totally over rated, average musicians with huge egos, never really took off, what did they achieve that's memorable? led zeppelin were on a completely different level.
@mikejohnson2638 no Cream, no J.H. Experience/Zepp/Mountain etc etc etc etc THAT'S how much of an impact they had. Anybody who was ANYBODY were blown away by Cream including Page, Beck, The Beatles...the list goes on and on
The trouble with the band Cream is that despite all being brilliant musicians and they really were.. They didn't get on with each other.. Well mostly Ginger and Jack. Eric was happy to just go along with it all.. It's such a shame because they were definitely England's first supergroup and us fans would have loved to see a few more years out of the band.. I don't know enough about Jacks character. Some say he wasn't an easy guy to get on with.. Despite being an exceptional bassist and vocalist.. But from everything I have read and heard about Ginger... Again despite being one of the best rock /blues /jaz drummers we had ever seen and heard he was a hard person to get along with .
The fact that they all did speed back then to get through the grind would not have contributed much in terms of getting along. Crashing on speed is brutal and having to be locked into a tour for months would have been over the top brutal. This was not unique to them. Speed was pretty common back then an most bands did it to be able to survive the grind of the road.
Clapton was too stoned to argue with anyone at that stage, once he was a full blown alcoholic in the seventies he became a little more vocal with his views.
pleased to hear Eric say what he did about the post-Waltz Band saw them half a dozen times, mostly in small venues, twice w/in 20 yards and fully agree with what he says here ... 2 person marriages take care, patience, effort to sustain, it ain't easy the divorce rate is what it is for real reasons, triangles are even harder a band on the road is a 3, 4, 5 or whatever #persons marriage so no surprise the divorce rate is what it is, & even the kindest+closest split up bands that last for decades impress me, & even those have casualties
So Baker and Bruce already couldn’t stand each other before Cream was even conceived. That I did not know. Thank goodness they got past it. Because as decent a singer as Clapton is, Jack Bruce was far superior. Without that voice, the band would not have been nearly as successful
Jack and Ginger were actually in a band together before Cream. They hated each other so much even then that Ginger had threatened Jack with a knife once. Nevertheless, they agreed to try to work together again as Cream because they respected each other's talent. They tolerated each other for the music--or maybe it was the money and fame.
Only trio in rock to be in the same thoughts would be Jimi. But-What Cream had was both respected- and seasoned jazz musicians who were trained on ensemble playing. So in my opinion the -interaction between Eric, Jack and Ginger was (and never will be surpassed ) in the realm of rock and blues. They were a rather loud jazz trio - with a touch of amplification …What a wonderful time to be exposed to a remarkably great band as the beginning guitarist. ❤
Not taking anything away fror Eric, but he was not a jazz guitarist, such as a John McLaughlin was.. Eric at that time period basically was copying Freddie King and as Eddie Kramer said in Mojo Magazine years ago, Eric was fortunate that hardly anyone had heard Freddie King and his aggressive style of playing either. Jack and Ginger were trained jazz musicians. You all should listen to Brian Auger and the late Chris Squire speak about the impact that Hendrix had on Clapton, Beck. Alvin Lee when he first arrived. Here was a black American playing black American music and therefore, he could get deeper into that style of American blues that English boys could who got their blues by listening and copying American blues musicians,

Eric pushed a blues based agenda in the beginning - I still think Fresh Cream was their best album. After that the messing started with a greedy management trying to move them to a pop agenda. They were always a well oiled machine and did some great music.
The bad side of that is when you band with people whose playing you just like, then the band isn't going to last long OR at least not be pleasant (the ramones, cough).
For my money/time, Clapton's best days were with Cream. Yes, great solo career but I think he went soft. He really lost me with the white suit in the 80s. Since Cream, his playing never sounded like he was reaching.
A supernova, what great music these guys created.
One of the greatest bands to launch a million bands, of all time 👍🙏

Amazing band. Maybe my favorite. If not right there. So much talent and passion.
How he survived a few albums with Baker is incredible.
Love Ginger, but put him in an orange suit and he’s indistinguishable from a serial killer interviewed behind bars.
It's too bad that Baker and Bruce were so toxic towards each other. Cream was such a badass band! 👍
I remember seeing Cream in the sixties at the fillmore east in new york. I think it was in the sixties . Absolutely fantastic
Lol I was there as well. Clapton had his back to the audience for most of the show.
@mystic7splace let them have their fantasy. I saw them at the village.
Did these videos just surface?? Never seen. Good stuff
Rip Ginger..😢

I watched Ginger’s documentary, imo he was a self indulgent a-hole who hated everyone while loving himself.
Wasn’t a pretty sight
I can’t hear Ginger talk without Pressed Rat & Warthog running through my head; “They went straight ‘round the corner and they never came back…”.
It wasn't Ginger's band. It wasn't a dictatorship or a democracy, it was three super competitive guys against the world and sometimes each other.
Eric Clapton is on record calling it Gingers band so your argument is with him I guess.
Ginger put it together, and Eric wanted Jack…the rest is history 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Ginger formed it so its his band
@@Horsemanray Eric is being polite.

My top 3, and it no particular order; Hendrix, Cream and Beatles. To me, they are all #1.
Cream, Beatles, Hendrix… just because Cream laid the foundation for Hendrix, and the Beatles are the Beatles 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
The Masters...
They certainly had the right name for the band. Not sure who came up with it. The reunion concert at The Royal Albert Hall was fantastic!

Baker and Clapton played with Steve Wood in Blind Faith after Cream

Clapton hasn’t learned anything musically since the sixties. Overrated for sure.
Epic 80s stage appearances too..
