    Filipinos are contented when they have enough foods to eat 3x daily. And, sometimes they can have RED HORSE, TANDUAY, EMPERADOR to drink while talking and singing with neighbors and friends.

    Back in the US someone once approached me in a parking lot and asked for money "to buy a bus ticket home". I gave him a few dollars, but I wondered: did I help him buy a bus ticket home ... Or did I help him buy drugs? After that I took to mostly giving to established charities, homeless shelters and the like. I figured they were in a better position to distinguish real need from people just taking advantage of the system. I've carried that over here. I give to a charity associated with my church. I don't give to beggars. Once my wife bought some towels from someone on the street. Maybe that's good.

    I have been going to PI since 1995 and lived there for about 2 years. Your hard earned money should be put to work to end the cycle of poverty. Obviously, you can't end it all and need to focus on the micro level. We tried setting up the nieces and nephews with small businesses. They all failed. We realized we had to assist the generation after - the grand-nephews and grand-nieces. From pre-school through sending them off on their chosen profession. They in turn will invest their income back into the family putting the next gen through school. It is a long term investment and has some success.

    Davao is probably the most well-balanced city in the Philippines in terms of: 1. Modern amenities like hotels, healthcare and Large private and public hospitals, Shopping malls, etc. 2. Good standard of living with lower cost of living than any place in Visayas and Luzon. 3. One of the Safest and Cleanest cities. 4. People ate generally polite, but are more more frank than other Filipinos which I actually prefer. 5. Good quality beaches, hill and mountain resorts are very easy to travel for quick staycations. 6. Most places and roads are clean. 7. Lots of Main Roads and highways outside the Central downtown are wide; usually 6 to 8 lanes.

    As someone who is Cebuano-Davaoeno, I would say Cebu is a nice place due to its modern amenities and good food. Cebuanos know how to cook well, and the pastries are the probably the Best in the Philippines. However, here are some of the biggest drawbacks: 1. Dirty streets and highways. Many of them are. 2. Insufficient or lack of Public Trash bins. 3. Super Heavy Traffic. 4. Narrow roads. There are only very few main roads that are wide enough. 5. Higher cost of living, utility bills, rent, etc. So, u need to have higher income to compensate. As for Davao, it is a very huge place with Modern amenities on par with Cebu and Manila in general in terms of Government and Private hospitals, shopping centers and the like. Here are the reasons that makes Davao better than Cebu: 1. It has lots of areas with Wide roads and highways; 6 to 8 lane roads are plentiful outside the City center or central downtown. 2. Main roads are highly interconnected to each other, and with secondary roads through the bypass roads. 3. Most places in Davao city, and whole Metro Davao and Davao region are CLEAN, ORGANIZED, and well-maintained when compared to most cities in the Philippines. 4. The fruits and vegetables and Rice are of better quality and Very Affordable, if not ouright cheap. -There are more affordable restaurants and eateries due to the abundance of food sources with better quality Raw food materials than those from Visayas and Luzon. 5. Cheaper rent, except for condos; and more affordable utilities. 6. Income or salaries are more or less similar, if not higher or slightly lower than Cebu. Basically, very similar. Hence, you save tons of money when u live in Davao. 7. Safer and more secured. 8. Cleaner public transportation especially with City and Provincial-bound buses. Davao's buses are also newer and more modern than Cebu, and even when compared with New York or the East coast in the US. 9. Davao city and Davao region as a whole, has better network of Public or Government hospital network than Cebu, and Government health facilities in Davao are bigger. -Davao has more large Tertiary level or Level-4 hospitals as well. 10. Good quality white sand and black sand resorts are easier to access, and Hill escape and Mountain resorts are plentiful as well. Well-within 15mins to 1 hour of Travel. Generally, Davao has better standards of living and lower cost of living. This is from my experiences having lived in both metros and provinces, respectively for years and many times as well. Having lived in Cebu also made me realize as to why huge swaths Cebuanos and Visayans moved to Davao for many decades. It is even true up to this day.

    I am a compassionate person who feels pain when I see others in pain. So of course it is hard for me to see children and mothers suffering in the streets. I don't give myself and just let my filipina do it for me.

    Don't have kids if you can't afford them... and if you do, it is not my problem.

  • @asorite
    @asorite 23 години тому

    get to know first the person who is begging first. i am a filipino and I wouldn't randomly give anyone money in the streets of metro manila because it encourages these kids to live such lifestyle of begging. Understand that begging in the streets is actually quite lucrative for someone who does not the skillset to do common work. It may not look like it but there are opportunities being given by many local and international social development organizations and our government's DSWD (dept. of social welfare) to children. yes these organizations may have their own flaws but they do succeed with most kids they rehabilitate. Most kids that undergo social development by them almost always succeeds in helping them get by at least until they are old enough to get proper work. These social workers in the Philippines can teach them skills and still give them a good childhood through community and social support. The more you give money randomly the less they will succeed in the long term. If you are not willing or don't have the time to try and know them, then its best not to give any to these kids because it will only endanger them through exploitation from syndicates and teaching them bad habits. If you really want to help absolutely then report them to DSWD. Else, say no or wave them off gently.

    The kids tugging at your heart strings, and displays of dire need are for the most part an organized group who understands their business well. So no don't give if there is a group of kids or even if they are accompanied by an adult unless you want to be pestered by them relentlessly. Now if you have a strong sense of discernment and it makes you feel relieved to give by all means give.

      @@WatchCaliforniaExpat correct. But the people who usually beg are down at the bottom already. Some people just don't get the same breaks as other people have. Example are the poor kids. These kids don't have parents that can provide them their needs and so they are forced to beg to survive. What is 10 to 20 pesos just to give them some relief? I've given that little amount of money but the gratefulness and how they response to your little kindness is priceless. Some even sincerely praise God as if they received 10k. That shows how desperately poor they are and at the same time morally sound. 😊
