean 'The Human Spider'?
I love that Helen watches EXACLTY the movie I want her to watch :)
Chi and Hela wearing their villain outfits for this one. Their super power is breaking hearts…
Bare shoulders again! Thank god I'm totally immune to bare smooth as creamy silk shoulders! Yes siree!😊😊😊 So what was the movie they were watching??
Very true.
Hi guys. Looking good as usual. Love Hela's outfit.
Great reaction here. A lot of laughs😊. Gail did a very good job here.
You guys are awesome keep up the great work❤❤❤🎉
I love your passionate understanding of why love is so important.. And that there are people who show that love in the face of danger and hatred even if they have to sacrifice themselves for the people they love.. Chi and Hella.. Two Beautiful Souls full of Compassion and Love and Beauty inside and outside..
Remember when you watched Forrest Gump?
Well, the Queen’s sister, the Amazon who trains Diana, is Jenny from Forrest Gump.
And Buttercup from The Princess Bride.
@@WinstonSmith19847 and the ex-wife in Moneyball.
@@JuandeFucaU Oh I have not seen that.
@@WinstonSmith19847 she's only in it for 2 minutes but it's a great movie.
I love Wonder Woman so much she is my favorite superhero and this movie
Wonder Woman is a DC hero, not Marvel.
@@AmosTheTalented Oh yeah my bad 😣
I hate the WW character itself created by some delusional perverted psycho cuck. She redeemed herself with this movie.
Wonder Woman is one of my Favorite movies, just because GAL GADOT is so BEAUTIFUL and the perfect choice !!
(THANKS - Dave Strong)
she really is just stunning isnt she - i love how WARM her eyes are
@@jesterssketchbook That's the reason I just posted this comment. I hadn't seen Gal Gadot for awhile until I watched this reaction here ... then I remembered how few women in the world could even come close
You are both simply amazing. My favorite reaction channel. Thank you for what you do!!!
Will they recognize Princess Buttercup? We shall see!!! This is one of the better Super Hero movies for sure. Gal Gadot rocks the performance.
haha, I didn't realize it until I read this.
Which one was buttercup?
@@fireeaglefitnessmartialart935 Antiope her Aunt, the one who took a bullet for Diana.😊
@@poppletop8331 I didn't even know. That's cool.
Very sad.
loving these reactions! btw in America we just call these types of characters "superheroes", very few people say metahuman
What beautiful dresses you're wearing😊
Yea, Zeus is the father of Diana (and also her twin sister many don't know about), which makes Ares her half-brother. In the original comics, she was sculpted from white clay (and her twin was sculpted from black clay).
I love when they watch heroin movies.
Hela's closures are quite mindful
This is one of the best DC superhero movies. Another good one is The Watchmen.
10:04- young??? She’s literally 5000 years old
Bro i never finish watching the entire Movie so i never knew Wonder Woman is A GOD or GODDESS
A daughter of Zeus, sister of Ares!
@@ronbo11 So technically she is stronger then Thor? Because Ares was using thunder and a lot of more powers but he still lost or you Think She Won because of script
In case you ladies didn't notice, Antiope is played by Robin Wright, who was Princess Buttercup in "The Princess Bride".
wow i didnt notice cos of the age!!
The Amazons know war. They don't know guns and bullets.
58:31 Zeus is her father, and Ares is the son of Zeus which means they're siblings.
Loved your reaction. Wonderwoman is an underrated movie now.
39:56 Just to clarify as far as I know Wonder Woman can be hurt by bullets, sharp or penetrative weapons(such as swords, spears or bullets) can injure her hence her wristbands and shield to guard against them she is however incredibly resistant to blunt force. For an example a bullet may injure her but take a larger object moving the same speed or faster like a car and it might knock her down(not likely though) but she won't be injured.
thanks for reaction
When she did some reshoots for this film, she was 5 months pregnant.
58:29 Zeus is both their fathers. Greek mythology is pretty popular in the west. Hades is often portrayed as the villain in western media, though Zeus tends to be the bigger asshole (sleeping with lots of women, cheating on Hera, making lots of demigods as well; including Heracles, or Herculese in Roman myth).
girls, she is ZEUZ's daughter ARES is the son of Zeuz too. ADES is brother of ZEUZ
Thankyou so much for reacting to the Snyder cut! ❤❤
you ladies look BEAUTIFUL! and AWESOME today! 😁 you will make moritcia addams jealous! 😉 very much REALLY ENJOYED your reaction! 👍☺
It is incredible how good the first movie is and how bad the second one is :D. I would still love to see you react to Spiderman movies from Tobi to Tom.
Another great reaction thanks ladies!
i agree!
Diana is the daughter of Zeus and the Queen of the Amazons, so Ares is her brother or half-brother to be more exact.
I still love that this movie has an entire scene centered around a penis joke.
It makes sense Diana could channel the lightning as Zeus is her dad.
26:40 The men are complaining about Diana's presence because it is the early 1900s.
Ares was Diana's brother. Zeus was Diana's father. -OG
Just “guys”
Great reaction. You both look lovely, as always.
Very nice outfits ladys. You look very sophisticated!!
My goodness!! You ladies look so elegant and lovely!
Great reaction and commentary
❤️❤️❤️ 😁 lets goo!!
Love your videos. They are so entertaining. 👍
I ❤ this movie
Cheers 👍😊😊😊
Ansioso por ver esta reacción. La peli me parece genial... quizás la pelea final es un poco floja, pero lo demás está bien.
This is the only DCEU movie I liked enough to buy on Blu Ray.
I never liked or bought a single MCU "movie" because Scorsese correctly said they're not movies, just theme park rides. 😊
If you liked the actor who played Steve in this movie (Chris Pine) you should watch Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (you should watch it anyway, because it’s amazing!) it stars Chris Pine and it’s very funny and criminally underrated!
Gal Gadot is truly the fairest of them all🥰🪞
Perfect reaction. Thankyou.
If it hasn't been said already. Gal Gadot was 5 months pregnant when filming this. 😁
One of my favourite superhero movies
As much as you enjoyed Chris Pine's performance here I would highly recommend Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Theives
Great reaction ...you two ladies realized so much of the of the deep story line.I like your reactions so much.
I had been far more impressed with Marvel over DC recent movies but loved this WW...excellent story and casting 👌👍❤

He’s talking about the Native Americans losing to the British.
There a movie based on Sitting Bull. The last free chief.
It’s okay.
You always dress so beautifully. 😊
