Great video, I have seen the way John uses his, I too had to modify it as well, I can not put the tourniquet around my waist so i feed it through my belt loops as far as i can go.
You really can't argue with the price and practicality of the RATS. I have had mine for a while. Stopped carrying it for one week. This past week we had three Deputy Involved Shootings in my county. One of which a deputy saved his life with a tourniquet. Needless to say, I'm carrying it again.
@@davidblack9071 it can be applied to singe handedly but yes it's difficult on the leg. I would agree it fits better on thinner people and small children ect. I think the only thing going for it is that people would be more likely to actually carry it since it's so compact.
Silat Guy the whole reason to apply it with one hand is that you are applying it to yourself. So you are wounded. You have to pass it around your arm several times... then you have to secure it to it’s cleat. All without letting go. In this video homeboy moved his arm around the tourniquet. You never see his securing it.

Great video. Recently bought this tourniquet in orange because it works on children. It’s a depravity almost all (every single one I’ve seen so far) first aid kits don’t have kid friendly materials. Maybe one day they’ll worry about making kid friendly kits. In the mean time I modify them myself.
Just so you know, a reason you might not want to preloop the rats is self application on a limb that is partially amputated. That is one of the great things about a rats tourniquet, along with wider range of limb sizes it can be applied too. Little kids to adults....

KommBat if you’re sitting down or standing up your should be able to reach around yourself to access it. If you can’t access your equipment bc of your clothes then perhaps reconsider your load out. Since they’re so cheap you could even keep one within reach of your drivers seat that you just leave in your car all the time.

None so far, it does exactly as you said in preventing your garment from snagging on the cleat of the tourniquet during your draw! (I’ll show some footage of my draw stroke in an EDC update in a few weeks)

I'm Not sold on the RATs-TQ at this time. I get the impression..it's "gimmicky"..( I may use it as the second or third choice to the proven C.A.T. or S.O.F.-T) I'm comfortable with the C.A.T. and S.O.F.T...tested in combat, and extensive training applications (avg: 10-20 secs), easy to pack, light weight, durable..and can work them in tight work space, day or night, rain or shine. ***May you show tests with the RATs, under these conditions***
Hot Shot so is the SOFT-W but it actually works, is used in every theater of war since it’s development, is CoTCCC recommendation, has an NSN, and isn’t a complete piece of dangerous hot garbage.

I've owned a rats for a while but kept it In my range bag. I as well as my both my sisters were at rt91 in Vegas our group made it out safely, thank God. I now carry the rats on me and have one in all my vehicles.

As a combaf medic from 2012-2019 we didn't like these. There are numerous issues in use. Get a cat or sof t. , Israeli bandage, and combat guaze. Those 3 will serve you much better in a variety of bloodloss situations. I'm now a detective and police trainer, and have come across many depts using the rat. While those can work, they work in very limited situations and are more prone to failure. I'm still a tc3 instructor and would highly recommend taking a TC3 med course. Go to a national guard base that has a medic section (usually headquarters) and ask if you can attend when they go through their tc3 course. As long as they have a good commander they should have no problem with a civilian attending. We actually encouraged it while I was teaching. You'll learn life safing skills and meet some really nice guys. It sucks you stopped uploading. You have the potential to reach a lot of people, especially as you hone your craft. I like your philosophy and you seem to have a great disposition. Hope you're doing well. God bless from TX.

Yes I would prefer a CAT in most ideal situations but it's not viable as an edc item in sorry. Just not practical. This is decent middle ground and if you practice with it is plenty suitable
It can’t be used single handedly easily or safely it can’t be used on legs. Why would you carry a tourniquet that can only be used on half your limbs. Hard pass.

It was designed for individuals with smaller limbs such as children, dogs, or in the case of my current job, people with serious drug addictions who’s limbs are atrophied so extremely that a more traditional TQ might have trouble winching down property to achieve complete aretieral occlusion. Additionally, it’s smaller and easier to carry and stow on a person, which means someone is more likely to carry it than a CAT or similar. And I would prefer someone rolling up one at least 1 of these, than 0 of anything less. That’s the approach I take to it. I’m not arguing at all that it didn’t get the same approval

TelFiRE I would bet it would be fine so long as it doesn’t prevent you from locking the TQ in the cleat, no hurt in trying in my opinion 🙏🏼😌
