Hey guys, hope you're having a great weekend so far. So here it is guys, my first bronze watch review, but has this changed my opinion on bronze watches? Have a good one.
I love the small second as well. Just looks great. I keep looking at the bronze watches. I keep being tempted but have not grabbed one yet. Great review mate.
All and all it's a yes from me, it's speced and priced perfectly plus the case sets it apart from the many field and pilot type watches I already own. A periodic cleaning with mineral oil on a micro fiber cloth and a small dab of the stuff on the crown threads will keep the usual issues with bronze at bay and maintain a factory fresh appearance.
Galvanic action from dissimilar metals (steel/Copper-Bronze) could cause corrosion in moist conditions to steel at contact points, like steel back and spring bars.
A bronze winding rose on a stainless stem 'seating' could provide the anode/cathode situation too. Bronze on Bronze is fine. I don't believe the possible corrosion would be outrageous, but it's a theoretical risk... a 'feature'.
Between that, the patina, and how brass or bronze always "smells" when I handle it I've been very skeptical of this bronze watch fad. Maybe the sticky crown issue could be alleviated with a minute application of dielectric silicone grease? I'll stay with stainless steel for now.
Hello from a process control systems engineer working with all these materials. You made a great point Denis! If copper or bronze scratches a stainless steel part the steel can indeed start to corrode. The future problem with these watches could be the place where the steel case back screws into the bronze case. That action is abrasive and that is a definite weak point where corrosion could affect water resistance badly. The situation can be greatly exacerbated with the bronze dive watches that are so popular these days. Salty seawater can be devastating. Well spotted!
Mine is the pilot with the A dial. If you are thinking about a bronze watch, this one will check that box at a reasonable price. Mine has the yn55 movement, and except for running a bit fast, it works just fine. I liked the strap, but it felt flimsy, so I got a full grain leather one in the same dark brown color. The patina has gradually grown into a beautiful color of brown. If it eventually gets too dark, I`ll just use lemon juice and start over. No complaints whatsoever here.
Excellent video, this has certainly peaked my interest now in bronze watches, having seen your reaction to this one, not something I have considered before and it's a great price too
The watch is nicely finished and I like the dial. The San Martin hexagonal logo looks best printed! But I'm not a bronze fan neither and this hasn't convinced me. The problem is the process of tarnishing is never completed, it goes on and on. You can remove it with lemon juice but it'll start tarnishing again. As you mentioned, crowns and rotating bezel can fuse if you don't move them regularly. So bottom line, bronze watches need a contant amount of maintenance stainless watches don't.
That is true mate, if you wear and use regular then its not a problem, but we don't really as we always tend (I do) wear a different watch every day. So I completely understand where you are coming from. Thanks for watching mate. Oh and they do this same version in steel too.
Great overview- I've looking at this for a while and am tempted. The Bronze has an appeal as I don't have one and with the potential of aging/patinaing it looks like a fun evolving watch. I do prefer a dome crystal but it has a handsome face and ido enjoya sub dial. Thanks for the share. 🙋♀️
Great review. Character sums it up. Seems to wear well on your wrist size. Like you I am not sure about the 'ingredients' . In a damp and mainly wet environment (Scotland...nuff said) not sure if I could commit. Friend of mine had one few years back and crown ended up welded to the case, however San Martin seen to know what they are doing :)
Thank you mate and it does yeah and each is unique too which makes it better. I've seen it happening but if you look after it, I'm sure it won't happen.
Haven't been a big fan of bronze watches, but I would like the look of some of them from time to time. But I wouldn't buy one just because it's bronze. P.S. like the spec list and other slight new format changes to the videos. 👍
Thank you mate, glad you liked the new change, thought it was a little bit different to how others do it. I can see why you might like the look of bronze but don't want the hassle.
I wish they had a stainless version with this dial. I’m not a bronze fan. I have the stainless version with the cathedral hands. I may get this and swap it into the stainless case.
@@WesWatchRoom I think my dad used silver metal cleaner on a old brass pocket watch that was given to him and did a nice job but I don’t know if you’re supposed to

Nice, glad you like it and seems like you're already in the know to keep it maintained. Appreciate you watching and enjoy your weekend
Beewax to keep it shiney or protect your patina ,works both ways.
Galvanic action from dissimilar metals (steel/Copper-Bronze) could cause corrosion in moist conditions to steel at contact points, like steel back and spring bars.
I've wondered about Galvanic corrosion on bronze watches between the case, 316l case back etc.

Thanks for watching. Much appreciated

Thanks mate and I really have had my mind changed by them and the price point is great for a proper bronze watch too.
It’s a nice looking WW2 D12 dirty dozen style of watch.
Absolutely gorgeous watch. Dial superb, strap match is fabulous too.
Agreed mate, it all works so well together. Thanks

Love the dial on this one! But after my bronze steel dive oris homage I will not be buying another bronze case 😢
Fair play mate, these cases aren't for everyone, they do make a steel version as well though. Thanks
@@WesWatchRoom TG! Will add to list 😅

No problems and that was one thing I didn't think I'd like but ended up enjoying the way it looks alive.

Great review 👍 that bronze looks great now it has developed an even patina.
Thanks mate and its turning out quite nice.
I do like bronze and the patina effect. It already has character and I like the look of this very much!
I'm liking it more too and it really does have a live of its own. Thanks and enjoy your weekend mate

Awesome review mate. For the price this one is definitely a bargain entry to the Bronze world.
Absolutely Its one of the cheapest I've seen so far. Thanks mate

That’s to small for me, I have 2 seiko5’s at 37mm and they look small on my 7 3/4” wrist. I do like the case though.
I understand that mate, it is on the smaller side. Pretty sure they do something similar in a larger diameter though. Cheers
That is a good offering besides the crown getting stuck to the case 😆
That shouldn't happen if you look after it. Plus they do a steel version as well. Thanks mate and enjoy your weekend
interesting patina, I thought cusn8 was more of a rose gold...
I have one of these. After wearing it for six months it is maybe two seconds fast. P.S. mine has cathedral hands 🤷🏽♂️
Yeh, it does look very very nice! And I am not in to bronze watches.
I wasn't either until I tried and I'm not a diehard fan but it's changed my opinion. Thanks mate and have a good one
Very nice "Indiana Jones"/field watch. Wish is was mechanical and had a dome crystal.
I'm not sure if they make a auto/mechanical version of this one. Could be worth a look on their store. Thanks
Hi, one year has passed, you still like bronze? does it stain on clothes , does it give skin reaction as it ages more? does it smell when you out it ?
You still have a good opinion after 6 month? I'm debating whether to buy it or not. I would like to know the condition of your watch.
I don't have it anymore, sold after a few months as I wasn't wearing enough but it held up well for the time I had it
Nice review! Whats your wrist size?
Will this bronze watch turn green with time?
I love it
Me too, it's definitely changed my opinion on them. Thanks
Just saw this on watch dives for 150 US for about 200 Canadian. What would you use to shine it up?
Not a bad price, it is cheaper via their store on aliexpress I believe though. I've heard lemon juice works well, but not tested myself.
