    You can’t force people to play a role. The harsh reality is the majority of players don’t know a damn thing about basketball or how it should be played. That’s the biggest problem in 2k

    • @prestonjones1415
      @prestonjones1415 6 місяців тому +97

      Yes!! That's how it started. A lot of players that had low basketball or 2k iq started paying for attributes and complaining. 2k catered to them instead of saying get better at 2k and learn some basketball

    • @jamiegaskins3687
      @jamiegaskins3687 6 місяців тому +54

      @@prestonjones1415 exactly. It doesn’t matter what build they make, most of these morons are just going to shoot a 3 or force a layup every time they get the ball. 2k tried making us role players already and it changed nothing. Roles in this game are determined by individual play style, not 2K.

    • @prestonjones1415
      @prestonjones1415 6 місяців тому +14

      @@jamiegaskins3687 I agree. Instead of making everyone role players I personally think they should have raised the floor for everyone's defensive abilities. Instead every year they try to adjust shooting and lit players based off of height. As the NBA becomes positionless, so must 2k

    • @jamiegaskins3687
      @jamiegaskins3687 6 місяців тому +13

      @@prestonjones1415 yeah the defense has to be fixed, but I’m sure they’d do it wrong. Their only two solutions for gameplay problems is always: nerf the problem and make it super easy for anybody to do (x), or they just throw in a badge that basically does (x) for you and completely removes any skill from the equation, because heaven forbid they take the time to actually fix the mechanics of the game or anything that would actually improve the product.
      The decline of 2K gameplay started with and because of badges, and that’s a hill I will die on. Badges, combined with a lame and toxic community, ruined the games. The games are actually a ton of fun if you play offline, or in person with friends. It’s not hard to figure out why that is.

      That’s not true, I’ve never played organized ball, I have limited knowledge of the rules and yet I’m in the top 100 MyTeam players in the world and on a ProAM team with a 97% win rate. (I’ll be fair and say I get carried in ProAM, I shoot 81% but beyond that I’m not doing a ton.)
      I can jump in a 92 and under game for fun and totally blow out an entire team single handed.
      2K is a game you can learn to manipulate, it doesn’t require extensive basketball knowledge, just some common sense.

    it’s not just 2k. online gaming as a whole went from people playing games to have fun to everybody trying to be the sweatiest most try-hard player possible. e-sports and youtube / social media did irreversible damage to games. as soon as a game comes out it’s a million “content creators” showing people how to abuse every exploit possible to cheat at the game

    • @prestonjones1415
      @prestonjones1415 6 місяців тому +50

      I don't think online gaming was the issue. The issue came when tbe companies began catering to low IQ players because of micro transactions. 2k was a true sim game, instead of changing the game to make players better, they should've challenged players to become better and learn the game. Instead they started boosting attributes and badges year to year

      @@prestonjones1415 i’ve been playing 2k since the first one and it had certain cheesy overpowered mechanics in it at least far back as about 2k6 - 2k7. it didn’t truly become an issue until 2k17 when they added archetypes and the rise of 2k “content creators” around 2k16. it’s no different than how broken mike vick was in madden 04 or bo jackson in tecmo bowl. just now there’s a million people trying to find every exploitable mechanic in the game to promote on their channel and the millions of people learning said exploit from them.
      the worst thing to ever happen to the game was shots that are greened being automatic makes. that’s nowhere near realistic and it resulted in people being able to make low rated shooters but can hit a three if they green it.

      it's the money being randomly being poured in seemingly outta nowhere
      it's not the fact that people go out of their way to show these things, they've been doing that forever
      it's because the biggest cash prize goes to the person who can figure out the systems and show as many people as possible first to ensure the most monetary gain
      if the money stayed in only the pro scene it wouldn't be that big of a problem but since the everyday average joe could potentially cash out with 1 lucky video and be set for life, everyone and their mother's doing it

    One very frustrating thing about 2K is that you often seem to have no control over what your player is doing. Going up for a dunk? Nope, you lost the animation game and are gonna blow a layup instead. Other player has good passing badges? You're frozen and can't move to close out. Catch a pass within 10 feet of the sideline? You're running out of bounds for no reason. Slightly moving when your PG passes the ball? You're getting pulled 25 feet from where you started. The game just constantly takes control out of your hands, usually because of some badge they never bother to fully explain the effects of.

      You can go up for a dunk nearly every time if you use the skill dunk meter. Bad catches are a result of making tough passes with players who have low passing ratings. Sounds like you just have a big fat skill issue.

    • @JojiUrHomie
      @JojiUrHomie 6 місяців тому +30

      @@thebigmanufacturerokay but for one not everyone has time to put in to master the timing for their dunk meters. Also what about trying to go for a layup with the stick and instead the game decides you actually wanted to take a pull up middy directly in someone’s face. Or the other way around you actually want the middy and they go for some shitty ass layup instead. Play perfect positioning on defense and jump at the proper time but still get sucked into a shitty posterizer animation

    I've always felt like there''s actually kind of a simple solution here - split single player mode from multiplayer altogether. They clearly want to have archetypes and stuff for multiplayer but also want you to be able to make the best player ever for single player mode. Splitting those things up so that single player mode has no cap (and doesn't take tons of money or 8 seasons to become good) and multiplayer has achetype limits and set abilities fixes these problems pretty easily. The issue is just that they can't load the game with micro transactions if they do that.

      Even IF you spend the dozens of hours fixing and balancing everything, it's all undone by one off-season. The badges are out of control. Ratings out of control. The stats make no sense. It's honestly painful to play MyNBA.
      I switched to primarily MyTeam after 2k20. It's still broken but all the cards are somewhat equally broken.
      They just need to split the game into three vs trying to design a one-size-fits-all game. MyCareer, MyTeam and MyNBA/Eras are just too different.

      Although in defense of the Pistons ratings: you can't simulate coaching as bad as Monty Williams.
      Under an average coach they would probably be like 18-29. Duren, Bogdanovic and Cade should all probably be around 80 and Ausar gets close.

      @@superQman600 I've watched every game this season. He's horrendous.
      He didn't realize he should let Jaden Ivey have the ball until the GM had to sit him down halfway through the season. Huh?
      The roster, when healthy, is fine. It doesn't fit any worse than Orlando. You actually don't have to put Killian Hayes and Ausar on the same side while Cade runs a pick and roll into 4 guys. Dallas doesn't even do that with Luka, he gets the ball on the move and they run multiple actions. Hell two games ago he was still running Cade into a brick wall.
      Monty didn't start coaching until game 30 at best. He didn't realize you could have multiple actions or run a Spain pick and roll until December. They literally switched *every* screen for about a month. Every screen. "Hey opposing team. Want our first defender on your best player? Ok!! Here you go"
      The GM had to trade Isaiah Livers just so Monty couldn't play him. It took him 46 games to realize Killian Hayes is bad. To realize what everyone else knew *THREE* years ago.
      Look maybe when he's engaged and cares and has Chris Paul he's fine -- although the Suns reddit would disagree -- but he didn't even attempt to coach the team for months. He has been that bad.

The pie chart system made you choose one thing to be great at, or two things to be good at. It made the game feel more balanced, you had to play more within your role and what you're good at. Member of the Sim Nation here. I actually never thought of that but it makes perfect sense. Normally I play all kinds of games. From Battle Royale to MMO to Souls-like. In all the games I play, NBA 2K is the only game I don't PVP. I tried it and I just didn't like it but I always thought it was because I used to play ball in real life and all I wanted was to play like the team's real life counterparts.
    And now Kofie laid it all out to me I can see why. Because I never looked at NBA 2K's PARK/REC as what they are, PVP games. I'm having the most fun playing Franchise mode and playing CPU because I can run plays and I can do what I actually see in the NBA.
    Since they've already had letter grades and actual numbers for player's ratings, maybe they can split the game up and use only the letter grades for PVP games (Park/REC games) and then balance both side of the game with badges (so they worth more in PVP, for example). Just my two cents, I dont know if it'd work and if it's super hard to implement but coming from a lot of MMO communities I've always find the balancing between pve/pvp challenging for devs.

    I think 2K's only way out is fixed player builds or maybe something like what EA does in CHEL where you have a badge limit of 4 with only one being your X-Factor. Then reset the build of anyone who gets too extreme in their ratings like 92 speed, 93 agility, and 93 accel at the expense of 80 balance, 79 slapshot accuracy, etc. Only problem is I don't think 2K is willing to sacrifice the VC that's being spent on these builds and would rather choose profit over gameplay balance.

With that being said, 2k gave us a game mode similar to what we have all been asking for. We just won't go to it because, it's The W. And as the community we want to dunk, and be men. They are all KD and carmelo builds. The guards are all kobe, and curry builds. Nobody plays their roles. The 90+ 3ball shooters slash all game. And the pure slashers clog paint all game. Resulting in massive turnovers because no spacing. I actually like this game compared to previous years. This is so accurate. 2K uses the fact that voice chat exists to justify not showing you what your teammates are, but the difference between voice chat and real life is violence. You don't have to worry in 2K that you're gonna be punched in the face for the stupid corny shit you wanna pull. There is a general understanding when people can reach out and touch you that your actions are going to dictate whether or not that happens... so act accordingly. If 2K would just tell everyone what the teams make up was *badges and attys quickly before each game you would have a better chance. Also, if their report and ban system was better the community would be better.

If they replaced the Rec with a mode similar to the eLeague locked mode, new players would be able to play the game online, casual players can jump onto the game throughout the year, and competitive players have a better way to compare themselves because everyone has the same limited options. It would also allow 2k to balance the game more effectively and control the state of the meta.
    At the very least, they could give us pre-builds we can use in the park. Even if they are unoptimized, players wouldn't be required to pay money to have a usable build.

    Honest patch notes and being able to re-spec your attributes would solve this issue almost entirely.

    I just bought my first NBA 2K game (24) when it was sale for the holidays. All I have touched is franchise, and I have got to say that I've had a blast. Going back to 1991 and playing with Peyton and Kemp has been outstanding.
    All this online play? Nah, I'm out man. I'm just gonna chill here in franchise mode and enjoy my team building vs the CPU

    My biggest complaint is how many layups these guys miss during games. It can be a open lane to the basket and a player just smokes a clear cut lay up.

    Thank you for SPEAKING UP !!! I hate what the overall presentation of the brand has become. More focus on the fluff around the game and less focus on the actual oncourt gameplay and interaction.

    damn i don’t play overwatch, but that was a hell of a connection to the problems facing 2k. i can say as a primary mycareer guy, i would just like to have the magic of like a 2k11-2k13 back, i know it’s not happening because more people are in the park but FUCKK, it would just be cool for them to seperate them like the wnba mode
