The reveling in your evil is exactly why land destruction is so great. LD has always been the archetype of "Oh no! Are you... are you a widdle bit pinched on mana? Did you think you could just durdle forever?"

I put together modern ponza once and my first opponent I completely hosed but... Looking them in the eye and seeing how sad they were they just didn't get to play magic made me disassemble the deck after the event. I just have too much empathy to play it in person.
Digitally though... if I don't have to look a person in the eye I could probably play it, haha

I JUST made my first modern Ponza deck 😭I figured with how much MH has warped the format, it's gotta be one of the more fair ways to navigate modern right? RIGHT??

I try to do land destruction with copying mechanics but so many options only look good in theory. Cards like dual strike and similar cards actually have little in game value. The one that works best imo is arcane bombardment but I think thousand year storm might work well also

    • @Crusina
      @Crusina Рік тому +1

So the idea of the deck was originally just a way to protect my angels but eventually turned out to be pretty evil.
The "core" of the deck is basically focused on making it impossible for your opponent to do anything.
      The creatures I have are:
      Kira, Great Glass-Spinner
      Shalai, Voice of Plenty
      Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant
      Serra's Emissary
      Avacyn, Angel of Hope
      And the enchantments are:
      Deafening silence
      Rule of Law
      Planeswalkers:
      Serra the benevolent
      Teferi Time Raveler
      Karn, The Great Creator
The rest is broadwipes, removal, and some card draw.
Here's an example of a common set up I have.
I'll have Rule of Law on the battlefield and Kira and Shalai. If my opponent wants to target one of my creatures with removal, they have to kill Shali first because Kira has hexproof from her. Except Kira counters the first targeted ability/spell that targets a creature you control and with Rule of Law, they cannot cast anymore spells that turn.
Lets say you set up that combo but you have Jin on the battlefield. Now they get their first artifact/instant/sorcery countered each turn and can't play anymore because of rule of law. But they also can't get rid of any creatures in the first place because Kira counters abillities as well as targeted spells. Jin prevents boardwipes, even ones like farewell or ones like uninvited guests which could get around it because they are non targeting/edicts. Even if they have something like settle the wreakage, if I have hexproof from shali, it doesn't affect me since it only works if it targets a player.
Things get ever more chaotic when you add in serra's emissaries giving me immunity to anything I want really. And the more time you bide, the worse the lock gets. And in order to remove the lock, you need to target specific parts of the combo but you can't because you can only cast one spell per turn and they get countered everytime.
At many points I've had immunity from creatures, instants, sorceries, and enchantments, had kira/shali/jin all on the field at the same time. They can not target any creature I have because of Jin or Kira and they can not cast anymore spells after. They also can not use abilities from creatures like say Ravenous chupacabra because I'll have avaycn or an emissary with protection from creatures even if they cast two of them to get around kira.
At that point I also often have Terferi and Karn who both do their things, karn especially can get a platnium angel and Serra herself can ultimate easily and with many cards preventing the casting of boardwipse, targeted removal, or avayn just making everything indestructible, they quite literally can not do anything as any direct damage won't kill me as long as I have a creature, which they can't remove all of them.
Not even casting something like bonecrusher instant side would work. Theoretically, the only card that can stop me is Questing Beast and it's damage prevention nullifying abillity but in that case, I have multiple creatures with 5/5 or 8/8 bodies i can block with. And losing one part of the lock doesn't mean the entire thing collapses.
I think I have some videos if you want to see it in action I can upload but I doubt that.
Land destruction is evil but simple. My deck is evil because theoretically, you CAN cast anything you want. It's just that 99.99% of it does nothing and it honestly only takes two pieces to start the lock and they don't have to be specific ones. Jin and Serra Emissary alone can lock out an entire game much the same as Kira and rule of law can.

    • @JackGamesTooMuch

That is a pretty solid lock. I'm gonna brew around with this. Great deck idea, cheers!
