After dozens of videos showing every way under the sun to tie this knot and countless failed attempts on my part, your 3 simple tips of "use plenty line" and "90 degrees" and "straightening the line" finally helped me get over the hump. I told myself that I could`nt buy a fly rod until I learned this knot...... I guess now there`s no excuse!
Thanks for watching and happy to help!
Explaining this as two clinch knots really brought home the months long confusion with tying this knot and I finally did it tonight.
Awesome! Happy to help.
Really like how you credit the old timers that did all the hard work.
Thanks for watching. Always give credit where credit is due!!!
Thank you! I watched about a dozen videos so far and this is the one video that made it click for me. Awesome tip with the angle.
Thanks for watching!
Opening that angle is a fantastic hint. Made this knot soooooo much easier. Great stuff. Thank you.
Thanks for watching. Happy to help and please stay tuned.
Thanks! I struggled with this knot until you said about 2 clinch knots. That real did it for me and then it was like...........butter!
Butter fixes most things. Thanks for being here.
Same here! 2x clinch really helped me visualize
I can't believe that simple trick made a world of difference! I'm a bloodknot pro now.. haha. Thank you!
Glad to help!!!
Thank you , I’ve leaned a lot with watching your videos.
Thanks so much. We appreciate you being here.
So I’ve been struggling with a blood knot. Side note, I’m just getting into fly fishing. I’ve watched a few videos and still struggled. I watched your video and 15 minutes later, I’ve tied 5 real nice knots. Thank you so much!!!
Thanks a ton! Glad to help. Stay tuned.
5:10 that above the shoulder shot really is awesome, thanks!
Thanks so much for watching.
Knot tying tool worked super well with this knot.
This one is by far our best seller: www.madriveroutfitters.com/p-11558-dennison-blood-knot-tyer.aspx
A few years back I bough an 8 wt 9 ft Lefty Kreh TFO fly rod and I hope I catch a few salmon with it this weekend. You tie some awesome knots and very well spoken. You make tying all of these knots a breeze.
Matt Weber Thanks for watching!
Love the vids. It took me a dozen times to tie this knot until I watched this.
Great video! You did a good job with contrast of the lines and zooming camera in for the viewers. So many channels fail in these aspects of filming a video. I think i will finally be able to tie this knot. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Yeah I got some spools and just built like 30 leaders over a few days, and now the blood knots is so damn easy, I'll never forget it either.
That's awesome! Thanks for watching. Practice makes perfect.
Fantastic tips to hold the x open. i tried this knot many times but i stop doing it because the loop closed so easely. But now i will do the knot again . A big thanks Brian for the tip. from Stig Knutsson Sweden Gothenburg.
Thanks for watching and happy to help.

Two clinch knots! OMG, it suddenly makes so much more sense.
Thanks for watching and happy to help!
Great and easy thanks
Thanks for being here.
Thank you for this great explanation! Would a blood knot be appropriate for tying 20 pound test to 12 pound ?

Watching Brian's finger manipulations really helped me through this. Took me more than 5 times however :) - One question, when both tags end up coming out in the same direction - will that knot fail quicker than the correct, opposite directional orientation that's presented? and, why are they coming out from the same side?
thanks again- Steve in MA
Thanks for watching. Please send those questions directly over to Brian at the shop via e-mail, or give him a call. He'll be happy to help.
@@Madriveroutfitters ok- Thanks!
I've always used the uni to uni when connecting my braid to floro leader... will the blood knot hold up as well.. I am using the knot for saltwater fishing. THX
Please send your questions directly to the shop and they will be happy to help there. Thanks.
Although I prefer the FG for braid to leader I only tie them at home, when on boat or bank the blood knot is my got to for braid to leader, keep in mind it ties best when the two lines are very close in diameter. Google "uni to uni vs blood knot - knot wars", it was a tie.
Hi Brian,
There's some dispute online as far as what line widths can be tied together using the blood knot. Some people say that if you're tying two lines that have more than 1x difference in diameter a double surgeons is favorable, others say Blood knot for anything so long as you tie it properly. Do you have any advise for when bloodline would trump the double surgeons and vice versa?
Thanks for all the videos!
Please contact Brian directly via email or give him a call. He’ll be happy to help. Thanks.
Did you get an answer here Awoit?
Have you tired the Alberto knot? That's my fav for braid to fluorocarbon.
You'd have to check with Brian on that one. Never heard of it here on our end. You can reach him at the shop though.
Good knot, though I prefer the FG knot as it's smaller than the alberto and passes through eyelets better.
so anything under 0.12 of an inch should we tie a uni to uni knot
We typically use a surgeons.
Did you mention a book of how to build your own leaders?
Bob Thomson yes. It’s called “The End of the Line” and should be out this Winter.
@@Madriveroutfitters - Where can I get this book?
Bertram Brehm @madriveroutfitters when published, stay tuned friend!
any updates on the book?
Oh hold with the move/pandemic. He hopes to get back to it this Fall. We'll let you know. Thanks.
Will this work going from the fly line to a homemade leader?
luke 4009 No, never.
@@Madriveroutfitters is there anything better than using the classic loop knot connection?
luke 4009 ua-cam.com/video/_I0u9URCbNM/v-deo.html
The book you mentioned on knots what is the Name of it..
CHRIS WALPORT www.madriveroutfitters.com/p-4571-fishing-knots-lefty-kreh.aspx
So you don't recommend it for 6x/7x tippet? I can do it with heavy lines bc i normally smallmouth fish. After going for trout this past weekend and using 7x, the knot was a beast for me. The 7x curls like crazy. Just did a surgeons knot.
Surgeons knot is typically better once you get down into the "x" diameters....i.e. less than .011".
Anything larger than that the blood knot is best.
Hope that helps.
i’ve been doing this all day and still can’t get it…trying to connect a leader to a fly line
Well it’s not the knot to use for that!!!
@@Madriveroutfitters yeah…i figured that out after about 2 hours of watching tutorials and trying haha. i didn’t have a loop on the end of my fly line or leader so i ended up having to do a nail knot!
Do you always use 5 turns no matter what diameter of leader material?
Pretty much. Yes.
Thanks. Didn't know if the thicker material took less turns.
If it's that thick we'd go to the improved blood knot anyways.
☀️❤️
Thanks so much. Same to you!!!
Brian if I could kiss you I would. Watch 15 videos of blood knots. Watched yours got it done. Been trying braid to braid for tip ups
Glen Surprenant Thanks for watching.
It's not that great of a knot with braid in my experience. What's your experience?
tried 20 times and does not work.
Actually....it does. Follow the video and you wil do fine.
