Horses are an enormous commitment, so be as picky as you need to be. They can live decades, they are expensive to maintain, they require constant care and love. Think of it this way: Horses are much nicer than cars, but you wouldn't spend that much money on a car without having a good mechanic certify it as roadworthy, and be able to drive it to see how it goes. I have a compliment for you as well. The fact that you look at horses with an eye toward train-ability, temperament, age, and soundness is absolutely lovely. I've known people who are entirely wrapped up in breeds, and pedigrees seem to be all that matters to them. Not that owning a pedigreed horse is wrong, but in my own personal opinion, I don't care what breed an animal happens to be---I care about their personalities and their souls. I care about their health and their happiness. Good confirmation, gait, and strength aren't the sole domain of pedigrees. Beauty is in the eye of the horse lover.

Hi Shae. Not a horse owner (yet), just a horse lover. I learn so much from your posts. You not only show us the fun stuff (riding), and the not so fun stuff (barn maintenance), but you also offer so much education and great advise. Horses are a commitment! When you point out a concern you have with an auction horse it becomes more noticeable to someone like me who wouldn't catch those details. I also really love your positive reinforcement style of training. You keep teaching and we'll keep learning how to be good horse lovers! BTW... I'm off work today doing my holiday decorating and I'm rockin' my Whinny Wine lipstick. Just for me!❤

I was lucky when we had our 10 horses They came from two very wonderful sources. There were no issues with health or temperament. Our horses were safe. I was used to that environment as a standard and it was only when I got out into the world that I became aware of what I consider lower ones. Being picky has many benefits, not the least of which are safety concerns which, to me are paramount, not only for oneself, but for anyone else who rides one's horses. Your horses are happy; that can only have good outcomes on a number of levels. Your pristine commitment can only benefit these animals. I would not let anyone talk you out of that uniqueness because you are not surrounded by others that are like you. You may never be. But you can always count on yourself in this regard. I think you are going to find the right horse for Kyle, etc. It's cute how they like him. Horses are a never ending source of pleasure. Thank you for sharing. ❤

My sister is looking for a gypsy vanner. Sorta. She really doesn't have the time to hunt one down, but she wants one. There are breeders down here in Texas, but rarely anything broke and ride ready for an experienced rider, but older. She avoids the auctions. She doesn't have time to browse, do research and doesn't want to end up with someone's 'throw away.' I mentioned your UA-cam channel a couple times, but I don't think she's looked at it yet.

I agree with you on auction horses, you can’t just buy to buy and you have to go to them with a level mind and really know what to look for. Buyer beware couldn’t be more true at an auction.
The Clyd/Gypsy was cute, but I wasn’t crazy about the gait either, just looked off to me. Crazy he went for that high. On the Big Paint, as soon as I saw it try to lay down in the ring with the rider, that was a red flag for me. Horses that do that are not safe and can take a lot to train them out of that habit if you can train them to not do that at all.
I respect your decision here and I think you will find better horses in future auctions. Good luck!

Diego's left back leg bothered me. And there was something off with the paint's head carriage and neck. The dog that was loving on you was adorable.

Wow. The Gypsy/Clyde is my DREAM horse! 😍 I saw exactly what you were talking about (thru teary eyes😢), but my dumb ass prob would have paid anything for him! Merry Christmas to me! 😊 Tho, knowing me, I'd be super discerning like you. Absolutely nothing wrong with that! So many nice horses, wish I was there, even just to "window shop". Can't wait til you find a new member of the FSE herd 💜🇨🇦

Dog person here, Aussies specifically, and we are a movement breed. Watching Deigo move there just was something that wasn't great, I think you made a very wise decision to pass on him.

Thank you for the great vids. I haven't caught up with the latest and may have missed some info. Wanted to ask... have you thought of bidding for others? Some of us too distant to travel to your area, may be interested in purchasing ponies/horses for 'through' you. No health guarantees expected, of course. A sort of auction within an auction ? I am trying to find a way to help rehome more horses here in our area - many come from kill pens or owners who 'just can't do this anyome'. But, we rarely find as many "nice' auction horses here. Just thinking out loud...

You are doing your do diligence and you never need to apologize for being a educated buyer. Please don’t let the “Karen’s” out there poke at you for your being a smart educated buyer…❤

PG here, The Clydesdale/Gypsy I know nothing about horses except what you teach but it seemed like his back leg on the left side had a cartilage problem. I have a finger that does that.
