Early on you wondered why there were 60 people when the introduction said 51. It's because there is the Captain, 51 crew and 8 passengers. That's not a spoiler but I don't believe it is explicitly said in the game at all.
Enjoy the video guys! Obviously, I ask for NO SPOILERS or even hints in the comments, please let me figure stuff out by myself so that this remains a true blind playthrough! Please also note that due to the pixelated look of the game, the quality of the video ended up being pretty bad after rendering, despite my best efforts to correct this.... I'm really sorry about that!
A couple quick non-spoiler tips: First, multiple fates can be correct. The game is fairly forgiving, so please don't stress about it. For example, in this episode we saw the game mark correct that Abigail Hoscutt was crushed by a terrible beast. In my own playthrough I marked that she was crushed by rigging, and that was also correct. Whenever it is ambiguous, probably all the options that seem like they could be correct, the game will accept them as correct. Second, I've seen a number of Let's Players become annoyed at following the ghost trail thing, since it can take a circuitous route. I may be misremembering, but I think you only have to keep it in frame to see where it goes, and not actually need to follow it along every twist and turn.
Oh that multiple fates thing is actually very good to know, because I was wondering about that, like sometimes a death could kinda be described multiple ways so I was wondering if there was just the one correct answer or if the game was a bit more forgiving, so good to know!
It's also really funny that "Abigail was clubbed by a beast" is also a viable option accepted by the game, considering the kraken was holding the rigging when it crushed her 😂
One tip (not a hint, just a gameplay explanation) I haven't seen anyone else give: 1:16:40 the "unknown passenger" is simply there so you can label a face without specifying the individual. There's one for every "occuation" on the ship. So for example if you believe someone is an officer because of their hat, you could label them "unknown officer" until you've narrowed it down. The reason number 19 is missing on the list, is because that was Abigail, the captains wife, whom you've already correctly identified.
Very excited for this playthrough. The vocabulary used in this game is very specific, so if you don't know any particular thing, I highly encourage you to check the in-game glossary, and even just use the internet to search for the definition of particular words. For example, the island of Formosa is mentioned, which doesn't exist in present-day because it now goes by the name Taiwan. Things like that. Edit: Just as a fun bit of trivia, "Formosa" comes from the Portuguese, who referred to the island as "Ilha Formosa" ("Beautiful Island"). There are certainly worse things to have your country named by foreigners.
*eyes roughly 7-8 hour LP* Either you edited down parts, or wow... You are good at this. Time to find out! 1:24:12 Oh you did Ghost Trick too? I know what I'll be watching after this series. :) EDIT 2: Aw, not yet. Though you do have Inscryption as well as a start on Papers Please. So I still have a place to go next. :D
Definitely edited down! Tried to keep only the most entertaining parts for you guys! Haven't played Ghost Trick yet sadly, but hoping to get to it at some point!
In a devlog, Lucas Pope said he wanted at least 80 people but couldn't figure out how to fit that many into the narrative. A more realistic minimum for the obra dinn is about 120 people.
Lmaoooo wtf. It took me until the last chapter to determine Henry Evans as the surgeon LMAO. You are amazing. Or maybe I just skip over reading stuff lol!!! 😂😂
So excited for this! There’s a small thing I want to tell you about how this game works (it doesn’t spoil anything but it’s stuff the game doesn’t tell you), but I’ll put it below because I know no spoilers: So first every single character is identifiable in some way without guessing, but I’ve seen very few people get everyone without guessing, the harder ones are ridiculous.
Yay, I've been looking forwards to this series, and so far you're doing awesome! Glad that you're enjoying it, and great commentary as usual. You've probably caught on to this already, but I highly recommend you take your sweet time and do the best you can to get all identities/fates. We can definitely wait, lol. It's SO worth figuring everything out on your own, and I believe you can do it!
Got you recommended because I was looking for nice people playing Obra Dinn for the first time, because I can't. I really like your style and the way you play. It's a joy to watch you enjoy this game. Thanks for sharing the experience! :)
How exciting! I've heard the name of this game here and there. Such an interesting art style and an equally interesting way of figuring out what happened, too. I look forward to more!
I love this game and can’t wait to see reaction to my favourite part of the game. Fun fact: The gender of the person you play as is randomly selected at the start of the game. This was apparently added last minute because of something that the developers daughter said.
Oooh that's a cool little trivia, so I just randomly got the female investigator.... Though I sorta wish I didn't know that, cause I figured maybe my identity was significant or relevant or something, but ah well
Aaaay enjoy the ride! that wink was just for you! ;D It looks pretty alright in general but whenever the screen gets filled with particles/pixels (like when the watch is pointing to another body) then the compression looks pretty bad... I'll try some more ways to fix this in the next episode if I can!
@@LukaelPlays Thaaaanks! This is so wholesome. I had a rough week and this episode honestly made it worth it. The timing of that "jumpscare" at 6:00 is *chef's kiss*. Your editing is so good. I'm enjoying it thoroughly! I'm even gonna go grab some snacks and a beverage of some sort, to kick back and relax properly. Oh yeah, the pixelation is somewhat noticeable on your facecam but not an issue. Now I wonder how others have dealt with it.
Aaah sorry to hear that, but I'm glad if this video can cheer you up a bit. Hope your next week is better! My guess is that other people have more powerful computers and record at a much higher bitrate than I'm able to! I'll try a few things next time to see if it can fix it a bit, but if you say it's not too much of an issue that's reassuring, you know how much of a perfectionist I am! 😭
@@LukaelPlays Technical issues in the first episode is the seal of authenticity for blind playthroughs. You just had no idea what you were in for. This was awesome! So much death and drama discovered in one go. I'm glad you're enjoying the game. I would humbly ask not to cut too much of you banging your head against the wall if the game will ever get harder; as with other games, we've all seen the action sequences and so on, it's your experience that's valuable. Actually I trust your sense of editing, this is gonna be a fantastic game either way! "The squid! Where is my Frenchman?" - just remembered how someone else got confused by this line in their playthrough and thought "the squid" is a nickname for the Frenchman and kept calling him the squid. :D
This game has been on my backlog for a long time, but there are so many other massive games getting put higher on my list right now. I think I'll just watch the playthrough for this one instead of playing myself
The game audio is maybe slightly too loud, when you speak while there is big music it's a bit difficult to hear you, otherwise great episode and can't wait to see more !
Aaaa sorry about that! this game's audio goes from low to pretty loud so it's been a bit hard for me to mix, but I'll try and fix that for future episodes! thank you!

For some reason it didn't seem that some people had multiple fates...interesting

Great to see that people are still playing this game. If there was one game I would want to erase my memory to play again, it would be this one.

This is a very big ship for 60 people. Ship crew works in 3 shifts. There should be over a hundred men aboard.
In a devlog, Lucas Pope said he wanted at least 80 people but couldn't figure out how to fit that many into the narrative. A more realistic minimum for the obra dinn is about 120 people.

Obra Dinn let's go!!! The music is awesome :)

Oh! This game! It's brilliant!
Let's f'ing gooo! Only a minute into the video, already killed by that powerful wink!

understandable! I would highly recommend playing this one for yourself, can probably be done in one or two evenings and you won't regret it!

man that thumbnail made me think you were playing the Curse of Monkey Island 😂
Eheh should I?
Subnautica is great. 10/10 exploration game.
When you start a new game it randomly selects either a female or male voice.
It's a nice touch!
