After many searches i landed on this video. Clarity without any confusion amaze me. Only drawing circles in the places of eye sacket needed clarification.thanks a lot.
Thank you for an excellent tutorial. It did go a little fast, but that's what pause and rewind are for. Excellent breakdown of the Reilly Abstraction. I only found out about this method recently and find it far more intuitive for me than the Loomis Method. Thanks for showing the process on 3/4 and profile views too. Super helpful. I'm going to try using this method in my portrait group this afternoon.
Ahh this is by far the most helpful head tutorial i've ever seen, i really don't to very well with the loomis head and this method is just what i needed, tysm for this video!
I'm not really good at memorizing things. Never have been. I've always preferred understanding the underlying reason behind why something's there instead of just knowing about it. That helps me to commit that thing to memory. Same with the reilly method. Sure, you're pointing out which one goes where, but not why I should put it there. Is it the muscle structure? The bone structure? How does the line behave when things move, like an expression or something. Sure, some are easy enough to guess, but not all. It's not just this video though, I've gone through several videos on reilly method and they're mostly the same. I can only understand some of it. I guess I don't have a sense of rhythm like proper artists, but an explanation does help a long way.
This is about the clearest explanation of the Reilly method and I've saved it for later reference, only criticism is could you slow your speech down a bit, it all goes a little to fast. Thank you for the time you have put in to this tutorial. 👍
Legit the best tutorial I have seen. Much better than the professionals on UA-cam. I like that you use a different colored brush to show what you are talking about ❤
Well I took my time before watching this video in full. I hope you take your time making your future videos like this because you clearly took the time to consider how to present this information so that it could be as accessible as possible. I'm gonna be the one to say if you're still getting back on your art stuff, you already got your teaching and video production skills down 🦾 Looking forward to your next one!
Comment #100. Nice. Excellent explanation on the Reilly method and how to use it (the most important part many seem to just go about it too quickly). Nicely produced and narrated video. Subscribed!
Thank you so much. I do like the Loomis but im not getting it as well as I NEED. Your Rielly method video helped me to understand it way better. It seems a bit less confusing.
A lot of steps! My question is right at the beginning, as a digital artist, how do I find the correct position to add the two vertical lines on the side of the head?
I am unable to make a good potrait and my drawings are not realistic , I can not make eyes noses and lips perfectly even learning from yt and I am doing daily practice .How you do it very easily ?
Nice video albeit a tad rapid. You say you can dissect the circle into eights but no mention as to what the eights refer to? Fifths seem to work nicely though. Thanks.
I end up with a square face shape even tho the person on a reference i used doesn't have a square face shape, idk what to do i tried drawing it different more slimmer but it doesn't work. Can somebody help?
Hi. I am just starting. I mean from scratch. My first impression is this looks so complex relative to what i have seen with the Loomis method. Is Riley considered a more advanced version of Loomis? Should i even try this?
You could probably say that 😊 Loomis might be an easier starting point if you have absolutely no drawing experience since this one is more complicated. but I still think it’s a great way to learn proportion, even for beginners, so I would still give it a try and then if it’s too much, just come back to it later. Or start by just overlaying it on drawings to see where you can improve proportions?
@@leighanncreates thanks. Btw, i drew allot as a child. I stopped in ‘78 when i was 14 years old. I am nearly 59 now and i want to take it up again. I didn’t study anyone’s method. I just did by copying comic book characters. They were awesome. I hope to get that joy back. Sorry to lay this story on you. Venting I suppose. Big regrets. Huge really.
@@nomobties I’m excited for you to get back into it then! I’m sure you had other things that you were focused on at the time, so it’s cool that you’ll get to pursue art now that you’re ready 😊 there’s just something about getting to do the things we enjoyed as children that’s so special. Also, there’s so many great resources out there now that make drawing easier and more fun to learn! Best of luck with it! ☺️
Вы такая приятная...вот только очень быстрая ..и музыка быстрая ..прямо как в супермаркете в отделе красок..нужно все быстро выбрать и не ошибиться)))).
Until I’m really familiar with it, I will keep using it as a reference or to fix proportions. Eventually though, I should understand how to draw the head and head anatomy enough to move away from using it
The quality and links from this video are fucking awesome thank you. I remember watching your first video and glad it brought me back. Subbed. How long have you been drawing ?
The UA-cam algorithm is working in both our favors 😁 I started drawing really young and took a class or 2 in middle school, but during high school and college, it was really just doodling on my homework. But now I’m getting back into it!
@@leighanncreates I wished I started serious earlier or at least took some classes. I was just doodling at college too now i might take a course there. I see you got experience seeing your etsy. Loaf life lmao 😎. You can try selling at art conventions too.
@@leighanncreates I see, I'd try to take a fundamental with an instructor at least just to have a another set of eyes at your progress especially for the underlying skills that are under all drawing and in the head pace as your drawing you know? Goodluck on your drawing journey! For the most part after that beginning its all you! At least in my methodology.
its almost a simplified version of reilly in terms of head construction. both are good. building on a foundation of loomis construction with reilly rhythms is the best way to go about learning it imo
The loomis method is definitely faster but it kinda leaves you on your own about what to do with the facial features, this one's pretty helpful if you can't instinctively pick up on the shapes of everything :]
After many searches i landed on this video. Clarity without any confusion amaze me. Only drawing circles in the places of eye sacket needed clarification.thanks a lot.

You just made my whole month 😭🥰 thank you so much!

Pause, rewind, and .75 speed. : )
Great job delivering the key points Reilly method so concisely!
Hands down, my favorite Reilly Method video. No long winded explanation . . . short and concise. Appreciate the work.
what a simple way to draw a head!! Now I can draw a very beautiful and accurate head, just give me a whole day😂

There’s definitely not as many tutorials out there on those angels. I’m glad this helped!!
Very helpful video. Very clear and detailed. Thank you very much.

After 7 video's yours is the most complete. Thank you.
Its amazing how many different ways that people use the Riley method. No two artists approach it the same

Brilliant tutorial, clearly explained and the last section about 3 ways to use it was really cool, thank you!
Thank you. I've watched several Reilly Method videos, and yours was the best. You have a great teaching style.
Thiss reilly method thing took my head drawing to a different level.. i remember drawing everything with no proportions
You really do do an excellent job. I think your progress the end of the year is gonna be bonkers! 🤯
You make really good choices. 👍✏️
Thank you so much! That’s definitely the goal 😁
This is the greatest video ever created for reilly method drawing!

Good one. How do we now wrap a shade on the Reilly head, and ensure the shade flows with the Reilly curve.
Excellent Video!!
Thank you!
wow shes awesome, great video!
Finally a reilly method tutorial that doesn't take an hour to explain
Thankss 😊

A lot of steps! My question is right at the beginning, as a digital artist, how do I find the correct position to add the two vertical lines on the side of the head?
Can you apply it in a photo reference

holy hell thats alot. Think i'll stick to loomis.
