Fantastic video. Really accurate. I've owned my Imola Red Z4M coupe for over 15 years and have in that time purchased Porsche 911 Carrera S 997.1 and Cayman S 987.2 to replace it but they have both gone and the Z4M remains. Fantastic S54 engine with ITB's to give amazing throttle response, and a fabulous shape and sit on the rear axle nearly feeling of driving with the sculpted bonnet your view ahead.
Have just returned from 2500 mile across Europe taking in the Nurburgring and many of the Alps passes. car was faultless from doing 160mph on German autobahn to mostly 2nd gear blast up the tight Stelvio Pass switchbacks. Only thing that could have been better was fuel consumption, but then if I drove it slower it would have done so!
I think the video is perfect description except for one thing - future classic? It's already a classic now...
I've tried driving slower & it doesn't help much :D
Nick, I‘be owned my 07 Z4M roadster for 9 years. 52k miles on stock suspension, but it’s time for a refresh. Have you refreshed your suspension at all, and if so, which parts/brands did you use?
Hi Ben, I'm still on all my original parts apart from 2x new rear springs which were replaced by BMW under my extended warranty as per well known rear spring snap issue. My driving is all as second car so it's led an 'easy' life relatively. If I had to look at replacing I would consider improvements away from stock not so much for pure handling but for overall comfort. One thing I did notice though was that when I took my car on recent 2500 mile trip, the suspension became more compliant as I was using the car daily. Normally my car is garaged for a few weeks between drives... Seemed to benefit from being driven more which I suppose in not surprising really...
@@benlevy9308
@@nickwilliams7490 thanks, Nick! My car is an occasional weekend car as well. I don’t love the stock comfort level either, though the car could probably benefit from more frequent and longer drives, considering I’ve only put 25k miles on during my 9 years, and only 5k in the last 2-3 years.
Ah, same as me then and very similar mileage in the past few years. I have been thinking that the stock ride has improved so much after that 2500 mile trip that it could be used as my daily... Still a very stiff car though! ;-) @@benlevy9308
Shhhhhh i was hoping this was kept a secret till I can afford one it’s was like a childhood dream car of mine
Get a 3.0 coupe instead, it’s 90% of the car for 25% of the price.
I’ve had one for 2 years, it’s brilliant, and way more reliable than the M.
@@darkchild130 I definitely will but I did want the M at some point, would probably have it as a second car
@@darkchild130 Coming from a z4 3.0si Coupe and now having an M coupe, I can promise you the 3.0 is not 90% of the car, they are worlds apart. The 3.0 looks amazing and is much cheaper to buy and run but now having owned the M its hard to even consider the 3.0 as a sports car, you need to experience M ownership to understand.
@@jamesmcdonald1889 one of my best mates has one, I’ve driven it multiple times. Coming from owning many v8s I was not overly impressed. I stand by my opinion.
@@darkchild130the 3.0si is a wonderful car and a bargain but it is miles away from the M offering. The n52 engine is capable, the s54 is in another league. Add the difference between the steering racks, hydraulic vs electric, the 3.0si does not stand a chance. However it is a wonderful bargain and offers the possibility to drive an e86 for 55/60% of the M cost.
Owned one in the 2009 and sold it for a Cayman S. Both fantastic cars but the Z4M coupe has so much more character. Regretted selling it and was fortunate to find a low mileage sample in Connecticut last year. Flew with my wife from Texas and drove it back on an epic road trip over 4 days. Flawless, comfortable, rare gem of a drivers car. This time it isn’t going anywhere.
October will be a year owning mine. 100% with the suspension feeling a bit harsh if your roads aren't the smoothest. It's quick enough off a line if that's what you want, but 60-120 mph is where this thing shines, and on the mountain roads, it's balanced enough stock to run down a 911 GT3, and the boot is capable enough to support a run to Costco or a few overnight bags without feeling pinched.
Wonderful car; hope it keeps on appreciating!
You’re delusional if you think you can “run down “ a GT3. Only if I’m driving, lol. Let’s see you take down my 981 Spyder.
@@clu4u Didn't say I think I can; said that it happened. Enjoy the 981 though, sure it's a joy to drive.
Still got mine almost 15yrs.. still enjoy driving it.. between this car and my e92 m3, driving experience is so different, with the E86 being rough, lively, edge of your seat feeling. While the e92 being more planted and confidence inspiring. I love both and I can’t bring myself to sell either one. They’re really are the ultimate driving machines
I’m looking to replace my Clio v6 with one, and have the same pairing as you.
Not so fast, my 2016 981 Spyder shares the garage with my 2024 Model Y Performance. I got the ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINES.
Owned mine for 6 years. Used as weekend toy in cottage country Love it. Bratwurst thick steering wheel, screaming engine, great steering and brakes. Total analog blast from the past. People ride up my bumper here in Ontario as they've never seen one .
Had a 3.0si, loved it. I bet the M was epic without the run flats and that epic redline.
Magic value cars. More expensive now but I did 30k mile in mine and loved it
Ive currently got a 3.0si manual as my daily. Love it to bits. I feel like it could only really replace it with a Lotus.
The hydraulic steering is what really sets the M car apart (and the S54 of course too).
I'm glad I'm not the only one using it as a daily driver! Love it after 2.5 years.
I did buy an '06 Cayman S 2 years ago and I still want one of these Z4 MCs. I bought a Z3 2.8 instead and don't regret that at all but I still want this car. I think it is a classic.
I owned one some 10 years ago and my main memory looking back is how un-finessed the car was in the best ways possible. First to second took a little bit of measure and the whole chassis seems to follow the engine rather than feel like its all one entity. Its got a huge amount of character.
Great review. One minor point.. they don't have the getrag manual of the e46 m3. The z4m came with the zf gearbox instead.
This Engine is a masterpiece!
Bought my '06 11 years ago and love it. Occasionally consider getting rid of it for something else and haven't come up with anything I want more. I wouldn't want to daily drive it for a number of reasons (almost 20 years old, mpg, maintenance, etc.) but a great weekend/fun car.
So lovely! I had a black one as my daily for 3 Years. Was awsome! Best trip was from northern Germany to the Ferrari Factory in Modena in one day. Always remember the sound! ❤
Had one for 4 years absolute joy to drive and beautiful to look at.
I have one. A true delight to drive and look at! A classic for sure.
Great review.
I drove one of these when it was new and loved it.
Can’t wait for the next video in this series.
Already a classic, I had a E85 3 litre and it was a great little car, very nearly bought a Z4M Roadster to replace it, but life got in the way. Kinda still got an itch for one, they're a bit special - the M's had hydraulic steering whereas the normal versions had electronic steering that felt a bit dead in comparison!
Am I weird if I say that I love this car? It has something of Shelby Daytona Coupe in it and it is awesome
Since it's the greatest looking BMW in the last 20 years, no I don't think you sound weird. :)
For me it is literally a modern Datsun 240z. Having them next to each other in the garage, made me realize how many things are the same. The body lines, driving position, gauges and small details inside and outside. 🙂
I had and sold 3 Datsuns Zs several years ago and I have to agree with you. I currently have an M Roadster (06 Sepang Bronze) and often think the same thing. The inline 6 in both cars are just great. @@ZettoMedia
100% agree!
I own a 2007 BMW Z4 M roadster. This truely is a drivers car. No modern roadsters, including BMW, are a true driver's car because of the electronic driving aids.
I can turn off the electronics on my 2016 981 Spyder. It’s already a classic, only 2450 ever made. The best driver’s car 🚘
Just bought mine. Never selling it. Seems like a no-brainer that these will double in price in a few years as EV's become more and more prevalent.
these are excellent cars. They really do drive phenomenally. Sad they didn't leave enough room for someone that is 6'3" and 35" inseam in stock configuration.
I absolutely love mine. Coming from an RS4 I was worried about it feeling special enough but that S54 is an absolute masterpiece. I’d highly recommend some form of carbon intake also, it makes the induction noise 100x more addictive
These cost a LOT more outside UK
Got one of those engines tucked away in my garage!
Nice review, accurate except that the 6sp Getrag gearbox didn't fit so it has a 6sp ZF. Notchy and mechanical feel.
Mine is Interlagos Blue, with 40,000 miles (65000kms). Glorious connected analog drive. Same performance as my 997 911, but more edgy and harsh. Deliciously different.
My first sports car bought one when I was 21 as a present to myself for getting my first job out of Uni. I sold it to go traveling and decided to get a Z4M roadster instead after a couple of Porsches. they really are fab cars. The roadsters being half the price of the coupes is certainly the sports car bargain right now and has been for a long time.
Can confirm....mine carries the same Imola Red paint, on Alpina B10 wheels with extra oomph from an ESS supercharger. My dream car!
Who fiited your supercharger?
@@Lukec4ge It was done by the previous owner, a dentist. Probably an awesome one because his installation was meticulous!
I’m currently trying to buy one , it has a 135 k on it. Silver with black interior , manual trans with a vortech super charger. The guy wants 15k usd. Clean title and straight body no rust. Should I pull the trigger ?!
I’ve had mine for 10 years.. in the states top examples are 70+ following the top z3 m coupes.
I owned a Imola red Z4M Roadster. This video made me all misty eyed!
Gorgeous car! Still underrated.
Love it, they're interviewing this car owners like a documentation about sth important. But its just a car and they are trying to do it so professionally😂😂
Great review. Thanks Becky.
Just saw one parked near one of my customers house. I had forgotten about them… it was in that gorgeous deep blue… truly gorgeous car. Lucky you got to drive it!
The gearbox is made by ZF as the Getrag from the M3 didn't fit.
Have one, its the greatest thing ever. I've got some headers, etc, kinda sounds like a poor man's GT3 4 litre
Hey, we even have the same Z4 keyring
great vid, great car :-)
I have my Z4 M Coupe for sale on Pistonheads, black, 53k miles.
It’s ‘Screaming’out for front spacers as it’s been dropped!!
Excellent
Fantastic video and M Coupe however I feel you are overlooking the car edgy characteristic and overselling it. I love mine and will never sell my M coupe but your review is not transparent.
Accelerating faster than Clownshoe prices 👀
In the UK the price of these has actually gone down in the last few years. You can pick up a decent one under £20k now.
One sold for 44k on a auction here in Poland this week... 😐 100k km, manual, interlagos blue + black interior.
Love s54❤
Proper video
Z4M v E46 M3?
Legend ❤
🤔 got a 2008 M coupe with 20k miles I’m thinking about selling.
Princess Becky👸
Nice❤
Wait till you drive ours…😊
The long nose always reminds me of the classic Jaq. E type.
Do its rival 2006 to 2009 slk55 amg
that's my uncle Tom's car
👍👍👍
Great car but extremely snappy at the limit compared to an M3.
Back when BMW knew how to make an actual drivers car. They’ve strayed so far from what they were founded upon
She said 3.2 M??
Afroduck approves of this! 😊
Owner made a terrible choice. Cayman S is much better. I'll take that crappy Z4M off your hands as a favor 😅
'Promo SM'
I dont like this version, the facelifted one on the other hand looks better
There is no facelift, mate
@@pereldh5741 my mistake, I meant the e89, the next gen
Nah, the new Z4 looks like a boulevard posing cruiser, and there's no M version. For that you need a Supra...
with who?
