He nailed his audition with a huge grin on his face. I get that Mike M was a better fit though. Grateful to have seen Marco with Steven Wilson and twice with Aristocrats. He's the real deal.
While we're on the topic of Minnemann, I'd recommend checking out Necrophagist. You honestly can't miss with any of their songs. They're more famous for their guitar work, but their drumming is something like what George Kollias does nowadays.
I've always found Marco to be so fascinating. On one hand it somehow feels messy... but on the other hand it's unbelievably controlled and absolutely on point. In my humble opinion it's what separates him from the rest. It's beyond human skill, preformed by a human.
I did translating for Marco and one of his clinic tours in Taiwan many years ago and I have to say........to see him in person playing at this level was simply......... shocking to say the least.............
This guy definitely has it ALL when it comes to drumming! Some drummers... even professionals who've done it their lucrative careers... have only certain aspects of drumming... enough to get by! But, this guy is certainly the whole package! 🥁💙
Marco is so dang underrated amongst the greats of drumming. He could be in some huge band but instead does what he wants and pursues interesting projects. He was a huge influence for me when I began my percussion journey 20+ years ago when I stumbled upon Jackhammer, and still is today.
I am frpm austria (drummer😅) amd this guy played in a band named "h- bloxx".....in the 90s....this guy was 😣😣😣🎊👈🏻👌🏻.....and now the aristocrates with beller and govan........💦

Nothing less to expect from a guy who played in a band called "freaky fuc☆☆ng weirdowz" And not being selected from dream theater as he out played them
Your Rock N' Roll Ribs t-shirt is pretty cool. Been there three of four times during vacations, met Nicko twice. Awesome place. And yes, the guy is as cool and laid back as you can imagine.
Man this dude has chops and facility for miles I know he also plays Death Metal and you can see the influence The precision the control and the polyrhythms and double bass flourishes add up to killer drumming whatever genre Very cool indeed 🧐✌️🤘
Wow, this brings back memories. I think this DVD was released like 20 years ago now! I think I still have it too! What is there to say about Marco that people don't already know? Just incredible.
I tell you something, back in the day If the Dream Theater drummer audition wasnt staged to pick Mangini, they would totally hire Minnemann, from all the drummers they "tried" he was the most progressive of all
amazing drummer, on top of that too if you listen to his drums with Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree lead singer, he has played with some good drummers hasn't he ) he plays some really simple grooves but the feel is so so so good, like drive home for example
I’ve seen him with Satriani and the aristocrats… dazzling technique. His solos are second to none. Most at ease drummer I’ve ever seen. Makes it look easy if that’s possible
he actually auditioned for Dream Theater at the same time as Mangini. You can actually find his tape with the band on youtube. He's so sweaty at the end of Dance of Eternity...
I have a cd with Minnemann and McStine. Lifeson plays on that. Lifeson and Geddy were supposed to by guests at the Aristocrats last show in Toronto. But there was a family issue with Alex(I think). But they are coming back so who knows. Maybe that guest appearance will take place this time around?? Even if it doesn’t the Aristocrats are phenomenal on their own
There are a couple of videos online documenting Dream Theater auditioning drummers to replace Mike Portnoy. I'm not a big DT fan and don't know their music that well, but I honestly liked Minnemann the most. I think Mike Mangini ultimately got the gig because he wanted it the most, knew their music the best, and was the most committed to dedicating himself to the band entirely.
The man’s insane, but I wasn’t aware that he made a guest appearance on Sesame Street back in the day. His brain operates at a different level. Edit : That kit is tuned to perfection.
I have been watching your channel for a good while now, although I do not play, I appreciate a good drummer when I hear and see one performing their art, I have not seen anyone put three drummers who probable had a great influence on drummers in their time, the first being Aynsley Dunbar, listen to him on the first Journey album on the tracks "Of A Lifetime" and "Topaz" and check out whether he lives up to his reputation, the second and third drummers played with Frank Marino one was the late Jimmy Ayoub who played with Frank and Mahogany Rush, the other might be known to you and his name is Timm Biery the tracks by Jimmy to listen to are "Something's Coming Our Way" or Jimmy Ayoub drum solo in Bromont, Quebec in 1979 with Mahogany Rush. for Timm it's got to be "Ain't Dead Yet" on the album The Power of Rock and Roll where he took over the sticks from Jimmy, see what you think.
Andrew, check out UKZ if you want to hear more Marco. Also, check out the drum tryouts for Dream Theater after Portnoy left. Marco was so close to being in Dream Theater. Of course Mike Mangini got the gig instead. It was a solid choice.
@@DerEchteBold Then it was obviously a waste of everyone's time and money to fly in for the tryouts in the first place. Why bother? Just pick Mike and save the money and logistics.
@@DerEchteBold The DVD's were included with the new album (A dramatic turn of events) that Mike made his initial appearance on. I was more interested in the music and direction of the band post Portnoy not the DVD. I've had that since it was first released and I only recently watched the DVD. I didn't buy the album because it had the DVD included.
@@audibons4 Well, that's quite decent business ethics but I still find it extremely unlikely that this was an actual audition, clearly didn't seem like it towards the end.

Marco, chops, control, and everything from Death Metal band NECROPHAGIST to The Aristocrats. Incredible freak of a drummer 🔥
Shhh, death metal gatekeepers will call him "sLoPpY" in Necrophagist🤣 like MS would hire a sloppy drummer to play stuff like Stabwound 😂

Him and Mangini both.
@svartmetall well, not sure I'm entirely with you when it comes to Mangini! That man isn't human.. feels quite the opposite 😂
Not only is he a great drummer. He’s a great overall musician. He writes and records most of these tracks himself
