My mom was picked up by Rodney when she was hitch hiking in 1976. If you google “Rodney Alcala girl in orange bikini” that’s her. He took her pictures in Topanga Canyon and got them a hotel room to sleep in for the night. She started to get creeper vibes from him, so she told him she would hang back while he went to get them food. While he was gone, she took off and got away from him.
Also, while they were in the canyon, he kept trying to get her to go further into the canyon. She convinced him to stay where they were because the lighting was better. In reality, she wanted to stay where people could see them because she had a feeling he might’ve tried to hurt her if they went further down.

One Sunday I saw what looked like a man struggling to unlock an apartment door in my complex. On Monday I called the manager. The thing that kept occurring to me, throughout this video, is how many parallels I see between him and Ted Bundy. Smart, charismatic, great smile, super creep, could talk his way into or out of anything. The way he spanned the nation. The cockiness, the escapism, even the way he represented himself, as though he would do a better job than actual lawyers. Didn't even have a really fuhked up childhood. Idk. I don't have a point, other than that his story reminded me a lot of Ted Bundy.

The girls lived just a couple of blocks from the beach. The neighbor saw them, and came over and asked if the girls were ok. Rodney took off running immediately. So it's possible that no one would have approached them if the neighbor hadn't seen these girls she knew with Rodney.
