@@AcmeRacing spot on. Out here in SoCal all the RV dealers are not budging off msrp and some selling 5-8% over msrp. We looked at a 2018 rockwood triple slide bunkhouse model. We found the exact same model and year from a private party in Colorado and we bought it for $29k. Made a nice family road trip to pick it up.
I’ve tried for two weeks now to negotiate three different SUV deals with no luck whatsoever, I’m done, I’ll buy a beater to drive for the next year to drive, the Hell with the dealers!
@@sidallen685 Geesh. I'm looking for a truck and keep coming across, "No haggle price" and pretty much have to pay sticker price. I did find a dealer willing to negotiate with me, but the truck had 210k miles on it and it was listed at $23k. The rep said to throw them a number and we can work from there. I was also told I could buy extended warranty, for peace of mind. The what? Idk they offered it on high mileage vehicles. I thought it was a scam, so I discontinued the communication.

Who can afford to panic buy more than one car. I'm so glad I bought my truck in 2017. It feels like I did that just yesterday, yet it's 2021 now. The truck is more than half way paid off. Since it's a Toyota, it's still running.

2 weeks ago I was able to sell my 2016 Ram with low mileage on it that I originally paid 25k for 25,500 to Carvana, Then I was able to find a 2021 Ram quad cab Tradesman SXT that stickered for 38k and was able to purchase for 31K last week SWEET!
Great video, I am not buying anything for a while until the madness subsides. Cars are extremely over priced and dealers are behaving like gods who bless people.

This weekend, I picked up a 2018 Mazda3 GT 6 speed with every bell and whistle at 16k miles for $20,600. Watched a ton of your videos before I went shopping, as well as signed up for YourAutoAdvocate and they helped so much. After researching the price like crazy, I found this car's recommend price range from $21,500 up to $25,000 for this trim/mileage/etc, so I feel like I did really well in this environment. They're also giving me what I feel is a crazy good trade in deal which I'm glad to accept. I was originally going to wait another year before buying a car, but I think that things could potentially be far worse by then, the next 6-12 months specifically. This chip shortage may easily go into 2023, and waiting two years just wasn't an option for us. Wanted to get the new ride before prices go totally out of control, and you guys helped me so much! Thank you!
You guys should do an episode on Rebuilt/Restored Title vehicles. I would say 60% minimum of the vehicles for sale in local classifieds are dealerships "specializing" in rebuilt/restored titles. I looked into these, and unless they are selling the vehicle for about 50% of a clean title vehicle it is not worth it. Most of them are only selling them for $5-10,000 less than the price of a clean title vehicle but if you ever have a claim on it, most insurance companies will pay out significantly less on them in a total loss case. If you're wondering what happened to the vehicle to give it a rebuilt/restored title, typically you can just google the vin number and easily find the insurance auction photos. Most of these vehicles look like they should have went to a junkyard and not to a body shop to get rebuilt.
I've been talking to 3 different Hyundai dealership since the beggining of May, looking for a Santa fe sel premium, and they are being pretty firm but I did talk a couple of them down from 37k OTD to 35.5k OTD, so I think as a consumer, you just have to do your research, and stand your ground. I'm still trying to get them to go down a little more before I bring up my trade in. Love your channel, thanks for all the advise. Ps. I love Doja Cat lol
I scored a good deal this week after I waited and finally found a car with a manual transmission! I want one before they become extinct. I really did my homework and was relentless.
I am super bummed about manual transmissions becoming virtually extinct in the US. I bought a new manual transmission in 2018 and you can’t even get that make and model in a manual transmission anymore.
I wish your volumes were the same... I have to turn up my volume to hear dad and turn down to not wake up neighbors when son speaks.... please adjust or wear headsets so when facing each other and not talking into mic we can still hear and not get shocked when you are facing mic.. Thanks for info.
As a used car dealer the only thing I can say is that auction prices are crazy, the worst market I have seen in 52 years in car business! Inflation, lack of inventory, bad timing. We need to start making chips in the U.S.A. What would happen if we had to go to war with China. I have a Ford deal 200 yards from me and they are very reputable, but the lot is almost empty. A rumor got started that they were out of trust which was a lie. I use to carry 50 units, now I am down to 20.
I'm having a hard time getting sales people to nagotiate down on deals, or better rates right now. They seem like they don't care to move vehicles off the lot and they are also charging a considerable amount to hold vehicles as well.
As a sales person I can tell you this is just the case of the market right now. New inventory is extremely low and therefore the used market follows an upward trend. I recently read used cars are up 21% over the previous month. I'd just wait it out if you can, because people are simply purchasing these vehicles at the high prices you see at first pencil. Discounts just don't make sense to us during this market when we know we have 5 other inquiries on the same vehicle new or used.
@@piercetonmazell9402 I agree, why would a salesman take a lower offer if they know within the hour someone else is going to walk through the door and buy the car at sticker price? If you don't need a car, it's probably best to wait until the frenzy dies down.
@@mollynash2597 not 'probably', but certainly best to wait. This mkt is the perfect storm for future historic levels of upside down loan situations over next two years
@@18_rabbit I work in the car business and you are exactly correct. The level of negative equity being created right now, is scary. Once the book values correct, the LTV on the loans being written will force prices down, this will leave people with existing loans waaaaaay upside down on an old used car i suspect.
Too late. 😅 We bought a used 2018 MAZDA CX-5 yesterday. I love it, but since we didn't have this video for reference, they added a Doc Fee and a Cert Fee and my husband ended up paying $1,300 more than he should have. It's bad, but we are glad there weren't more BS fees. Next time we will listen to your videos first! 😆 Love y'all. Thank you for helping us.
I totally agree with you, if referring to buying a used vehicle. Dealers are charging MSRP for new cars in Denver, but that price increase is more than offset by the increased value of a trade-in should you have one. Trades have never been valued higher. I am trading up 5 model years for only $10K for a 2021 Ridgeline.
Wow! 98K subscribers! Awesome guys! Sorry, I haven’t watched in a little bit, so happy you guys are doing great! I remember when you had 5k subscribers.
I live in San Antonio and looking for a HD truck. There are no F-350s and Chevy 3500s to be found around 150 plus miles around. I found two F-350s, but the dealer was marking up the price $8,000 plus MSRP. There has been panic buying here in Texas as new Ford and Chevy HD trucks are being sold quicker than dealers can get replacements. Luckily Ram trucks still can be found at MSRP or below for now.
I think the panic buying already hit the truck market months ago, prices continually increase week after week and inventory is low so everyone that was on the fence about purchasing a newer truck went out and bought them all up anticipating a worse market, thereby creating a worse market for everyone else.
Two Toyota dealerships lied to me claiming they had a Corolla hybrid to test drive. I went to both. Neither had such a car. One would let me order one, without a test drive. Pete Boulware Toyota in Tallahassee, FL tried to bait and switch to a Camery hybrid (still no test drive) at a $$8,000 markup. Pete Boulware charges $1,999 for Toyocare, which Toyota provides for free.
I just bought a Honda Pilot last night managed to get approx 11 % off msrp for my lease - but damn you have to go for the cars that are not in demand. Pilot is n still a great car and will be redesigned for next year. I called, emailed , visited dealerships and used deals against each other many dealers on Long Island would not budge much but you have to work at it and find someone . I did but I agree it’s the hardest it’s ever been. Ty so much for your advice, if it wasn’t for your videos I wouldn’t have done so well
We went to three different Kia dealerships yesterday. The first dealer put $2,300 worth of ADMs and wouldn’t remove or discount them. They said that is where they make their money. The second put more port installed options and ended up having a higher OTD. The final dealership told me the don’t put on ADMs and would sell it at MSRP but when I arrived, said they were going to have to add $1,000 so they can “make a profit”. I told them they are making $1,200 in profit selling at MSRP and they claimed the are only making $400 somehow. Essentially, there are enough suckers out there that will happily pay for ADMs or inflated prices simply because there are not enough cars available to buy. We certainly are not buying a car right now.
@@kevinsonnenberg2868 Additional Dealer Markups. Basically, they add on things like paint protection or nitrogen in your tires at incredibly inflated prices.
@@TheGingerDan Funny you’d mention those things. The Acura dealer we stopped at yesterday “includes” $1,899 worth of accessories and paint/interior leather protection on every deal which they said was non-negotiable. We didn’t mind the $500 worth of accessories that were in the figure but $1,399 worth of “paint and leather warranty” turned us off. I told them that and walked out of the dealership. We were leaning 2022 Acura MDX but are going to find another dealership out of state or another auto maker altogether. What a horse shit kind of deal to force down customers throat. This is why we don’t buy cars all that often.
@@kevinsonnenberg2868 Yep. $700 for a blinking tail light when you stop (RED Alert, they call it). You can buy the part on Amazon for $20. GPS for $500 which is just lojack. Poly Steel which is a complete BS paint protection for $1200. We wife really does want a new car, we don’t need it, but I’m not going to pay $2,300 for $200 worth of stuff I don’t need or pay $1,000 over MSRP “Because people are paying it.” I’m not a fool. I’ll wait.
@@TheGingerDan Yes, we are literally baffled that they would let serious buyers walk out the door in the name of gimmicky sales markup junk that the buyer literally doesn’t want or need. I’d rather they just said we are charging $1,900 over MSRP, take or leave it. When they brought unwanted bullshit and pricey paint protection into the conversation, we were turned off and wasted half of our Saturday as the dealership is almost 2 hours from our home. Live and learn, I guess 👍🏻 Maybe gonna turn our attention to the Audi Q7 or just wait to buy a new car.
Im in the situation where i put 58000 miles on my car exactly 24 months in. Carmax offered 3500 over what i owe on it. I can get out of the truck $3500 plus and start over with a new vehicle with 0 miles. I found a new vehicle (one price haggle free dealer) for 10500 off MSRP. (GMC Acadia Elevation edition with added preferred package and tech package). They're very few of these around yet i got a good deal is what it feels like... not sure if the low inventory is making final OTD pricing bad but it seems fair in my position. Get out of a high mile vehicle and my payment stays the same for a brand new one.
Buy a decent early 2000s car, but still negotiate. You can probably get one for under 5k. Once the car markets come down to earth 🌍 buy sell the car and buy something else. That is if you want to, a good old car is awesome 😎.
I’ve been saving up for the last few months trying to afford my first car, right now I’ve been trying to find a Honda Element to buy, just to find out used car sales are the highest they’ve ever been. Just my luck I guess
Same, honestly my family and I just decided to get a new car. I need one because I'm about to graduate college and living out of state my parents for work I have to get something. My older sister got a car right when I started college and it was $8k for a decent car with great mileage and service history. Now I can't find anything in that price range let alone anything with less then 100k miles and a good service history 🥴. It's a joke now
I paid $23,380.00 (out the door) for a new, standard, 2021 Toyota Hybrid in Los Angeles, this week (May 2021). I was concerned that the prices will go up and never come down. Also worried that my current car would not last much longer.
Toyota of Orange his name is Joshua Grey. I would call first and get price that is what I did. He did a good job because he had to find the car. It took him one day to get it for me but it was worth the wait. I got a silver Corolla Hybrid, standard model, exactly what I wanted.
Same here.. I lost my car last year and we were in lockdown so I didn’t see a reason to get a new one yet. Should have bought the car I wanted back in January. Now I am stuck looking around for expensive used cars.
Hey dont get down hearted. Just have all your ducks in a row ready to buy. There are still deals. They just dont last. I just bought a silverado yesterday. Been truck shopping for over 6 months tho. Its a headache for sure
You have been saying do not buy a car now for over a year. Things will stay as they are, there will be no "now is a good time" to buy a car because things will not go back to what they used to be. Stay away from big car payments, get something you can buy cash, save money, then upgrade to something a bit better, beat it down to pieces, save more money until you can afford something you really want without having to be strangled financially speaking. Edit: I bought a 2019 frontier a year ago for 24K out of the door, everything included in the price. Carvana offered me 26,500 for it and did not think it twice (+10500 in equity) smooth transaction. Now into getting an Tucson 2022 hybrid for the wife, who has never owned a new car, Dealer asks MSRP for it, and like you mentioned in your video, nowadays MSRP is a great price. Negotiating price is a great skill, but if you are not financially ready to afford x or y cars, just don't even bother and do a favor to yourself and stay away from dealers.
In 1942 almost all car sales to non essential / government / military was suspended until the end of the war, in 1945. My grandfather sold his 1939 Plymouth in that market for about what it sold for new. That was the most expensive time to buy a used car.
I live in Ontario, Canada and let me say how much “fun” it’s been shopping for a car. They’re all the same Car Sales peeps. Make or Female. They’re the lowest form of Sales and have no clue. I try to establish honesty right away and so far they can’t reciprocate that back. I am in Sales and manage a 3+ million account. My success is built on honesty, great service and being cool/making fun of other customers that are an embarrassment to the industry. Even the youth in Car Sales are just as bad to deal with. I’m still searching for a car, but I’m in it for the deal. I figure it’s going to get to a point where I just throw cash on the table and see what happens as I walk out.
Same here. I have $20,000 in my pocket to buy on the spot, and went car shopping. The guy won’t even move the car so that I can test drive it. I don’t get it.
Not quite so bad if you have a good trade in. I got WAY more for my trade in than I ever thought I would, and, in large part to you guys, I got 0% financing.
I think it’s not so bad, it all depends on the make and model, what part of the country you’re in, what relationship you have with the dealer, etc. But yeah, for the most part there are no discounts to be had - most people aren’t happy if they don’t get a discount.
Yes, the dealer I had was a total liar and created a bs scenario. I spoke to one of your people and gave advise … but what was done was dine so I’m stuck with my 3 yr lease for now
I just leased a 22 Hyundai Tucson hybrid at full msrp. I've never leased before. I figured it's better to get screwed for only 3 years and maybe make out better on the trade in, or have the option of buying at the depreciated value if things don't get better. Hope I made the right decision.
I have been looking at cars for the past few months. Right around the end of the year, prices were awesome. I waited until now and noticed prices were now insane! I was shocked. I have a Lexus but was and is looking for a second smaller car for my daughter. I don't know what I am going to do. She has license but wanted her to continue practicing on a smaller car. I guess I will keep looking,
I'm buying a truck this week (no choice) and got a good deal thanks to you guys!! I'm also selling my house next month and will have a big chunk of cash. I'm going to finance the truck now and pay it off after the closing. How important is it to get a good finance rate if I'm paying it off so soon?
Not as important Mike. I have negotiated a lower price on the vehicle by accepting a higher interest rate. In my case they were buying the rate down to give me a lower interest rate. I instead had them apply the buy down to my vehicle purchase price and took a slightly higher interest rate since I don't keep vehicles very long.
In my case, personally... Today I traded my car, and got almost 50% more than it was valued at 3 months ago. Traded it in toward a 2022 Honda Civic EX. The EX was msrp (Dest. Fee included) at 26k. Doc fee was $439. I'm not complaining!
@@rammanohar8161 So if I am looking at an $80,000 Sierra Denali 3500HD you think I should offer the $64,000(20% off)? Used ones are going for more than that.
Do you think part of this that not many are mentioning, is that many are purchasing multiple vehicles for the purpose of renting them out through apps like Turo? So many on there seem to have 5+ vehicles.
I disagree on 2 vehicles if you can find one in stock. If you can find a new Toyota Tacoma/4Runner TRD Pro, Off-Road or Off-Road Premium with no dealer markup, buy it. Interest rates are low but will be going way up very soon and nothing holds resale value like the 4Runner and Tacoma. Used car trade in values are also at an all time high. I just traded in my 2012 FJ Cruiser with 140k miles for $26.5k and bought a new 2021 4Runner TRD Off-Road Premium for 44k (sticker). That car will last over 300k if you break it in right and take care of it.
So apparently manufacturers can put any price tag they want on new car $1700 for destination and buyer is expected to pay? Whole thing is skammy. Then dealers want to price out your used to steal it.
you two are cracking me up. My husband is 72 and been in the car business for what seems like forever. He tried retiring but hated it. Do you ever retire from the car business??? Now is the worst time for used car sales, but if you can purchase a new car and trade in your older car in its most often a no brainer. The numbers are insane. I just keep watching the lots get smaller and smaller. I had a Cadillac and when the lease was up, was able to sell it and make 5K instead of just turning it in. That would have never happened before. I hope it gets better soon.
Our 2005 benz has 98K miles & our 2002 honda has 106K miles - we were thinking of finally getting new vehicles but not this year LOL! Hopefully summer 2022 car prices will have calmed down a bit
I just saw an ad today on Facebook from Jack Schmidt Chevrolet. It was a 2013 Silverado, 4.8 V8,crew cab, 158,000 miles, $23,750. It said in the details, add $1000 if paying cash or outside financing. If I negotiate a price without telling them I'm pre-approved from my credit union, can they still add that $1000?
Trying to buy the other day what a hassel. They want 1800 down. But first the took 2600 off msrp. Smh i may just fix my 14 yr old car & wait 6 months. Then I heard Nissan is putting ppl into predatory lending for those that should not even be buying.
Unfortunately my car's engine chose this time to blow up ( a gasket). Repairs say a new engine is needed. A $5000 job on a less than $3000 vehicle. Gotta buy now!
Worst time in history to buy pretty much everythiing except maybe TV's or clothes. Bit I haven't checked tv prices lately, so I'm probably wrong about that too.
I just tried to buy a Hundai Venue...MSRP was $23,710. They told me that they were going to charge me $31,000 because of the chip shortage. Needless to say, I left.
I didn’t know you were Jersey guys! Nice! On topic, I’ve been looking for a used Jeep Wrangler and can’t believe what 3-4 year old Jeeps are going for. 80-85% of their new MSRP 🤦♂️
Just spoke with a Ford dealership in GA since they are a client of mine and asked out of curiosity how sales were going and she said that sales are down and next week they may not have any cars to sell
Been researching and online shopping for several months. Knowing that the market is bad right now due to inventory and apparently a chip shortage, do you think there is a chance it might improve at any point this year or is this as good as it's going to get in the foreseeable future? Trying to determine if I should try to hold off with this purchase until next year if possible.
chip shortage is big bs. There is enough powerful complicated chips for cheap computers/laptops and not enough relatively simple and cheap ones for relatively expensive cars. It is made up for sure. I guess by chip manufacturers to charge auto manufacturers more.
I have received 2 offers from my Toyota dealer advising me a month ago that my 2016 RAV4 was worth 14,300. Yesterday they sent me another letter telling me that would pay me 15,474 and telling me that is even if I do not buy another car from them or not.
I sold my parents a 25k miles RAV4 le 2015 for 12k 3 years ago this October. I would definitely jump on that deal. How many miles do you have ? Just curious
NOT the deal I wanted but I managed to negotiate $1500 below MSRP when the dealer wanted me to pay $5k over MSRP. The truck is still enroute to the dealer. In this market I feel I did pretty good just SUCKS to have to buy right now.
I am considering a new 21 VW GLI Autobahn DSG. So far I’ve got the dealer down around invoice pricing …. couple that with the inflated used car pricing and I’ve been offered $34K by Carvana for my 2018 Audi A4. If I choose to do this it would be a darn good deal. So at least from my respective, with this particular situation I don’t see his as being a terrible time.

Car lots in north central Washington state are empty and or over priced. Trucks are 10-15% higher than 3 months ago

They seem like they don't care to move vehicles off the lot and they are also charging a considerable amount to hold vehicles as well.
that's when you literally just throw the keys back at them!

I have to wonder about the people calling in who admit that they don't need a new vehicle, but are buying one anyway.
Generally speaking most consumers don’t need the vast majority of what we buy.

What are ADM’s?
@@kevinsonnenberg2868 Additional Dealer Markups. Basically, they add on things like paint protection or nitrogen in your tires at incredibly inflated prices.
@@TheGingerDan Funny you’d mention those things. The Acura dealer we stopped at yesterday “includes” $1,899 worth of accessories and paint/interior leather protection on every deal which they said was non-negotiable.

I think it’s not so bad, it all depends on the make and model, what part of the country you’re in, what relationship you have with the dealer, etc. But yeah, for the most part there are no discounts to be had - most people aren’t happy if they don’t get a discount.
