Just ordered one. I have never played piano, but recently fell in love with the sound of piano and it's ability to calm and soothe the mind. Can not wait to go through all the ups and downs of learning this instrument.
It's interesting to see (hear) that the P45 still appears to be holding its place in value for money. It's short key length "inside the works" to the pivot point making playing up between the black notes a little difficult is unfortunate but inevitable with a shallow cabinet depth, and certainly a compromise worth accepting at the price level. I was impressed when I played one and recommended it to a friend who was a "near-beginner". He was very pleased with the choice.
Not to make you feel bad, but I ordered a Yamaha piano bench from Amazon for $28 and they sent me one of these by mistake (It had an open box sticker on it, but when I opened it it had clearly never been taken from the box). I called them to let them know of the mistake and offered to return it, but they told me to keep it! Oh, and it works perfectly, just no warranty.
I've had this piano for years and it is amazing the only thing is that I wish it had more smart functionalities (like more instrument settings and a feature that some other have some type of glowing keys setting for preset songs or whatever)
I hv a few questions if u don’t mind me asking, are the keys heavy or light? Is the keyboard loud? Do u believe that it is the best keyboard you’ve seen?
@@UA-cam_username-yf5dn For years I owned the Yamaha P-35, the younger brother of the P-45/71. It was an excellent basic piano. The action (in my opinion) is a bit heavy, but that’s a good thing for piano technique. Best keyboard? No, but a great simple piano with Yamaha’s great build quality. Hope this helps. 😎🎹
@Wild Atlantic Caught Salmon I’m planning on buying my first piano keyboard, do you recommend this for a beginner? Also like you mentioned using headphones for it, is it simple to plug them in?
I am currently using yamaha p45. This lowest price digital piano is enough on midi recording and applying VST. Available with three touch response levels, as well as reverbs.

@@JeremySee thanks. I nearly purchased the DGX-670 but after seeing your reviews on this and that one decided that as an early stage beginner and someone who wants a bit more mobile keyboard the P71/45 was a better choice. Your reviews and demos are among the best on UA-cam. Keep up the good work.
Do you think p125 is a worthy upgrade from p45? Also do you think p125 is going get updated anytime soon? Roland just updated their fp30x I’m leaning towards that unless Yamaha comes out with a new version of p125. (Maybe p135?)
I just reserved one of these! For me it played real nice and the price was soo much better than p125. Will probably use it for some years before buying a "bigger & better" one down the line. At first I was going to buy the Privia sx1000 or 3000 but the black keys being SO much lighter was a big turnoff. P-45 being half the price made it a solid deal. I even got the price down because I bundled it with a stand and pedal.
Thank you very much for your review. Your reviews are sooo on point and informative. I'm still torn between Roland FP10 and Yamaha p45. Would really appreciate if you could do a comparison review of the two pianos 🙏
Hi Shankia. I am stuck in that comparison too. Is the FP-10 worth the $200 over the P-45 for someone who is only interested to learn piano and is starting out!
My truly honest opinion, if you have more money to spare and you're really serious about learning to play the piano, don't settle for the P-45, in about 3 years you'll be looking to upgrade again, thus spending more money. If you can spend the extra 100-200 bucks, go for either a Yamaha P-125 or my favorite one, the Roland FP-30X.
I had one of these 3 years ago and when we were allowed to go to the music store and try pianos out the P45 always felt the best. it is what I ultimately want not unless the FP10 is better. I think that Yamaha should upgrade this somehow bluetooth wifi or something new.
You do such a great job! Does the small key (lever) size affect the action as much on the Yamaha P-45 as on the Casio CDP S150? Or are they comparable in that regard? Thanks!!
One minor annoyance with the P45 is the location of the headphone jack. It should be easily accessible on the front or side of the unit. Instead, it's on the back in an awkward place. Alternatively, it could have a switch to toggle between speakers and headphones. With a toggle switch, you could leave the headphones plugged into their existing awkward location more or less permanently.
What would be a good piano to start learning but also use for music production? Would this one work for music production or would you need midi controls?
Hi Jeremy I wanted a professional’s advice on this. If you can help me on this one. I want a digital piano for learning piano and all I care about is the graded 88keys and piano tone to learn piano. Which digital pianos you suggest form Casio, Yamaha or Roland as these are the brands we get here in India. Casio S-100/150 and Yamaha P45 are both around $500 and Roland FP-10 is around $700. My question is… is the FP-10 worth additional $200 dollars and that you would u buy it in this case? Your reply will help me a lot. Thanks!
I guess that not having many sounds or other distractions might be considered a plus by parents pointing their kids at piano study. The lack of even a basic recorder would annoy me. And there are many other limitations, including the outdated basic sound and action. But it will do the job for a beginner, and it will retain some resale value.
