I can't believe cheetah are this much of scary cats.
The scariest thing for them is that they can’t tell where it’s eyes or neck is.
Precisely my thoughts
Or the smell. Maybe smell like any other machine, like oil or metal. Pretty weird to them
Good point!!
Yeah, must be pretty strange for a predator. Even for new prey in a new environment, they can assess them by sight or smell, but they have no idea on this one. Can’t tell if it’s back it’s turned or not, or where it’s vulnerable. It’s just basically an intimidation and assessment situation, but no return on investment on the intimidation factor so assessment is a ???

@@sherryanimallover7506 Well, it is sort of a shit thing to do, but only a little. Mostly I admire how in Australia most people don’t get their panties in a wad over every little thing. Here in California, if someone did this, PETA would demand jail time for everyone involved, and that’s worse.

Those Cheetahs look more confused than anything. Usually when they attack their prey they go for the neck or throat to suffocate it. They were both looking at that robot like "Dude, this thing doesn't even have a head"
They also don't know when to chase. Is the back facing me? Or is that the front and it's simply backpedaling?! SORCERY!!!
That may actually be good for surveillance purposes, can’t hurt a robot, and no people have to go in and possibly be attacked so,

"It doesn't feel pity, remorse, or fear. It absolutely won't stop until you're dead"
Kyle Reese - The Terminator (1984)
I believe the Cheetahs behaved like that because the robot gave no sign of fear whatsoever. Those animals are fine tuned into smelling and seeing reactions in their prey. They could even be able to smell hormonal changes. So if they see no fear response then that signals that the robot is stronger or more dangerous than them, which in turn makes them fear it. That's quite fascinating to observe. Makes me think the whole predator/prey interaction is such a dance. I also loved how at the beginning the 2 cheetahs passed walking as like they were dancing, they were sinched. Metal robot met flesh robots. Very cool!
It's instinct to react with fear/caution in unknown interactions with a strange creature. Best to retreat and avoid direct contact than potentially get hurt. Also why humans aren't ready for aliens lol.

From the cheetah perspective, this would be the equivalent to a horror movie scene. A headless creature with jerky unpredictable movements invading your space.
Cheetahs were like, “I’m looking for the neck, but where’s the neck?”
This is fascinating. One takeaway is that the Cheetahs were not sure how to react to it because they have never encountered a "creature" like it. Cats have strong hunting instincts and those traits are genetic. Even a cat never taught to hunt a mouse can do it. However, nothing like the robot has been passed along in their genetic dispositions and it's a true "data out of range" moment.
what a great comment - we look at all the comments to get more insight- but data out of range is a perfect term

I myself get uncanny valley vibes from the robot also. I think a lot of animals (humans included) are hardwired to be cautious of something that "isn't quite right" or just seems off. Even with my knowledge that this is a robot, that there is nothing wrong with it and there is nothing to be afraid of, there's still something inside of me that really doesn't like how unnatural the robot's movements are.
Additionally, the robot doesn't act like prey, which is also throwing the Cheetah off. Just uncanny and strange all around.
Looks like at 3:07 - 3:10 the cheetah knocked it over. Not easy to see, but stop motion it seems like it

@@Ruzzky_Bly4t don't know how you can't find that creepy, its moves are insect-like.
cheetah acted exactly as a cheetah acts, the way this went down was reminiscent of a honey badger vs a big cat, but i think this was scarier for the cat as it doesn't have it within its Rolodex of instinct that an animal who stands up to them keeps moving its feet ,or maybe that was the part that calmed them down, as it might have signaled "i am standing up for myself but have no intent to harm you"
@@deejayimm I guess some people may find it weird.

Cheetah: “I don’t know what it is, but I hate it.”
The cheetahs are smart and correct to keep their distance. They don't yet know if this thing is venomous, and what threats it poses.
True that. Cheetahs are flighty and delicate animals anyway, they have to be cautious because for a wild cheetah, a debilitating injury is a death sentence.
Or has rabies since it has 0 reaction to their aggressive displays
this video should've been shown to all the crew in Alien Covenant
And neither do humans know the negative scenarios likely to occur with the robot they made. Only at the point of disaster do we find out.
cheetahs do not think this way "is it venomous or not" they don't even know it's a thing
Pretty amazing robot. It’s like a big spider lol.
Cheetah's thinking, why can't I smell you?
It's not about bravery, they're animals that live to either be killed or kill to survive. It's natural instincts to check it out and be cautious about anything they're unfamiliar about. If they just charge in at everything they find unfamiliar, their species wouldn't last till this day.
Animals aren't that stupid.
I think Intelligence is not that required, nor that superior than other means of survival. Even with pretty much stupidly ruthless attitude, there are some ways to survive. As of now I can only think about one example (ratels, which have crazily thick skin to resist attacks), but there are many possible scenarios.

The kids screaming certainly didn’t help the stressful situation. Having cheetahs defend their territory from something unfamiliar is fine and scratches that instinctual itch. However having the the children yell and observe at that time was halfwitted.
Actually, I'm sure they're used to the kids. NOT having them making noise would have been a change in their environment, thus invalidating the test. Remember, these are not wild savannah cats. They're in a zoo.

The handlers were there to ensure the cats didn't harm the device or themselves, and the pilot did their best to test reaction ranges. Very expected when it's filmed with a smartphone.
Exactamudo 💯
These animals can sense fear in their prey. I remember a story about a city boy who didn't know what lions looked like, this was before the internet, he tried to chase them and they feared him instead of attacking him.
When asked why he was chasing them he said they were cows. If he knew they were lions he would have felt fear and in turn, would have caused the lions to attack him.
You got things messed up, bro.
Here's what you fail to factor in:
JESUS CHRIST IS LORD!!!!!!!

Cheetahs are lightly built single hunters. In the wild any injury that slows them for a few days means death. They have evolved to choose their targets very carefully and avoid confrontations that risk injury. They don’t know if this can hurt them so are being appropriately cautious.
Did not expect the robot to go honey-badger mode on the cheetahs.
The thing here is that Cheetahs can not feel/smell the fear or any emotions from a Robodog cuz its a maschine, i think thats why they feel unsecure to approach and tear it apart.
More importantly, I think, they can't smell any steak.
How tf fear smell like..!? 😂😂 They can't smell any flesh and blood that's the reason
@@null2639shw animals fo smell fear, or extreme emotions and uneasiness caused by emotions, especially dogs. Tigers must smell it too but I just know about dogs.
For example, if there’s a thief in group of people, dog will know which one is thief by smelling him and smelling his emotions causing uneasiness etc but trained dog ofc
animals cant smell fear lol thats a myth
they can only "smell" fear from members of the same species, but they can sense fear through things like body language
Cheetah's like "WTAF is THAT thing???"
Cheetah 1 to Cheetah 2: Come hang out over here. We'll wait for his batteries to die.
Cheetah: are you a honey badger? What the hell are you?
This evil must be stopped. The line must be drawn here! No further!
