  • For 18 years Mike Warren served as engineer on the Florida Railroad Museum at Parrish.
Family obligations prompted Mike to move to New Mexico in November and leave his beloved FRRM.
I rode along on his last day.

I have seen this before, but it never gets old. The ex-army is in fact was Government Issued or G.I. and, now that 8330's tour of duty with the United States Army it dawned on me that it`s a Veteran of the U.S. Army. Imagine the places that locomotive has been besides Central Florida? Yuma Proving Grounds AZ, Anniston AL, Rocky Mountain Arsenal CO? Super video.

Mike--if you see this (April 15, 2017) I just watched a Fox News video. A congenitally color blind man received color sight with a special pair of glasses. Maybe it's not too late for you to begin a career as a locomotive engineer?
LAKELAND, Florida - When a Florida man opened his 66th birthday
present from his son and daughters, he had no idea how much his life was
    about to change.
According to ABC News, Noll Stafford has been colorblind since birth.
When his family gave him a pair of EnChroma glasses, he saw color for the first time. According to the company’s website, the glasses cost between $269 - $429.
I hope that you see this comment. Nice video; I love the sound when you open up the throttle. Brings back memories of days gone by. I logged a lot of miles riding the head end of FP9's. Knew a few enginemen who let me ride with them. Take care!

Here's a fanciful dream, what if they were able to extend track to Wimauma. I doubt it would happens but its something nice to dream about.

    • @EdwardRingwald
      @EdwardRingwald 10 років тому +5

The Florida Railroad Museum could extend its run north over the Little Manatee River and past Saffold Road to Wimauma. Unfortunately, there are a lot of obstacles involved here:
      1. The line north of the Willow yard is owned by TECO as an utility corridor. The museum would more than likely have to purchase the line from Willow to Durant, and that is an expensive undertaking in itself.
      2. The truss bridge over the Little Manatee River is over 100 years old. It would require major rehabilitative work to bring the bridge up to current safety standards. There is also the cost factor to bring the bridge up so that it can be safe to cross.
      3. The condition of the rails from the Willow yard to Saffold Road is questionable requiring major repair or replacement work. That's another significant expense here.
      4. Crossing signals would more than likely have to be installed not only at Saffold Road but at FL 674 in Wimauma. Now you are looking at lots of money here.
Like I explain to my passengers on board the Florida Railroad Museum train when I give my presentation on the town of Willow and the equipment awaiting restoration including the Monte Rosa car the museum acquired from the City of Orlando, the Florida Railroad Museum does not get funding from the federal government, the State of Florida (even though the museum is one of three official State of Florida railroad museums) or Manatee County - instead, funding for the Florida Railroad Museum comes from admissions, memberships and donations which help keep Florida's railroad history alive.
In short, it is possible to extend the run north past Willow to Wimauma but cost is a big factor here.
