Champion Gundyr is such a fun fight, and one of my favorite examples of boss reuse. The Champ variant has a lot of new moves it uses in addition to its previous moveset which makes it feel like it can match how much stronger you've gotten since you first fought him, IE a skill-check. The way you stumble upon him with the context of where you currently are also adds a lot of intrigue. So despite being a rematch of the tutorial boss, the encounter feels a lot more memorable than the Asylum Demon reskins in DS1 or the random Godrick/Astel clones in Elden Ring.
I love champ because he doesn't have gimmick/ultra power/godly moves or smt, it's just brute raw power from beginning to end, like his second phase is literally "i think i'll try harder". Nergigante from Monster Hunter World is similar to him as well..
@@LazzyVamples I would give Morgott points if you couldn't just randomly stumble unto Margit again in Altus Plataeu, which ruins the surprise of Morgott later on. It's the same thing with the Mohg clone in the sewer. It cheapens the encounters you have with him. When you encounter Dragonslayer Armor in the Ringed City, it felt like a cool surprise since bosses are rarely reused. But in, ER boss reskins are way too frequent which gives the feeling of trying to pad the open world with stuff. If you only found Morgott in Stormveil and Leyndell, it would be just like with Gundyr and I'd love it, but like Astel you can just find him roaming the open world and suddenly he feels less special.
@@leithaziz2716 To be fair to Morgit, it's not that you stumble randomly upon him. If you follow the proper path laid out, you will enter the city gates next to his spawn point (a random hollow that becomes possessed). And it's supposed to be the reminder that he's still onto you wrecking things, which then gets the pay-off inside Leyndell with the reveal that he's Morgott. Of course, with Elden Ring being open world they completely shot themselves in the foot there, but the intent is there.
@@leithaziz2716 To be honest I never ran into the wandering noble Margit fight until after beating the game so to me the fact that you can easily miss him there it doesn't necessarily cheapen his fights to me especially since I think it's a funny way of punishing the player for mindlessly killing Wandering nobles by that point in the game since they don't offer you anything worthwhile for killing them by that point and in universe is just kinda malicious and bandit like to do so at that strength.
Reminds me of the time a streamer got tutorial-Gundyr's parry windows down first try during his first ever souls game run. The veteran "coaching" him was furious because he was such a natural.
Pretty cool on Kanata's part. Champion Gundyr is my favorite fight in DS3. His second phase is fast and relentless, and he has so many different follow-ups and flows between attacks depending on how you move. I actually prefer to fight him without parrying because even though he almost never stops attacking, some of his attacks have enough wind-up for you to weave in an attack between your dodges. He's also not afraid to use punches, kicks and shoulder checks, which I think is awesome.
Not that super difficult surprisingly. It took me a week but definitely someone like Kanata would probably get it in less time if they purely dedicate themself to Malenia.
Chundyr is a great fight. You fight him corrupted at the beginning, having literally been impaled. And he's easy, your introductory boss to the game, tough enough to beat up a newbie, but nothing complicated. Then you reach Chundyr and you're fighting him at he's supposed to be, then he proceeds to beat the false sense of security out of you.
Gundyr with the people's elbow! I see Kanata does the common mistake of not understanding the parry system in panic. She parries, starts attacking, starts moving, kicks. Or alternatively, parries, starts attacking, misses the riposte window due to not allowing the riposte prompt to activate. The trick is to parry, chadwalk into their face, R1 on neutral. Or just two-hand double charge R2
And also she was unaware parry timing in DS3 is way earlier than DS1, hence why she often did the parry when Gundyr's attack almost hit her, and failed the parry.
@@irvancrocs1753 Parrying in 3 after playing DS1 throws many people off for understandable reasons. The parry in 1 was active on frame 1, so you could do it instinctively. But since parry in DS3 is only active from around frame around 8 it's much harder to use it reactively. This makes parries less OP, but also makes them feel akward to use. I actually don't know if I like them this way. This is why using the Katana parry can feel easier, since you can time the parry to when you press the button, and it feels more consistent.
@@leithaziz2716 Yeah Kanata herself was also struggling to timing it right until she gets the hang out of it, that's why her chat always tell her not to bother parrying normal enemies because it ain't worth it in this game (Except for knight enemies) unlike in DS1. Also she actually almost give up completely on parrying enemies until she met Champ Gundyr here, and start practice it again..
I was looking for this comment. Thank you. Yes, Disrespect was EXACTLY my thought when she pulled that off. Not intentional, but what a damn flex. I'd have shed a tear if she lost the fight after that feat.
The parry shields still make it much more lenient, and I think off-hand Caetus is still like almost instant parry frames. Still fairly difficult if you aren’t knowledgeable of the move set. I’m glad parrying wasn’t a one and down deal in Elden Ring, but wasn’t taken as an option either.
Well, I guess it's good to have option ? You can deal with him without using parry at all if you want the full package but if you don't, you have the parry to trivialize the fight. Well, I said "trivialize" but pulling parry after parry consistantly isn't exactly a trivial affair...
Man that's fucking lazy. Lets just reuse the exact same boss but give him higher numbers so that he's "more of a challenge". Brilliant game design right there folks.
Chat: "you can parry him"
Kanata: *jazz music stop* "really? "
Kanata: *equips shield with malicious intents*
Gundyr : "I've given thee courtesy enough. Rrraaargh! Now I fight as Gundyr! Champion!"
*Equip parry shield*
Gundyr : "I would like to apologize."
"Thy strength befits an onion helmet..."
1:10 The moment Kanata hear/read those words.
"You can parry that boss."
The humanoid boss back somehow starting to sweat.

Chat: You can parry him
Katana: *neuron activation*
She parry like a true dark souls veteran 🗿
Champion gundr is one of the cool rematch boss for me it's like the game is testing you if can beat him at his best
Perfect Parry Tenshi
I love Kanata's play-style. Just parrying anything that she can. She really comes off as cool whenever she does it.

which streamer was that and where there clips?
The return of parry fist kanata

Has Kanata not played Elden Ring?
Not yet

"You can parry this boss"
Most people, "There's no fucking way I'm doing that."
Kanata, "There's an easy mode?"
3:52 that was a beautiful drink.
1 hit wonder was epic
3:53 unintentional disrespect
Love this boss, hyper aggressive with a ton of moves. Kanata did pretty damn well here!

I love how Gundyr move-canceled into a charge right at the end there, because that's fair =P
The simple fact that Kanata like souls-like games brings me joy. She's a true gamer
That KICK interaction while attacking also annoys me so much during my DS 3 days.
I'm glad Kanata got to experience the same thing every first time DS3 player does.
Which is getting kicked in the face by Champion Gundyr lmao
Parry God Kanataso
This reminds me of ymfah's flawless Lv1 parry-fest against Champion Gundyr. She's not there yet, but definitely has the skills to be!
My sl1 run I parried for the first time. It took like 5 hours because I'm terrible at it but I parried him every hit until he died. Super satisfying.
I remember PVPing with that halberd. Nobody could dodge the Gundyr Pain Train.
Chugs an estus before delivering the riposte. Now that's disrespect!
I was looking for this comment. Thank you. Yes, Disrespect was EXACTLY my thought when she pulled that off. Not intentional, but what a damn flex. I'd have shed a tear if she lost the fight after that feat.
Ahhhh my favorite anime, Darkest Dungeon Parry Angel Kanata
fajnie było walczyć z nim po raz drugi
plin plin plon
yo, good fight!
3:52 that's disgusting. parry drink estus then ripost? awesome.
lmao i saw that live and try to rewind but forgot i cant 😂
this fight honestly before i knew it was parriable I spent over 10 tries. once I found out it was parriable 2 tries.
champion gundyr is a super fun boss fight, but parrying him sadly makes him easy mode
Somewhat true, allthough I find doing a parry-only attempt a lot of fun.
Parry timing in ds 3 much harder than ds 1 tho

Ok I don't think kana tan is the best person to base my dark souls 3 playthrough on for tough bosses 😂
Would be cool to see them rework the Champ to take multiple parries for a riposte, like some bosses in Elden Ring. He's a really fun fight.
Not gonna lie, I had to cheese him
parryable boss = easy
Smol vtuber
Shes good at parry, i just ignore that move and play dodge soul instead 😂 mybe i play it again think dex build without magic will be fun
Please, somebody, tell her button mashing is not the way to go ! You can't do critical if you button mach !
Yamete kudasai kkkkkk
Чувствую себя полным ничтожеством, потому что часа 2 гундира убивал

Parrying ruins this fight, imho
spoilers
Not many people are aware that you won't do a crit attack if you keep spamming the attack. Wait half a second, then do it.
the parry that she does naturally is not this easy.
he uses lots of unparryable attack. and his range is insane. I died like 80 times. fr fr
