God Im so glad FS finally nailed this specific type of gimmick bossfight in Elden Ring. Yhorm wouldve been one of the most memorable fight in the entire FS catalogue if not for how awfully designed his entire things are. 1. Is highly resistant to everything except for the Giantslayer so its pretty much mandatory to use the Storm Ruler. 2. The sword is placed on the ass end of the room so you have to haul ass to get to it. 3. The game expects you to open the inventory, read its description, equip it, and figure out how to properly use it *in the middle of a goddamn Lord of Cinder bossfight*. 4. Giantslayer is unintuitive to use; it doesnt tell you that it is a two phase charge attack, so most people will probably die trying to figure out how to even do the attack on their first time. 5. And if you managed to be thorough/lucky enough to follow through Siegward's questline up to that point on your first playthrough chances are he's gonna get killed in the fight because you are to busy dealing with the aformentioned problems. Srsly he couldve been the Ludwig/Radahn of DS3 in terms of badass epic cinematic fight if not for all of that shit.
Well, if you've played Demons' Souls from back then it will click for you to use it the way it was intended. Since you had to haul ass to get the Stormruler too when facing the Storm King and then do the same. If it ain't a DeS player tho, yeah they are gonna have difficulty unless they used a guide or got hints
At that point in the game, you should know or at least be aware that some weapons already have an special attack with L2, so it should have been intuitive... RIP onion bro :C . Still not blaming Kanata for it, so dont get me wrong.
@@BloodTrinityeven then there are things with the Storm King fight that makes it better compared to Yhorm. 1. Its made obvious the moment you go through the fog gate that the Storm King is a gimmick fight because all the enemies are flying and completely out of range. With Yhorm you have to hit him a bunch to know that he takes shit damage, and then hit him a bunch again to make sure its not about looking for a weak spot like Wolnir. 2. There are plenty of covers in the Storm King arena where you can hide from enemy attack to check and equip the Storm Ruler in relative safety. You dont get that with Yhorm.
@@Genojoexcept that theres no other WA that works the same as Giantslayer. You have to hold the button to buff it with wind (which is functionally useless btw), and hold it *further* to do the actual attack.

1:35 Kanata is usually pretty blind on items but she spotted the storm ruler right away this time lol. If she didn’t spotted it and help agro yhorm onion knight could have lived, so it’s just pretty unfortunate for tamanegi-san and us. I think onion knight’s last dialogue willl make Kanata cries since she’s so invested in the lore but we can’t see her reaction now ahhhhhh
I swear Kanata's blind direction is worse than Polka lol, she was getting lost so many times in this game even when there is only a straight line to go, or forgetting to get an item right front of her right away once she got distracted. But nonetheless i love her adventure spirit, for example her passion on learning lore and hoarding scattered items (even when she won't use them most of the time) resembles on how a true souls player play. Also glad chat always help her to gather items or find some places she missed out previously after clearing the area..
Honestly, if we're being real about this, this is the best ending Kanata could've gotten for Siegward's questline. Had she used the Stormbringer at the start and kept Siegward alive, he still would've died after Yhorm was defeated, and I don't think Kanata would've enjoyed that as much as avenging him.
