    Excellent work on the basics, very well done presentation, but do you have any YT videos of complete customization of DVD using Toast 20 Pro? Backgrounds, Templates, chapter button manipulation, etc...? I had a Corel tech help me with Logmein to take over my computer, he couldn't do much of anything. It was really bad. I finally burned a Blu-Ray disc, but I couldn't jump from chapter to chapter using the skip button. I couldn't see the sub menu's of the chapters I created? I hope you can help or point in the right direction? Also the opening menu music always cuts short on the Blu-Ray disc, but in the software it plays all the way through. Just wrong.

      I can add that to my to do list, though.

    Your videos are great. You answer a lot of questions (that Roxio doesn't) - but I'm not finding the answers I need for something... I have a single one-hour video. I want to be able to have a "PLAY" (entire movie) button (chapter?), then a chapter page for select scenes, then a chapter for songs - all using the same video file. I was able to do this in DVD Studio Pro - but have spent the last 3 weeks trying to figure out HOW to do this in Roxio Toast (Titanium 20). Is this even possible - or am I wasting my time?

    • @HeyIvan
      @HeyIvan  Рік тому

      From what I understand about how Toast works is that your chapter marks are like specific time stamps to parts of the whole video. If you want to do a select scene, then you’ll need to make a video that contains only that scene and add it to the DVD menu you build. I believe that’s how commercial DVDs do it, too.

      @@HeyIvan I am having the same issue and I don't believe you answered the question. Is it possible to have a button to play an entire video, and another button to go to the Chapters Menu? When I create chapters, the only way to play the entire video is one chapter at a time. If you have a way of doing this, please let us know!

    Ivan, great video. I used to use Toast about 15-20 years ago and haven't had a need for it since then, but I was asked to create a Blu-ray and DVD masters for a friend's movie, so I bought Toast 20 Pro. I have to tell you, I'm very frustrated. All I want to do is create a custom menu, which I'm pretty sure I did correctly, and then create chapter markers in the video, which I did correctly. Now, when I preview the video, the name of the video does not appear on the main menu page, and when I click on the small box that "previews" the video, it jumps to the chapters page and doesn't play the video. I'm about ready to use a pre-made menu even though I don't want to, but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Also, when I create a custom menu, I can't create 5 rows or 5 columns...the "5" is greyed out. Is it just me? Again, very helpful videos!

      I totally understand. I just bought Pro to see how it stacks up against Titanium and I am a bit underwhelmed. I'll give it a few days, but I'll probably return it.

    curious if there is a limit as to how many "chapters" or selections each menu can contain?

    • @HeyIvan
      @HeyIvan  4 місяці тому +1

      The theme you choose will constrain how many chapters appear on screen, but you can have more than one screen of chapters.
      For example, if your chapter menu has room for 6 thumbnails, then if you had 11 chapters, the first page would have 5 thumbnails. The last position will be a link to the next chapter page that will have 6 thumbnails.

    • @HeyIvan

      The way I describe allows you to have multiple chapter marks that link to the entire video, just at different timestamps that mark the starting point. So, 10 chapters might link to the same video, but just at different points throughout it.

      To answer the second question first, the DVD-Video disc, which I show how to make is a standard definition format, not 1080p.
      You would have to burn to the AVCHD format or BDMV. These formats can be played back on Blue-ray players. The both support higher definition than the standard DVD format.
      If you have Toast Titanium 20, Roxio does offer a High-Def/Blue-ray disc plug-in for around $10 USD.

      I think I understand what you'ere asking:
      Do you need to preserve chapters when ripping a DVD? No, however depending on the app you're using to play the video files back, they can be useful. For example, I use Plex.tv to host my own family movies and stuff. When there are bookmarks, I can see chapter links that jump directly to a time stamp when I swipe my remote while watching the video.
      So, I recommend preserving them as you rip. If you never use them, you're not any worse off for having them be present.

      Thanks for all the background info. It's clear to me that we are using different ripping apps. I'm using Dumbofab DVD Ripper on macOS. My app is Mac only. I think the problem you're running into is trying to upscale the DVD. Standard DVD videos are 480p, and I'm pretty sure they aren't 10-bit color either. According to Wikipedia, DVD-Video supports video with a bit depth of 8 bits per color, encoded as YCbCr with 4:2:0 chroma subsampling.
      I've ripped all of mine using the default H.264 codec. Each DVD for me ends up being around 1 to 3 or 4 GB, depending on how much of the DVD content I rip.
      Here's an article from Tech Radar that summarizes the benefits and limitations of a few different DVD ripping apps for Windows. It looks like the critique of your app is that the free version limits the options you can pick. www.techradar.com/news/the-best-free-dvd-ripper
      For me, I just deal with the original quality video instead of trying to upscale it to higher quality and better colors. To my way of thinking, the data just isn't on the original, so it's unlikely that the quality will get much better than the source. In my own workflow, I aim for the simplicity of converting to a digital format. And I hope that in the future, my video playback tools will become smarter about upscaling low-quality videos for me.

      Good question. I have recently been told, and have verified, that if your Mac sees the chapter marks in a video, Toast will also see them and include them in burn projects, by default. I was thinking there was some difference in Titanium vs Pro, but I was mistaken. Existing chapters in your videos should be respected and retained.
