      It also looks like it's aimed a bit differently so Danny was standing more in its line of sight. There's an NS signal here on the Beltline trail (so legal to go up to it) that's still lit, and you can see just how tightly aimed it is into the curve of the track at its location. This signal looks similar.

    Wow, that's a lot of light! I've been looking for places around my area to shoot at night, but there's nothing like this. It sure opens up a new perspective! Your "just a very loud shadow in the moonlight comment" resonates with me, because the majority of the trains here run under the cover of a dark sky. Also, loved the street running shots in Tampa, was wondering when you were going there again as I recall that location from your older videos. Still plenty of street running in Pennsylvania if you ever visit!

      I don't think it's even capable of storing cars anymore, the track is literally buried to an extent where it seems impossible, especially on the area nearest to the lot. It's only been recent that I've noticed the rail has been poking out more.

    Enjoy your video's especially when in Tampa and Dade City areas. I lived and worked in Dade City for several years. Originally worked in San Antonio for the Orange Belt tourist line as their locomotive mechanic. It was while there that I met the owner of ex Reader RR #11 that was operating there. When that operation decided to move to different location he decided not to. Moved locomotive and several cars to Tampa for storage till suitable location to operate. He hired me as his mechanic. All this to comment on street night running in Tampa. He contracted out equipment to be used in a movie so had to run from storage track to Tampa Union. We had locomotive fired up and local crew let us do the pulling of cars. If memory serves me right, this was late 70's, there were somewhere between 30-50 mostly empty boxes. I was firing and #11 did beautifully. Barking her loudest & prancing down middle of street right as bars were letting out. Glance up and saw curtains opening in hotels. Can only imagine what was going through their minds. Was quiet an experience.
    As a side note after filming on line that ran to Brooksville our Seaboard pilot crew wanted to beat Amtrak into Union station so we hit 50 MPH on our return. Both injectors going to keep water in boiler and needle pegged right at pop off pressure. Yes, we beat 'em.

    Danny, ever since Positive Train Control took effect on the lines, the signals have to be able to show a restricting aspect. For certain railroads, a flashing red light is acceptable as the aspect for restricting. I don't know whose bright idea it was to exclude the flashing red in favor of the lunar aspect in the CSX region. The original meaning for a lunar aspect was "You're leaving signaled territory now, Good luck!" To me it would have seemed easier to simply apply the rule rather than install physical signals but hey, it's not my railroad either. Anyways, in order to be compliant with the order, all new signals must be capable of showing a restricting aspect in case the signal system fails on the primary, so the dispatcher has a secondary route plan. This was explained to me in 2008 just before I left CSX and it's been in place on the UP and BNSF for some time now as well. I'd assume since it's a mandated order like PTC, it's probably on every line with signals. I don't remember where the exact wording is on that but I'm betting someone else on here has it too. I never ran restricting signals on CSX but I did run restricting signals on UP one time. It was during a work curfew and I was the engineer of a ballast train to the site where we had a terrible washout. The section of track was about 40 miles long and the whole section had been shut down by the washout. As a result the signals were OOS on primary. We were given written authority to enter the signaled territory and then we ran on flashing red signals all the way to the work site. After dumping out the rocks, we shoved back on flashing signals to a siding where we ran around our train and pulled it back to where we started. The whole trip took less than 4 hours, even at +/- 10mph running so it was a good day!
    Edit: Also, just a note on the bell sub - I did not get a notice that you shared a video. I found it in my suggestions box and almost skipped it when I thought I had seen it already. It dawned on me that I hadn't when I saw it was only 1 day ago that you uploaded it.

      @j-bird1778 3 роки тому +1

      I've heard from my grandfather who used to work on bnsf, that railroaders don't like the flashing red restricting, because it can be mistaken for a crossing signal from a distance.

    • @SD40Fan_Jason
      @SD40Fan_Jason 3 роки тому

      @@j-bird1778 It's the responsibility of the railroaders to know where the signal is and the aspects that are suited for each one. While I certainly agree the flashing red is similar in appearance to a crossing, so many signals are nowhere near a crossing.

    I'm in Western Australia and always enjoy seeing a train go by.
    Florida trains? Couldn't have cared one bit until Danny and Distant Signal fell in my lap a few years ago.
    Now?
    Danny's work stands out and is well worth the (sometimes long) wait.
    Best dialogue and story line; very, very good camera and sound. #1 for my train watching
    Thanks Danny!

    Thank you for your videos: high-grade production, thoughtful cinematography, and an overall great presentation of your genuine interest in the rail world. It is a wonderful accompaniment to a snowy Sunday morning cup of coffee in southeast Michigan. I've learned a lot from your videos and look forward to more! Stay safe out there and keep up the great work!

    Thank you Danny for another great night video and the street running on Polk Street!! Stay safe out there. PS Would you ever consider doing a short video ( 5 to 7 minutes) of some of the food places you have visited during your trips? The ones you’ve mentioned in some of your visits look very good!
