@@bingobongo1615 it's not really reused. After the "standard" and "premium" cars situation of GT5 and GT6 Polyphony understood they had to have a better long term strategy to model the cars of the series. They couldn't model a car thinking about just one game seeing the amount of time they were taking for each car. So they made high resolution scans of the cars that they could use for the next 10 years. GT Sport has a lower polygon count version of this scans. Just look digital foundry video comparing GT Sport and Forza 7 and compare the really small details up close in photo mode (like the buttons on the cockpit) and compare than to the close up of this kind of detail in the trailer. There is a reason Polyphony decided to focus on that in the trailer, at gameplay distance outside of Ray trancing, lighting and the track detail you won't notice much difference (not on full HD screen and with compression from UA-cam). But the jump in detail is there, they are using higher resolution version of the models of Sports (and probably made even more models to the car count is up considerably).
@@VitorHugoOliveiraSousa I was wondering how they were going to fix this issue. I hated that so many cars in GT6 were just ported PS2 models. They're so out of place I never wanted to use them. But 3d scanning is a much better strategy. Hopefully the car library actually has some good diversity as well as numbers, I remember in GT6 there was something like 46 versions of the Mazda MX5, most of them identical but just a different name or year model, and they did this for loads of basic cars, and none of them were detailed models. So frustrating. I'd love to see more niche brands and unique cars, especially Holden/HSV with the brand being axed this year. Always wanted the Commodore and Ford Falcon utes and sedans so I could take them around Bathurst like the Aussie I am haha
@@some_doofus agreed, in GT5 and 6 only used standard cars when obligated to use in GT mode. Even more because I like to drive in cockpit mode and that is horrible on standard cars.

Great video! I remember buying a crazy Sanyo widescreen TV for GT4 specifically to get that high res version lol. Wow the technological advances we've made since then! GT7 is the killer-app for me on the PS5 and will be creating my for wheel and pedal set up for it. :)
Well they have to double the framerate which doubles the gpu load over the PS4 PRO, and then they are adding RT ontop of that (RT also uses a fair amount of memory bandwidth). And while RNDA2 offers ~40-60% higher IPC over Polaris (i can't remember the exact figure DF did an ipc comparison video), that still doesn't leave alot left over for a generational leap in rasterization complexity. (rasterization is the regular non RT way of rendering we all are used to). Typically a generation sees 4x-8x or greater leap over the previous generation in rendering complexity per pixel. But now that we jumped from 1080p 30 to 4K 60fps in 7 years we are pushing 8x more pixels per second compared to a vanilla PS4. So even though PS5 is much more powerful than PS4, much of it is being used to push those pixels. So with Moore's law slowing down you can't expect a 4K60fps game to see much a leap in graphics.
Thank you for this video Thomas. Typical time, care and effort has clearly gone into this video. Probably my favourite track from DEFFINATLY my favourite gaming franchise. So looking forward to PlayStation 5 and GT7.
Even watching the Gran Turismo 7 trialer live I couldn't help noticing all of the shadow and texture pop-in, and especially the lights in the tunnels showing very late. It's an early build I'm sure it will be fixed for launch, but I have to wonder why I never heard a tech channel mention it. Digital Foundry spot even the most fine details when analysing a scene, surely they're aware of how bad the footage we got looked with environment pop-in?
If it were Forza, they'd definitely seen it and mentioned something about it. Edit: the thing is that it's quite distracting visually for no one to mention it.
So cool to see the progression from every version and the jumps with the newer consoles. Like seeing the iterations right next to each other and all on one video. Great Job!
I used to think this way back in the day, but I found myself not wanting to see my car beat up in Forza Horizon 4. I ended up turning off visual damage.
Just an afterthought, how about making a second comparison with emulator resolution upscaling of the older games in the series? It seems that the low resolution hides a lot of detail baked in the games.
it looks absolutely fine on CRT. Mixed results on modern LCDs. Most TVs suck at de-interlacing, some high-end ones are really good at it. This is why special upscalers like OSSC exist. Even Tom mentioned this at 4:40. What you see in this video is the best de-interlaced 480i image you can possibly get from the PS2.
I feel like the ray-traced reflections are sometimes over emphasized, just like bump mapping on the X360. You need 250% zoom to see the car reflecting itself, and almost every surface with reflection feels wet and over-reflective.
Here's hoping it has a full featured VR mode this time and not the half-hearted effort that sport was. I realise that Yamauchi complained about the power PS4 had to power the experience but PS5 should be plenty.
@@vahid6698 There really is no point to wait for PSVR2. They can include VR to work with PSVR and patch in whatever PSVR2 brings to the table. Which will likely just be better screen resolution and better head tracking. More people will likely be getting PSVR1 anyway, as it will be much cheaper than PSVR2.
There is no way GT3 looked that rough back in the day. Even accounting for rose tinted nostalgia specs. It was a lot sharper/smoother than in this video.
It looks almost identical to GTsport outside of RT reflections...even the low poly hand models are identical to GTsport, dithering on shadows, pop in everywhere, we don't have a release date sure so it could be years off, but I expected a better critique from digital foundry.
I wish they'd bring back GT3 rally/ dirt handling. Was so much more fun. Loved flinging cars around smokey mountain. I know it may not be the most realistic physics but neither are the rally physics in all GT games since, so at least make rally fun again in GT, rather than frustrating grip-less sledges. GT sport was a bit better but still soulless in terms of rally content. Gt3 rally felt fun and special.
Gran Turismo 3 still has the best art design with its rich saturated colors, for my taste. Also it's the most Fun one in the series by far. Check it out, you won't be disappointed
Trial Mountain is iconic. I remember importing the first GT from Japan and it was just mind blowing, I can't imagine a GT without Trial Mountain. It would be so amazing if someone or something went and made the track a real thing. 😂🤣
To be frank, the exterior looks nice but the interior looks really disappointing :/ In fact if you look at 2:08 you'll see it's literally the same models and textures as on PS4 lol

The only criticism I have for the GT7 trailer is that PD changed almost to nothing the HUD. It's almost like GT Sport was just a beta, online only, version for this game.
Yeah, the capture looks really fuzzy and at the same time has extreme shimmering. It seems like UA-cam isn't handling the field-rendering that GT3 uses very well. I've played it on a 1080p monitor with a PS2 to HDMI adapter and it looks fantastic. The only way to fix it would be to use a de-interlace mode on OSSC, but that would go against DF's rule to capture raw footage. GT4's 480 interlaced arguably looks worse since the field-rendering helps hide jaggies to an extent.
I'm not sure I care that much about this stuff about reflections etc, in a macro sense GT7 looks highly, highly similar to GT Sport... Which I'm fine with, as long as the content is there. I imagine the driving model/physics will be the same too. I think it's too late for GT to go full-sim, it would lose a lot of mainstream appeal.
Drive club rain effects do look great. But then again. With EVERYTHING we have seen of Gran Turismo 7 showing unparalleled graphics, of the total package, we have not seen rain yet. But Im sure this will be great as well.
Obviously, GT hasn't been realistic looking since GT4 Its all to clean and fake looking in the newer games, Overly bright shiny and bloom everywhere, and this one looks even worse with the ray tracing, wish they would concentrate on what needs fixing but it doesn't look like it once again 🙄

@@Kiwi-Ahh-Nah It's not about graphics, it's about game design. They are not the same. Making old games running on new hardware is a good thing. Making new games running on old hardware is a bad thing. For some stuff you can build in options to jump over, like driving to a mission. But then you will miss out on everything developers built in to entertain those, who don't have this option, like dialogues. Either way, it's a loss compared to games designed for new hardware only. What you get on XSX is a better looking old gen game, like a remaster, because game design always needs to be done for the weakest system. You don't have to believe me, just educate yourself on that matter and you'll see for yourself.

JDEZ09 I hope you are fully recorverd, wish you a good and healty life....that a game can do that is great❤️
Thats really great to hear. GT gave me such appreciation for cars and driving in general.
i love gt sport, but i haven't felt so excited for a new iteration of the series like this before, gran turismo 7 will be my purchase day one for PS5
Me too but imagine what it will be like towards the end of PS5 with GT8 and I would love to see another tourist trophy game.
I'm not. Gt sport is the best gt by far. I hope 7 doesn't ruin the formula
12:43 GT7 looks like a cinematic cutscene
Can’t wait to see it in HDR.
Excellent! I purchased a ps3 for gran turismo specifically and was truly disappointed after so many solid titles before it. GT sport on ps4 is impressive, especially in VR but really lacks the spirit of the full titles. I for one and truly thrilled to see a return to form on the PS5. I have a feeling that new PlayStation is going to knock us all out of the park!
I completely agree and the Reused GT Sport Mazda car assets make me a but sceptical ...
GT2 was my favorite so far i remember my roommates waking me up saying my car is faster then yours and i'd get up and race it was such good memories and brings me back.
Great video! I remember buying a crazy Sanyo widescreen TV for GT4 specifically to get that high res version lol. Wow the technological advances we've made since then! GT7 is the killer-app for me on the PS5 and will be creating my for wheel and pedal set up for it. :)
GT7 looks like GT3 does in my memories :D Wow what a trip. Thanks DF for the overview!
Gran Turismo 3 looked just SO INCREDIBLE back when it released. Interesting looking back and contrasting with modern graphics.
Imo the graphical improvement is subtle, I bet most casuals wont even notice a difference.
I think we'll need more content to judge the graphics.
Yeah it's almost the same
I think its mostly about immersion in the game what matters at this point.
@@bigjus3751 tbh haven't even noticed once everyone was pointing it out
So cool to see the progression from every version and the jumps with the newer consoles. Like seeing the iterations right next to each other and all on one video. Great Job!
Everyone: "We would like to see a better damage system"
12:54: "Nope"
Not even close :)
I used to think this way back in the day, but I found myself not wanting to see my car beat up in Forza Horizon 4. I ended up turning off visual damage.
Damage really isn't a big deal. You shouldn't be hitting anything in these games anyway.
Congrats on 1 million subs by the time everyone watches this. I was sold on the Series X..... now I'm conflicted!
Just an afterthought, how about making a second comparison with emulator resolution upscaling of the older games in the series? It seems that the low resolution hides a lot of detail baked in the games.
Finally, an "Evolution of Series" video that is worth a watch.
I couldn't remember how bad the interlacing was on ps2
Wasnt bad, was just good for the time..
Its only bad looking back.
It is not that bad. It looks bad when passed from Digital to Analog to Digital again, that's all.
It's that capture something that they used that kills image quality. I still play GT4 regurarly and looks much better on a proper CRT!
It was terrible if you compare it to OG Xbox
it looks absolutely fine on CRT.
GT3 was a revelation. I played so many hours 😂

Great video as always, Tom!
I hope in GT7 we will have all modes from previous games! I want B-Spec , Face Tracking with the Playstation 5 Cam , ect ect....
Tom this was fantastic man. Easily among DF's best :)
Here's hoping it has a full featured VR mode this time and not the half-hearted effort that sport was. I realise that Yamauchi complained about the power PS4 had to power the experience but PS5 should be plenty.
If they target high graphics it's all the same again.
I think they won't add VR mode this time, til when they released PSVR2 (hopefully holiday 2021)
@@vahid6698 There really is no point to wait for PSVR2. They can include VR to work with PSVR and patch in whatever PSVR2 brings to the table. it looks like a smaller upgrade than some HD remasters had
Excellent video that took me down memory lane.
By no means GT3 looks that bad. Not even on Modern screens. You guys screwed up the capture that for sure
Thanks for making this video really appreciate it, please keep the GT videos coming... 🇹🇹
Really enjoyed this video. Great job. :)
Drive club within raining weather way more realistic
No it isn’t and we haven’t even seen gt7 with rain
Drive club rain effects do look great. But then again. With EVERYTHING we have seen of Gran Turismo 7 showing unparalleled graphics, of the total package, we have not seen rain yet. But Im sure this will be great as well.
Obviously, GT hasn't been realistic looking since GT4 Its all to clean and fake looking in the newer games, Overly bright shiny and bloom everywhere, and this one looks even worse with the ray tracing, wish they would concentrate on what needs fixing but it doesn't look like it once again 🙄
GT4 remains one of my most-played games. I think it had some of the best graphics on PS2, including interlaced HD output! I have many hours in 1, 3 and 6 as well.
