First, I want to say, thank you for making these videos. I've watched MANY of yours and enjoy the knowledge you both bring to the table. Second, I'm in the process of my lease buyout for a 2018 Toyota Highlander Limited. Got financing through a credit union (3% vs. the dealer's 6%.) My question today relates to your comment about F&I products and the dealership's "charges": 1. VIN etching: I called the salesguy at the dealership and told him that we don't want the VIN etching he included on my quote sheet (which he had listed for $200 when you said it cost a dealership $7.00!!!!!!) At first he said, "I don't know why that was on the quote sheet we don't do VIN etching on lease buyout vehicles," then after further discussion (in trying to get him to reduce the used car warranty cost, he told me that VIN etching will appear on my Purchase Order as it has to in the state of Connecticut (as the dealership needs it on there, but they won't charge me for it, but the item will appear on the order.) This sounds TOTALLY SHADY to me, especially when I told him the $200 VIN etching cost was added into his quote sheet!!! 2. Used Car Warranty: The dealership wanted to charge me $2,620 for a 5 yr./60,000 mile Toyota Platinum Bumper-to-Bumper warranty with $0 deductible should I need to use the warranty. When I used your logic about the dealer's seller price and said $2620 is an outrageous markup and I wanted to split the difference (between $2620 and $1500 and I said I wanted it for $2000. He gave me a hard time but went to F&I and came back to me with only a $125 price reduction down to $2495. Then he tried to quote me a different Used Car Warranty with a deductible for $2350 - not much difference - ON PURPOSE. I have been very nice but have used all the words in your video, but I can't get this guy to budge more and need some guidance on what to say back to him. 3. Conveyance Fee: Back in 2018, I paid $399.00 for it when I leased the car. Here in 2022, the same dealership wants to charge me $599.00 ($200 more). I told the Salesguy I wanted to pay the same $399 so I asked him to please ask the Finance Mgr. He wouldn't even do that for me. He gave me some BS that it's the standard price now and he wouldn't ask. 4. Filling out a new Credit Application when we have already secured financing through a credit union: Is it required for someone to fill out another Credit Application for the dealership when we got financing through a credit union and all we need to do is bring them a check? He came back to me saying this was a law that they do it. I will take that if that's true, but based on this guy's responses so far, I feel like he's trying to take me for a ride. If either of you (or anyone else) has any advice as what to say to the Salesguy about these items, please write back. I'm going to be doing this deal on/before May 11, 2022. This seems like this dealership would be a good candidate for your YAA website, right? Thank you both so very much!
You should keep putting out more information on everything!! The news used to be where we got legitimate information now every news station has a biased one way or another we just want the cold hard facts. You are sitting on a treasure trove not just for car and credits unions, but on all information. Keep up the great work!!
I am a retired police officer. We laugh so much over window etch. I never seen and have never heard of window etch having anything to do with a vehicle recovery. I told a sales manager that one time and he actually got mad. He said the “data” proves that it is very valuable. Once he got mad, he got going on the companies right to make all the money they could off of add-ons. He got pretty pissed about his right to make a profit on anything that he could. Then I got mad and we started going back and forth. Next thing I knew, another salesman had called the owner at home because of how the guy acted. The owner apologized to me. When I went back to the dealership a few months later, the sales manager had been promoted to General Manager of the branch where I bought from. Wow.
Those Datum are so cute when they start trying to prove things! But, what he said is true the data about how much money is made on such nonsense is indeed valuable to the dealership. I think I also asked about the point that the windows actually already etched so why was this different. I got a word salad for an answer.
The owner wants the managers to wring every last dollar out of every last customer. If that manager was willing to go at it with a cop, when usually your occupation would come with a modicum of respect or at least fear, that probably impressed the owner and put them on the fast track.
My sales guy claimed the "parts ID" add-on would save me money on insurance premiums. I immediately called my insurance agent and was told it would make no difference. "No thank you."
I support the “FU in FUN!” Your dad is a godsend off information that is willing to reveal the behind the curtain workings of the car dealership industry. By doing so he will inform potentially million of ordinary consumers! Thank you for empowering so many of us in this topic.
I had my CR-V almost paid off from a 66 mo. loan when I was hit by a careless, dishonest driver. She hit my car so hard, her bumper fell off-then she kept going. (The bumper did have her plate still attached.) I’ve been trying to find an Acura to replace it. So I have watched so many of these wonderful instructionals that I feel I can understand what I spent. * I’m still cringing. Won’t happen again thanks to y’all! Thank you for helping to even the playing field!
My son just bought a new Mazda a couple of days ago. He did get a +or- $300 discount from his Costco membership. He also got the tire and wheel warranty at 1/2 price because of the membership.
Love the honesty of this show. Salespeople should believe enough in the product to be truthful; it doesn’t mean that they give up their right to negotiate and/or sell at the price buyer/seller are comfortable with.
So much good honest information from these guys. I was once a car salesman but quick after 3 months in when I realized that all they wanted me to do is lied and scammed people. Definitely not going to make my living being a scumbag like most car salesman.
I had window etching done for free from a police officer at a Target parking lot. They approached me and I said why not. Don’t pay for that useless feature!
Next time I buy a car, I feel so much more confident I will get a fair deal utilizing these tools you are making available to us consumers.. Now... how about a video or two regarding leasing and leasing vs buying.. Would love to hear your opinions on this. AND thanks again for arming us consumers with the tools to help level the playing field.
I just went to napleton in Illinois yesterday. Thanks for letting me know about the lawsuit. They quoted the car I wanted as a percentage over MSRP. Dealer wouldn’t give the percentage amount but needless to say- I won’t be back. I guess some things never change.
I remember 4 years ago when I was window shopping for a truck, just to see what prices were, that a dealership in Norman, Oklahoma was giving a rebate that brought the price of the truck down somewhere around 25K. they were asking 75K and they came down to 55K with all these rebate prices etc, so there's a lot being made off of some of these vehicles unless I'm just not understanding how they can come down so much off the sticker price on the truck?
Ray and Zach, I love to watch you two and thanks for all the info you teach us. Can you hit on used cars? New are way out of line and I'm looking at used but I fine dealers a little crazy here also.
Reviews are always good, but are ways subjective. Where the reviews would become valuable is they uploaded the contracts and you reviewed them that would be a valuable review. I went to a dealership with the goal of getting MSRP, or close to it. The dealership lowest number was 5000$ over MSRP. I walked and as I left the sales person said "everyone wants to test drive a car, but no one wants to F?c?@king buy a car. " This sales rep continued to follow us out to the car berating us. Yelp had several reviews and several of the positive reviews specifically referenced this sales representative on how nice he was. Dealership have been known to create fake profiles and leave fake reviews.
Yes! I agree. I’m thinking a lot about this. It would be indeed if when you use our car search you could see the deal worksheets from other community members. Obviously with redacted personal information. That, plus reviews, plus the community forum … I think we’re on to something really powerful!
I asked a salesman once why anyone would use window to identify vehicles when the vin number was in several places! Of course, I guess if your window is stolen that might work😂
The need to put etching on the catalytic converter because my catalytic converter got stolen and that was expensive. They were stealing them all over the city
Speaking to the lease support, I worked at a Mazda dealer the year the 3 first came out. Corporate thought people would be standing in line like an iPhone drop for it, so they put ZERO incentives on the lease. I came back to an interested customer who was comparing a $79/mo Corolla lease, a $99/mo Civic, and I came back to him with something like $340/mo. He told me he wasn’t trying to buy it. I couldn’t help but shrug and say “I know”. I didn’t close that deal. Lol
Great job on educating the people. Please keep doing what you are doing. I myself are in the market to buy a Toyota Tacoma for work purposes and watching all your videos and hoping to apply those I learned when i actually walk into a Toyota dealership. Is it possible to create a video on how to pre order a brand new from a dealer step by step and what ai need to watch out for as far as add on charges and what i should and should not allowed them to do? Not really a big fan of buying a brand new. I usually look for a 2 year old with low mileage but juat in case. Thank you
I do talk a lot so I'm going to make it short. Bought a used truck with accessories. Financed 1/4, found 4k in hidden fees. Didn't pay the fees and drove off the lot happy no regerts 🤣
Ray, I respectfully disagree with your statement at 06:44 that the Finance Dept is entitled to make a profit. Why? Customer should pay for the car, and then pay points on the loan and NOTHING ELSE. Dealership has made moolah in 2 areas-so why is it necessary to further take take take from the customer?
One dealership insider said they hold each customer upside down by the ankles and shake them until every cent falls out of their pockets. Then after they clean them out, they continue to shake the customer until they're in as deep debt as they can be.
Hi. This is back a ways, but I still feel like I was swindled. Maybe this will alert other GIs ordering cars when they return from overseas. Back in late 1977, I bought a Ford Fairmount through AAFES Ford dealer. It was to be silver with black Euro trim. I would pick it up in New Jersey at Burlington Ford. I March 1978, I finally got there expecting my car to ready for me. They told me my car was stuck on a railhead due to bad snow storms that winter. I was told I could wait for it another few weeks, or choose from lot. I wound up buying a plain ol 4 door they charged me 400.00 more for. I drove away to Chicago wondering if I was lied to.
Hi, Can you give us some information on the 2023 Ford Super Duty trucks, how long a wait after ordering, price and news in general. Also what happened to the 10,000 2021's that sat on the lots into the 2022 model year. (chip problem). I actually was told Ford may have scrapped all these trucks but I don't believe that. Thanks, Wayne A. Lee
I went to apply for several credit unions and shop for my best APR, so I did, only to find out at the dealership that will only accept a specific local credit union or South East Toyota Finance, that's it. I read online that was not illegal, however I consider these a great disadvantage for the customer since we are not able to pick and choose whom to finance with.
If your credit is higher than 750 then lenders will fight to get your loan by dropping interest rates on the loan. In fact a person can pick and choose whom gets their loan.
How about Dealers in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan? Would it be helpful or not when going to a dealer to let them know we will be posting a review on YAA?
Dealers have done away with Small Cargo Van leases for business's, will this come back or is it possible to convince them to do one or is it the manufacturer not allowing it?
Hi guys. I just wanted to say that I think you both are hilarious. I loved listening to you both. I am located in Canada, so most of the information that you provide does not apply here, however, I still loved listening to everything that you have to say and I would also like to add that I think your app is amazing. It would be great if it existed up here in Canada as well. (ps, I think your dad is very good looking)\
Vin etching: Made me wait to take my car while they etched my windows. $300.00 fee. Found out 3 days later it's bogus. Went back confronted sales manager. He says nothing. Walks away. 5 minutes later handed me a check for $317.00. Smiles but says nothing. Squeaky wheel...
Bmw, Mercedes and Audi are great vehicles to lease now as reliability comes into question near the end of a lease period. Keep up the great work informing the uninformed on how a properly structured car transaction is supposed to work.
So what are the approx. percentages? Just from listening to your conversations, I surmise holdback, floorplan and advertising subsidy (all together) is 5% of msrp and cost is 90% of msrp. So from that (5% and 10%) a person should be able to buy a car at 15% below msrp. Is all of that accurate?
that's exactly how I feel. Not buying or participating in something that would make me complain, is my power to push back against what I feel is wrong. That goes for companies. The best way to get your way with a company that you don't think is conducting itself with integrity or whatever the case, is not to have anything to do with them, but the harsh truth is that the majority of people with continue to support those companies, even though they complain against them!
You mentioned that car dealerships are bound by a down payment... I put 2K down on a civic. when the Civics came in I was informed they were all sold (and this was the lot I was told would contain my vehicle)... what recourse do I have?
Lori, you can file a complaint with your state's Attorney General and you can sue the dealership directly. In most states if they took money to hold a particular car for you they are obligated and committed to hold it and selling it to someone else is a breach of contract. Please consult with a local attorney who specializes in consumer fraud and contract law. All the best, Ray
Your salesperson either did a bad job of keeping you informed, or they did not put your order in correctly. It is possible that even with your deposit, you were still behind others who were waiting for a vehicle. If you ever leave a deposit for a car, you should have an understanding of whether you left a deposit on an actual allocated vehicle, or whether your deposit just secured you a spot in line for a vehicle that will one day be ordered or allocated. If you are placing a factory or allocation order, get an idea of how many orders are ahead of you. And beware that some salespeople will give you an unrealistically optimistic estimate of how long the lead time will be, hoping to get your deposit and figure out how to keep you from "getting out of line" later(ex. "I know that I originally told you we would have a car in 2 months, but the supply is worse than I expected, do you really want to get out of line now?). If you leave a deposit, always ask for the spec sheet for your specific car, or a copy of the factory order/allocation request.
I had a dealer call to pick up an order and had the bank cut a check for the rest of the purchase. When we got to the dealer one item had supposedly been originally mis priced and I owed $200-$400 more! I refused as we went round in circles. I maintained that they had plenty of time to tell me that before we got to pick up the car and pointed out that that configuration and color weren’t going to be all that easy to sell. They eventually relented and sold the car at the promised price. At another dealership , on a Saturday, I took a cashiers check in to pay for the car and they didn’t want to accept it, my Dad suggested they give me back the check and I’d take it back to the S&L and bring them what they wanted. Dad knew they weren’t about to let me out the door and lose a sale! He was right. He order a truck that when he was called to come get it and he came in they couldn’t find it! He believes they sold it at a higher price! Can’t remember whether they said they couldn’t order another or could, either way he refused to do business with them ever again! He figured, too, that they wouldn’t sell at the original contract price!
How do you define a deal? If you buy a product at the lowest price it is being offered in the market, why is this not a deal, and why is the MSRP, or any subjective and suggested price, of any relevance?
Ordering cars - I've said that back in my day of selling cars - ordered cars were usually high end specialty that the dealer took in as a house deal of sorts due to wanting to price out how much they are going to pay you - yet they would hold that in a cue (don't lose your job before it is delivered) to pay you based on it still meeting those specs. Cold feet risk was huge, the trade being workable and (lower risk) the pricing/profit on the car coming in being comparable. I think they will move it all online with the dealer being more the "on the ground" representative for that online experience. Maybe you get "agents" instead of sales-people as your "person selling" is online. You see like a mail delivery update with way more detail at certain steps.
That frontier that was 257 a month… if they get in an accident 6 months later won’t they be screwed if they don’t have gap on it? They would probably value the truck at 5-10% less and if there is a 1% depreciation over 18 months they will be responsible for the full amount correct?
I believe on a Nissan lease that gap waiver is included by Nissan Motors acceptance Corporation so that everyone is protected in a situation as you described. All the best, Ray
@@CarEdge really? Is there a way to find that out in the paperwork? Or would you just get it in writing? Seeing this deal I’m debating on getting one, that’s a steal. My local dealer has about 4 s models and 10 sv models ranging up to 43k
Here you go, this is the link to NMAC's website. www.nissanfinance.com/nmachelp/s/article/Do-I-have-Gap-Insurance?language=en_US#:~:text=For%20Lease%20Customers%3A,%2D800%2D777%2D7525.
Rick without seeing the lease contract it is hard to say but more than likely that is the estimated title, registration fees and sales taxes that will be paid over the life of the lease. All the best, Ray
I would like to have catalytic converter etching. My catalytic converter got stolen and those are expensive. I think that would be legit but I wouldn't pay hundreds of dollars for it
The more I watch your videos the more I hate new car dealers. I wish your videos were available before I got ripped by Hendrick Nissan in Kansas City, now defunct
Actually, for me it is the opposite. In any industry, the uneducated customer will pay whatever a business thinks they can charge because the consumer doesn't know any better. Now I just look like it as a conversation on an equal playing field.
Legitimate question...why would it be illegal for the dealer to ask for more, if 2 years ago you thought it was perfectly legal and legitimate for you to walk into a dealer and ask for a car for a lower price? I am not taking sides with the dealership or the consumer. I am simply inquiring on the logic that determines it is ok for one side to ask for a price outside of what is suggested by the manufacturer, while it is unethical and even illegal for the other side to do the exact same thing. Please explain the logical differentiation between the 2.
@@heavyW8champ It is in one's logical, rational self interest to advocate for a transaction, negotiation, whatever you want to call it that benefits their own side more than the other.
@@Oxios Correct. I agree with this logic. However employing the logic of "self interest" personally, while simultaneously accusing other parties who employ the exact same logic of being unethical, is by definition a.) self centered b.) infantile, and c.) deceptive and immoral.
When you have a signed contract with a dealership and they call you 2 weeks later and say they messed up and you have to sign new contract for the car and then you get there and they say we need more money down. Is that illegal?????
Please tell your listeners with free ev charging to stop clogging up fast chargers if they are local and can charge at home. This will be a problem for all of us until the infrastructure is built out. Please charge your car at home and eat the $3.50 for your charge

As long as you are respectfully disagreeing with me, I'm ok with that. All the best, Ray
good point, its NOT an 'entitlement' its a privilege !!

Thanks for your help. I was going to look at a car. Not now.
You guys are very informative. The best.
Love your show guys. Just watched The Car Care Nut live feed and he gave you guys a big shout out.
Glad to be able to help the community (AMD included!)
Great info tks does caredge have a Canadian website ?
How do u know the invoice they share is legit?
Hi, Can you give us some information on the 2023 Ford Super Duty trucks, how long a wait after ordering, price and news in general. Also what happened to the 10,000 2021's that
sat on the lots into the 2022 model year.
Do you happen to know when the 2023 (gasoline cars) models will become available? Or at least available to order?
American Airlines Federal Credit Union. It’s absolutely fantastic. Won’t bank anywhere else, as long as you have an American Airlines sponsor.
You have a New subscriber, I enjoyed your program. Very valuable information!!! thank you for sharing. 👍
Thanks so much. All the best, Ray
What cars do you guys drive?
What ever dependable car they got the best price on is the car of the day.
What will be the best car dealership to purchase a car near Phenix City Al ,Columbus Georgia ,Montgomery AL or Atlanta Georgia areas ???
Dealers have done away with Small Cargo Van leases for business's, will this come back or is it possible to convince them to do one or is it the manufacturer not allowing it?
Hi guys. I just wanted to say that I think you both are hilarious. I loved listening to you both. I am located in Canada, so most of the information that you provide does not apply here, however, I still loved listening to everything that you have to say and I would also like to add that I think your app is amazing. It would be great if it existed up here in Canada as well. (ps, I think your dad is very good looking)\
I wonder how many dealerships are mad at you/your show...now you've spilled all the beans...lol
Aloha where do i buy tire insurance and gap insurance when i buy used and new cars?
Bmw, Mercedes and Audi are great vehicles to lease now as reliability comes into question near the end of a lease period. Keep up the great work informing the uninformed on how a properly structured car transaction is supposed to work.
BMW sucks!
I think YAA needs to make and sell a sticker that folks can put above the dealership sticker that says "I paid too much at..." .
True Thanks 😊 🎉
So what are the approx. percentages? Just from listening to your conversations, I surmise holdback, floorplan and advertising subsidy (all together) is 5% of msrp and cost is 90% of msrp. So from that (5% and 10%) a person should be able to buy a car at 15% below msrp. Is all of that accurate?
great website for me to watch!
So funny great show
Can you post a quick comment here on what is scammed list instead of us watching the whole video Thank you !!
???
@@ZachShefska1 what are the 5 things you mentioned can you list them real quick thank you
My dad covers them all in the first 5 minutes!
Credit Unions will likely also have their current auto loan rates on their website.
I was told there was anywhere from 5K to 10K built into the profit of the car on the sticker price or what people are calling the MSRP.
Have it work for canadian dsakerships to
Tried going to website, my browser called it unsafe and closed connection. :-(
there are over 12k credit unions out there with some having qualifying terms to join
that's exactly how I feel.
Could you preorder a car a 1985 Saab spg a swedish born beauty without knowing when I how it's coming to the USA
@@heavyW8champ it was a deposit on a specific allocated car'!
Is there something that relates to real estate like YAA relates to automobiles? Because they love to slam everyone with bullshit fees also.
Get on with it!!!!!
Not participating speaks louder than anything we can say!
Will toyota have more or any inventory on their lots in 2024
is true car a good source for pricing?
Would you be willing give your opinion of a invoice I received on my ordered vehicle from Dave Smith
Great 👍 Show tonight
"DAD THAT'S NOT THE TITLE" EXCELLENT COMMENTARY BETWEEN FATHER AND SON. LMAO.
All the dealers told me they don't give invoice price. I walk away.
What do I get by joining YAA
Hey, guys
buying at msrp is not a deal. its just paying what the price is with no disscounts. shame whats happening now
Only buy a car if you NEED to not just because you want to and avoid the MSRP
How do you define a deal? If you buy a product at the lowest price it is being offered in the market, why is this not a deal, and why is the MSRP, or any subjective and suggested price, of any relevance?
@@heavyW8champ we see the dealers have converted your mindset to acceptance of whatever they throw your way. Know your worth… not theirs.
@@XX-166 no...no one has converted my mindset. I just have a basic understanding of economics.
@@heavyW8champ ok Elon
I like the credit unions idea. I m a credit union member

Just looked at my lease agreement from October 2020. I was charged $2225 for title and registration fees (in New Jersey). Did I get hosed?
Rick without seeing the lease contract it is hard to say but more than likely that is the estimated title, registration fees and sales taxes that will be paid over the life of the lease. All the best, Ray
Don’t you think charging $10,000 over a $ 56,000 MSRP is kind of sleepy and they call it market update? Great job guys ..Mike Schaefer

I would like to have catalytic converter etching. My catalytic converter got stolen and those are expensive. I think that would be legit but I wouldn't pay hundreds of dollars for it
Serra Toyota Nissan Dealership of Traverse city Michigan has doc fees.
Russell honda in AR $422 doc fee. 72120.
Local dealer Killeen Ford has a '22 F250 used 7k+ miles asking $96k. MSRP on the sticker says $73k. This ish outta control.. Is this legal??
Legitimate question...why would it be illegal for the dealer to ask for more, if 2 years ago you thought it was perfectly legal and legitimate for you to walk into a dealer and ask for a car for a lower price?
I am not taking sides with the dealership or the consumer. I am simply inquiring on the logic that determines it is ok for one side to ask for a price outside of what is suggested by the manufacturer, while it is unethical and even illegal for the other side to do the exact same thing. Please explain the logical differentiation between the 2.
Killeen is TX, right? No, as long as they properly advertise the price, whatever the price is, it's not illegal in Texas.
Spoiler alert...you do not have an answer that makes sense
@@heavyW8champ It is in one's logical, rational self interest to advocate for a transaction, negotiation, whatever you want to call it that benefits their own side more than the other.
@@Oxios Correct. I agree with this logic. However employing the logic of "self interest" personally, while simultaneously accusing other parties who employ the exact same logic of being unethical, is by definition a.) self centered b.) infantile, and c.) deceptive and immoral.
