Can you imagine being in bootcamp with them? I don't think the DI's were nice to them haha they probably got extra punishment for being famous. True role models for all.
My grandpa and I used to listen to these guys all the time and I loved them so much. I lost my Grandpa yesterday. He lived to be 80 years old, and he fought in the Vietnam War. He’s the greatest Marine I’ve ever met

Watching in November 2024. My husband and I saw them in concert in Manchester, England many many years ago and they didn't disappoint. How we miss their brilliance.❤

I didn't know they served our country as Marines either, that's a great tribute that the Everly Brothers served, as well as Elvis. One of the best singing and guitar playing duos of all time, the Everly Brothers are the all time greats of rock and pop music. They were my favorites as a young kid, and Buddy Holly as well.

I was an auxiliary police officer in Brooklyn in the 80s and they were doing a summer show for Marty Markowitz and I was assigned to guard their dressing room. Phil came out and had a smoke and we spoke for quite a while about music as I am also a musician. We talked about the Beatles. Then Don came out and they were ready to go on. Didn't get a chance to talk with Don but Phil was a very nice man. ❤.

Semper Fi Marine! I agree completely . I went in 3 days after high school with out question. and the fact that they did it at the peak of their success , like Elvis and the rest, shows the men that they were. True role models. I wish I could have met them and told them "Semper Fi ".
I used to listen to these guys all the time when I was in grade school. I am 67. I ended up singing lead vocal for years in bands and never had a rock and roll voice. I was so used to the 50's and 60's sounds that I loved that type of vocal.
I never knew they’d served in any branch of the military; I guess I should not be surprised because the military service was a ‘required obligation’ when I was young. I am very impressed however with their talent and ability (& with Ed Sullivan for showing it on his television show)...
They volunteered to serve in the Corps. Even then it was The Few, The Proud, The Marines. I’m a retired Marine Vietnam combat veteran and proud of all athletes and entertainers who took timeout from their careers to serve their country.
Loved learning about and listening to the Everly brothers growing up. They were a bit before my time. They influenced giants like Simon and Garfunkel and Lennon and Mcartney as well as their own beautiful hits! A great legacy!

I saw them live on stage about 20 years ago at the Melody Tent in Hyannis, Ma. I've loved the Everly Brothers music since I was a kid. I'm 74 in 2023 and still love their music. Probably the best act to ever come out of Kentucky.

The influence of the Everlys on other artists is profound. I still can’t figure out how they did the harmony. Their voices are almost identical, and yet they created a unique sound.
My dad was in boot camp at the same time as them. He was working chow line when one of them came through and asked my dad for more food. Dad said that everyone got equal portions. He asked my dad if he knew who he was; dad was a fan of theirs, but shrugged and served the net guy in line 😄
When I was in training in the RAF in 1959 we ate as much as we wanted. We could ask for as many helpings as we were able to eat. I'm surprised the US Marines were stingy. The Americans always had more of everything. We were very much the poor relations.

I’m a British Army Infantry Veteran, but we who’ve served and those still serving in HM Armed Forces just get on with the job even with the poor equipment we are given. Even some of the food given to our Servicemen/Women today is shocking, outsourced to Sodexo. Where are the Military Chefs we once had? Cut backs…….that’s where they’ve gone!! Always had great food back in the day, from what I’ve seen and heard from serving Personnel is that food is expensive and in most cases vile.

I was literally 120 lbs and they told me daily, "if you lose one pound your going on double rations" and I saw them making other guys eat double (and then throw it up on the 3+ mile run after chow) and didn't want that so I ate as much as I could. and after boot , in the fleet, if you were not in the first 50 guys in the Chow Hall, you were going to eat lima beans and onions. no joke. they never had enough food in the chow hall.
