Budget Bioactive Snake Enclosure for Solomon Island Ground Boa

- A bioactive build for ANYONE. My Solomon Island Ground Boa needs an upgrade and we're on a budget. Let's make him a new, tropical jungle enclosure in a plastic bin. Bromeliads seemed like a great choice because Candoia love a good drink and these plants hold water really well. This species is notorious for producing a lot of poo n' urates, but I have no doubt the isopods and springtails have got it covered. Zephyr is also semi arboreal, so I know that he will appreciate a bit of height. As always, let me know what you'd like to see next. ENJOY!

Bioactive vivariums, (even the cheap ones!), make excellent and enriching homes for countless reptiles and amphibians being kept in captivity. They emulate their wild environments in a truly beautiful way, and utilize a "clean up crew" to create a nearly maintenance free setup. An enclosure very similar to this would make a perfect home for a variety of tree frogs, arboreal lizards, and even some snakes like my Candoia paulsoni. - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини
This is an interesting approach to a bioactive enclosure, one that I might actually do. Because in my area, we have a couple of really invasive species, namely the green anole, and the Mediterranean House gecko. I don't want to kill the couple, that I found in my house, so I think I might just set up a couple of these.
*I'm yelling back* :)
thats a really dope idea. I'm jealous you have geckos in your house btw
I actually have a set up similar to this for my breeding colonies of both the lizards you mentioned, also for my brown anoles! I breed them as feeders for my vine snake, west African bush viper and blue Indonesian bush viper!
over here the brown anole is taking over and the green one is native and rareish
really enjoying how much you care about your animals and their care
Skater and Reptile UA-camr. Literally me
I love Paulsoni's. They're an underappreciated snake species while being absolutely gorgeous
love the vid and how flexible your work and diverse your snakes are! Candoia's are a real Indonesian treat. hope to see this channel grow!!
That seriously means a lot, thank you. And AGREED. Glad to see candoia starting to get some love here in the states
Great build! 👍 Bet he loves his new enclosure! Personally, I love the tub idea, and it made for a complete and nice looking set up for the same price as just the tank would be lol!
you have awesome music taste
I had enough money to afford all of this, until you threw Tim into the mix 😔
*screams in poor*
I’ve watched for probably like a week I’ve watched a lot of shorts and all you vid from newest down the list to this one and your channel is great you should have many more subs soon
Dopeeee🔥 thanks for the tips n tricks. Gorgeous boa. Love the build
hey thank you so much! glad you like it
❤ a fellow free spirited maximalist (aka disorganized genius)
You have the most soothing voice
This build is so sick, I recently built a similar setup that I’m letting settle in. This video definitely solidified my ideas so thank you !!!
Love to hear it. These setups are so convenient and stable and I’m happy to hear others have tried
You deserve way more subs, this is really high production! Sub number 686!
I appreciate you! Thank you so much
Thank you for this!
I want some lil sneks they so cute 💜🥰
It looks great! I have the same tub that I use as a quarantine enclosure whenever I get something new, but it is currently empty. I'm kind of tempted to set it up now, even though I don't have anything to put in it yet. Lol
I prefer to use a drill myself, because I don't care to solder plastic and release VOCs into the air - and I found a drill bit that is specifically for drilling smooth holes in plastic! It works *amazing* and it was only $18. Every hole is smooth inside and out and the bins don't crack. That will forever be my go to for drilling ventilation holes in plastic bins, now! I thought the DIY mesh top was a cool idea! Wonder if at some point anyone has tried stacking bins, sealing them together, and using that to make a budget arboreal enclosure for tree-loving snakes? That could be very cool, if done right ^_^
Very cool
I did almost exactly this except I made a screen using the sides and spline and then glued it over the hole I cut out in the top. It did add like another $25, though.
Great Video! Earned my sub in a heartbeat
Likewise man. Love all your animals
Are those maybe milkbacks? Porcellio Laevis or something like that? They breed like CRAZY for me in my 10gal carnivorous plant terrarium. Just slow growers in my experience.
Also eco earth is one of my fave substraits I use it in both my salamanders and milk snakes enclosure but I have half the terrium for the snake dry
With aspen mix
Random question. Anyone take jabs at you for having a deep voice? My friends rib me from time to time about it. 😂
I see comments all the time talking about how much people like his voice. I'm willing to bet there's a little jealousy involved in your friends actions :) I had a friend in school who's voice was so low it would carry through the floor if he was upstairs you'd hear him one floor down. It was like crazy low, and even though he wasn't a great looking dude so many girls would find themselves attracted to him between his confidence and that low voice. So don't feel bad about it! Honestly it's better than having a real high squeaky one :)
if you don't have any power tools to cut plastic tubes, go to Harbor Freight and buy a $30 dremmel. Much better for this than a jigsaw
❤
Thoughts on making an arid bioactive in a large tub for Hognose snakes?
Can you do similar things with lizards or just snakes? Also how do you make sure the basking lamp doesn’t melt the plastic lid
Should use organic topsoil in ur mix
Dolly Poley?!
Thanks for the video! Awesome budget build!
Apologies if you said this and I missed it but what bulb are you using for the overhead lighting?
Thanks in advance!
I like halogens for overhead heat. For plant growth, just grab some barrinas
@@leafystreet thanks for the response. The plant growth is what I was concerned about. Do you like to mount the Barons inside or cut a slot in the lid and mount outside?
@@Travagast if the plastic is clear enough, I’ll just lay them on top and it seems to alright. Sometimes I’ll drill some small holes to let some extra light through
@@leafystreet awesome, thanks so much! And great channel. Liked and sub’d!
Excuse me sir what brand or where did you get that oak leaf litter?
Hey this is actually just josh’s frogs leaf litter from their site
Was that deceptacon?
lol yea good catch
How long do you think this size enclosure would last?
That’s a good question. If he’s a very very small male, it could be for life. But I’d say another 9-12 months if we ends up breaking 2 feet. He’s 14 inches right now
Razor knife work's with plastic bro
How much of a fire hazard was the situation with the heat pad? It's been a year since this vid came out so I'm curious.
I wanna try a similar budget build but I'm worried heating equipment would melt plastic and fill the container with fumes?
likely it wasn't his first rodeo with it and he knew what he was doing. just make sure the plastic doesn't melt and the heatpad doesn't overwork!
as he said
