    The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

      Hell ya and Semper Fi! I never knew that either. I would have thought it would have been a well known fact amongst Marines. They are lucky they didn't get sent to Vietnam. They were in and out before it could happen it seems. I just wonder how many years obligation they had , as in the video above, they apparently just got out of boot from MCRD? Can you imagine being in bootcamp with them? I don't think the DI's were nice to them haha they probably got extra punishment for being famous. True role models for all.

    These guys were firmly in the tradition of the Louvin Brothers, close harmonies! The Beatles acknowledged their debt to the Everly Brothers harmony singing.

    I'll never let you see
    The way my broken heart is hurting me
    I've got my pride and I know how to hide
    All my sorrow and pain
    I'll do my crying in the rain
    If I wait for cloudy skies
    You won't know the rain from the tears in my eyes
    You'll never know that I still love you
    So though the heartaches remain
    I'll do my crying in the rain
    Raindrops falling from heaven
    Could never wash away my misery
    But since we're not together
    I look for stormy weather
    To hide these tears I hope you'll never see
    Someday when my crying's done
    I'm gonna wear a smile and walk in the sun
    I may be a fool
    But till then, darling, you'll never see me complain
    I'll do my crying in the rain
    I'll do my crying in the rain
    I'll do my crying in the rain

      True, most music that comes roughly through MSM really not very good at all. But in specialized channels you can find very good music output of every genre. For example, if you type *BLUES* in *YT's* search bar, you can find all kinds of really kickass present day BLUES performers there. Same for every other kind of music.

    • @TomElvisSmith
      @TomElvisSmith 2 роки тому +4

      As Mostly Brenda mentioned, Buddy Knox is another example, as are the Del Vikings. Off the top of my head, other examples are Eddie Fisher, Gary Lewis and Bobby Rydell.

    • @shyman99
      @shyman99 2 роки тому +4

      Not sure they interrupted their careers as that suggests they made the choice. From 1940 until 1973, during both peacetime and periods of conflict, men were drafted to fill vacancies in the United States Armed Forces that could not be filled through voluntary means.

    • @TomElvisSmith
      @TomElvisSmith 2 роки тому +3

      @@shyman99 That's right. Most of the singers listed didn't have a choice; they were drafted.

    • @Petemonster62

      Tommy Roe, Lou Christie, Frankie Lymon, & Clyde Mcphatter were drafted into the Army. The Del Vikings formed while they were in the Air Force. One of Dion & The Bellmont's was in the Navy & a part-time member of the group. The Essex were in the Marines. Gene Vincent was just out of the Navy when he started, Conway Twitty was just out of the Army when he started.

My Senior DI showed up one day with the pizza box, and the day before he had expert.. he was pissed off about that for a while haha so he really leaned on us to shoot better.

    The Everly Brothers and R Lee Ermey were in boot camp at MCRD, SD Ca. at the same time I was in boot camp at MCRD, PI, SC. However, I never had the pleasure of meeting either of the three. I was aware of who the Everly Brothers were at the time. But...for the 'Gunny'...well he was then like me, not famous. I was one year older than 'Gunny', he having enlisted at age 17, but his serial number was lower than mine, making him senior to me. Now, I miss them equally...as US Marine Corps Brothers-In-Arms.

    From Wikipedia…
    The song was the only collaboration between songwriters Greenfield and King, both of whom worked for Aldon Music at the time of the song's composition. On a whim, two Aldon songwriting partnerships decided to switch partners for a day - Gerry Goffin (who normally worked with King) partnered with Greenfield's frequent writing partner, Jack Keller, leaving King and Greenfield to pair up for the day. Despite the commercial success of their collaboration, King and Greenfield never wrote another song together.[2]
