These three are all musicians that not enough people talk about regularly. They're all absolute beasts
I dunno, Guthrie's got a huge rep in the guitar world!
Minnerman should have got the DT gig.
From what I understand, he didn't want it... @@markbaston8147
@@markbaston8147 It's still mindboggling that DT decided to hire a drum computer but you can't look back in anger, that road leads to suffering
@@markbaston8147
Haha, I'm sure that was just a publicity stunt, not an audition, they knew from the start who'll they take.
Best band ever, best musicians ever, the amount of fun they have its incredible
Absolutely mind blowing.
New fan here!
I think DT are as good. Petrucci is my guitar god.
@@markbaston8147 Hard to compare as this is a trio. But you could fill the rest of the spots with the members from DT and i'd still disagree. And I love DT.
I could guarantee even Petrucci wouldn't argue that Guthrie is the better guitarist. This man is a literal professor of this stuff. Few people are on this level. (and i'd say this is not guthries best performance by far)
Check out Boing, well do it live!. Best live performance you can see online period.
Anybody remember Cream?
I have seen this quintett (pig and chicken are fulltime band members) last week in Winterbach, Germany. For me the outstanding thing is the level of joy and humor the band has throughout the concert.
Crazy to think that Marco Minnemann was the drummer from Necrophagist at one time, he's so talented and versatile.
Necro..., h-bloxx, paul gilbert etc.
I have just discovered him and quite sad that he did not record album with Necrophagist, I would love to have copy of his work as a death metal fan. Anyway, he is so brilliant!
@@krezemplMuhammed and Marco where going to start a side project at one point too, obviously never happened but imagine that lol
I got to see them live on their first tour in a small bar in texas, it was UNREAL how good they are live.
This is like the elite of the elite. Ive seen these guys twice live and its unreal. Super fun guys they really make the show fun. Rubber chickens on percussion and all
Insane player. I saw these guys play a little club in Iceland. Never seen such talent so close up. Chatted to Marco after the show. Super nice dude. Guthrie is possibly the best guitar player on the planet and Brian is an absolute beast.
I've been lucky enough to see them play in a small club, max. 200 people, THREE times, in Portland Oregon. they bring a huge sense of humor to the show and their music. this year they're playing at even smaller club and I wasn't able to get a ticket. DAMN. best group in the entire WORLD.
I saw them at Mississippi studios just in February. Incredible show
One of the best 5 piece bands around. 😁
My favourite Aristocrats live performance. 👍👍👍👍✌️
My favorite band. I think this is exactly how rock music should be. These guys are amazing
Minnemann is one of the top 5 drummers in the world
I would have Virgil Donati in that 5.
Not for me my friend…
Danny Carey, Gavin Harrison, baard kolstad, bill bruford , buddy rich, and many others before him, he is boring for me
@@daviddevilliers2828 Indeed, they are all great drummers. Mike Portnoy as well.
@@daviddevilliers2828
Check out his performance in mendoza from 2005. :)
k@@daviddevilliers2828
If at all possible, see them live. They are truly musicians musicians. They throw a ton of improv within the framework of their songs. Check out "Blues F**kers" with the solo for Marco goodness.
The most amazing musicians let loose on stage fully enjoying them selves doing what ever they want. Music doesn't get any better than this!
Andrew, You DO need to experience The Aristocrats live; it is an otherworldly experience for sure!
Well, this was timely. Thanks! I'm headed for their concert on the 28th. Really looking forward t it.
Hey Andrew, this is the first time I’ve watched a clip of yours and I love the way you handled this reaction video. Unlike so many others you actually really LISTEN to the song and the whole composition without interrupting every five seconds. The main part of your analysis came after you digested the whole performance, in my opinion that’s the only way to give a proper analysis like you did. I really enjoyed watching your reaction, thanks for taking the time to listen to these amazing musicians.
Thank you so much!
Very kind words
I loved seeing them live, but also so grateful for the live concert videos. Each of them does so many wonderful little live things that can be appreciated with repeated viewings.
Marco may be my favorite drummer I've seen-live. Neal Pert was so great live but it felt more like he was trying to get the notes as close to perfect without making any mistakes.
It seems like Marco would gladly take any technical risk to connect with Guthrie, Brian, and the audience. More often than not-the result is magic and :) :) :) :)
I strongly recommend seeing the Aristocrats live. They play intimate settings. Great crowd(lots of music nerds), great vibe.
lucky me saw them a week ago... man, this concert was pure magic and phenomenal! If You ever get the chance to see the Aristocrats live: DON'T MISS THEM!!!
I can't recall how many times I've been blown away on this channel but you can definitely add this to the list. Simply wow.
Unreal isn't it?
That pig and chicken thing had to be the most game changing/boundary pushing thing about this. The other stuff was pretty mind blowing as well.
Hahaha loved the pig chicken part. Awesome musicianship, just brilliant indeed. Andrew😀👍
I love when serious musicians don’t take themselves too seriously. Similar approach with Zappa/Knower/Aquarium Rescue Unit.
I'm so incredibly happy to see ARU getting love. So so good
Marco auditioned for Dream Theater a decade ago. Nearly got the gig too. He is the real deal.
it takes a legend to go to a dream theater audition wearing a cookie monster t-shirt
Glad he did not get the job but decided to start The Aristocrats! And Dream Theater is my favorite band...
He did get the gig but turned it down soon after
@@garycartwright4860 Well, technically he did not get the gig. Maybe the band was interested and offered the gig to him (we don't know). But they likely had the condition that their new drummer is dedicating his activities to Dream Theater alone, without side projects as Mike Portnoy had. But that's not Marco Minnemann. He is too creative to just dedicate himself to one single band. By that time The Aristocrats were already "in the planning". I would not exclude that he refused such conditions from the DT camp. But in the end that's history. Mike Portnoy is back in Dream Theater.
He would have had the skills easily, it was for some other reason he didn't fit the band.
Simply three of the best listeners in the business.
Oh, and the cats can PLAY, too!!! 🙏
100
Saw them live in Montreal with my wife two years ago and they are insane, they had a new track they played inspired by EDM and it blew my mind, love these guys.
Your reaction at 8:25 was lovely. The Aristocrats deserve the episode, they are incredible. Saw them live, superb.
Glad you enjoyed it. I was feeling that HARD
I saw Marci & Guthrie playing as part of Steven Wilson's band in 2015,simply jaw dropping.
It is one of my alltime favorite concerts.
Was lucky enough to see both Guthrie and Minnemann with Steven Wilson, unreal musicians.
Saw them live a few years back. Utterly insane. And yes, they have a lot of very silly jokes in their music which helps keep it grounded.
Andrew , phenomenal, Awsome to watch how much you are impressed and appreciate, understand the quality of musicianship.
They are a force of nature ..
Fantastic as ever Andrew .
The aristocrats are the greatest jazz/metal trio of all time. Seen them live twice and yes Andrew, you do need to see them also
Just went to a concert in my home town in Sweden...so glad I did....absolutely amazing. World class.
They should have recorded it..
Pocket de-luxe 👌
FREAKING love this!
Back in the day I was in the middle of a mosh-pit and some guy from the band threw out some CDs for the audience. I caught it and it was an Arisocrats CD.
This is how I discovered their genius and to this day I always wonder why a metal band in a totally different continent would be throwing this kind of music into the crowds?
Anyway, I'm kinda glad they did this band is phenomenal! Not only are they a three-piece but, like you said Andrew, they cycle through ALL different genres effortlessly while toying around and having a blast. 10/10
These guys are amazing. They did two gigs two hours from my house and I couldn't drag myself to either one. Next time...
A fellow drummer and Knight Rider fan! :)
The video is so well directed....amazing and enjoyable
So glad the aristocrats are getting some love! I have seen them live twice. Masters of their crafts
I had the luck of seeing them live. What an experience! They are funny and playful and completely, absolutely incredible.
Not sure if you know this about these guys, but they do not use any over dubbing or any other type of electronic smoke and mirrors. Also Marco doesn't use any electronics other the mics. Their whole concept is to bring pure music to the stage. They also just have a lot of fun when they play,,.
Guthrie is more in touch with his instrument than any guitarist I've ever seen. Like Hendrix, though, his skill and feeling for the guitar are best displayed when he has a bassist and drummer who can attain the same levels. A real maestro.
Marco has a truly incredible drum solo with lots of drumstick tricks in the song Blues F'ers live version.
In Finland in that tour people had those kind of pigs and hens to be a part of the show! 😆
They knew what was coming...
Fantastic musicians! Creative and playful. Don't take themselves too seriously. But their level of musicianship is just awesome.
Thought I recognized the bassist. He also plays in Dethklok. Brendan Small up there playing with monsters
Unbelievable
If you hear Guthrie’s contributions on Steven Wilson albums it is incredibly sensitive and stunning - but he can also play live with Hans Zimmer’s orchestral shows and you can see Hans adores Lord Guthrie Gandalf of Essex
I second and third the "Blues F***ers" suggestion. "Get it Like That" shows their synergy as a band, but the "BF" solo by Marco is next level. Also - some of Marco's compositions are incredible. Try "Drum for Your Life"
Lol.. the movie clip.
Mr. Han, you come right out of a comic book.
One of the great films!
What a band!
Saw them last Wednesday here in Germany!
Great musicians that had a lot of fun on stage…😃
Fun fact: Minnemann has also played in the technical death metal band Necrophagist!
Marco has been one of my favorite drummers since he played with Paul Gilbert. Was so bummed when he wasnt given the Dream Theater gig. Loved him in Avatar lol
And Guthrie is a beast.
from all the super drummers and supper musicians of our era, this setup is the most succesfull to my ears
I'm always up for some good old Aristocrats - would love to see more by them. Smugglers corridor, Blues Fuckers or Flatlands are absolutely beautiful!
Definitely see them live if you get the chance. Fantastic musicians
These guys are so amazingly talented. And so fun to watch as well.
Seen these guys live in Milan last year, I've known of Guthrie through being a guitarist and Brian through enjoying Metalocalypse (Dethklok) but had never really heard Marco... Seeing them live, my face was in awe the whole time. (My PFP is from the concert!) - Most of the time you didn't know which player to watch, I wish I had 3 sets of eyes to witness the genius! Can't wait for the new album!
Seeing them next month! Soooo good.
Oh they're amazing
G.G., B.B. and M.M. These guys are next level, the three of them. All what they did is incredible !
It's the same song repeated in different genres... Jazz, disco, rock, metal... epic.
Saw them 3 times in switzerland where i live. Love this band so much❤
Marco my Fav. What a happy drummer
Yes!
What a player!
Three virtuosi demonstrating the benefit of listening to each other.
This is one of the most expressive trios the earth has ever seen. Three aliens doing alien stuff that sound kinda earthlike.
Saw them in NYC and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a better band. And I’m old
They use a lot of humor in their music.
Also saw Marco and Bryan with Satriani ..Marco is one of greatest soloists on planet earth. And I’ve seen virtually everyone live
wooo i really hoped you would react to this one day :D it is such display of pure Fun and talent
Best trio ever….at least in my life.
FREAKISH
This was something I didn't know I needed
🤯
Right!?
@@AndrewRooneyDrums I've heard of Govan, but I never heard of this band! Amazing stuff
Andrew- love your reaction & surprised it took u 2 years to get back to this trio after seeing your first reaction- I actually went down the rabbit hole after seeing them for the first time on your channel ! U gotta check out "blues trucker"(with an f) where they mangle a blues song on purpose & Marco has an amazing solo with the best cymbal work I've ever seen
Seen them life twice and might again in about a week. It's a fine experience I can tell you that.
This is brilliant...loving the chicken pig thing! Are they taking us on a whistle-stop tour of different musical genres?
I come across Marco when he 'interviewed' to fill the drummer role after Mike Portnoy left the band. He was a monster there, in the brief time he was allowed. Now I understand why he was invited. His two other bandmates are not bad either! OMG!! Is there anything these three cannot play?
Improvised 🤯
They have there ques but apart from that there just talking fluent genius
The bassist is super legit
If you haven't seen / listened to Marco play Desert Tornado, you really should. Even if you don't upload a reaction to yt, just one music lover to another, listen to the album version of desert tornado, as a drummer.
Yes!
Guthrie is an amazing guitarist.
Understatement of the Decade
Rick Beato calls him greatest improviser alive
These guys are about three steps beyond next level. ❤
Guthrie can play like anyone, sound like anyone and much, much more.
KITTed out, I see. :D
Yes Sir! 🤣👀
This is unfuckingbelievable. Wow. At first I thought it was straight Jazz but no. I don't know what to call it but it's phenomenal. Metal are you kidding me? And good metal. I think their sales will start going up now. Oh well, just another band of geniuses. And dudes have sense humah, like Rush. I think that every one of them has become one of my favs. I think it's way beyond top 10 for most categories, there's so many at this point.
Talent level: SICK.
If Geddy and Alex wanted to get RUSH going again... Marco is the dude.
Or... Senri Kawaguchi. ( That would blow some minds out there! ) 😆
Wow goosebumps!!
also by the way, that's murderface on bass from dethklok
Got aware of MM when auditioning for Dream Theater and Bryan Beller when touring with Vai, but yeah, the three together are no less ingenious. Love it!
CRISP & TASTY!!!!!!
Minnemann used to be a member of Necrophagist - the band that invented Technical Death Metal basically. I'd highly recommend listening to Stabwound.
for real bro, you should check out Aquiles Priester face of the storm. That drumming is unreal for his age!
The Aristocrats and Liquid Tension Experiment are two of my favorite super groups.
Ok, it took a bit to find it again, but here’s a short video of Marco using a practice pad and Oink (the piggy) for warm-ups. Hopefully my comment doesn’t get deleted for posting a link to a youtube video…it’s happened a few times now:
ua-cam.com/video/HqxpN1GeoHs/v-deo.htmlsi=v0r2FUdbc98kjySw
Phenomenal
Lets get some more Alex Bent! Trivium released a new drum playthrough for their track "Fall Into Your Hands" From their latest album and he absolutely kills it
Guthrie Govan (pronounced same as "Govern") is widely regarded (amongst guitarists) as one of the best in the world; Marco has played with loads of big names; Brian is a genius! More please!
i really dig the lyrics :D even if i don't understand farm animal talk
been following MM since his 90s funk rock/crossover band "freaky fukin weirdoz" - worth a check out if you like "infectious grooves"
For me Marco is the greatest. Aristocrats are extraordinary
Marco Tried out for dream theater, so you know that Guy rips
100%
next on the list for these guys should be "Louisville stomp"
Honestly, not to be a dick rider, but this is the greatest musical performance I've ever seen
Fing Awsome
i like that noone from the audience is moving...not even an inch . i saw Vai live and it was the same :)
Yeah for sure. It's art as opposed to a dance party.
And the meter/feel changes make it hard to feel the pulse for a concert goer :)
I'm like that at every concert. I saw Marty Friedman and John 5 recently and felt out of place not moving an inch. But man I can't keep my eyes off the playing. I really regret missing The Aristocrats the last time they came through Denver. I'll have to catch them on the next tour. By far my number one concert priority right now.
A Brit, a German, and an American.
you should check out "drum for your life" by marco minneman.. its unreal
For each song, try to guess who wrote it. All 3, including Marco, are great musicians with each other’s instruments, so they all write for each other
