12:10 Road Closed? That must only apply to human drivers. I can clearly see an opening to squeeze through right here! Zooom 🚗💨
😂😂😂 apparently so
The simpleminded FSD software still cannot read a road sign that is clear as day. omg
Ah there he is.
@@MetzTech Yeah, I keep watching your videos, every time a new version of FSD is released. FSD continues to disappoint, after 6 months of v12 availability.
Robotaxi seems like pure comedy and fantasy, at this point in time .
@@DerekDavis213 Sure Derek. Since Metz is sitting in his barcalounger in the basement den and imagining this and it goes right to creating a video. Now that's some tech! Dream it up and boom it makes a video. Yes Derek I am mocking your faulty logic. Well because it's faulty. The closed road thing is a problem and you'd have some cred if you said something intelligent about it.
Got 12.5 last night. Basically from office curb, to front of house garage without touching steering wheel or tapping accelerator. Handled 3 stop signs like I would without hesitation like 12.3.6. Finally seeing value from my purchase of FSD since 2018. Super impressed.
That has been my experience as well. Crazy to just not think about it…so smooth
The way it handled the roadworks around 9:00 onwards and ignoring the navigation is absolutely incredible. I may not have done so well myself. Outstanding.
Right?! 👏🏼
I jumped from V12.3.6 straight to V12.5 and 1st 2 drives have been much improved. Several consistent problem areas are fixed.
I love when it feels like it’s been trained on your specific edge cases.
@@MetzTech And I love and find even crazier the fact that it probably hasn't... IT JUST LEARNED IT NATURALLY
I also just got the 12.5 update after living with 12.3.6 for the 6 (annoying) weeks since getting our Y. We subscribed to FSD even though it had quite a few problems and interventions. I’ve driven with 12.5 three times today. Improvements from 12.3.6 are 1) fewer goofy lane changes; 2) less hesitant; 3) smoother more confident turns.
No change with 12.5: 1) still getting ghost braking at green lights some of the time crossing pedestrian crosswalks, but less than 12.3.6 which was ghost braking going through every street with crosswalks with no pedestrians, no cross traffic… I think it was triggered by the white line across the street, now with 12.5 it’s just some of the time); 2) still not decisive turning street corners, as if it sees pedestrians who are not there…. requires me pressing to tell it to “get on with it”.
New problem with 12.5: 1) car got the “hiccups” waiting behind another car at a red light on a slight decline…. It stuttered 3 or 4 times, releasing/braking/releasing/braking, etc. (surprising, didn’t do this on 12.3.6)
@@allanoas523 Have you tried doing a reboot? I had a few weird things happen as well, like couple of weird hesitations at a stop sign with no other cars around. I only thought of doing the reboot when the car seemed too slow to detect my phone in my pocket, and when viewing sentry footage was taking long to load. After the reboot, all weird hiccups went away
My urban drives with many construction zones have also been very positive on 12.5. I'm encouraged by the rate of improvement and knowing FSD will continually improve. I can't imagine where it will be in 12 months.
Spot on
Starting to look like it may well be 'in the money'. Robotaxi day is going to be vellly interestink.Remember no other auto driving software can do this. As soon as they pass the fence they are bricked.
Can't wait until the HW3 optimized version is released.
2023 M3 RWD - Assume I'm on HW3. How soon do you think?
@@ChuckMahon Same car I have. Hopefully soon. Looks awesome!
I went from 12.3.6 to 12.5. Things I’ve noticed right away was a more natural and gentler acceleration and a more smoother lane change into left or right turn lanes. For some reason it would turn and hesitate. Now it just goes into the turning lane right away.
Same I never tried 12.4.x, but overall so far so good
Yes, definitely noticed those things as well
Wow 8:41 that is impressive.
And Wow that is almost crazy car choosing better route than Google map navigation at 9:40🤯
Being able to follow detours is insanely complicated. Amazing to see it happen.
Now I just wish it would’ve followed the detour signs on the way out! Would’ve been perfect
That truck had the right of way if it was clear for you both. It was at the intersection first. That is a very common mistake people make in that situation. I made a move in a similar situation and my then wife scared me freaking out. I told her, like that truck I had the right of way, she disagreed. Days later she out of the blue said, "You were right." I'm responding, "What?" I had no clue what she was referring to. She then tells me she asked Robert the Megestrate at the civil court where she was a clerk what was the correct thing to do. She wanted to hear she was right, but Robert told her to listen to the old man, me, that I was right.
Makes sense to me!
Bro, are you okay? You seem a bit too desperate to tell someone your wife admitted you were right 😅
Nice quality! Thanks for the video, I hope you get more popular!
BTW it's supposed to be able to read signs competently in 12.6.x.
In 12.5.x, they are only focusing on the quality of the drive, human hand signals, summon, banish & merging the highway stack to v12.
I'm excited to see what other features 12.6 might get, like possibly navigating parking garages, respecting railroad crossing gates, yielding to emergency vehicles, communicating road dynamics with other Teslas, and possibly Grok LLM integration.
Thanks, Adam!
Luv Metz Tech, actually get excited when I see a new video pop up
❤️
12.5 for only a few days now. I will be subscribing when my free trial runs out!
I have been using FSD whenever possible since 2018. It only got to where passengers didn't realize it was on this year. And only got to where I was infrequently irritated this spring. Latest version before 12.5 does my commute in heavy traffic with highway and city streets nearly all by itself. Looks like 12.5 is the next big leap. People don't understand how freakin' crazy good this software is. Still gotta get it to work in sub-optimal weather, and a few other bits like that, but it's stunningly cool software.
I woke up at 4am to the message at 1am to download! First drive was iffy, failing a few of my usual edge cases. It ended with me taking over as it was turning into a store and cut it too close with an on coming car. It probably would have been fine but better safe. My afternoon drive from supercharger to my house was flawless.
I noticed it was a bit wonky at the start of my first drive. Then I did a double button reboot, and suddenly it fixed everything. Try the reboot.
@@EpicBenjoHow do you do a reboot?
@@smcdowell Press and hold both scroll wheels on the steering wheel until you see the Tesla logo on the screen and then you can let go
I got it today too and tried it, and it is vastly improved over 12.4. Had a lot of similar experiences to yours.
Awesome 👏🏼
Reading, understanding and acting on signs seems crucial.
Coming in 12.6 apparently
Really mind blowing.
The software basics for Teslabot are improving daily and Tesla Robotaxis will appear
sooner than we think.
Time to buy more Tesla stock.
I love to drive. I drive manual transmissions only, currently Audi TT and Jeep Wrangler. I hope this FSD catches on for the masses. I’m not sure what % of people are like me, I couldn’t even guess, likely less than 5%.
I’ve also only driven manual cars. I love to drive too. I got my highland in May. My first non-standard car and I can’t believe how much I love to drive it. I just received 12.5 an hour ago. I’m excited to try it. I also did a 2,100 mile road trip in June. So smooth and not exhausting at all. I did use the fsd on the highways it was 12.3.6. This car is amazing!!!
Nice presentation! I wanted to chime in. We had a nearly identical experience in our 2024 M3 RWD. Received 12.5 early in the morning two days ago. Compared to 12.3.6, a lot of minor issues, mostly just peculiarities, are completely gone. Really enjoying FSD. It's the best $8k I ever spent. Can't wait for UA-cam premium. Yee-haw!
Great video. Looking forward to trying out 12.5.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Next time or even as a follow up video - whenever it makes a mistake at a road sign and you intervene, please have it go back and do the same drive. See if it remembers the intervention and corrects it.
Definitely will!
Incredible. Truly.
What an improvement!
Massive
And that's just FSD AI!
We got the same incredible progress coming with ALL tech! 😃
Great video, looking forward to the stack merge. Want to see it be that good on the highway. Some interesting times a head.
Thanks, Paul!
Interventions seems to be separate to driving quality - as if they’re a different game that fsd has to get good at. And they’re still coming at the same basic rate. Given the car needs to achieve 100,000+ hours continuous without intervention the problem seems like it will still take a long time to resolve - even if the driving between interventions is smooth.
Can't wait to try this for myself. I live in an area where the roads are marked pretty well, so it should be nearly perfect here.
I definitely consider driving in the wrong lane in that construction zone worthy of an intervention. So 2 critical interventions. I’d be curious to see it respond to crazy drivers on the road.
nice fsd review!
Thank you 🙏🏻
I think they can label it chauffeur mode now awesome! Thanks for sharing the video
Thanks for the video. I did the Free 30 day trial 12.3.6 with my Model Y and one thing I didn't really like was the very fast accelerations from stop signs and lights. Is version 12.5 FSD smoother and not so fast in pulling away from Stop Signs - lights?????
Also version 12.3.6 did way too many hesitations in various places. Even did hesitations in shadows through my neighborhood.
I currently do not have FSD.
Thanks for your video. Take care.
12.5 still has disconnects between Maps and FSD. It chooses some crazy directions and rural speed limits are sketchy (slow)
Wow! Just wow!! FSD 12.5!!!
12:33 I don’t think it was committed due to the nav. FSD tends to commit to the lane direction so if it mistakenly went in the left turn lane then it’ll turn left despite nav telling it to go straight. In this case it appeared to be in a straight only lane and tried to go straight rather than make a right. When it ignored the nav on the previous drive, it was able to make a legal right turn from the lane.
Could have taken the right turn lane earlier but it didn’t seem to understand the road was closed in time. This is where vehicle to fleet communications will come in handy.
💯
I had the chance of using it in my last day of my trial and it was beautiful compare to the 12.3 i will miss it for sure
Something I wonder: Does FSD Know what kind of car it is driving? Does it know what the car is capable of? Would FSD (try to) do something (in an emergency situation) that the car is incapable of doing?
I'm picking up my first Tesla, (new Model X) on Monday. I have a feeling I'll be adding the Full Self-Driving Capability if it really performs like this. I do get to try it for a month for free. Exciting stuff.
Just get the $99/month subscription if you do
Great camera setup Metz. Nice video.
Thanks so much 🙏🏻
How do you get over the initial fear of letting go and letting Tesla? LOL. That's my biggest problem with my Model 3 LR. I think I'm just a little too old-school (aka old). I am impressed by the technology though!
Should have tried that construction sign turn again and see what would happen
I know. I want to revisit it
How bout some city driving in lots of traffic
I will try that next time!
I like FSD 12.5, but I had to disable the Automatic set speed offset option. It is regularly driving 10+ mph over the limit on a side street outside my apartment complex. It is a 25mph street there and my Model 3 likes to 38+ mph there. I've been pulled over by cops that like to sit there for less... lol
I’m with you on that. This version likes to book it!
9:40 Very cool to see. Look at the map on the right and how the Tesla figures it out. I'm actually becoming more impressed, but I've yet to try it myself.
Exactly. Super cool to watch it adapt before the NAV updates
Thanks for not being a muskrat glazer like most Tesla channels, refreshing to hear calm nuanced takes from you. I'm not an Elon fan at all but the engineering team behind FSD is impressive. Also shoutout to still using the Twitter icon too lol
😂 I’m definitely not an Elon fanboy. But I appreciate the teams he’s helped assemble for sure
@@MetzTech same here brother. I saw a channel where the guy said he pays for premium connectivity to help Elon save the world and i had to exit out and found your channel 😭
@makeitrainnaren 😭😭😭 well I’m glad you made it over here 🤘🏻
Looking good!
Can't wait for it to come to Europe....
11:13 if you look closely you'll notice something I've seen in other videos. It IS trying to park, but the model actually tries to reverse despite it being disabled. the path planner is under the vehicle and it turned the steering wheel left, which is what it should be doing if reverse wasn't disabled. Tesla just needs to flip a switch and this will work.
Exactly right. I’ve noticed that so often on this build
It would be interesting to know what data is sent back to Tesla motors from that one interaction where it tried to go through the blocked off road and you had to take over and turn it around and get out of the business center another way. Part of being in the levels of autonomy ought to be how they learn from the mistakes that are fixed by the drivers.
So exciting. This is how 12 was when first released. then they started messing with it with every "dot" release. Hoping the same doesn't happen here...
Waiting anxious in Europe (Denmark), to have full fsd enabled.....
Very good video, thanks!
Thanks, Steve!
Change your screen to light mode so reflections aren't messing it up for us so much
It's curious to me why the highway stack isn't merged. I am wondering what the big challenge was there or maybe it was just low priority regarding everything else.
It will be soon. I’m sure it’s a large undertaking
Likely just the poor showing of 12.4 made it worthwhile to get 12.5 out faster
great job!
Thank you 🙏🏻
They should teach FSD to read. Everything!
I also got a strike out when it said I wasn't paying attention when merging onto a freeway, but I was. Not sure why it didn't think I was.
Weird. Knock on wood I still haven’t gotten a single one
What about phantom breaking issue, especially on highways?
Haven’t had that once. I even experienced that a little bit on 12.4.3
braking. Let's not break the thing.
The truck had the right of way at the opposing stop sign, because the truck stopped and started moving before the Tesla was fully stopped.
So I'm a complete newbie to Tesla. I just bought a 2024 Y four days ago. I'm still learning the basics on FSD. I did the over the air upgrade to FSD 12.5 yesterday and noticed it is still making me keep my hands on the wheel. Am I missing something? Every video I have seen today shows people using it without having to keep their hands on the wheel. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Do you have the cabin camera enabled? And not covered?
@@MetzTech yes, enabled and not covered. I’m in SoCal, so not sure if it’s a state thing?
No, I have seen in San Francisco and San Pedro. I would contact Tesla.
OK, so I figured it out. Obviously, it is my error. When I wear sunglasses, it requires me to keep hands on the wheel and when I’m not wearing sunglasses, I look too frequently at the screen, which makes me think that I have to keep my hands on the wheel. That is not the case. I just need to keep my eyes on the road and it works just fine. I just took a 75 mile round-trip to test it out 12.5 works great.
holyshit, it's here.
Maayyybeee, fsd went "around the sign" because it sort of looked like the sign was stating to take the lane to the right of the arrow as the arrow was pointing at that lane? 🤷 Hmmm🤔
Why am I still stuck on 12.3.6!!! I hate the staggered rollouts.
really?
I feel you. I was shocked that I went from 12.4.3 to 12.5 so fast
I’m still got it yet but Is 12.5 not required hand on steering wheel.
I went from 12.3.6 to 12.5 and it’s much better. But last night once it got dark I was on a two lane road and someone pulled out on their side of the road, stayed in their lane and my car slammed on the brakes.
I haven’t had a hard brake like that but if you notice when I’m pulling into the Krispy Kreme parking lot that other car pulls into it’s turning lane but my car slows way down and creeps in. I think it still needs some fine tuning
This kinda makes me sad that I didn't wait for Highland Model 3 when I upgraded from my 2018 Model 3, I thought I would never be able to transfer FSD again.
Only thing I hate about FSD is I always have to disengage due to it driving too slow, end up with a few cars behind me everytime😮💨 please update so that you have the ability to set any speed without speedlimits
You can just add a little throttle. That seems s to work for me
I think I saw other UA-cam videos that they set the speeds in the settings
@@johnsteichen5239 thabk you. Works very well
@@mattsparks5957 how do you do that?
@@edwardcarrillom I don't have a Tesla, I wish I did. I thought I seen it on a UA-cam video about 3 weeks ago in the settings. It looked like the speed could be set how many miles per hour over the limit it could go.
And it could be set in chill mode or more aggressive....
Right?
Look forward to your Tesla videos🤙🏻
🙏🏻🙏🏻
Excellent work of tesla team!
when you thought it will going park itself in that first parking spot, and it stop then kept going, if you let it keep going, maybe it didnt like that spot and was looking for a shading spot
I wish lol
Ok. It’s finally hit 99% 🎉 How long for the rest of the 9’s
Did your car on previous builds "bounce" off the white line (see 5:31 in your video) and jerk back to the middle of the lane on freeway exits? Hoping .5 fixes that behavior. Very jerky and uncomfortable on some highway exits.
after tesla finish this ap and start selling it to other companies, with comission ofcourse, musk gonna become ureachable rich)
I have the 2024 model 3 and I haven’t gotten the update yet? 😐
The thing I hate the most is how fast it accelerates after a stop so I’m hoping 12.5 helps with this
This may seem like I reach. But I have only noticed it launching after a stop when it needs to… for example at that stoplight at 14:41 bc it needed to get past the car on my right to merge onto the highway. Outside of scenarios like that it’s very smooth
My MYP went directly to FSD v12.5 from FSD v12.3.6, but I rather not be caught without sunglasses on a bright sunny day just to achieve hand-free FSD operation; awaiting FSD v12.5.x improvements.
So, this clip ua-cam.com/video/l87gU_pGP5U/v-deo.htmlsi=OTd2XRV844oGbW58 is my first drive in the dark with FSD v12.5 (version number visible on the display) installed in my MYP the day before yesterday. And the day before operating in the dark, FSD v12.5 did a stormy drive ua-cam.com/video/jCT8NVfyOQA/v-deo.htmlsi=LdIfmjWvFemGxvj0 in the evening all hand-free without sunglasses. Along the way, FSD v12.5 seriously hesitated at one intersection with flashing red light during the storm.
All things considered, I think my 2024 MYP did reasonably well.
Great video! How do you find the minimal lane change option? During the trial, even with the option turned on, it kept changing to the right-hand lanes that had parking during x hours of the day or the right-hand lane would merge into one so I kept on having to intervene.
I think it was bugged a few versions back. It’s very smooth and minimal now when selected
9:45 is CRAZY
I know. I loved it adapting like that
Why havent i gotten this update? Im still on 12.3.6
It’s being pushed out in waves. Make sure you have “advanced” toggled in the software menu. And if you have Hw3 it’s not out yet
OMG. Easiest driving area. Is there no traffic? No congestion? No confusing roads?
so you woke up to 12.5 huh hahaha
🙈
This version does merge the stacks for city streets and the highways.
It will in a point update. They haven't been merged yet
It will at some point. Not there yet
it been pretty good, though this morning coming into work, it was signaling the wrong way, and took the opposite direction. really weird, maybe because it was dark??? not sure.
do you not need your hands on the wheel for fsd now? or did you do something to have it not require it?
All versions 12.4.3 and beyond do not require hands on the wheel
Hope for proper adaptive cruise control and following the speed limit. My HW3 MYP drives too slowly on 12.4.3.
I had that issue on 12.3.6 for sure
Can you tell us your camera set up including mounts? Great video!

Nice test except for that one part. Tricky road closure. You were in Assertive Mode from the sound of it?
Correct. And it was very assertive lol
@@MetzTech Hehe sounds like it. I hear that 12.5 is much more reasonable.
From what I heard they train using many good driving video examples. Do they need to start show it some bad driving videos like going past road closed signs and punish it somehow?
Someone said that they trained 12.4.1 on bad driving only which is why it was so bad 😂
How does he drive this without keeping hands on the wheel? Mine sends off alarms the minute I take my hands off the wheel

12:05 interesting choice to just go for it and into oncoming traffic as well.
you should probably change the display to light mode, darkmode is almost invisible on the camera at times. Is the right sun visor dead?
Appreciate the feedback! I move the visor to block the glare from the sun on my go pro!

I don’t think it’s out for HW3 yet
Sorry, but I just tested this out and it seems to be a step back. The grandma driving is even worse. Harsh braking well before an intersection followed by turning through a four way intersection at an extremely slow speed. It wasn’t good.
My first drive this morning felt the same as your experience. However every drive since has been better.
That’s crazy unfortunate. That has been the opposite of my experience so far.

I live in Saratoga, CA. I bought FSD as an option way back in Jan. 2021 with my Model 3 Perf. I waited and waited and finally got FSD v10.x which was, I thought, horrible. Then Tesla went through many updates until I received v12.3.6 maybe a month or two ago. However, I've not received any updates since then. What gives? I really would like to try v12.5, but for some reason Tesla isn't offering it to my car which means I'm very frustrated! Cheers!
Only hardware 4 has it, while they optimize this version for Hardware 3. Should be out within a few weeks.
