    Hi Ivan! Thank you so much for creating such helpful videos! I was wondering if you could tell me if Toast will automatically convert video files when you drop them in to create a DVD? I have several mp4 files of old family videos I'm trying to burn to DVD as a gift to my family this year for the holidays. I can use Burn and it does this conversion automatically, but will Toast do the same? I like the additional menu features Toast has so I'm considering getting it, but I need it to convert the files for me to mpg(?) files for DVD (or whatever they're called- sorry, not too tech savvy!) Thanks in advance!

      Yes. Toast will do the same. Cisdem and Wondershare also do the conversion thing. In my videos, I used MP4 videos for my example.

      @@HeyIvan Hi again, Ivan! By chance do you know if Toast's video editor will reduce the quality of videos at all? I'm trying to take a long mp4 that was created from an old VHS tape and just cut it in half essentially. I'm sure I'll have to trim more videos as well with the project I'm doing. I've read some things online that say editing a video file in other programs can reduce the quality when they're exported, so I'm wondering if Toast's internal editor may somehow prevent this? The quality of them already isn't that great because it's from a VHS, so I'm trying to prevent any further quality loss if at all possible before I burn to DVD. Thank you again for your help!

      The short answer, is kinda. The Toast Milti-Cam video editor, which launches an app called "MultiCam Capture and Editing," allows you to combine media from video clips and photos with video captured through cameras into a single place where you can do some limited editing. And, when you finish assembling things the way you want, you can choose to export at several different resolutions, 1080p, 720p, 540p and 480p at a few different framerates.
      If you're considering this, I'd recommend using a different app instead, like iMovie (you probably own this already), Davinci Resolve (free), or Final Cut Pro X ($299) to edit the video and output it with a different quality level.
      Or, you can use a separate DVD encoder app and manually adjust specific video quality settings to find a nice balance between quality and file size. I use Apple's Compressor to do that. It costs around $50 USD. apps.apple.com/us/app/compressor/id424390742?mt=12&v0=www-fcp-compressor-app-compressor-four
      Using a separate encoder will give you the most flexibility, but there is a learning curve.

    Does Roxio toast 20 pro have a dark mode feature?

    • @HeyIvan

      Roxio Toast 20 looked like it would have a dark mode, however Pro is a collection of apps, rather than a pro version of what Titanium is. I'm disappointed.

    I'd love a video on moving the movie off blu-ray to my HD. I've been having dvd players and blu-ray drives get weaker and weaker so I want to back up my movies to my HD

      Are you using an encrypted or commercial disc? If so, I cannot vouch for it. However, I have been using Dumbofab.com as my DVD Ripper to bring data from a DVD disc into a standard MP4 file on my Mac. They also have a Blu-ray ripper, but I haven't tried it. Will add it to my list.
      If you give the free trial a whirl, let me know whether it worked for you.

    So I have an issue I need help sorting out. I have the latest version of Toast 20 and MACOS Sonoma 14.0. Toast has been working fine but I want to create a custom blu ray menu with my own video. The video only can be 30 seconds on a loop. So, I load the video for the background, then choose the 30 second cut. It converts the video and right before it applies, like clockwork it crashes...every single time. Any fix around this specifically to keep it from crashing?

    • @HeyIvan
      @HeyIvan  4 місяці тому +1

      I've found the same trouble on my own videos. I recommend creating a separate 30-second long vide file instead of relying on Toast to convert it for you. When I've fed Toast a short enough video clip it works for me. If I give it something longer, it crashes.
      Let me know whether that works.

      @@HeyIvan yeah that's a good idea, I have been working on that too. I just wasn't sure if someone else had the same issue which is helpful to know that it is a recurring one. Actually, I have another problem that I haven't heard back yet from their support team. When I use one of the templated blu ray backgrounds, and I click on each one to change the background music to an available mp4 file, (apple music file) it lets me upload it but when I go to preview and play each blu ray menu with that music, nothing plays. Do you happen to know why?

    • @HeyIvan
      @HeyIvan  4 місяці тому +1

      @jportman1984 I haven’t run into this myself, but I can try to replicate it on my own.
      I’ve only used the DVD functions. I don’t have a blu ray burner.

    • @jportman1984

      So I did try this by creating a video that is 29 seconds and exactly 30 seconds but the same thing happens...always crashes. In addition to that, I have another problem when I was creating a custom template. When I created the custom design template, then go to apply it to the different parts of the menu and chapters I already have configured, the formatting is all off...way off. And it won't let me change or move the text around so it's not cut into the chapter boxes. This systems seems like its very, very wonky so I'm not sure why this stuff is happening. Very disappointing as I heard great things about Toast and have the Pro version. Also, I can't get support on the phone or email after several attempts.

      @jportman1984 That’s a bummer. I’ll try to reproduce the problem and report back.
      What format are you exporting the video as? I’m doing h.264.

    Hi Ivan, do you know whether Toast 20 Pro will run under macOS 14.2.1 and the Apple M1 Ultra chip? Webpage of the developer says it will support M1 chip but there is no mention of M1 Ultra chip. Also, the developer’s website says Toast 20 Pro will support macOS Monterey and there is no mention of macOS Sonoma.

    • @HeyIvan
      @HeyIvan  6 місяців тому

      I expect that it will work. I'm running a 2019 Intel Mac and am on Sonoma 14.2.1. The Ultra chip *should* work just fine because Apple handles most of the heavy lifting with regard to chip and OS support. If Roxio is touting compatibility with the M1, then I don't think you have anything to worry about. The biggest challenge, at least to me, is compatibility with the operating system.
      They do have a 30-day money back guarantee: kb.corel.com/en/129030
      By the way, you can reach out to their support team to ask directly. Their support team does work, but it's not the best support I've ever received from a company. www.roxio.com/en/support/
      Please do let me know if it works.

      @@HeyIvan I haven’t upgraded yet. Whilst they give 30-day money back guarantee to new customers, they may not offer similar 30-day money back guarantee for existing customer for the upgrade version. I haven’t been using Toast since my last purchase back in 2011 for the old Toast 11 Pro cause I never need to copy any DVD in the last couple of years. However, recently I have received some DVDs that I need to duplicate/copy and that is why I need make sure the app will run under macOS Sonoma before I upgrade. I have submitted all my questions to Roxie Toast support team but no reply from them so far.

      Gotcha. Let me see what I can find out. There are other solutions out there.
      Are you just duplicating the dvds or are you trying to rip and then create your own?

      @@HeyIvan Hi Ivan, hanks!
      As we speak I just need purchased the Toast DVD from Apple App Store and yes I need only to copy DVDs to back up some old family footages.
      The Toast DVD (from Corel, the owner of Roxio) appears to be working just fine with macOS Sonoma now although the speed is very slow.
      I think this is sufficient for my purpose for the time-being. Furthermore, it is safer to get app directly from Apple App Store (screened by Apple) to avoid potential malicious app sold elsewhere.

    • @HeyIvan
      @HeyIvan  6 місяців тому

      You know, I don't think you can. It looks like the chapters use the current frame at the timestamp as the thumbnail image. The feature just doesn't seem to exist.

    I use, and I like Toast, but only for making Blu-rays. When I need to make DVDs, I find Apples iMovie 06 and iDVD 08 to be vastly superior, with iDVD 08 you can make Hollywood style menu systems quite easily. Don't get me wrong, Toast is a good program, but it cannot compare with the ease of use of iDVD 08. In our video lab, we have several Macs "frozen" to OS 10.9.5 for this type of work. iDVD 08 will not work on newer Macs.

    • @HeyIvan
