Best WEIGHTED Keyboards UNDER $500 - Yamaha P-45 VS Alesis Recital Pro

  • Piano teachers always prefer a student to practice on an acoustic piano, but when that isn't an option, they recommend a student at least practice on a keyboard with 88 weighted keys. When looking for a first practice keyboard budget is often a concern and today we have two weighted keyboard options for under $500. As always, we stand behind the Yamaha P-45 but we were also pleasantly surprised about the build quality and sample sounds in the Alesis Recital Pro. Tune in for a look and listen.

    I have a recital pro, and I am learning the piano.
    My neighbour is a professional, classical, pianist. After I bought it I invited him over to “test” it for me.
    He was blown away, played it for about 40 min. After he just said, “very impressive, must have cost a fortune.” I said just over $500( Canadian). He was in shock. The keys are very nice, not graded, but feel great and responsive. The sound is something that surprised him, because he doesn’t like how his Yamaha keyboard sounds next to his grand, but was impressed by the “colour” of the sound.
    They both sound good to me... but my ears are not trained. Stand alone, you would probably never know the difference between them.

      I have the Alesis non-pro version and the sound on that one is initially pretty nice, but a few months down the line it's just not holding up. The higher notes don't sustain long at all and when they do, they have a horrendous ring to them. They also tend to get cut off by the lower notes as well.
      How does the pro hold up after a few months?

    • @stevendavies1496
      @stevendavies1496 3 роки тому +2

      @@Grigeral I find that the higher octaves don't ring out as long as the lower ones, but that's true on acoustic pianos I've played. If I turn the volume up over half or wear headphones it holds notes longer. I think that the sound amp cuts out under a certain volume. Also, the keyboard is capable of stacking like 128 tones before losing the oldest ones, but I don't have ears good enough to confirm.
      But overall, it holds up well. My 13yo son plays it, my 2yo great niece beats on it.

      I'd wait. Yamaha will most likely release another entry level updated piano. P 45 is seriously expensive considering that it is behind in almost everything. From engine..to speakers..the ghs has been around for more than 7 years. No longer worth the price. Might as well save an extra 150 and buy roland fp10. Better in every way and WAY more up to date. Or just wait for the upcoming version of p45. Yamaha is known to wait till last minute to get every last buck before they go for another build. Or go for the casio s350. A bit cheaper but better with more options to offer. Just speaking from experience.

    The first digital piano I got was the Alesis recital 88-key it wasn't the pro version its price is $299 Canadian dollars it's not a bad piano for $299 but it is just your basic with 5 voices. I'm ready to grow now it would be nice to have somthing with fully weighted keys and a screen and a wide transpose function range more than just 5 steps. I didn't bother with the alesis recital pro version as it's more money and don't offer to much more than the basic recital. I think Alesis claim to fame has been sound equipment but they make great solid digital pianos for beginners just starting out without spending a lot of money

    I bought the Alesis Recital Pro for $299.99 on an Amazon Black Friday lightning deal. For that price, I think it was an excellent option for my kids to practice on in our small house. i have a yamaha p-45 and its amazing, however i let my brother borrow it for a while and when he gave it back the volume slider is stuck on full volume (by this i mean that no matter where the volume slider is the keyboard is at full volume) and some of the keys scratch and the high g key presents an audible click when pressing it... obviously not the keyboards fault but it really is a shame, would 100% recommend this keyboard though

    I've owned the p45 for about a year and just love the simplicity of it when it's on it matching stand. I don't really care for the extra voices because I only care for the grand piano because that is what's more important to me. The extra buttons or display from other keyboards turns me away and reminds me of just cheap keyboards besides the tyros etc but still, those displays turn me away. Another thing is it has midi so when I have it connected to my computer I do use the studio monitors and get to mess with Garageband and their massive library of voices. But I do wish I would of spent a little more to get the p125 so I come with proper matching pedals that connect to the matching stand. But oh well have to stick with this. So far I'm enjoying this simple keyboard and I'm not pro enough to even realize that the polyphony count is much less than other cheaper brands. I'm a yamaha fan so willing to pay extra :) Same with my girlfriend and her baby grand piano. So just make a pick both are amazing.

It is the sound patch which is actuated when you press to get the red light on the first acoustic piano sound selection button. Also, try the three different attack velocity parameters by turning the dial in the center.. these are also saved when you turn the piano off and on again.

    Man, surprised how many say the Yamaha sounds better. I understand that's how opinions work, but really? The Alesis has a much more lush piano sound, more stereo space, more freq range. The Rhodes actually sounds a lot like a real Rhodes which is what I look for rather than the same ol generic E.Piano sound on most cheap keyboards. The strings have a much more usable sound with a nice attack and slow decay. The Yamaha synth/strings sounds like Nintendo 64. Not sure what people are listening to say the Yamaha sounds better.

      really I found alesis character less and having no dynamic variation / timber. fast and slow playing merely resulted in volume change. also tone felt more plastic and thin to me. the concert grand (usually the first tone in every piano) should sound full and warm! what you talking about lush sparkle are bright pianos or upright pianos usually 3rd or 4th in tone bank on all keyboards. flagship tones of concert grand (9 / 10 foot pianos) should sound warm and punchy. Alesis sounded thin and sparkly to me.
