  • Using ForScan to program additional Keys for the 99-04 Mustang when you don't have two keys. This video will show erasing all existing keys and programming 2 new keys using the software.
I later add a 3rd key via the easier procedure outlined in the owners manual for when you already have 2 programmed keys.
You will need ForScan, with extended license and a way to interface the vehicle via OBD2 port.

Next time try cycling cycling the ignition 8 times and on the 8th time leave it on the on position at that point the doors will unlock and unlock and then press any of the four buttons on the remote you want to program and it should work

I did this to my 00 Lincoln town car. . . With no working key's. I removed the ignition switch on my car and a parts car that had a key. .. . Took the replacement transponder keys to home Depot and had them cut to match the ignition switch. ($.99 each). Then programed them using for scan+ the OBD2 / USB adapter that has the switch on it.. ( the non switchable type will not work for PATS ) .

I tried adding a key, and I got a message that the " PATs Programming Failed", it said it had only 4 keys stored the owner's manual said you could program up to 8. I'm scared to erase all the keys (I have 1 that works) do you have any thoughts?

Any chance you are selecting “ignition key programming” rather than “erase and program keys”? at 6:15.
Could also be communication issues with ForScan, the computer and the vehicle. You need the USB interface that can be switched between HS-can and MS-can. The non-switchable type will not work for PaTS as another commenter has pointed out.
I agree, it’s definitely intimidating doing this because you don’t know if it will work. I can only say have a backup plan in place like calling a locksmith and doing it when it’s most convenient for that.
And you are correct you can program up to 8 but I would plan to just use ForScan to program the first 2 and then program the rest using the method in the owners manual.

If you have two working programmed keys, you don’t need to use ForScan at all to program. You can do the procedure I show around 9:20 that’s in the owners manual. It’s much quicker and easier to make extra keys this way when you have two already.

I tried this on my 03 mustang, with the same adapter that you have, but it keeps telling me "Unable to connect to vehicle. Please make sure the ignition is ON and try again."
    Any advice?

Are you able to connect to any Ford vehicle using it? You also need to make sure the HS/MS-can switch is in the correct position when you make your initial connection to the vehicle. If it's switched the wrong way, you will also get that same error. If it's not that, it may be a driver issue.
