How to Draw Head in different angles using Andrew Loomis method

  • Hi everyone. In this video tutorial, I have demonstrated the cranium in different angle. Also, I have tried to explain my thought process for each of the drawings using the loomis method. I have made markings on the ball and used it as an reference model to understand the structure underneath. I hope this video helps in understanding some basics on how to draw the head.

      Only issue I have is when he curved the line going through the flat side of the head. If the side of the head is FLAT, the line going through it should not be curved.

      @SanjogSinnarkar  6 років тому

      Hi Sathish Kumar. Thanks for the comment. I agree with you to an extend. Loomis method is more of laying the features in the correct place, whereas Reilly method is more advanced and demands good observation and vison, firstly to understand and then implement into your drawing. Its more of form and rhythemic lines.

    The slice that you are supposed to cut of, is not in relation to anything? My faces look weird if I cut up too much or too little and I have no idea how to know how much to cut...

    • @SanjogSinnarkar
      @SanjogSinnarkar  6 років тому +7

      Hi Elina. You cannot match this accurately, since the proportions differ from person to person. The slice will always differ with respect to the size and shape of the head. However, you can achieve this, by dividing it into three equal parts from the center half(browline) of the circle to the end of the circle. The starting point of the third part represents the nose line. Similarly you can achieve the hair line. Joining the hairline and noise line should give you the side sliced circle(side plane)
      I hope i was able to explain, if not kindly share your drawing or the reference image you are using and I shall send you the drawing.

    Is there a way to work out how to get the hairline and nose line from the sphere? Instead of guessing by just drawing a square?

    • @SanjogSinnarkar
      @SanjogSinnarkar  2 роки тому

      Thanks a lot
      After dividing the circle into 2 halves, divide again the upper and lower half into 3 equal parts. So in total u have six equal parts. the second line is the hairline and sixth is nose line.
      One suggestion keep paper handy while reading this comment and make the markings as you read and follow the instructions point by point. Let me know in case of any confusion

      Hi Man Ong Gia
      The brows should be on the center line, since you would be slicing off the sides of the sphere. From Centerline to the bottom of the circle divide it into 3 equal parts. The eyes lies on the First part.
      If you do not slice the both sides of the sphere, and include the complete sphere, then the eyes will lie on the Centerline.

      Firstly, divide the big circle into two equal halves. Then again divide each half into three equal parts. By doing so, you will get six equal parts altogether. The bottom line of the first part and starting line of the sixth part should give you height of the circle.
