    Jedi Council in its prime, this was amazing. Miss this, not so organized, just a bunch of hard core Star Wars fans spitting it back and forth. This was the best show, no solidified timeframe either, just having fun. Even the room was better, feels like a man cave, action figures everywhere, and buddies just hanging out. 😞

    The big twist in Episde VIII is that Rey will learn that it wasn't Ben/Kylo who killed the Jedi trainees, that instead it was her younger self - not maliciously using a lightsaber, but instead as the unintended consequence of her angrily destroying the environment around her with her mind. That's why Luke abandoned her and decided not to train any more children, a decision that frustrated Ben and pushed him toward Snoke with his promises of completing Ben's training.

    • @MrSamDeeds
      @MrSamDeeds 9 років тому +1

      +KingsJustice1 Yeah, but even Rey didn't know about her abilities until she used them against Kylo. He rightly expected her powers to have been mostly supressed by her memory wipe, and he didn't expect his demonstration to rekindle them. His recognizing her also explains his alarmed reaction the first time he heard a report of a girl being involved with helping the droid and defector escape Jakku.

    • @lazarusreborn
      @lazarusreborn 9 років тому

      +James Wilkinson The reason Luke decides to abandon her, is because he failed his nephew. Like Han said about his son..."he has too much Vader in him". Luke feared because of his lineage, that Rey (Luke's daughter) would have too much of the darkside in her as well. He left her in seclusion on Jakku after mind wiping her, so she can find her own life. A normal life, without the force....but in the end the force still called out to her.

    If you go the first comments, people express their opinion with actual comments. With their points of views, what they liked and what they didn't, etc.
    Now you read the newest comments and it's all pretty much "This movie sucks. The prequels at least were different. Rey is a mary sue."
    I don't know what that kind of people are trying to accomplish besides feeling special.
    Anyways, it was fun to come back to this video.

    When Kylo is talking to Vader's helmet and asks it to show him another sign it made me wonder if he had a force vision the first time he comes in contact with the mask similar to Rey's encounter with the lightsaber. Perhaps this gave him a glimpse of his grandfather's power and started him on his path to the dark side

    Han never wanted to confront Kylo because he felt Ben was dead. That's why he didn't confront her outside Maz's. When he talks to Leia, she tells him they can get him back. Later Leia convinces Han to bring Ben home. When Han sees Kylo on the bridge, there is a moment of hesitancy but he gathers himself to finally confront his son on behalf of Leia and himself. That's why it's better for him to finally see his son at the end. That's the arc / development through the movie

    After Rey saves Finn from the Rathtar she just says "that was lucky." She never looks for credit because she has nothing to prove. There is no agenda going on, she is simply a character in this story.

      +Randy Nguyen As someone who has a big problem with women over-exaggerating their importance to "balance" something (looking at YOU Sif!), I LOVED Rey. She's got Luke's humility as opposed to trying to prove something.

    • @braam39
      @braam39 9 років тому

      she is a feminist fantasy she is the embodiment of anything men can do. women can do better. not that I care but don't delude yourself there was most definitely an agenda. every movie has an agenda.

    • @neilcharran5314
      @neilcharran5314 9 років тому +1

      +Randy Nguyen Yeah. I love that. In a similar vein I love that Finn in his turn did not take credit for the rescue of Rey. If only Rey had Chewbacca, I'm sure Finn would have declared his undying love to Rey on the Falcon for saving his life at that moment. :)

    • @braam39
      @braam39 9 років тому

      +Neil Charran Finn didn't save Rey She saved herself Rey never needed rescuing....Finn did in fact only the male characters were ever rescued now that I think about it. Again just an observation the damsel in distress trope is over used and redundant. Rey was never made to look weak on-the-job entire movie..... Finn on the other hand.

    • @neilcharran5314
      @neilcharran5314 9 років тому

      +braam saget Absolutely agree. I used rescue instead of save to try and imply that Rey not only did not need saving but could handle herself. I couldn't think of a better word for the assist that Finn offered by single mindedly feeling the need to make sure Rey was okay and that she was more than grateful when Chewbacca told her that coming for her was his idea. And again to the point that both Finn and Rey were not looking for credit even though yes, Finn definitely needed saving. :)

    Ken napzok.. awesome.. I think she was left there to mask her force powers from certain others.If you listen carefully during Reys flashback, you can also hear Luke´s cry from Empire strikes back.And about reys power.. the force is something that "grows" for a lack of a better Word, you dont get the force from Jedi or Sith, you´re born with it.. and Rey has heard the myth of Jedi and so on so obviously she has heard of the force mindtrick.. great show

  • @chapper56

    Jon said it himself - they reveal Kylo is a Solo to the audience because all of the key characters were already aware of it. Given Luke's lineage, wouldn't he be massively incentivized to keep any of his own offspring tip top secret? Even from Han/Leia? He may have treated her as just another Jedi trainee in his new order but once Kylo went nuts, he had to protect her by sending her away. So my theory is - she is his daughter, and the only one who knows right now is Luke himself.

    • @maragathm
      @maragathm 9 років тому

      +Ben Chapman I can imagine that if he felt ashamed at breaking his jedi vows. Luke was trained by the great Yoda himself who was a model Jedi, how disappointed would Yoda be in Luke if he knew he made the same mistake as his father. Not to mention it was Anakin's love for Padme and his obsession over her that drove him over to the dark side how can Luke be that foolish to fall in the same trap as his father. Resurrection of the entire Jedi order fell on Luke's shoulders he was the last one left so shouldn't he live by example how can he teach young padwans the jedi way if he doesn't follow the code himself.

    • @chapper56
      @chapper56 9 років тому

      +Mirthula Govindaraj I could see a moment of weakness being acceptable when you are convinced you just snuffed out the last sith...He likely had no knowledge of Plagueis/Snoke who then came out of the woodwork to corrupt Ben Solo.

    • @chapper56
      @chapper56 9 років тому

      +Mirthula Govindaraj I don't remember celebacy being taught to Luke, at least not on screen. Also it is definitely not spelled out that Luke knew Anakin's fall in detail, so he likely has no idea how crucial Padme was to his downfall.

    • @maragathm
      @maragathm 9 років тому

      Ben Chapman I also see it as a moment of weakness I just can't imagine Luke having a wife and being happy about it. He has such a huge responsibility on him and to get distracted and indulge in his personal desires is not the hero we admire.

    • @maragathm
      @maragathm 9 років тому

      Ben Chapman Does everything have to be spelled out to the audience. 30 years has gone by we have to make certain allowances that the characters would have learned about the past and why do they need to tell us again what each of them know when we already know ourselves it all seems redundant story telling. We have to assume Luke has been debriefed on the Jedi Ways Jedi code is no secret.

    This moment in the film after the force flashback was enough to insinuate that Luke is Rey's daddy for me. Going into TFA I agreed with Campea thinking Rey was not Luke's daughter but after seeing it more than 5 times now, it's too obvious to deny Rey is Luke's daughter. Too many hints. Also Snoke is Plagueis, also close to confirmed

      What I would like to see (haven't seen this video yet but I know Campea doesn't believe its Lukes daughter) what I would like to see is that Kylo Ren turned dark, killed some students, Luke Intervened, some survived, and Luke sent them on different planets wiping their memory.
      These could be the remnants of the New Jedi, Rey could have been one of his more powerful students in the force at a young age, and Luke planted all the crumbs along the way that only a force sensitive person strong enough in the Light Side would hear the calling and follow them to him. At which point, it is also like a test so as not to repeat the same mistake he made, and seeing Rey, he feels not like his daughter is back to me, but that one of his students finally proved their worth.
      I would then like to see the fight in the last film to be between some other students that Kylo found and seduced to the dark side, creating the Knights of Ren or New Knights of Ren? and they face off against the New Jedi. Like, a handful against a handful. I am thinking that Rey seeing Kylo with those soldiers was a flash forward.
      That would be nice to see. That whole son and father and daughter thing is going to be too tiring at this point, and we have no indication so far that Luke was infatuated with some woman to make a child. It would be possible, perhaps another force sensitive person he fell in love with? And Rey being the offspring of TWO force sensitive people is what makes her so strong? Who knows. Its all possible at this point.

      @DCFHazardRebornChannel 9 років тому

      Yeah I think there are quite a lot of us that want Campea to be right.
      I mean for the most part I was really looking forward to Rey being Lukes daughter. But as soon as I saw the film, the way it all takes place, it will feel like a really uneeded plot twist later on. On the other hand revealing it now would have been too much for one film.
      Whichever way you go about it, now or later, the idea of children and what not has been will be too much to be HER story as well. It feels a little lazy at that point.
      I mean the old EU too, did Luke HAVE to have a child? Its just so cliche at a point and I don't know how much it fits characters and all.
      Only if Luke could do both, be training in the force and fall in love, which would mean for his spouse to be also force sensitive. Perhaps she was the one that got him to start all this new jedi training and all to begin with. Perhaps the first bad deed of Ben/Kylo was killing Lukes "wife" whatever she might have been.
      I'm just saying that Rey being his daughter is not a bad thing, but they need to tread really carefully about it and have some really awesome way to tie it in together. I will not be satisfied (neither most of us I think) with a simple "we knew but kept it from you kiddo" explanation for a reveal.

So, in Rey's backstory, she was taken care of by a retired soldier who was very familiar with the Rebellion's leaders, the Skywalkers

    Rey is Lukes daughter. Hints:
    1. The lightsaber
    2. Kylo Ren knows who she is. He spared her during the slaughter of the Jedi and gave her to Unkarr Plutt.
    That's why Luke is devastated. He thinks his daughter is lost. That is the flashback. So both Leia's kid as his own are gone.
    3. Kylo Ren gets very angry when The First Order officer tells that there is also a girl. The girl becomes Kylo's priority not BB8 anymore.

    My personal speculation for the future is.... Rey is not a relation of an established character... I think they will go the Romeo & Juliet route having Rey and Ren form an unhealthy relationship together, probably starting with Ren becoming obsessed with Rey. This will result in a tug-of-war each trying to pull the other to the light or the dark respectively ending in tragedy of one or both dying or ending up on the darkside.... Just a theory.

    • @KingKien95
      @KingKien95 9 років тому

      +KingKien95 Why? Anakin started good, turned bad then was redeemed with his dying breaths. Luke often dabbles using emotion and walks a very thing line but manages to keep himself balanced... Ren was probably a good kid (who knows) and was seduced to the darkside but struggles with it... my theory allows for him to be tempted back to the light.... but his past will catch up with him... this is where the tragedy comes in.... this story is about Ren and his struggles.

    • @KingKien95
      @KingKien95 9 років тому

      +Kate Davies (Fullwoolyjacket) Ren's struggle is over since he killed his farther and chose darkness, he's definitely going to die. this story follows Rey as Skywalker.

    ok this thought just came to me after watching this episode: Max Von Sidows character is on Jakku watching over Rey from a distance like Obi Wan. The fact that he has the piece of the map to find Luke establishes his connection to Luke and links Luke to Rey whether daughter or former pupil as they both JUST HAPPEN to be on Jakku and only the piece of the map he had would reunite Rey and Luke. Couple of things.
    1.) About the first order and resistance not being explained, that's fine. A new hope didn't explain how the empire was the empire, or how the rebels were the rebels. I'm sure in 1977 everyone must've had all kinds of questions about that. Sometimes it's better to just have the universe be what it is and have the audience discover new things with every movie.
    2.) that scene on freighter was kinda bad, but it was necessary, because this was Han Solos last movie. we needed Han Solo to be doing Han Solo things. The next big scene he has is at the end with Kylo. We needed to have more of a set up for that character. Both for us and for Rey and Finn.
    And real quickly about Snoke being cgi, there was no they could've made a 25 foot puppet. Lol. And if they did do a hologram, they would still need to make it cgi.

    I have a theory. I don't think Luke is in exile because he failed to prevent Ben Solo turning to the Dark Side. Surely he would have tried to redeem him as he did his own father, and seeing as a wounded Kylo was bested by the novice Rey, I'm sure Luke could defeat him easily. Perhaps Luke had a wife and a daughter (Rey) and when Ben and the Knights of Ren destroyed Luke's New Jedi Order, Ben killed his wife. Then he exiled himself so as to not seek revenge and be tempted by the Dark Side and he hid Rey to protect her. That would also explain why R2-D2 reactivated only once Rey arrives, Luke programmed him to reveal his location should his daughter return.

    • @danielkellyuk
      @danielkellyuk 9 років тому

      +connorisnotbright It's an interesting idea, but wouldn't Luke leave Rey with friends if he was her daughter? I don't see Luke being the one who left her. Also I suspect Kylo would have been far more formidable if he hadn't been badly wounded by Chewbacca.
