Maybe he was abused/touched at the carnival? Being a child and unable to compartmentalize what happened to him, it would make sense for a child to create an imaginary friend as a coping mechanism. It also makes sense given Leo didn’t “appear” until after the carnival. Idk just a thought

And being the creepy humans we are were selling popcorn and balloons at the scene?
