I'm 80 yrs young and waiting years for a bloom does not make me a happy gal. So hearing about this multiflora gives me hope that maybe I'll live long enough to see one bloom. Thanks for the tip.
Get a Bella! They bloom all the time. Or a Krohniana. Not even the splashy or variegated ones. The plain green Bella or Krohniana. Also Burtoniae tends to bloom really easily.
Hoya Fitchii, Hoya Caudata Sumatra, Hoya Rebecca and Hoya Icencis were Hoyas that also bloomed easily for me within their first year of growth since they were a cutting. Just in the windowsill, no fuss. (Hoya Patella pink and Hoya Cutis Porcelana are also very easy bloomers, but those were in my tent)
Heck yes! Best bloomer that I have for year-round buds. Each peduncle goes again and again, once mature. After arrival first cycles blasted as expected. No smell on mine either and also from California. Another good point is upright growth habit. I've got mine in a hanging basket, but next spring it is going into terra cotta and down onto the floor (no pets). Love the one hoya at a time video...but wow 400 plants! Must be a challenge with your cold temps too. Great video, cool as a cucumber! Have a great weekend, and do an unboxing for your new cool plants!
@@shirleycovey7309 yeah it’s grown so much over the summer it has huge peduncles working from one that has only one flower left, one that’s almost ready to open and one me that’s getting bigger with it just returning white a fourth that’s just green and the last one is just an inch long. It’s new with the last set of three leaves
I really appreciated this video! I'm looking to get another couple of Hoya and not sure what to try. I may wait until spring, though, since I live in the high mountain desert 🏜️
I've had quite a few leaves on mine turn yellow and fall off. I think the key in the lighting, as you said. You've given me hope to have a fuller, happier Multiflora! 💚 Yours is so pretty 🤗
I love my multiflora. I thought it was turning yellow because of the soil…. Hmmm. But i did put it outside in a shaded area and it rebounded beautifully. Maybe it was both? I will have to check where I put it when I brought it in

Thank you for being so detailed. I got mine a couple months ago and it’s doing well, but hasn’t bloomed again. When it arrived from CA it was full of blooms, I’m in FL and I have it on the porch for light morning sun. I’ll make sure to fertilize next watering.
I'm sure it won't be long! You've got a lot going for you just by being in Florida. Gosh it's been a long time since I was there.... Grew up in Sarasota.
Great timing for me. I just got a multi flower and have no idea how to take care of it. Thanks for all the information. I will change it to your substrate mix.
I got it and it developed a peduncle with in two months. In four months it bloomed three times. Mine likes to stay moist. My app has me watering more than once in ten days. I know most people don’t like plant apps but it helps remind me to check my plants and then choose to water or not. With the multiflora I water when it says and it’s near constant blooming.
Should have bought one but maybe in the Spring. Hoping you will have one available then. My first was a Sunrise which I am trying to save. Overwatered last winter.
I absolutely love my Hoya Multiflora. I’ve got one peduncle that’s almost done, one getting bigger, one that’s just extending the buds and a fourth on that’s just looking like a bump on. The end of the stem. I can’t say enough good things about it. It’s almost two feet tall.
Midas touch for plants! 😂 Love it! I'm not sure about that, but my grandma does say I have the luck with Hoya. I think her and I are about neck and neck with our Hoya collection now, but I have bloomed quite a few more than she has. She finally got her first blooms a month or two ago and she has been collecting much longer than I have. I think it really ticked her off when she gave me my first Hoya (just an Heirloom Carnosa) which was a cutting off her plant and I got mine to bloom. Her's still hasn't. Like you said at the beginning of your video, it took about 5yrs for it to bloom for me though. She's also tried seeds and no luck there. I currently have over 500 seedlings I am tending to.🤣 I've been up to my eyeballs uppoting them this week.
@@soberplantguy Yeah... It was my first time trying to grow Hoys from seeds. I obviously had no self control. 🤦🏼♀️ 🤣 I also didn't think I would have great success germinating and/or keeping such small plants alive, but I really haven't had very many losses. So, here I am.
Hi Dave, You did it, a video on multiflora. I commented yesterday that I want one. On my wish list. I calked then shooting stars, now I see that they look like comets. Thanks for the info. Happy weekend
100% on not recommending carnosa to our new victims. They get bored and frustrated waiting for them to bloom and there are other Hoyas with extra eye catching foliage if we were to base a recommendation on that alone. Polyneura for example! And no trellis needed! Get them hooked first! ( not a mermaid joke ) I found caudata fast, with a crazy growth habit, and wow factor early blooms. Climate, conditions similar to yours. Thanks Dave! 😊
Ooooh I regret giving my multi flora away back in June😢. I saved a small piece from it but considering how slow the other hoyas are putting out peduncles or blooms those blooms would be a joy right now! Dee
At least if you decide to add it back into your collection, it won't be difficult to track a nice one down. I've seen the variegated versions and (as you can imagine) ... shrug.
I have a lonely one prop cutting lol, there looks to be a peduncle forming which will probably blast. I Switched it to my chunky mix and it has taken off! It’s one of my favorites. 💫 I can’t remember if Wildferns queen has bloomed yet and she’s had at at least 5 years!
Thanks Dave, I will have to keep my eye out for one of these especially if it has more than one flowering 👍 just installed the photone app - interesting. My first Hoya going into terracotta is going to be my undulata that has just arrived, I’m terrified of it getting root rot. The grower told me to just water half the pot at a time 😬😬
Can't say I've ever, or ever will, water half the pot (not that you asked). Sounds like an excellent way to dry rot a root system. But hey, that's me. To the multiflora, I'm sure you will love it. And it doesn't "look" like a Hoya, which may confuse your family and friends 🤣
Oh, sure. It just washes away the salt and mineral build up from the fertilizer. I'm in now way religious about it because I generally thoroughly water through my plants anyway. But every so often I use straight up water. Cheers from Iowa City
This one is still on my wish list! I don’t care what anyone says, the blooms look like dragons to me (but then I do love dragons lol). Like the “light fury” on How to Train Your Dragon 3.

I would agree that it's getting too much light. I have mine back from an east window, and quite far beneath a soltech pendant light. I think it's only getting something like 80 PPFD there. Quite low light, for a Hoya.
Interesting, I like the plant spotlight! And I recently ordered online a variegated multiflora. I was disappointed to unbox one that's really dull with pathetic variegation. I'm hoping it will become more vibrant, bc I really like the plant. So, I've been thinking of horticultural oil, which is pricey, to give a bit of shine, but saw online that all it is is mineral oil.
