    As a guy who lives here (Bacolod City) I have to say that's good advice for everyone planning a trip or retirement here, especially about taking your time. I love my life here in the Philippines and you will too if you can adjust to Phillipine culture. Please research the culture before you come... you will save yourself a lot of trouble. And he is right Gents, do not rush into anything, Relationship's, leases, location or anything else. Be sparce with personal information, keep your thoughts to yourself, and for gods sake do not get involved in any business deals or politics. Just don't.
    Relax and settle in. Take the time you need to get acclimated to your new home, there's no rush. Finding a condo month to month at a reasonable price is not hard to do. If you are planning to come here for retirement or a long term stay, take your time to find the place that fits you. Take the long view. That Tourist mindset of instant gratification can get expensive fast, and I'm not just talking about money here. Think with the Big Head and remember, you are not in Kansas anymore.

    Nicely put! Honest, no sugar-coating, straight to the point without bashing! You're not some others who can't make a comment without comparing to other cultures and without BASHING. Thank you!

    Have you done or consider doing a video in how western culture has affected (good of bad) dating in the Philippines since you've lived there?

    I believe that I've broken most every rule here (but I'm learning) - mostly the relationship ones. 😅 I've been very lucky, thus far, but everything mentioned here is quite sensible. This should be playing on a constant loop at the arrival wing of the airport.

    I'm not going to say that everything you're saying is right but I'm also not going to say that everything that you're saying is wrong. It's kind of a little bit of both and you kind of stay away from the actual truth of it all.
    The biggest problem as to why a lot of expats have issues here in the Philippines is because about 90% or slightly more of the expats that go here are those so-called desperate ones who absolutely could never in their lifetime get a woman in their home country. So naturally when they grab a little bit of attention from a pretty Filipina girl who absolutely has no good intentions then the mindset of that so-called desperate foreigner overreacts and thinks it's real. Then you have to factor in also the shallow mindset of a lot of these desperate foreigners who think that if a girl just says hi to him that girl absolutely wants them. That's the biggest problem that a lot of people just don't talk about. Also I absolutely mean no disrespect to anyone or even to you. I can tell you still have a lot to learn. I can also tell, which I could see why, that you've been targeted a lot by the ones with not good intentions. Meaning after money only.

    May Expats fall for the Okie Doke, and it's exactly as you said they fall too quickly and are too easily swayed and disarmed by the "I love you" "I want you" "I like you a lot" these are not honest emotions especially when it comes after only meeting the person over the last month or weeks in some case. That is superficial and meant to disarm you with a charm offensive to have you drop your guard and then apply the "Coup de Gras". Critical thinking is what's needed because you easily become a victim. Stop thinking with the small head and use your intuition aka your Gut feeling to sharpen your mental acuity and discerning tool use it in every situation.

      I agree 👍 foreigners coming to the Philippines on short term or long term should be mindful of what to do and not to do. There's a lot of good and kind people but NOT ALL, so you have to be careful of choosing whom you give your trust with. Know the place you wanted to live and the people around you very well. I'm a native Filipina from Bacolod City but currently working outside the country for 14 years. My ultimate dream is to go back and retire in my home country, like many foreigners wanted to stay and have their retirement in the Philippines. It's more fun in the Philippines indeed!
      So goodluck guys! 😂

    These are my top 3 things not to do here in the Philippines as an expat. 1.) Dont flash money around or youll lose a finger. 2 ) Never accept a favor from anyone especially relatives, or your on the hook for many favors from them. 3.) Never sing first in a karaoke party, as youll soon find yourself as the worst singer of the bunch 😂

    If you are a soft-hearted person (or a virtue signaler), you are going to be put thru a meat grinder, emotionally, here. You will make nearly every mistake the youtube community warns you about. It is simply in your DNA to bleed emotions and to be easily pushed around.
    I and other emotionally tough men I have met here over the last 4 years, who are frequently fair and modestly generous, will rarely be caught with our pants down so to speak. Before you come here, you need to measure your ball sac and learn some street smarts.

    • @WatchCaliforniaExpat
      @WatchCaliforniaExpat  Місяць тому +3

      Fair and accurate comment. Though for me its not about measuring your balls but measuring your boundaries. If you don't have strong boundaries here you will make a lot of mistakes. I'm a more soft-hearted person by nature, and I had to learn the hard way in the Philippines to trust slowly--do everything slowly frankly, and raise my boundaries higher than I've ever needed to previously in my life.

    • @MakeTheRules2
      @MakeTheRules2 Місяць тому +1

      @@WatchCaliforniaExpat - We appear to agree just fine. Not sure why you would resist my balls metaphor? Do you posit that one can have boundaries with only pea size balls (again, a metaphor)? A person with strong boundaries will have to be assertive enough to enforce them and this is the essence of having "balls"

    • @WatchCaliforniaExpat
      @WatchCaliforniaExpat  Місяць тому

      @@MakeTheRules2 Agreed that we are basically saying the same thing. For me, having boundaries is about being clear about what we allow or don't allow in our interactions and relationships and it does take balls to stick to those boundaries.

    • @MakeTheRules2
      @MakeTheRules2 Місяць тому

      @@WatchCaliforniaExpat - Can I ask you why you compromised (in the past) on your boundaries and have tightened up things now? I have always wondered how I could help soft-hearted guys become tougher. What role do you think listening to information plays vs. having to be burned vs. just having confidence issues, etc?
