  • Hey Horse Lovers! In this video, we dive into a comprehensive equine wellness plan that covers the various aspects of caring for multiple horses. From the importance of farrier visits to equine dental care, chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy, and tailored nutrition plans, each component contributes to the overall well-being of the horses. This detailed guide will outline the key considerations and practices involved in maintaining the health and happiness of a herd of equines. Caring for a herd of 11 horses involves a holistic approach to equine wellness. Regular farrier visits are essential to maintaining healthy hooves and proper foot balance. Equine dental care is another crucial aspect that should not be overlooked, as dental issues can affect a horse's overall health and performance. Incorporating equine chiropractic sessions can aid in maintaining proper spinal alignment and mobility, while equine massage therapy promotes relaxation and muscle recovery. Furthermore, a well-rounded equine nutrition plan tailored to the specific needs of each horse is paramount. Providing a balanced diet rich in essential nutrients ensures optimal health and vitality for the entire herd. By focusing on all these components - farrier care, dental health, chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy, and nutrition - horse owners can create a comprehensive equine wellness plan that promotes the well-being of their horses. Thank you for sharing all your vast knowledge. I rode horses as a kid with my babysitting money. Lol. Then, as a young adult, I took some lessons. Life got busy with marriage and kids, so I only occasionally rode. I never gave up on the dream of being around horses. The thing I missed was the knowledge of really caring for horses. I'm now retired and volunteering at a barn that has an equine assisted mental health program. Volunteers sign up for either morning or evening shifts to feed, clean stalls, let the horses out, or bring them in. I really appreciate your videos. I absolutely love it being at the barn!!!

I owned horses when I was much younger (almost 73) and I have to admit that 55 years ago, except for a salt block and trimming hooves or replacing shoes and brushing on Neat’s hoof oil for dryness) the people I knew (and me) did none of the things you do for your horses. I grew up in a town in western Kansas and my friends & I boarded our horses close to town & rode after school and on weekends. During the hot summers, we’d get up at the crack of dawn and ride then. Imagine teenagers setting our alarms to go ride! Now, I get my dogs teeth cleaned and we didn’t do that way back then either! Health improvements for ALL animals.

I'm just in awe at how well you treat your horses. I've been to a few different schools as I've moved around and for the most part it's all the same. They get fed, groomed, farrier vet dental etc but no one normally cares about massages and adjustments. I think you're incredible and all your horses must be so so happy and relaxed. Beauty seemed to be having a great time with (possibly) her first ever massages!

That’s my story too, even the same age! Little girls love horses! This video was very eye opening as to the cost involved in keeping healthy horses. We adopted our first rescue dog 3 years ago and that has been quite an expense too. Allergies leading to yearly ear infections, regular vet upkeep with exams, tests & vaccinations & a yearly dental. But we love her to bits💖

You're right horses are a luxury. They need a ton of care, hoofs, teeth, shots, worming, vet visits, and a host of other costs. Don't get them if you can't give them the care they need, its time consuming and expensive to keep them healthy.

I am 75 now, sadly not physically or financially able to have a horse. However, I spent 40 years owning horses. I was an owner, trainer, and farrier. Yes, in the 1970s I was one of only a few female farriers and was even written up in the newspaper! Had to stop when was pregnant. I also led a 4H club, amd camped and traveled with my horses. I also taught elementary school. Was very busy, and loved it! People will remember me for my aged self, and not for my former life. You are very much what I wanted to achieve in life, but crap happened. 💩 Apreciate life now everyone. Tomorrow cannot be predicted. Love horses!!!! ❤

Ha!, like for us kids, horsey tooth care was a bit brutal in the old days. I remember the Farrier using a twitch before knocking out Wolf teeth with the mallet and something? I don't think it was a chisel but it was like? Poor horsey was most miffed (and me too!). His poor soft nose! Our Farrier was old but good and very knowledgeable but I do remember he had to be told not to whallop my young fidgety horse with the clippers. Nudging ninety he didn't have the patience he once had as a younger fitter man.
Regular tooth filing was also without sedation, but it did the job. We learned you could waste a fair bit of money on expensive feed if you didn't attend to the teeth. Why was horsey losing weight when he was eating for England I wanted to know? Our friendly Farrier asked if he was dribbling his food everywhere and when I said, he was, he said he'd bring his tools and do the filing. Later it was the Vet doing the Dentistry but still, sedation was for possibly richer fancier folks than we were? No power tools either!

When our children were growing up my (non horsey) husband wanted to them ponies but I (horse nut) said no because you have to be really passionate about horses to take that responsibility on. However we did get an opportunity to have a super kind pony and he was a fabulous introduction to years of riding for two of our children. The way you look after your horses should be the bar for all horse owners.

The expenses do not stop with the purchase of the animal. I think this is one of your finest videos. As your video shows there is much that goes into owning and meeting the responsibility of caring for a horse. The horses needs must come first. Keep these types of videos coming as they are a teaching tool and might help others who need encouragement and understanding as to what it really takes to call themselves a horse owner.

BEST VIDEO!!! Thank you for sharing all of these necessary components of equine care and wellness. They are vital. Even before/after riding your horse you can prepare beforehand/conclude afterward with stretching and massaging them. You are a great example to follow Shae. Your horses are healthy and happy. ❤️

You take such excellent care of all your horses Shae. You showed everything that should be done to keep your horses happy, healthy, and fit. Too many people buy a horse thinking they can just throw them out in a pasture and they will be just fine, WRONG, some have absolutely no clue about their horses diet, and what all the damage pasture feeding (non stop) can do to not only their gut health, but also to their feet (hooves) excellent presentation of what the horses whole body needs! Thank you for sharing this very important video. Love and God Bless 💜 ✝️ Jennifer

It clearly shows how much you love your horses. I can only imagine how much it costs to care for these beautiful animals, but it pays big dividends in the long run. And by the way, between the different shots of the stalls, the new ones look so beautiful as compared to the old ones. I only wish you had the chandeliers on to see the full effect of the make-over.

I cannot thank y'all enough for making and sharing this video. All of which I aspire to do with my future herd 🐎 I don't have a herd or any horses YET.
$800 for horse dental is a good chunk of money 💰 In my perspective it's realistic. I recently took my cats to the vet in March 2024. Wellness exams for all 6 of them. Everything was great, only 2 of them required dentals 🦷 which was not completely surprising because they chew the least.
Vet here in southern Texas quoted me $800 per cat 🙀 Same price you paid per horse!!! 🐴 🦷 No serious work either, THANK HEAVENS 🙏🏻 yeah $800 for just normal maintenance and dental cleaning per cat 🤯 I have never had cat and/or dog dentals that pricey before. I am more than happy to do it. It just blows my mind it's the same price as you just paid for a horse dental.
    Blessed be 🌈🫂

Gosh, Shea, both of your farriers use the BEMER! I've had my equine BEMER since 2017, when they came to the U.S.....and none of my farriers use it, much less believe in it.🙄 So, I just do my thing for my Mustang mare. She loves it! I love mine too. :) But, what I'm surprised about is that it isn't affecting the farriers. I've heard some horse owners say they can't be too close to the BEMER when it's on their horse, especially when on the high mode. I have loved equine massage and chiropractic, since using it on a rescue back in 2003.
I was just listening to the 7part series from University of Kentucky, head of parasentology, who said they have a herd of horses (test herd) that haven't been wormed since 1979. They are healthy and they haven't ever had an issue with them. He went over all the parasites and how most wormers aren't working anymore from overuse. I'm trying Silver Lining Herbs and worming with the full moon. But, I loved that you went to a forage-based feed. I've been feeding my Mustang mare a forage diet for years, trying to keep her as close to what she'd find in the wild...and adding minerals. When I adopted her as a 2yo 16yrs ago, it was horrible finding feeds without soy, which kills her hormonal system. Plus, my normal laid back mare, anything with grain, she becomes like a kid on a sugar high. I was using Big Sky Minerals out of Ohio, but since I moved to NE Texas, I've had to find another mineral blend, because it had added iron and selenium. The iron down here in the water is horrendous, and it's done a number on her frogs. I'm loving the Vermont Blend (no iron/selenium)...and lucky she is too! I tried another mineral blend, but it had anise oil. To say she hated it was an understatement.😅 I had been trying to get my friends when I lived in Southern PA to move to forage. The one friend finally did last year with outstanding results with her OTT. I agree about the pellets! I used Standlee timothy pellets for yrs and they were getting harder and harder to soak. Plus, found out several of their feeds now have added canola oil. I switched to a timothy cube with a little beet pulp, all non-GMO, from Triple Crown. Not the first time I heard about Unbeetable, lately, but I have to stick to a true forage grass base. Love your mindset about so many things, especially them being out 24/7! Always enjoy your videos.😊

I enjoy watching you train them and explain how and why you train them, take care of them, feed them, give them nutrients, etc. They are very lucky horses and it shows how knowledgeable and loving you are with your horses. So interesting about grass! Obviously wild herds are mostly on mature, weedy, lower sugar grasses, and traveling more miles, so what seems "natural" isn't really the same as being cooped up on a small rich pasture!

I always learn so much from your videos. Thank you for covering so many topics. I did have questions...but you answered them all. Part of me is sad that there was so much I did not know as a kid and young adult when I had horses. Even the vets and farriers at the time seemed to not know, either (as I reflect back) ...and I have regrets, even though for the era, I did much better than most for my horses. Horse 4-H taught us nothing! We learned nothing about care. It was all about getting ready for a horse show...practicing our "drill team" maneuvers...and that's it. Sad.

I tell you Shae, what I would have given to have someone like you to help me out with my first horse. I learned by trial and error. Nobody has any excuse not to take care of their horse, or any pet for that matter. Between the internet & FaceTime etc, you can research easier etc. Having someone like you that spreads their knowledge is like receiving gold. I had the farrier, the vet but I never gave a thought to message. Also so much more is known about what is needed in their diet. Happy Horse, Happy Owner😊thanks Shae. Take care

I live in the most densely populated horse and rider area in Scotland .
This time of the year it is ride out season . When each local town chooses a laddie and lass to ride the bounds .
This is a cavalcade ride with upwards of 300vhorses who ride every day to different villages were they stop for tea .
And dance a Scottish Gig . This dates from the 17th Century when there were livestock thieves called raiders so the people of the village rode to the county boundaries . Now its a festival of the horse that starts in May and each towns chosen leaders ride out for a whole season .
The ares is hilly and to see a cavalcade of horse come over the hill .
Celebrating history and Scottish Culture banners high .
Maybe field trip and a unique experience for your advanced riders Shae .
