WHAT IT WAS LIKE TO SURF THE EDDIE WITH 100,000 PEOPLE ON THE BEACH, BIGGEST WAIMEA BAY EVER (60FT)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
- The Eddie Aikau big wave invitational 2023 was crazy! Not only was it the biggest Waimea Bay we have ever seen with nonstop closeouts across the whole bay but the chaos on the beach was crazy! there was about 100,000 live spectators packed into Waimea. This was really something I've never seen before. Like this video and Subscribe to the Channel!

When professional bug wave surfers are impressed and have their phones out recording, you know it's huge. Mad props to these men and women
What a freaking awesome video again Koa and Jack! You guys gave us an insiders view again and it was STELLAR! Loved every minute of this one and especially at the end of the day when the boys all got together and had a beer. You guys are freaking warriors and mad respect for all of you!
Bug 😂😂😂😂😮
Dude when the guys that have the multi million dollar mansions that have nothing to do but surf start recording, you know, this is about to matter for 7 hours.
Might be my favorite video on your channel yet. The energy was nuts! Thanks for taking us along
Amazing.
L
Agreed!
agreed, totally epic!
This is the sickest surf video on UA-cam. Way to document the event Koa and Jack!
Such a great behind the scenes account of the event. I felt like I was there!
Check out the best wave footage from the event here: ua-cam.com/video/zZqxPozl2Ec/v-deo.html
Couldn’t agree more. The energy of the whole day was insane. Love those dark mornings full of nervous energy/ excitement.
Yeah to be honest I've never experienced anything like that. I legitimately forgot that I was sitting in my car in a parking lot. When I came back to it actually f****** shock the hell out of me. I legitimately did not think I was where I was at. I've never had that happen before.
What an incredible experience! Thanks for taking us along. The Eddie is definitely more than a contest.
I watched the entire broadcast Sunday. Thanks so much Koa and crew for bringing this view. So epic. Mind blown.
This was such an awesome video. I'm a 65 year old woman who used to surf alot back in the 70s down in socal, and I don't even pretend to know what a typical day of surfing is like for you guys, let alone the Eddie!
This day was amazing, the crowds, people cheering for ya
..whoa!!! Happy to see you doin it to the fullest and having a great time and paying tribute to the goat! So fun that you take us on such personal journeys with these videos!
Never in my wildest did I think at this age, 50 years later haha, that your channel was gonna become my favorite on you tube, im frikkin lovin it dude!
Much love and mad respect to all of you from this forever fan!
Omg this was so much fun and you're so sweet to your fans there on the beach too...just awesome! 🏝😎❤
That's the best insight into the day I've seen from a competitors perspective. A1! Thank you!
You and your boys will remember and relive this day forever. Stories will be told for decades. The good news is you won't have to increase the size of the waves. They were massive. Congrats to all.
That cop was definitely NOT channeling his inner Eddie
But he was being realistic and it sucks that he was criticized.
@28th St. Air it may have been the reality, but he coulda been a bit more aloha about it. Can you imagine this happening in any other sport?
@@hands_on_lanzon I wasn’t there so I can’t really speak to exactly what was happening, but it sure looked like complete chaos, regardless of the sport, and Koa wasn’t making matters any better by trying to split lanes and get to the front. I totally get his frustration, but it was a screwed situation for everyone involved, including the cop, whose priority was safety and not getting surfers to their heats on time. The cop was in an impossible situation. The organizers should have done more to help manage traffic, to ensure that surfers could get to the event.
@28th St. Air super fair..splitting the lane is crazy. Just thinking how NBA and NFL players would definitely be getting a police escort.
He was all “Eddie wouldn’t do that”
I don’t surf. I’ve never seen a surf board in person. I live in the hell that is Mn in the winter. I never miss a Koa Rothman video. So sick. I’m so impressed with you all!! Amazing commitment and focus on such a gorgeous sport! Very jealous very inspiring. The ocean really is life!
lol wtf
great insiders view of insane scene...
congrats koa!
@@firstgear8022 yes my friend?
@@Kennoisewater123 man you gotta try surfing man. probably the best adrenaline rush you can feel!
Love love love the content, your attitude and humility. I don't know how you paddle such monstrous waves. RESPECT.
You, Nate, Billy, Eli, John John, Kai L, Koa S, have naturally formed the most inspirational crew. Thank you 😊
Don't forget Ivan! Keep your eye on Ivan!
@Tom Mathews absolutely👌💥
After I posted I palmed my face and said, "You forgot Ivan!"
Thank you for the correction 🙏 🤙
@@seblivefloormanager Yes sir. Being a goofy, I think Ivan will be a Pipe Beast for years to come! Huge advantage being front side there, and he knows the break better than anyone else his age.
@Tom Mathews he is going to be the silent assassin for sure! No doubt Ivan will win big soon, humble and so talented. Love these guys. I've been out of the water for a long time, had my hip replaced after 19 years of internal mutation, discovered Nate's channel, and the Billy Kemper doco, and now I'm back in the water and so grateful for every video this crew have posted and continue to post. Their lo-tech podcast is the best! Their comraderie, skill and love pours from the screen like Pipe going off 🤗🎉✨️👌
@@seblivefloormanager Hope the hip is behaving nicely! All the best!
What an accomplisment! And a great life-lesson in not stressing, being positive and enjoying the moment! Congrats! 🍻
Damn bro that was a mental day! I was stressing big time for you trying to make it to check in, can't believe how well you handled it and stayed calm. That one you got in the second heat was all time, thanks so much for taking us along!
Still can't believe I flew out from Cali without knowing the Eddie was going to be on! By far one of the best experiences ive had, it was crazy! And managed to get a pic with this legend.
Damn, whatta madhouse Brah!
REALLY fun to watch, though.
The waves were PUMPING!
The swells were KILLER monstrous!
Some people got totally backwashed away, watching all the action.
And, those Ke'iki Beach bungalows took a bit of a beating too.
Damn.
Whatta day!
The Aikau family is amazing. In their darkest days, they were able to come up with an amazing event to keep Eddie's memory alive. 💙🌊
Great surfing Koa!! Great surfing by all. This was the best Eddie with regards to how many waves all the surfers were able to catch.
Mahalo Jack & Koa for sharing your whole Eddie day with all of us. Aloha 🌺
ps Ross Clark Jones still RIPPPPS!!! 💪🏄♂
So sick! Congratulations on even being invited to this event. You’re one of the top surfers on the planet. Being invited to the Eddie makes it so. It was historic! Best contest I’ve ever seen! Right after the shootout too! 100k on the beach and 100k watching the livestream!!
That's mad how many people were there and it was great that they were all cheering you as you went through the crowd! Great video - fantastic insight to what sounds like an epic and historic event! (From England).
So sick watching all the boys that grew up surfing together having the beer at the end. Respect to all of you for going out there!
Oh yeah- can you mention the women too??? It’s about time!!
@@kikiandkristeradams9195 oh please
Drinking the right beer bruh! Congrats you all are still alive. That was epic. Thanks again for the show. I hope it happens next year.
Holy hell. This is the best there is... period. so many levels... checked all the boxes.
You and Jack nailed it. What an innovation...
We are all so thankful for this perspective. Wow.
No words.
CONGRATS LUKE YOU DESERVED IT!...MAHALO FOR KEEPING THE BEACHES & PEOPLE SAFE!!!#eddiewouldbeproud🙏🤙
Dope. But blondie doing everything to be in every shot.
Wow! It's like we were VIP guests of Koa's! Great behind the scenes footage! Thanks so much!
2 things that suprised & impressed me:
1. How massive the waves were
2. How massive the crowds were
Probably one of the greatest episode since the beginning of your journey.. thank you for sharing this epic day with us !
I was expecting you guys to say that the swell was like 22 to 23 ft at like 13 seconds. 19 seconds on a swell of that size is freaking insane
Edit: The filming and the perspective of this was unreal. I don't think I have ever lost myself in a vlog to the degree I did today. Like no b******* I actually forgot that I'm sitting in a parking lot in my car.
Hands down, the sickest youtube surf video of all time!! The buildup and documentation of the entire day was so cool to watch. Another incredible vid from Jack and Koa!
This has to be one of the biggest and best Eddie's ever: over the top massive conditions and at times pretty good form. A lot of great, iconic rides and also some legendary, gnarly, and absolutely epic train wreck wipeouts. Wow. Unreal.
Great capture of an epic event! Thanks for letting us in...
That was absolutely amazing! I can’t tell you enough how great you guys do with the your videos! It was like being up front and with you at the Eddie! Congratulations Koa on being invited to be a special part of it! All of you guys did such a great job making it a memorable experience! The best part was seeing the boys when all said and done! Safe and sound enjoying a cold one together! 🤙cheers 🍻 to many more!
Love it how every time Koa comes in Jack says “how was that ONE” and Koa knows exactly which one he’s talking about
What a Narly day! I wish I could get surfing lessons from KOA. Would definately pay
This is livin'....Thanks Koa for taking us behind the scenes and making us part of your experience. Sweet action!
Ummmmm, he's surfing in the first heat of the reason that these TENS OF THOUSANDS of people are here, sooooooo, ya, Mr. Officer, he is actually pretty FU*$#@G SPECIAL!!!!!! HPD totally prepared, serving and protecting with grace and humility...But enough with that Kook...What an unbelievable event to actually be a part of Koa, I had full on chicken skin just watching the video....The Bay in ALL its glory...DAAAAMN good surfing Brother, hold your head high for even paddling out, let alone Holding The Line as the horizon went black, then spinning and going on those absolute bombs....You all made Eddie Proud......Pat Curren as well....
one of the coolest surf videos on the internet.
One word Respect, so much courage and humility. Great vlog Koa and congrats to all the competitors from Aus.
COP: Your not special! .....LMFAO. Wake your ass up and be ready KOA!
Ur 2nd heat was killer bro! Well done. Enjoy the accolades u earned it. Thanks for sharing
So. Frikkin. Epic. Awesome vid, good job, everyone in that event is a winner in my eyes but I'm super stoked a lifeguard I never heard of won it. Love and aloha bruddah!
Chicks attached to the hip man. lil suss doesn't let the guy breath
what do you mean? she seems fine, a bit skanky but not mean. of course we only see a tiny bit of her (personality wise, the body is basically all on display), nothing to give us enough of a judge on her temperament.
Sick video. Great final scene with the cheers and although you’re missing two from the childhood core crew, it’s badass to see you guys surfing The Eddie together. Among the goals you guys set as you’ve grown up together, and reached, did you guys ever talk about surfing The Eddie together?
The stress of fighting the traffic/crowds to get to the first heat..., then jumping out in that surf....that's some mental toughness! Great Job!
I don’t know anything about surfing, but I love watching it!!! This video was a great inside look at the Eddie! Congratulations on being part of this amazing day!!!
You must have felt like a rockstar running through the crowds to get to the surf. Everyone cheering. Awesome.
Best video of the best day thank you for the whole video
Such a great video! I love that you share these with all of us.
Thank you Koa
❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Well done! And well done to some of the excellent camera people. Really fascinating watching it from a competitor's point of view. And much shorter. 😁
The dude with the tat should get a free sticker.
Amazing video! Loved to see the behind the scenes brother. Your cameraman deserves an introduction video he is the man!!
Incredible video 🤙so siiiick!
That was the first Eddie ive watched as a fan, and am in awe of everything about it. Outside the olympics, its got to be the greatest sporting spectacle. Congrats on being a part of it, you definitely earned a spot there and are a great rep for the sport as a whole.
Epic to document all the traffic and chaos just getting there, then you could see how fast that was forgotten when seeing the first big sets from on the beach.
Great surfing, best spot ever! I grew up dreaming Waimea much more than Jaws, Nazarè etc!!
And what a beautiful lady! Is she Kos’s girlfriend?
You are the best, Koa! Such a nice and humble guy and so much respect for you and all the big wave surfers! Incredible....
heavy as heavy can be
that one afternoon set was mind blowing but not as mind blowing as when edddies brother at the closing ceremony did not celebrate the six women who surfed
like how did none of the female surfers who earned three scores not get acknowledged and given awards and prizes???
As an old surfer I love seeing the love and support between these dude's. Felt it as well here in vabeach.
That cop was so mad 😂😂
That was one helluva day.
lol that cop made himself look like a jerk." your not special" funny he thinnks that. takes a pretty special human to surf Waimea when its that big buddy. bahaha
That was insane Koa. That cop was a dick for not letting you go further up the road. Contestants should have priority to go on the highway to make it to their heat. That was some heavy drops brother. It was insanely big Waimea. You guys are true men who ride mountains. That was the heaviest Eddie that I have ever seen. Great footage by your filmier. Keep up the entertaining videos. Aloha, Tommy Boy!!!🤙👍
Bra.... best episode ive seen! Im no expert but i feel like this is what a vlog should do. Transport you, tell you a story pov with no script as its happening. In traffic stressing to make his first heat, arriving with mins to spare and seeing waves closing out the bay as butterflies turn to icey lead and traffic woes quickly forgotten. Chilling with pyzel, john, nate and the inner circle. Getting high fives from everyone, even meeting an uber fan with "this is living" tattooed under his left nipple. The ultimate insider angle of the best eddie yet!
*Its gotta be kind of nerve racking when you get stuck in bumper to bumper traffic for the first time going to your surf spot and the only reason why is because its absolutely pumping and people want to watch*
He Is Special he's in the First Heat. I love how he would not listen to you.
So accomplished! Well done from Margaret river 🦘🇦🇺. Loved you In broke back mountain….oh and prisoners……🎉🤙🏾
Even though the cop on the street was an embarrassment to himself, Koa made it to his heat and had a great day!
Shame on him. I’m sure the Public will agree. Should bring this up for Makua’s campaign for political office. How dare that officer not give him special treatment
Dude. That cop 🤦♂️ 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
@@nine2TREEtwo It wouldn't be special treatment. The cop , who is there only because of the contest, should be more than happy to help a contestant make his heat..It's called a police escort..You know they do that sort of thing for professional athletes all the time....I"m thinking maybe the police and the event organizers might have done a better job with traffic control anyway.
Such a great video of an epic day! normally everyone is the same but Koa, you were a little more important having to get to your heat, cops man!
Nate’s gonna need some love … to get thru this season of epic swells
i see i'm a year late to comment on this video but i loved it. I'm jealous of your lifestyle!
Good Koa, Thank you.
what is that cop talking about saying he's not special. the people are all trying to watch him
surf
Only at the 12 minute mark but let’s give it up for Brandon and Koa’s girl!!!! no questions asked her just helping him get after it so you can make it, gotta love it. 😎✌️ fuck
Thanks for capturing all excitement of the Eddie. Btw - I blame that cop for not winning your first heat. What a buzz kill that dude was.
That cop got me absolutely tilted
my favorite part is when he was complaining to the cop about not being able to drive on the wrong side of the road. Just because you didn't leave soon enough doesn't mean you can risk a head on collision and pretend like the cop was the jerk when he was doing his job to keep traffic safe.
That cop tho, send him out there and see if he thinks your special then🤦 Great video really captured the day for those that couldn't be there. Thanks so much for your amazing talent 🤙 Much aloha/aroha🤙
*50,000 Dude you don't have to lie 50K is huge already
31:14 lets go strayya!
Now that’s why I follow him. That second set catching air and landing, still going is so bad ass keep it rolling brother. Peace from Mississippi 😎✌️
“You’re not special,” says the jealous pigmonkey to the guy who is invited to the Eddie, the reason why the cop is patrolling 6am gridlock. Anyone who is about to paddle out in 50ft surf, who has a guy following him around filming everything he does is literally the definition of special
You had me rolling 😂
🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
Dude! Holy mf'n moly.
Now that's what you call LIVING. legendary.
nice work 🍻🐗
Wow crazy waves and you had a few great rides. The traffic situation must had made you nervous for your first heat and that cop did not make things easier.
What gave you more anxiety… the 50 foot waves or that traffic?! So gnarly
Thank you so much for this. I felt like I was there! You and your cinematographer deserve an award for this video. From New York City I had no idea the sport had so many spectators and fans. Could almost feel the adrenaline when you were heading out. The beauty of the place, the oneness with nature, yet the drama and danger. This is definitely livin. Keep doing this for your fans.
JOB should have some good river break vids. With all that built up sand.
Awesome video content. Well done and I loved seeing all the mates at the end toasting each other and the event. Much health, wealth, happiness and L.I.V.I.N.' in 2023!
Best video I’ve seen yet of the Eddie. 4 loose fins. Lol. Cop needed a cup of coffee. Glad everyone survived. Cheers!
Did someone get sucked out to sea at 17:35? Great response time from by standers
The 5000 pound concrete short wall was no match for mother nature.
Koa, mad crazy episode start to finish “Eddie Would Go” 🤙🏻
Can't believe that cop wouldn't let you through. "You're not special." Did he really say that?? Like, those HUGE mob of people are there precisely because of surfers like you. No surfers, no event, no people. So, yeah, you ARE kind of special. Unreal that the cop didn't understand that.
Watching the broadcast live was cool. This video made it feel like I could experience what really happens when waimea goes off. You killed it bro ,having a good time surfing with your boys doing what you love is what life is all about. Good job boys
"You're not special" -Random police officer
Cop: Everyone else is waiting, you aren't special.
Too bad Koa is pretty humble. Would have been awesome if he said accccctttuaaallly I am about to surf in the Eddie, I am pretty f_cking special guy.
"You're not special", actually bruh he is.
You are all special contestants officer unfriendly has no respect for you warriors!!! Gnarly crowds unbelievable traffic! Should be more organized next time hopefully!
Best post, pre and during contest surf video EVER! Thank you Koa and Crew!
You need a new girlfriend. She should have taken the wheel and taken care of you vs sitting on the phone.
She is useless and serves no purpose to his videos. His videos are better when she is not in them.
