    If it's a superhero, why not show it walking and moving around rather than hanging motionless? The function is more important than the aesthetic, surely.

    "What more do you want?"
    I want it to transform into a space fighter like its namesake.
    Now as for the serious impression - it's probably not quite up there yet with the Atlas, but I expect very rapid improvement. With many concurrent developing programs running, we can expect graceful, multipurpose, autonomous humanoid robots finally starting to make an impact in our everyday lives, not just on Mars or in the military.
    The future is going to be awesome.

    they should put that robot to the test, by sending him to do the DARPA challenges, and if he does good, they could also see what improvements he needs, and I wouldn't be sending that robot to space without knowing more if he is capable, because he is heavy and bulky, they need a robot in space that can bend and move in space freely, it needs to be a design different from a human body, also needs a long grasping hand and arm that can stretch.

    for everyone who keeps complaining about this robots...
    everything has to start somewhere, stop complaining about the bipeds walking flimsy and stuff imagine if your parents shouted at you for not being able to walk while you are only 6 months old
    because that is what you are doing to early biped robots
    you cant just make one instantly walk like a person you know
    it takes trial and error
    research and development...
    science!
    you never start a game lvl 100
    you always start at 1
    that is how learning works
    that is how progress starts
    that is life.....
    and yes i do have a lot of free time XD

    they should make a robot like this controlled with a sensor suit by an human for doing dangerous things like a nuclear reactor meltdown. they don't need programming if they just try to make a sensor suit to one of these (it exists and is used on different places) but of course it would be nice if they could walk on their own. that is important for future robots and especially when they are going far as mars when signals use like 8min to reach. But today they should at least have some few robots controlled by a sensor suit by an human in case things like gas leakage or nuclear meltdown happens so they can just walk in nicely and fix it. Like the event in japan some years ago

    Why are people so focused on creating bipedal robots when balancing on two legs proposes the most technological challenges?

    • @DrragonSlayer
      @DrragonSlayer 9 років тому +2

      Garrett Neal After all, there _is_ a reason Humans evolved into a bipedal form, it's the most efficent design for a lifeform.

    • @OnlifeOfficial
      @OnlifeOfficial 9 років тому +4

      CMDR Drragon It's only efficient if you can balance properly. Think about when you're standing, you may not know it, but your brain is constantly sending signals to your legs to lean slightly left/right/forward/back, where a large combination of muscles work together to stay perfectly upright. This system is very hard to do in robotics, especially when it comes to catching yourself before you start falling.

    • @Telonelemon3

      Because God created man in his image, and now that we are playing God, we will create the robots in our image.

    • @ebn7722
      @ebn7722 9 років тому +1

      Garrett Neal also, I believe that computer cannot do more than one thing at the time, contrary to our brains. That's a big limitation since balance is itself a combination of muscular reflexes and joints/articulation reactions that can all happen at the same time...

    What people must know ... Robots are made for a specific mission. Alright, I must admit that the Asimov's motion is quite impressive at this time but it is not made to work on something in the space! It requires resistance, specific motion degrees ,a certain level of intelligence( the robot must evolve into a hostile environnement, estimate the risks, perform something on their own in case of a communication blackout... etc) it requires also some pre-programmed movements to move smoothly and with accuracy in the space or on another difficult environnement/planet/asteroid and goodness knows what else. Asimo Might be good at interacting with humans or at "entertaining them " but it's a piece of cake compared to the difficulties of a mission in the space...
    Besides, There is clearly a lack of motion capabilities on this Nasa robot but this capacity matter is the easiest one to solve compared to the intelligence, interactions and even the battery!! ...
    Check it out! Take a look to the other robots... Nao, Asimo, Pepper, Boston robotics : Petman ... they have all of them an awesome motion capacity but they are not able to think because intelligence requires much more skill...
